The Car Ride
Geoffrey and I were studying in Windsor Castle when Charlotte and George burst into the room, not even bothering to knock. Both of them had broad grins on their faces. Both Geoffrey and I looked up in surprise. We were in his bedroom, on our stomachs on the floor, whenever they'd burst in.
"Uncle Geoffrey! Uncle Geoffrey!" George squealed excitedly.
Geoffrey laughed, got to his feet, and picked up George. Charlotte reached out to me with open arms and I picked her up in my arms as well.
"What is it, my little nephew?" Geoffrey asked, tickling his nephew's side.
George squealed with laughter, squirming underneath his uncle's clutches.
"Well, if you can stop tickling Georgie, he'll tell you!" said Charlotte defensively as her little arms gripped more tightly around my neck.
Geoffrey stopped tickling his cousin, though George still giggled.
"What was it that you wanted to tell us, George?" I asked kindly.
"Well, it was Mum and Dad's idea. Your Grammy and Gramps are okay with it, as well. Gan-Gan approves as well, but we need your permission. We're going to Mustique for the weekend to our villa! Can Stacey come with us, Uncle Geoff? Please?" George pleaded, giving his uncle
Geoffrey looked quite surprised at his nephew's question. Finally, he turned to me, smiling.
"Well, that's up for Stace to decide," he answered, still grinning.
"Please, Stacey?" Charlotte pleaded, also giving me puppy dog eyes.
"I'm sure that Babushka wouldn't mind that," I answered thoughtfully. "Plus, I have my own car now. So Andrei wouldn't have to drive me and be annoyed with me."
"You have your own car?" Charlotte gasped, her eyes widening in surprise.
"Yes, I do, Missy," I answered, tickling her sides lightly. She squealed and laughed, squirming in my arms until I stopped.
"Can we go take a drive in your car?" George asked eagerly.
"George! That's not polite!" said Geoffrey in shock.
I laughed, ignoring Geoffrey's shocked protests.
"If that's alright with your parents, then we can certainly take a drive around the property," I reassured them.
I set Charlotte back on the ground and then bent down and ruffled George's hair playfully. George playfully swatted my hand away from him, though I knew that he was playing, and both siblings cheered with excitement, bouncing up and down.
"Can we ask them, Mummy and Daddy, now? I wanna see your car!" Charlotte insisted, bouncing up and down excitedly.
"I'm sure that's alright. Talk to your Mum and Dad. I'm sure that they'd say 'yes'."
Immediately, both children sprinted out of the room, squealing excitedly.
"They must really love you, Stace," said Geoffrey sincerely. "They haven't reacted the way they did to you with Vivienne or anyone else that I brought over to Windsor."
"Children must have that natural ability, I guess," I answered, shrugging. "I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case."
"You know that you don't have to go, if you don't want to," said Geoffrey politely. "My family can get a bit crazy when it comes to gatherings like this."
I shook my head, smiling.
"If Kate, William, and your parents agree, then I'm glad to come. I want to learn more about your family."
We sat on his bed, waiting for George and Charlotte to show up. Soon, we could hear their little feet pounding against the wooden floor down our corridor. Geoffrey and I glanced at each other and smiled. Sometimes, their excitement can be a bit contagious. Suddenly, they burst into the room with broad grins on their faces.
"They say that it's allowed!" Charlotte cheered, punching her fists in the air in excitement.
"Yeah! And Papa says that there is an extra room for guests in Les Jolies Eaux villa! Just for you!" George added, bouncing on his feet.
"Then I guess that I'm going," I laughed.
"Go and put your shoes on if you want to take a ride in the car," I said, giggling.
Both siblings cheered, bouncing around in excitement. Charlotte hugged me tightly around the knees, as she was around that height. I laughed and ruffled her light-brown hair fondly. The two siblings did a happy dance before running out of the room. Charlotte stopped at the door and turned to her uncle, grinning.
"I want you to marry that girl, Uncle Geoff!" she declared enthusiastically. Geoffrey slapped his hand against his forehead, looking embarrassed.
"Go get your shoes on, Charlotte," I giggled.
"You know, you don't have to. I don't want you to be forced to do something that you don't want to do and do it for my cousins' sake."
I only shook my head, smiling. George and Charlotte were like the siblings I never had. They were really sweet and loveable. Charlotte and I have probably connected with each other the most.
"Should we go and get them?" Geoffrey suggested, glancing over at me. He still had a tint of pink on his cheeks from his niece's comment from earlier.
"If that's what you think, then sure."
We walked down the corridors. Geoffrey led me to the childrens' bedrooms. Luckily, we didn't have to go and get George, as he was already hanging out with Charlotte in her sister's room, giggling and laughing as they played tag in his sister's room.
"Alright, kiddos. Are you ready to go and take a ride?" I asked, clapping my hands together gently to get their attention.
Both children cheered before taking off, racing through the hall.
"What have I said about running in the hallways in the castle, children?!" We heard Prince William yelling from somewhere down the corridor.
I smiled to myself when I realized that the two children weren't even going to pay attention to their father. Even Geoffrey looked amused, knowing that the Windsor children wouldn't listen. They were too excited to listen to anyone.
"What's going on?" Princess Kate asked with a graceful smile as she walked from the parlor on the first floor.
"Geoffrey and I are going to take Charlotte and George on a car ride. I got a new car the other day, and they really wanted to take a quick drive. We won't go very far, just around the property," I reassured Kate.
She smiled at me again.
"Even though I've known you for a few months, I trust you with our children, Miss Stacey. And I'll let Will know that you and Geoffrey are taking the kiddos for a ride," she reassured me. "It sounds like Charlotte knows that you have a pure heart. She seems to love you very much."
"She's hinted multiple times that she wants me to marry Stacey," Geoffrey put in. "She never said that around — around Vivienne when we started dating. Charlotte was attached to her from the very moment," Geoffrey put in.
A blush crept up his face. There was no doubt in my mind that he was embarrassed by Charlotte's ability to make final conclusions.
Tiny footsteps were heard again and I faced the door to see that George had come back in, looking slightly annoyed, yet he had a boy-ish grin on his face.
"What are you two waiting for?" he insisted. "Charlie and I are waiting!"
"George!" said Princess Kate in shock. "You can't say stuff like that!"
But George was too excited to even care. He ignored his mother, grabbed my hand, and pulled me along, bouncing excitedly.
"I'll make sure to let him apologize to you later, Aunt Kate," Geoffrey reassured as he began to make his way out the door.
"I know that he probably didn't mean to be rude. He was excited. Thank you, Geoffrey," said Princess Kate.
George pulled me to my car by the arm. Once we'd reached my car, Charlotte was by the door, bouncing up-and-down with excitement, grinning from ear-to-ear.
"Open the door, Stacey! Please?!" Charlotte squealed excitedly.
I laughed.
"Hold on, little ones," I reassured them.
I grabbed the keys from my pocket and clicked the "open" button on my car keys. There was a click! and George immediately went to the car door's handle before Charlotte could reach it.
"Wow!" was all Charlotte could say as she took a look inside the car.
Her eyes were wide with awe and wonder. Her expression was so amusing, I had to bite down my laugh. She got up on one of the seats with George following after her, brushing her fingers gently against the ceiling. She squealed when she realized that there were sparkles embedded at the top of the car.
"It's sparkly!" she squealed, giggling.
I laughed.
"I know! And it's got the Milky Way imprinted in it, as well!"
"What's the Milky Way?" George interrupted, looking confused.
"Well, Georgie," said Geoffrey, "have you ever looked up at the sky at night?"
George nodded, though there was still a flicker of confusion in his eyes.
"I've heard about it, but I don't know what a Milky Way is!"
"You've seen the Milky Way before," Geoffrey hinted.
"No, I haven't! Isn't it supposed to be, like, an American candy?" George asked as he glanced over at me, puzzled. I laughed.
"The Milky Way candy is named after our Milky Way. The one in space, not the candy, George."
"Wait," said George as realization came over his face. "Is it that weird large cluster of stars, and other stuff?"
"Gas, and dust?" Geoffrey finished for him, grinning.
"Whatever it's made of. I don't pay attention in Science class."
"Well, here's an easy way to put it," I offered. "It's a pinwheel that surrounds our Earth."
"Ohhhhh!" said George. "Can we see it tonight? Outside?!"
"If you want to look out your window, you can," I answered, grinning. "Now, get in the car. I can see that Charlotte is starting to get a little annoyed."
"Finally!" Charlotte groaned. "I've been waiting forever!"
"Well, I was asking Geoff and Stacey a question, which they so patiently answered for me," George shot back playfully as he got his seatbelt on.
"Children, let's not fight. Let's enjoy a wonderful car ride, instead," I suggested as I put my keys in the ignition.
We were quiet for a while until Charlotte spoke again.
"I love your car, Stacey! Can we ride in it every time you come to Windsor castle?"
"Well, maybe not every time, but most times. It depends on how tired I am, or if I've had a long day or not."
"Well, life as a royal can be a little daunting," George agreed wisely. "I know that Mama, Papa, and Gan-Gan visit places, have meetings, and make speeches several times a week. I don't know if I'd ever be able to do that."
"You will one day, kiddo," Geoffrey reassured him. He reached over and patted his nephew's knee.
"I feel like I would get so nervous that I'd throw up!"
"Ew!" said Charlotte in disgust. She wrinkled her nose, clearly not a fan of what her brother just said. "That's disgusting! Don't talk about that, Georgie!"
"What? Someone's gonna vomit some time or another. Even you, sis."
"Shut up," Charlotte huffed, clearly not amused.
"Kids, kids," said Geoffrey in a firm but kind voice. "Let's not talk about that right now."
"Told you so," said Charlotte and she gave her brother a triumphant grin.
We drove around the property and eventually, Charlotte and George asked scientific questions, like how people predicted the weather, how the Earth was made, etc. They both seemed satisfied with the answers that we gave them about nature. By the time we were done talking, we'd pulled up to the long road that led to Windsor castle. I parked and then let the kids out. They both immediately jumped out of the car, running to the front doors of their home. I got out and so did Geoff, and both of us went inside the castle once again.
"Mama! Mama!" Charlotte squealed when Princess Kate joined us in the hallway.
"What is it, dear?" said Princess Kate as she picked her daughter up. George clung onto his mother's knees, hugging them tightly.
"We had a blast with Stacey and Geoff!"
"Yeah! And they taught us how our solar system works! Isn't that what you guys called it?" said George, who looked confused, as he glanced over at his uncle.
"You got it right," Geoffrey answered, giving him a double thumbs-up. "Good job, buddy!"
"They were telling us how our Solar System works," Charlotte added enthusiastically.
"Mama? Can we see the Milky Way tonight before bed?" George asked eagerly.
"If Geoffrey wouldn't mind taking you outside for a few moments before bed, then I'm sure you could see it. We're in the middle of nowhere, so we shouldn't have a problem with seeing the Milky Way tonight."
Both children cheered. Charlotte threw her arms around her mother's neck, hugging her tightly.
"Thank you, Mommy!" said Charlotte excitedly. She continued to hug her mother's neck tightly.
I laughed at their enthusiasm, thinking that it was very amusing to me. I then glanced over at the big Grandfather Clock that was in the entry hall. My insides did a double-take when I saw that the clock read 5:30 PM.
"Wow! I haven't realized that it's already 5:30!" I exclaimed in surprise. I sighed. "Well, I guess that I better leave. I don't want Andrei or Greatmama to get anxious. And I promised Andrei that I'd be home before 6:00."
"Well, you can go, then, dear," said Princess Katherine with a smile.
"Wait! Your stuff is still in my room! I'll go get them for you!" said Geoffrey, who suddenly just realized that my things were not with him.
"Are you sure? The backpack is quite heavy," I said quite anxiously.
Geoffrey shook his head, smiling.
"I'm sure I got it, Stace. I'll carry them to the car, if you want me to."
I blushed.
"Are you sure? I don't want to put a lot of pressure on you."
He waved his hand, waving my comment aside, smiling.
"I got it, Stace. I promise."
"Well, thanks, Geoff. I really appreciate it."
"Anything for my princess, I'll do," Geoffrey reassured me.
He glanced down at my lips. I knew what he was going for. I blushed, realizing that there were still other people in the room. But I let him lean in and give me a quick, spine-tingling, sweet kiss on my lips. I could feel the butterflies in my insides as his kiss lingered on my lips. I wanted more of the kiss, but he'd already left to go upstairs.
I glanced over at Charlotte and George. Charlotte had a huge grin on her face, and her eyes sparkled with delight.
"See, Georgie? What have I been telling you this entire time? I want them to marry each other! I'd love to have her as my Aunt one day!"
"Charlotte!" Geoffrey whined from on top of the stairs. He shook his head and continued to go to his bedroom to collect my things while I waited patiently for him to return with the children and Princess Katherine.
