"Excuse me," I carefully opened the door after three knocks and quickly peeked.
"Yes, Hyeyoon, please come in,"
I stepped in and slowly closed the door. The first thing I did was bowing to Prof. Han and then walked to the chair in front of his desk. I nearly gasped when I saw the person sat on the chair next to me.
"Ah, have you two known each other? Hyeyoon, this is Kim Seok-woo from the IT department," Prof. Han added.
"Y-yes, uh, hi..." I nodded slightly, and he replied with an awkward nod. His expression was dazed and shocked, but he managed to calm himself, stayed cool. Meanwhile, in that state, I couldn't get a grip on myself even my breathing became uncontrollable. Silly Hyeyoon! Cursed my inner self.
Prof. Han cleared his throat then proceeded; he explained why he gathered the two of us to his office this morning. There will be an international programming competition soon, which Seokwoo was participating in. The project was about building an Architectural Designing Program; thus, Prof. Han asked me to help Seokwoo with the information and everything he needs about the program details.
"Seok-woo, I'll leave the rest to you. Explain the process and the details to her. So she can help you," Prof. Han finished his sentences with an 'I can trust this project on you' look to Seok-woo. He patted Seokwoo's shoulder while we bowed him to leave.
Seok-woo closed the door behind him, and then silence hit us. There was no one in the hallway. He nervously scratched the back of his nape, and I could only look in the other direction.
"Um..." his low baritone voice humming in my ears. I looked up to see him smiling, then gestured his hand to let me walked first. "How about the library?" he asked. "I prefer a quiet and comfortable place to discuss the project if you don't mind,"
It was the first time I've heard him talking that long. But I have to admit that I like the tone of his voice and wonder whether he was good at singing, too, since his voice was somehow heavy yet felt light when I heard it.
"Sure, no problem. The library is good; I like it there, too," I was trying to make my voice as light as possible but failed. This guy must be noticed by my silly, shaken voice.
But I decided to ignore it since he nodded at my answer and we just walked to the library without a single word till we arrived. He opened the door for me, and I mumbled a low thanks to him.
Not many people were in the library, which is good. He led me to a quiet, peaceful desk near the window. I could feel the morning wind blew through the window and gently hit my face when I took a seat. He took the seat across and started to take out his laptop along with a pen and note.
"Do you often come here?" I asked him randomly, and he looked at me intensely.
"Yeah, few times. When I need to find a good place to be alone without the disruption of those noisy guys,"
I laughed softly at his statement, "do you mean your friends?"
He smiled. "Yeah, especially Inseong Hyung, he can be too loud when got excited. Which is funny but annoying at times,"
I laughed with him. He's talkative, though. I thought he was the cold type, but thankfully he wasn't.
"Heyy, you two!" I jumped a little to a loud voice in such a quiet place when I saw Inseong was approaching with a playful smile plastered on his face. He then realized his surroundings and immediately lowered his voice.
"Are you mad?" Seok-woo hissed to Inseong while looked around. Made sure no one was disturbed by his loud voice.
"Sorry, just got too excited to see you two here," he grinned widely then nudged his elbow to Seok-woo. "What are you doing? Dating at the library? Never know you can be too old-fashioned, too, huh?"
"What do you mean dating? No, we are discussing a project, now, can't you see?" Seok-woo held his voice so it won't go higher as he explained to mischievous Inseong, who was now teasing him completely.
Inseong lowered his body then whispered to both Seok-woo and me, "alright, I know what he was trying to say," he was talking to me, "Hyeyoon, I know you, my junior. Just be careful with Seok-woo. Don't look by his handsome face. In this appearance, he can be wild, too. Don't get him to be too close to you if you're not prepared for what he is going to—ouch!"
I blinked to see Seokwoo's face flustered and looked angry at the same time. He just kicked Inseong limbs, and now he stumbled while rubbing the sore part of his legs.
"What are you doing, Hyung?" Seok-woo couldn't help himself to raise his voice. Inseong laughed so hard while still winced in pain.
"I'd better leave before this beast crushes me to ashes," Inseong waved a bye which I replied with an awkward nod.
"Don't mind him," Seokwoo's face was still a bit furious with his furrowed brows and eyes all on his laptop screen. Looked serious while composing his emotion. His cheek blushed a little, which I found cute.
"I'm fine," I reassured him, and he took a deep breath before looking at me again. "Anyway, I like it here, I like the view," I gazed outside the window; I could see the campus park from here, which felt so refreshing. Luckily it was springtime, so the park was so green.
The moments after were full of us discussing the project, and he explained that he was first a little bit surprised when Prof. Han recommended me to be his partner. He thought that Seokwoo might be need something that the only girl could sense; hence he paired Seokwoo with me.
"What does that mean? The only girl could sense?" I asked him curiously.
He flashed his gorgeous smile again, "I had no idea, Prof. Han thought that my work was great but lacking something that I couldn't decipher, he once tried to pair me with Insoeng Hyung, but all we got was a mess," he sighed in frustration. "Inseong Hyung and I were not a very good match. Prof. Han even threw the USB where I had my project saved to the trash bin, and it was a mess, completely ruined," he combed his hair, frustrated.
I smiled understandingly and moved forward a bit to see his laptop screen. "All alright then, let me help you," I said then. "now, explain it slowly to me. Maybe I could find the lacking by diagnosing the basic concept of the program first,"
He explained the basic concept when I got where he was lacking, I told him to add some features, and he did as I suggest. He then worked on the coding on his laptop.
"Wow, you're typing so fast," I was amazed by the character combination on his laptop. How can he read all those codes?
I blinked and felt dizzy at the same time. Couldn't stand looking at his laptop screen. I closed my laptop lid and put it back into my bag. Glancing at my wristwatch, it was already 5 PM.
Excused me to leave first, he just answered me with a nod.

April 26th, 2017
"Miss Hyeyoon?" I heard someone called my name. I turned and saw Prof. Han walked toward me with papers in his hand. Handing it for me.
"Yes, Prof," I bowed once he was near. And immediately reached out for the papers and read the title briefly.
"I forgot to give it back to Seokwoo last time he visited my office. His journal needs to be fixed. Let him know that he has to reschedule his next meeting with me, maybe on Tuesday next week," he sternly emphasized his last words, then right after got the nod from me. He stormed back to his office.
Still a bit dazed at the sudden scene, I heard my friend, Jeein asked in a low voice, "Who's journal is that?"
I looked at the—not that thick—papers in my hand and read the title and the author of it carefully. It was written "by Kim Seok-woo". Then it must be that Seok-woo, right? Or was there another Seokwoo on this campus?
"Kim Seok-woo?" I answered. "Do you think this is Kim Seok-woo from the IT department? Or is there someone else called Seokwoo?" I turned its pages back and forth aimlessly just to make sure of myself that this journal belongs to the right Kim Seok-woo.
Slightly shrugged while answering my dumb question, Jeein took the papers from me and read them. She scoffed. "Yeah, I think this is that Kim Seokwoo's," she gave me the papers back and continued, "do you want to give it to him now or later?"
I contemplated for a second before I could answer. Jeein already told me that she had another class to attend and excuse herself first. I nodded and waved at her, agreed to meet her again at the cafeteria at lunchtime.
Yeah, it was best to give it to him right away since Prof. Han seemed to need him to work on these papers immediately.
I walked toward the M building where the IT department was. I rarely visit the other part of the faculty; hence I couldn't hide my confusion and amazement when I saw how huge the building was.
The lobby was at least 8 meters high, a bunch of students passed by holding their laptops in their hands just like how they hold a book. Smiled in amusement, I walked forward when I saw the information board hanging a few meters on my right.
"Excuse me," I greeted as I saw a girl was on her phone, busied texting.
"Yes," she looked up and fixed her clear glasses.
"Ah, I'm looking for Kim Seok-woo. Do you have any idea where to find him?" I saw her eyes widened upon hearing me saying the name that came out a bit too casual for a stranger. "I need to pass him the papers and messages from Prof. Han immediately," I confirmed. Hoping she won't ask unnecessary stuff like why it has to be me who passes the message.
Thankfully she didn't utter anything, and she informed me where this Seokwoo usually was seen at this hour. I thanked her and headed in the direction she mentioned.
Climbed up the stairs, the information girl said I could find him at his computer lab or somewhere on the second floor. I looked around and immediately spotted him, sitting on a bench with his phone in his hand.
Wearing a long coat with a brown turtle neck, crossing his long and slender limbs. He seemed so serious looking at his phone screen, unnoticed about my presence. The pose was simple. However, it looked somehow artistic because it's Kim Seok-woo who was seen sitting in that pose.
Well, I thought to myself that it was customary to admire his good-looking feature. Who wasn't, though?
As I stood nearer to him, I inhaled enough air, which caused me to inevitably smelled his scent. He smelled nice and fresh. While wondering what perfume he was using, I called his name.
"Kim Seok-woo?" he raised and looked at me. There was something weird when our eyes meet. I knew already from those girls who gossiped him everywhere that he was so good-looking which they nicknamed him David Statue Looking God. But experiencing it myself, talking to him directly like this again, was confusing me with a strangely unfamiliar feeling; thus, I unconsciously frowned my brows a bit.
The only thing he does was raising his thick brows, and there was a slight hint of amusement upon seeing my reaction. Did he notice?
I quickly revived myself and handed him the papers. "Sorry to bother. But Prof. Han asked me to hand this journal of yours," he took it and looked back at me once again. I continued, "he said, you need to reschedule your next meeting with him on Tuesday next week,"
Finished. I told myself and was about to excuse myself when I saw Seok-woo stood up towering above me with his superior height. I gaped at the view and backed off a few steps before him.
"Ah, thanks," was all he said. I closed my gaped mouth and looked up at him, smiled.
"No problem," sighed in relief. I waved my hand as about to turn around when he called my name, clearly in his low voice.
"Hyeyoon,"
I frowned, more like surprised but amazed at the same time.
"It's Hyeyoon, right?" he made sure of himself.
I nodded, still fascinated by the way he called me directly by my name.
He smiled when he saw my reaction. Like it was predictable to him. Then he gestured his hand, offering to walk with him. "I just want to thank you since you took all the way here just to pass me this, and for the other day, too," he referred to our encounter at Prof. Han's office last time and the discussion we had at the library. He folds the papers in half and puts it inside his bag, "have you eaten?" he asked again.
Not answering him right away, my frown deepened. "Uh, not yet. But I've promised to eat with my friend," I said honestly.
"Okay, no problem. Invite your friend, too then," he touched the back of my shoulder and escorted me to the cafeteria.
Being a gentleman, he opened the cafeteria doors for me. I laughed at his action, causing him to look at me in confusion.
Finished my giggles, acted as calmly as I could. I crossed my arms in front of my chest and talked to him, melting the awkwardness between us as I saw him scratched the back of his nape unconsciously. Was he nervous? I laughed again in my mind.
"This is so unnecessary, really," I said. He smiled in return and just shrugged while we were heading to the nearest table.
I could sense a few students there were looking at us. Some were whispering and pointing. But I just stayed cool as to how he behaved. Ignoring the whispers around us.
"What would you like to eat?" he scanned the menu of today then got up. He stopped me when he saw I was about to stand up too. "The treat is on me. Just tell me what would you like,"
Dazed a bit, I pointed a tonkatsu picture on the menu board then he nodded. A few minutes later, he was back with a tray of two tonkatsu and two cans of coke.
When I was about to thank him, I saw Jeein came into the cafeteria and waved to get her attention. She saw me and gasped in shock upon seeing the guy sitting in front of me.
"Uh," was all she said. She awkwardly walked toward us.
"Hi," Rowoom greeted her first.
I told her to sit beside me, and she followed. "Hi," Jeein grinned shyly at Seok-woo. "I don't know that you two have lunch. I thought it supposedly Hyeyoon and I—"
"Ah, right. Sorry for interfering. It was me who asked Hyeyoon to have lunch with me. Do you mind if I join you two?" I could see Jeein blinked a few times to absorb this sweet voice of Seokwoo when he said it in a gentle tone.
"No, it's not at all, umm—" Jeein cleared her throat and glanced at both of Seok-woo and me alternately. "I think I should get going now,"
"Huh?" I got surprised at her, and I looked at Jeein with a questioning look. What was this girl saying just now? "where are you going? I thought your classes are over?"
"Yes, but I just remembered that I promised Youngdae to finish our paper today. The due is tomorrow," she then stood up, "Seok-woo, take care of her," she said, then left.
Seok-woo giggled at Jeein, then looked back at me, showing his white teeth when smiling.
"You have a very understanding friend. Thinking of not bothering us while you're eating with me now," he rested his chin on his hand and staring at me.
"Nah, if you think she will let this slip. She will bombard me with a ton of questions afterward," I replied while chopping the meat on my plate.
"Means you have to be ready with the answers by the time she asks you those questions later, then," he joined me while chewing his lunch. "what would she ask you about?"
"You know, stuff like, how come you ended up having lunch together with Kim Seok-woo? She will demand an explanation of the whole story,"
He laughed in amusement. "and, what will your answer be?" he gazed intensely.
Trying my best to ignore his eyes, I diverted my gaze to my plate and speaking lowly while looking down, "well—as an honest person, I will tell her everything as to how it is. That there's nothing between us, that you're just thanking me by buying me a meal,"
He wiped his lips with the tissue before replied, "and the dishonest you should let her know that I asked you for lunch because I found you attractive and got smitten by you,"
Shocked upon his exclaim, I opened my mouth to retort but swallowed the word back again. "What does that supposed to mean?" I laughed awkwardly instead.
He grinned. "Kim Hyeyoon, from Architecture Engineering and Design department,"
I nodded, "I was shocked before, you called me by my name so naturally. I don't remember you were like this the last time we had our discussion at the library? You were so quiet and composed," there was a hint of me teasing him. He looked awkward but still cool.
He contemplated first, then answered, "yes, I was nervous back then and unprepared, too." He laughed awkwardly. "But actually, we've met once, during our freshman year, three years ago?"
"Really? When was it exactly? Where?" I was scanning my hazy memories about three years ago. When would be the chance of us coincidentally ran to each other.
"It was brief, though. No wonder you don't remember it at all. We both were chosen as the best freshmen. You were the female freshman, and I was the male,"
OH! I made a big O, suddenly remembering all of it. "You were that clever guy!"
He laughed, "clever guy?"
"Yes, I remember you now. You answered the quiz from the seniors within seconds, but I didn't realize it was you, Seok-woo, sorry,"
"We were in the same team, though,"
"Yes, the team with more than 40 members, how did you expect me to recognize every one of them in three days?" the freshman MT was only in three days, and Engineering Faculty got hundreds of freshmen every year. Including Science Faculty, then must be more than 300 freshmen.
"Yeah, right," he paused. "But I remembered you, though. We were standing to each other on the stage,"
"Well, I know you too, Seok-woo. I just don't remember that we were on the same team back then," I grinned. "But I did remember you were that clever guy,"
He laughed dryly, "Stop saying that, would you?"
"Why?" I was amused at the slight hint of shyness on his face.
"Nothing,"
Talking with him was very fun, I could feel it, and time flies so fast. We didn't realize that we've been talking non-stop since lunchtime for three hours. My eyes widened upon seeing my wristwatch and saw it was nearly 4 PM.
"Geez," I exclaimed.
Seok-woo finished his third coke can then frowned, "what's wrong?"
I showed the clock on my phone, and Seok-woo's eyes widened in amusement. "Wow, talking to you is kinda addicting then. I don't realize that we talked for more than 3 hours," he said as he calmly gathered the trash on our table. He threw it to the nearest trash bin then back again but, standing beside me, reached out his hand.
"I'll drive you home then, are you finished your schedule today? Or do you still have classes?" he offered.
I was hesitant at first; although the cafeteria was not as crowded as lunchtime, there were still a few students inside the cafeteria. Mostly girls, though, and now they were stealing a glance at us. Some even whispering too.
"I—actually, I can,"
"I insisted," he cut off before I could finish my words. "I'm not a half-hearted person, Hyeyoon. I stole you already from Jeein this afternoon," he chuckled, remembering at Jeein favor to take care of me before she left, "It's my responsibility to take you home now, or else you have another plan? I'll just drive you there, then," he slipped in one of his hand to his pocket while the other was still hanging, waiting for my response.
Thoughts were mixed in my brain, and my heartfelt like it would explode at any time right now. As a normal girl, who wouldn't be so fluttered upon seeing a Kim Seok-woo offering a ride with his car to drive you home? My eyes still caught a few girls whispering and glancing at us. One of them even frowning and sighing. Not looking so pleasant to the view she saw.
I sighed, giving up. Before those glances even getting worse. I took his hand hesitantly, but the latter was seen smiling widely. Seok-woo took my hand and held it tightly before pulling me up and escorted me out to the campus park.
I'd never imagined that I would walk with Seok-woo hand in hand in Campus Park like this, at this very hour when the classes mostly ended and we could easily spot the students grouping. I nearly stumbled as I nervously followed his long step.
He steadied me with his hand and looking at me worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"I'm good, but Seok-woo, I think you need to slow down a little bit. My legs aren't long as yours," I tried my best to laugh at my lame and awkward jokes. His lip corner raised a bit while holding his smile.
"Of course," he then flashing his smile again, then began to walk a bit slower this time.
"Uh, Seok-woo," I called him again, to which he responded with a low hum. I was hesitantly glancing at him, then at our entwined hands. "Do you think it's ok holding hands like this?" I can feel it as everyone's eyes were piercing toward us with curiosity and wonders.
Seok-woo didn't say anything for a few seconds, as he understood how the situation was around us. He then came to the realization that his actions were drawing attention.
He shrugged then began fastened his steps. Half running to catch his long legs, I held back my nervousness till we passed those groups of students.
We were heading to the parking lot when we saw his peers standing before a dark silver Jeep. I recognize it was Inseong's car. They seemed to wait for Seok-woo. When we walked closer, the grin was plastered on their face.
Youngdae was smirking when both of us approached, and he patted Seokwoo's shoulder, whispering something. I saw Seokwoo smiling, and he nudged to Youngdae's ribs, earning a small groan from Youngdae.
"You guys are going somewhere?" Inseong teased while smiling widely.
"Yes, Hyung," Seok-woo bravely answered. Meanwhile, I froze on the spot. Unable to utter a single word.
"Hyeyoon, I told you before, ain't I? You need to be careful with this guy. He's dangerous—" Inseong halted as he saw the man's expression beside me. I raised my face to see Seokwoo's face looked rigid and looked deadly serious. He was glaring at his Hyung, and the older seemed to enjoy his moment of teasing the younger man.
Inseong nodded knowingly. "Okay, okay, I won't say anything," he then backed off slightly and before climbed into his Jeep, followed by the other guys. He winked at me while muttering a "he's wild; you need to be careful."
"Hyung!" Inseong laughed out loud as he saw Seok-woo roared and glared at them.
We both froze as we watched the silver Jeep passed before us. My mind went blank, and I couldn't think properly. I felt my hand that was being held in Seokwoo's huge hand getting sweaty, but I can't move it at all. His grip was reasonably tight.
I stole a glance at the taller man, and he was restraining himself again, then looked back at me. "Hyeyoon," his low tone voice rang again. I think I started to get addicted to his voice.
"Huh?" was the only word that slipped out from my lips.
He let go of my hand and turned my body slightly to face him. I looked up and was amazed by the view when the sunlight hit his handsome face. His dark brown eyes sparkled. I gasped. This is so dreamy, impossibly real, and this man in front of me is unreal.
He lowered his upper body and faced my face intensely. "I'd like to take you somewhere, to my favorite place. What do you think?" he then smiled gorgeously.
I coughed nervously as I just realized that I held my breath all this time. He stared straight at me and was amused upon seeing my reaction.
"Where?" I raised my voice slightly.
Instead of responding to my question, he pulled me and opened the front passenger seat for me. I climbed up to his car and soon drove through the Seoul traffic heading to the west.
