24. A Friendly Advice
Hyeyoon's POV.
I walked to the walk-in closet near my room and took a few pieces of clothes and tossed it into my opened luggage. It was Sunday morning, and I had to pack my stuff for the business trip.
The itinerary was concluded in the internal meeting the day before with me especially, but Kiyong was also there to listen, as he was the team leader for this project. Meanwhile, the M.IT Company General Manager was also sitting there with us along with Kim Rowoon.
The packed schedule was strictly discussed a day before as the company tried to make sure the days given was enough for us to reach all our destination. The first route was Xiamen and we were leaving at 6.25 PM today.
The General Manager was deeply apologizing upon the recent event at the warehouse and was actually offering to cancel the trip. But I thought it has nothing to do with the trip though and everything was fine. We were rescued except for Rowoon got injured. We all were good.
Before the meeting, I was wondering whether he treated his wound well or going to the hospital to get himself checked. But as the meeting began, he was seen sitting there beside the General Manager as nothing happened and looked well as usual. But it was weird that he was talking less than the last time at the warehouse, he only responded when he was asked. He mostly avoided my gaze when I tried to look and communicate with him.
My mind diverted back to the present and I sighed when reading the itinerary displayed on my phone screen. I already convinced myself that the 10 days business trip with Kim Rowoon would be nothing to do with our personal affairs. It was purely professional. But Jeein's comment earlier today unavoidably caused this unnecessary anxiety in my mind.
Through Yongdae, Jeein learned that I encountered again with Rowoon for business purposes. But she didn't know that I was assigned to a business trip together with him for 10 days. As I informed her of the news, she quickly doubted that there was nothing more between us as I explained.
Jeein looked very surprised and still in disbelief. Just the same as me, she wasn't expected the encounter between me and Rowoon at the time and place like this and as my current status as Jang Kiyong's girlfriend.
"Your bond with him is stronger than I thought, I definitely doubt there won't be nothing happened between the two of you alone," she shook her head fast and crossed her arms.
"What do you mean by too strong bond?" I furrowed an eyebrow and quickly judged the latter, which Jeein replied with a low scoff.
"Please, Hyeyoon. You might be able to deny every time and even lie to yourself, but I know you this well and I knew you never stopped thinking of him, Hyeyoon, do you?" Jeein straightened her posture and now completely facing me while we were sitting face to face on the couch.
Though I tried really hard not to shake, she was faster than me even she caught my eyes trembled and I lowered my head to hide my stupidity.
"Hyeyoon," she softly called my name and the girl raised my face just to let me looked into her eyes. "You have Kiyong, already, sweetheart. You know yourself it's not a good deed to betray him, right? It's not fair for him,"
"Yes, I know," my voice came out low and I cleared my throat.
"Have you told Kiyong about your previous relationship with Rowoon?" she asked and I slowly shook my head.
"Not yet," I replied. "I need time to prepare myself to tell him the whole story," I honestly told Jeein. I was actually reluctant to spill everything as I hate the idea to recall every detail in order to explain to Kiyong. That's why I hadn't told him the whole story.
Jeein shook her head once again and grabbed both of my shoulders firmly. "No, you need to tell him sooner, before he found out from someone else. It's way better to hear first from you, Hyeyoon. Let him know that he can trust you wholly,"
I nodded, as I agreed to her suggestion. "Alright, I'll let him know the story as soon as I can," I said finally.
As I said so, I was planning to tell him everything once I was back from the trip. Or should I just spill everything before the departure? Since Kiyong would drop me off at the airport this afternoon before he left for Busan for another business trip.
I was done packing with the stuff and locked my 24-inch suitcase. I dragged it to the corner of the room and laid on my bed. It was still 9 AM. I had 6 more hours before leaving for the airport. Rowoon told me to arrive at the airport before 5 PM.
* * *
"Is it all?" Kiyong loaded my suitcase into the trunk.
I nodded and followed him got into the car. He was dressing casual today. Right after dropping me by the airport, Kiyong would pick up Gunjoo at his place and they were heading to Busan. He started the engine and slowly speeding up out of my apartment basement.
"How long you'll stay at Busan?" I asked him as he was turning the car to enter the highway.
"Maybe a day or two," he answered. "It depends on how long we took to handle the problem there. Why? Missed me already?" he grinned while teasing me and I couldn't help a smile.
"Yes. I'm gonna miss you, a lot, Mr. Jang," I said and mischievously poking him by his biceps.
"Eh, what are you doing Miss Kim? That's dangerous while I'm driving," he dodged it playfully. I laughed.
We talked mostly about work and anything else during the 45 minutes journey. I just realized we were near the destination when Kiyong turned the car to the highway exit. 10 more minutes to the destination and I suddenly felt uneasy.
Glancing at the digital clock on the dashboard, showed 20 minutes to 5 PM. I wasn't late though.
"You're not late, aren't you?" Kiyong caught my anxiety and concern showed on his face.
"No, no, we're good," we weren't late. But I couldn't help to feel nervous. I thought I would be fine, but the nearer we were driving to the Airport, the more I felt anxious.
I was then suddenly thinking of telling Kiyong everything. Before I was leaving the country. At least, I was hoping this simple honesty would ease my mind a little bit. I stole a glance at the man driving beside me and he was still focusing his sight on the road.
"Oppa," I called him softly.
"Hm?" he responded shortly with a hum and turned to look at me slightly.
I didn't know where to start nor I knew what to say. I hesitated for a moment.
"What is it, baby?" he asked again.
I stared at the man and a gush of guilty feeling surfaced. Biting my lower lips, I shook my head and swallowed back my guts. I had to tell him everything but not like this. Telling him the proper way should be better than rushing it without any preface.
Kiyong was seen waiting for my words to come out. I cleared my throat and smiled at him. "I'll be back soon right after finishing the work, how about a date later at Namsan Tower?" I initiated.
Just exactly as I thought. Kiyong smiled widely and quickly agreed to the invitation. "How about a romantic dinner?" he added. This time was my turn to flashed a wide smile. I knew he had been waiting for this moment. So, might as well granting his wish to have a proper romantic date and possibly an event.
"Alright. Romantic dinner sounds great," I said then.
He was anticipating it.
By then the car turned to the departure gate and he stopped the car in the drop off area. I knew we couldn't stay there for long. As soon as I got out of the car. Kiyong helped me with my stuff and put the suitcase on a trolley.
He looked at me and pull me into a warm hug for a few seconds.
"Safe flight, love," he said while caressing my hair. He pulled out and looked at me. "Come back safely, I'll be here to pick you up when you're back,"
I nodded and suddenly he leaned forward to capture me in a single kiss. He smirked upon seeing my surprised expression. He then shrugged nonchalantly. "I know, I know. It's a public place. But who cares? You're mine anyway," he was about to lean down for a kiss once more when there was a voice behind me.
"You're here?" a tall man dressed in a gray cardigan with black denim was approaching us. Kiyong who saw the man then released his hand from me and professionally greeted Kim Rowoon.
"Mr. Kim," he nodded slightly to the younger man. I couldn't help to anxiously check on their expression. But Kiyong still managed his composure and didn't look disturbed at all.
It was me who felt horrible and worried too much when hearing the designation business trip along Kim Rowoon. While Kiyong never showed any disagreement nor tended to be a possessive boyfriend toward his girlfriend. Yet Kiyong allowed me to do anything as long as it was work-related.
"Mr. Jang," Rowoon stretched his hand and Kiyong accepted the handshake briefly. Rowoon who was a typical straight-to-the-point guy didn't bother to talk much and he glanced to his watch.
"Shall we go, Miss Hyeyoon?" he suggested and I looked to Kiyong once again. He then smiled and nodded.
"Alright then. I'll be going. Have a safe flight," he then turned to me and whispered, "Text me when you arrived,"
I nodded and with that Kiyong bid his goodbye. He got into the car and waved before leaving.
"Is it all?" Rowoon's sudden voice snapped me back and I saw him already holding my suitcase.
"Y-yes," I cursed at myself when I stuttered. The man just half smirked half-smiled upon seeing my reaction. He then pulled the suitcase and lead the way inside the check-in section.
I frowned when realized he didn't seem to bring anything. "How about you? Don't you bring anything?" I asked.
We were going through the security check before proceeding to the check-in section. He hadn't answered my question as he was proceeding to the security check. I raised an eyebrow as I saw the female security couldn't really cast her gaze from Rowoon while scanning the detector along his long body.
She deliberated prolonging the scanning and I was unconsciously snorted a bit loudly. Causing both Rowoon and the security to turn and looked at me. What did she think she was doing right now? Her action was making the queue got longer.
The female security now seemed aware of the situation when I cleared my throat. She finished scanning and stepped backward in embarrassment. I went through the scanning from the other security and finished quickly.
I saw Rowoon was waiting for me while holding my suitcase. "I already checked in baggage before you arrived," he referred to my previous question. "And what was that?"
"Huh? What?" I was confusedly looked at him to his sudden question. He then pointed his chin to the security section.
"Your reaction there, I mean," he clarified.
"Ah, nothing. Just a normal reaction to an unnecessary thing," I sounded like seeking an excuse. But I didn't really care. Tried to avoid the further question. I was about to grab my suitcase when Rowoon prevented my gesture.
"I'll do it for you, this way is faster," he then headed to a self-check-in counter. Incheon International Airport now provided self-check-in counters and bag drop. He knew how to operate the machine and processing my check-in.
"Give me your passport," he told me and I gave him the passport. He processed the check-in. As if he used to do it, he skillfully hit the button and followed the procedure.
He grabbed my suitcase and after scanning the boarding pass, the lid opened and Rowoon attached the tag on the suitcase and inserting it into the machine. The lid closed and it distributed the baggage.
Finishing the process. Rowoon handed me the boarding pass with the confirmation slip already pasted on it.
I received the paper and reading it briefly when I just realized that they gave us a business class flight.
"Your company is really a generous one," I said out of the blue and Rowoon just raised an eyebrow. Failed to catch. "They provided us a business class flight?" I showed him the boarding pass.
Rowoon's corner lips raised a bit. "They always did," he calmly stated.
This time, I was flabbergasted as I realized how big the company he worked at. Rowoon waved it away and led the way to a restaurant.
"Have you eaten?" Rowoon stopped and looked at me who walked behind him.
"Not yet," I said honestly but it was only 5.30 PM and too early for a dinner for me. "I don't think I'm hungry though,"
"Do you want to have in-flight dinner?" he offered.
I nodded, he then reached out and escorted my back so that I walked beside him. This gesture remained the same as 3 years ago. The way his hand touch my back and he was always the one leading the way.
"Okay, I'll get you a beverage before we proceed to the waiting room," Rowoon would never let me starve. I was more than aware of this concern he had just like years ago. He would make sure I had something before starting the day. I flashed a smile as I was reminiscing the memory. I saw that tall man ordering a hot decaf matcha latte and hot brown sugar coffee for him.
"Brown sugar? Why brown sugar?" I teased him as I knew he always had Americano.
"I need a bit more sugar intake for today," he reasoned and gave a card to the cashier to pay the bill. "I need a bit more sugar intake for today," he reasoned and gave his card to the cashier to pay the bill. After fetching the beverage and gave mine, Rowoon glanced at his watch and told me that we had to proceed to the waiting room soon.
