39. The Last Day of the Trip
Author's POV.
Around 3 PM, Hyeyoon had finished pack all her stuff and was now zipping and locking her luggage. Now she only had her work stuff left, she gathered all her gadgets and put it orderly inside her backpack. As scheduled, their flight was at 11 PM tonight. They would travel to San Fransisco and left from SFO back to ICN with one-way flight Korean Air.
Hyeyoon herself wasn't really sure when would they leave, but she packed anyway. There were sounds of a knock on the door and Hyeyoon's heart started thumping hard again.
"Shit!" Hyeyoon subconsciously cursed on herself. Cursing on her stupid heart for beating that fast only for a knock.
"Hyeyoon," a deep sound was sounded and Hyeyoon knew it was Rowoon. Both of them were still in his condo and Hyeyoon had been locking herself up inside her room since then. They woke up late exactly at lunchtime and both Hyeyoon and Rowoon had skipped breakfast and lunch.
After knocking at Hyeyoon's door for quite some time, Hyeyoon told him that she wanted to be alone and Rowoon finally gave up. As she heard the sound of the front door clicked open, she was assuming that Rowoon must be going out. Hyeyoon then went out of her room and took a quick shower.
Just when she was done showering and packing her stuff, he was back and now knocking at her door again.
The girl sighed in frustration and finally opened the door for him. After been knocking at her door for minutes, she finally showed up in front of him and Rowoon let out a soft sigh in relief. He let out a stupid grin and showed Hyeyoon a pack of Mc Donald's lunch set.
"Here, you need to eat something," he offered and Hyeyoon didn't seem to excite upon seeing the meal. Learning her reaction, Rowoon then pushed open the door wider just to let him see that she had packed all her stuff already. "You've packed?" he asked. Hyeyoon followed the direction of his sight and nodded.
"Yes," she told him and was about to close the door again when Rowoon held her movement.
"I've bought you your favorite, Hyeyoon. Let's eat first," his tone was somewhat pleading yet there was an urge so that the girl won't ignore him again.
"I don't think I'm hungry, Rowoon, you can have that by yourself," Hyeyoon was unlikely to eat right now but the guy was so persistent.
She always had this kind of behavior every time she got mad at him and Rowoon knew it really well. All he had to do was grabbing the girl and pulled her body completely onto him and let Hyeyoon jumped a little with the sudden touch, and to his surprised, it still worked.
The girl nervously raised her face to see the tall guy who was now holding her in his embrace and Rowoon smirked. "Don't make me force you to eat your late lunch, Hyeyoon. I know your body still reacts the same way as before when I touch you," he deliberately whispered to her and she blushed upon hearing his statement. Hyeyoon needed a few seconds to process everything and after a moment, she could take control of her brain once again to wriggle free from his touch.
She tried to break free and finally, Rowoon let her go. "Okay, I got it, I'll eat," Hyeyoon cleared her throat and snatched the paper bag from his hand. She stomped to the kitchen and put it down on the dining table. She began taking out the contents and saw two sets of hamburgers with one pack of French fries and one pudding. Rowoon let out a soft smile and joined her at the dining table.
"What time we're going to leave?" Hyeyoon's tone was flat and Rowoon ignored the cold on her voice. He took one of the hamburgers and took half of it in one go.
"Around 5 or 6 PM? I think Kent will drive us to SFO today," Rowoon had already finished his piece meanwhile Hyeyoon had just started chewing her French fries. "He will be here in two hours," he said again.
Rowoon was already showering, and Hyeyoon could smell his cologne mixed with his soap earlier when she was close enough to smell his body scent. Rowoon was leaving the condo with the sliding door opened and there was a warm summer breeze blowing through the door and the wind blew his body scent even more to hit her smelling.
Hyeyoon nearly got intoxicated by the scent and she enjoyed it, to be honest. While busy with her mind, Rowoon was silently enjoying the view of watching over her gesture. Leaning to the backrest of the chair, Rowoon sounded. "What are you thinking, Hyeyoon?" he was curious since she was seen frowning and stared blankly as she ate her meals.
Hyeyoon startled and turned to him for a short moment and shook her head. She tried really hard to avoid eye contact with him and Rowoon suddenly had the urge to ask her something.
"Can I ask you something personal, Hyeyoon?" Rowoon sounded again and this time Hyeyoon couldn't help to divert all her attention to him completely. She didn't utter any reply yet she raised an eyebrow as she waited for him to give her the question.
Rowoon was seen nervously scratched the back of his nape. Hyeyoon stared weirdly at him as he suddenly felt nervous and his facial expression then turned serious.
The guy let out a heavy breath before started, "about last night," he sounded and Hyeyoon couldn't help to feel nervous upon hearing the topic he brought was about last night.
"What?" Hyeyoon nearly cracked her voice but she managed to sound natural as much as she could.
Rowoon tried to manage his composure and finally expressed his concern honestly to the girl. He stared at Hyeyoon intently as if his deep eyes had pierced deeply to her soft almond eyes and the girl had to hold her breath upon the intensity of his eyes on her, "I know you never get intimate with your boyfriend, Hyeyoon," he began and hearing the first sentence already made Hyeyoon nearly choked her own meal. Hyeyoon had to put down the hamburger and took the drink to wet her dry throat.
The soda had hurt her throat but she ignored it. Rowoon went on, "are you on pills, Hyeyoon?" Hyeyoon choked her drink. Rowoon finally realized he must be surprised her by the frank question. The guy then grabbed the tissue from the paper bag and gave it to Hyeyoon.
Hyeyoon wiped her lips and shot a glare at him. "Sorry," he said.
"What are you talking about?" Hyeyoon finally retorted as she finally calmed down. "Who said we never got intimate? It's not like I'm announcing to everyone whenever I had my private time with my boyfriend," she blurted out, and seeing Rowoon's expression was unreadable, Hyeyoon's panic reaction had answered his question clearly.
Rowoon knew that Hyeyoon was a bad liar. She would start arguing and got defensive whenever she tried to hide something.
"Don't try to hide it, Hyeyoon. I know it," Rowoon broke her argument and Hyeyoon shut her mouth tightly. It was useless to hide the fact from him, he must be known it already. He experienced himself last night, and Rowoon was a genius. He was hardly tricked.
Hyeyoon let out a heavy sigh and threw a glare at him. "If so, then what are you gonna do? It's none of your business, Rowoon," Hyeyoon told him finally.
"It's going to be my business, if something did happen to you," his voice hoarse and there was something odd in his tone. "Tell me if there's something happened, Hyeyoon,"
"What," Hyeyoon didn't understand what he was trying to say, but there was a sudden idea that popped up in her mind and she widened her round eyes. "No way," she stared at Rowoon, terrified. "No, it's not going to happen," her expression was awful and horror was shown in her eyes. Her eyes turned red. She tried to calm down first but was seen calculating, "No, it's not my fertility windows," she said panicking.
"I thought you're probably on pills, as you might be sexually active with your boyfriend, I'm sorry. So, just if something did happen, Hyeyoon. Don't hide anything to me," he touched her hand and stared at her eyes rather intently, "Please," he pleaded.
Hyeyoon slowly pulled her hand and stood up. "Nothing's gonna happen, Rowoon," her voice was cold as ice. Without even looking at him, she said something that sounded final, "can you please forget what happened last night? It's a mistake. I take that we're merely making a mistake. I won't blame you for anything that might happen in the future nor I'd let you know anything. You don't have to take the responsibility or whatsoever," she was firm and her eyes were fiery. Rowoon had never seen that look in her eyes and it was new. Before Rowoon could digest everything, Hyeyoon continued with a low and clear sound, "Whatever you're thinking is not going to happen,"
Ditched her meals, Hyeyoon stormed back to her room and slammed shut the door. Leaving Rowoon alone at his spot, dumbfounded.

They were heading to San Fransisco and went straight to the Airport. Originally Kent and his girlfriend were planned to take them to the Golden Gate Bridge, to enjoy the sunset before their return to Korea. But they canceled the plan as they saw the two guests seemed not in a good mood. Kent immediately sensed that they looked like a fighting couple when he saw Hyeyoon hadn't talked at all during their journey.
He eyed Rowoon for an explanation but the latter just shrugged and unlikely to tell him anything. Thus, they proceeded to the San Fransisco International Airport, heading north.
They arrived at the airport at around 7.30 PM. There was a little traffic at the highway's exit, but since they left earlier than scheduled, they could make it in time to the airport. Their flight was still in 3 more hours, they had plenty of time.
"There you go," Kent exclaimed as he put down the last baggage on the trolley and he turned at Rowoon. He patted the taller man's shoulder and hug him. "See you again, bro," he said.
Rowoon grinned at his buddy's facial expression and couldn't help to tease him. "Don't cry, I don't have any candy,"
"Dumbass," Kent cursed at him and the two of them laughed. "Let me know if you're ready to put your unit for rent again, I'll take care of everything here," he added and Rowoon nodded.
"Thanks, man. You're the best," Rowoon then walked to Hyeyoon who stood beside Halley, Kent's girlfriend. The girl stood still there, watching the scenes expressionlessly and Rowoon could only take a heavy breath.
He pushed the trolley and waved goodbye to Kent and his girl. "Safe flight," the girl with dark brown hair told them and Hyeyoon nodded while smiling.
"Thank you," she nodded and as Rowoon already walked to the departure gate, Hyeyoon followed him behind and went to another security process before entering the building.
Still avoiding Rowoon for any conversation, both of them sitting a few seats away in the lounge. They were waiting for the boarding call. Since they didn't know where to go, Rowoon just suggested them to go straight to the lounge and had their dinner there.
But Hyeyoon stayed mute all along. Rowoon knew the girl might be still shaken by his statement. But it was his concern. And before they got no more chance to talk in private like that, he better voiced it out.
He didn't expect that Hyeyoon was never been touched by her boyfriend at first. Well, they might kiss anyway but the moment he entered her, he immediately knew that no one ever had her beside him. And the fact had got him chills. But on the other hand, he also felt like a total jerk. Since she never had anyone but him, means that he was so stupid for ruining such a good girl at the very first.
He was the one who broke her into pieces and now, how dare him trying to reclaim her? He might be hurting her even more and broke her once again, he was so shameful. Rowoon felt the bitterness as he watched her from where he sat, Hyeyoon was busy with her phone, typing. Probably texting her boyfriend. But her facial expression remained the same, rigid, and seemed tired.
The self-awareness hit him hard and suddenly he felt hopeless to himself. He sighed.
The call for boarding was announced and Rowoon stood up. His heavy steps dragged him to the girl who sat near the windows and he silently walked toward her.
"Hyeyoon, boarding time," he informed her and Hyeyoon immediately heard the call for boarding. Yes, it was their flight.
"Okay," she got up and they walked separately to the gate.
It was near its end. Rowoon said to himself in his mind.
He needed to wake up from the dream. He had promised to the guy for taking care of his girlfriend. And when they touched down at South Korea. He had to hand the girl back to her guy. He needed to have a big heart from now on. That he might never have any chance to be loved by her once again.
Rowoon saw Hyeyoon entered the cabin first and headed to the business class. They were actually sat next to each other, but Rowoon decided to take the seat near the window at the very back of the business class. He wanted to be alone.
Hyeyoon saw Rowoon sat there and was about to ask him, but then she held herself up and quietly sat on her seat. Leaving both of them spent the rest of the flight without saying anything.
