Geoffrey's Surprise

We got in the car that Geoffrey had picked out, and took off for the hotel with the room that Geoffrey had already rented out the other day.

The drive from Jackson to Vicksburg was not terribly long, only about forty-five minutes. Thank goodness, we didn't have to worry about stopping during the drive. All I could look at was the lush, green countryside of Mississippi as we drove. The sun beat down on us with an unusual amount of heat.

"Stace, we're here," Geoffrey finally said.

I'd been so engrossed with watching the countryside fly by (and an occasional deer sprinting away from the car) that I didn't even realize that we'd approached the house.

I got a good look as we drove up to the Bed & Breakfast.

The house on the right side looked large. White paint covered the front of the house. The door facing us was black, as well were the shutters. It looked just like a traditional house. As we climbed out of the car, a new voice rang through the air.

"Welcome to Canemount," the woman greeted.

I turned to face her. She approached us and shook mine and Geoffrey's hands, smiling warmly at us. A man came out and also greeted us.

"My name is Diane. And this is my husband, Jim. Would you like for me to show the two of you your room?"

"If you wouldn't mind," I answered politely. "Yes, please."

"Follow me, please."

Diane, one of the owners, led us to our suite. When we came to a stop, she handed Geoffrey the keys, and smiled at him.

"I believe your room is on the first floor, right next to the lawn. The latest breakfast that we'll have is at ten o'clock. Earliest breakfast is at eight o'clock. Do you have a preference?"

Geoffrey and I glanced at each other.

"Ten o'clock sounds perfect," Geoffrey answered.

"Perfect. We'll be sure to prepare for that, Your Royal Highnesses. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

She bowed slightly before going away, back to the main house. Once she left, I glanced over at Geoffrey, and I smiled slightly.

"I'm excited to see the main house tomorrow, love," I finally said.

"Me, too," he agreed. He wrapped his arm around mine and gently pressed a kiss to my forehead. "Are you ready to unpack?"

"Definitely. And a nice, warm bath would be nice, too."

"Don't worry. I'll get that all set up for you. Just relax."

A blush crept up my cheeks.

"Geoff, you don't have to —"

Geoffrey pressed his pointer finger against my lips, immediately shushing me.

"I want to do it for you, love. Don't worry about me."

"This is one of the many reasons why I love you, Geoffrey Windsor," I said softly.

He brought me into a hug, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead.

"I love you, too, Stace."

We let go of the hug and began to unpack. When Geoffrey unlocked the cozy suite, I noticed that there was only one bed, and I felt my cheeks begin to heat up. I knew that I should have gotten used to sleeping by Geoffrey's side. But for some odd reason, snoozing in the same bed as him made me feel awkward.

"I'm going to make your bath, love!" Geoffrey shouted from the mini sink that stood right next to the bathroom in a little nook.

"Okay! Thanks, love!" I hollered back.

I could hear him rummaging around. As he continued to get my bath set up, I opened the wooden shutters and took my time to gaze outside the window. The land around the house and guest houses were lush and green. Several willows with long arms swayed in the slight Mississippian breeze. Green moss hung from most of the branches. There was no sound to be heard except for the running water of my bath and the sound of someone working on the lawn with loud lawnmowers.

I finally heard the water shut off, and I knew that Geoffrey had finished making me my bath. The door clicked open and Geoffrey's head peeked out. I could see him grinning at me, and I knew that he had some idea planned.

"Yes?"

"I'm done with making your bath, Stace," he said. He sounded proud of himself.

"Geoff? What are you planning?" I asked warningly.

"Me? I ain't planning anything."

"Yes, you are. I can tell by your smirk."

The triumphant smile on Geoffrey's face finally faded and he sighed.

"I'm never going to be a good liar, will I?" he finally grumbled.

"Maybe not. But I still love you."

"I love you, too. Are you ready to see what I had prepared for you?"

I raised my eyebrows in suspicion again and made my way to the bathroom. Geoffrey held the door for a dramatic second before opening it. I gasped when I got a look at the bathroom.

"Geoff," I breathed, clearly amazed by what I was seeing. "It's beautiful! I never knew that a bath could be this pretty and beautiful."

The jet streams were blowing gently, creating bubbles with their force. My favorite vanilla and toasted almond bubble bath soap made the bubbles even more poofy. A wooden rest was placed against each end of the tub with my regular kindle put on to my favorite romantic T.V. show: Reign. Candles were pink placed every few inches away from each other, creating a romantic kind of vibe. I could smell the toasted vanilla almond bubble bath already wafting through my nose.

"It's beautiful," I said, my voice quiet.

"What's wrong, love?" Geoffrey asked, sounding concerned.

"Nothing. It's just so sweet that you thought of all of this. I can't thank you enough. Where did you get the bath tray and candles?"

"I got them from home, shortly after I'd told you that I had finished booking our suite," Geoffrey answered. I could feel his arms wrapping around my waist bringing my back closer to his body.

"It's so lovely. I can't wait to jump in that tub and watch Reign."

Geoffrey laughed, clearly enjoying the look on my face.

"Well, if you need anything, I'll be in the bedroom part of the suite."

I nodded, waiting for Geoffrey to leave before I could strip down and enjoy the bath.

When I came out of the bathroom, I felt refreshed. I sighed, ruffling my hair, and then brushing it out with my favorite hair brush. I glanced over at Geoffrey and saw him lying down on the bed, reading a book. But once I'd gotten out of the bathroom, he smiled, putting his book down next to him.

"Hello, beautiful," he greeted.

"Hello, love."

"Did you enjoy your bath?"

"I did, indeed. Thank you so much, it was beautiful, and so thoughtful of you."

"You probably did need one. We were stuck on an airplane for nearly fourteen hours. I'm sure you wanted one by the time we landed in Reykjavik."

"I did. And now, I'm finally happy to sleep in a comfortable bed."

"We have quite the day ahead of us, love. I hope you're ready for it."

Something tugged on my thoughts at the back of mind, but I ignored it. I only thought that he planned fun things for us to do this weekend.

We chatted for a little bit before falling asleep in each other's embrace.

Next morning, we got a tour of the house. It was so beautiful, and I was impressed that this house had been standing since Ulysses S. Grant's time during the American Civil War, and that his army possibly marched down the road that we'd just driven on! To me, it was amazing what you can find when learning about history.

"Hey, Stace. Are you ready to go to lunch?" Geoffrey asked after we'd finished touring a very old house called the McRaven Mansion.

"Yeah! I'm getting hungry."

After eating at Rusty's Riverfront Grill for lunch and going shopping for dinner tonight, we finally went back to the hotel to relax a little bit, playing a few rounds of War with classic solitaire cards, and a game or two of chess.

"Hey, I'm going to set up dinner on the picnic table, alright?" said Geoffrey in a light voice. But I could hear a bit of a change in his voice. Like it was almost forced and tight. Full of nerves. But I decided to ignore that and I smiled sweetly at him before pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek.

"You go do that, love. I'll get ready for the picnic."

"You don't have to wear anything too fancy, dear. It's only a picnic."

"Alright. If you say so."

He left with the basket of food, leaving me bouncing nervously around on my feet. I wondered what he had planned for tonight. Then, I remembered Nat's words about her suspicions that Geoffrey had wanted to propose to me. I shook that thought out of my head, not wanting to get my hopes up.

To distract myself, I did my hair up in double French braids to my long, curly red hair. I put on a nice tank top, and a pair of light blue jeans with a pair of white Converse shoes. I added a little bit of makeup to my face, but not too much. Just enough to brighten my eyes.

Finally, a light knock sounded at the door. I turned around.

"Come in," I called, knowing that it would be Geoffrey.

He came in, looking nervous. His eyes widened when he saw me in my outfit, and he sucked in his breath.

"Wow, Stace. You look gorgeous."

I blushed and giggled lightly.

"Thank you, handsome," I answered as I approached him.

"Well, are you ready, My Lady?" he asked as he stuck his elbow out for me to cling onto.

"I'm one hundred percent ready, Geoff," I answered reassuringly.

He smiled nervously and we walked to the picnic table together. When we rounded the corner, I gasped when I saw how beautiful the picnic table had been decorated. A large Miss-to-Mrs.? sign had been set up at the end of the wooden plank. Candles surrounded the table where the two of us were going to sit at. Rose petals had been scattered around the circle were the candles were.

"Geoff," I breathed, amazed at what I was seeing. I let go of his arm in shock. "What's all this?"

Geoff turned to face me, looking nervous.

"Stace? I have something to tell you." He took in another deep breath. "Ever since I met you at Arcadia Prep, I fell in love with you immediately. You brought light to my life when I was in an abusive relationship with Vivienne. You were with me every step of the way while I was recovering from that attack. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So . . . ."
He got down on one knee and took out a black velvet box. He opened it up and revealed a large, pink, pearl ring. I gasped and put both hands to my mouth. Tears came to my eyes, and I was pretty sure that I was beginning to look a wreck.

"Will you marry me?"
