Chapter Twenty: The battle
Joseph and Wamuu continued their battle. Joseph covered his hammer with oil and filled it with hamon, the brunet looked pretty proud of his hammer. (Y/n) had a feeling that it was Wamuu's plan all along to let Joseph get the Hammer first. The plum haired girl's suspicions were confirmed as Wamuu slowed his chariot. Lisa Lisa commented on how the chariot was slowing, making Kars remind her that this was not a race, but a death match. (Y/n)'s red eyes watched as Wamuu tore down the column with his bare hands to use as a weapon. The girl and the vampires all chuckled at this. Then laughed at Joseph's face falling when he saw the warrior behind him.
The vampires observing this fight shouted their mockery at Joseph. (Y/n) felt a little bad for the vampire servant that was still on the column. He looked so scared. Lisa Lisa yelled at Joseph to get away from Wamuu, to speed up.
The call came a little too late as Wamuu slammed the column down on the chariot. Joseph abandoned his chariot to avoid being crushed to death by the stone column, the vampire on it was crushed to death immediately. The brunet man rolled along the ground and dropped his hammer. The options he had were very few, and moat were going to be fatal. The vampires cheered as they watched Joseph stumble around after getting up. Kars chuckled at how short the fight was. The British young man looked for his hammer as Wamuu's chariot charged towards him.
Joseph picked the hammer up and ran right at the chariot. Lisa Lisa understood what he was doing. He was going to use momentum to launch himself over the chariot to attack Wamuu! Kars was quite shocked at the insane thinking this human had.
The hammer struck the yoke that connected the vampire horses together and launched Joseph into the air. Allowing him to get out of the way. He did not see Wamuu move as he did this though, the warrior had vanished from this hamon user's sight. (Y/n) saw her uncle hide inside one of the horses. "Jojo is pretty clever. He is quick, like his grandfather. But let's see if he can do this.," the girl between Kars and Lisa Lisa spoke as she watched the fight.
Joseph landed on a horse and looked for his opponent, unaware of what Wamuu had done. He was confused to see that Wamuu was missing from his place in the chariot. Kars chuckled softly, "Wamuu is always one step ahead of Jojo." (Y/n) watched the battle still, sometimes looking up to the other side of the arena to see if those mystery people were still there. The woman was still there, the man had moved to another part of the arena. He was sitting in the shadows next to the vampires with the weapons. The little girl's eyes went back to the arena and watched as Wamuu's hand reached out of the horse he was hiding in and grab Joseph's boot. The British teen was able to slip his foot out of his boot to escape what would have been a crushing grip. The vampires watching jeered and Kars scoffed, he wanted this to be overwith.
Both of Wamuu's hands were free. Which means he could unleash his divine sandstorm! If it hit Joseph, it would be game over! Joseph swung his hammer to strike both the horse and Wamuu. Kars laughed, "The fool! He doesn't see the trap!" "Look out, Jojo! Stay away from Wamuu!," Lisa Lisa shouted to the hamon user. Her calls came too late as Wamuu emerged from the horse. His arms and fists were in position, his stance was perfect. The divine sandstorm was going to be used. Wamuu spun the wind around his arms into the deadly maelstrom he had perfected over his many thousands of years of life. Nobody would be able to survive a direct hit, not without some assistance immediately afterwards, that is.
The maelstrom tore at Joseph's body, he was spurting blood from many places on his skin. The young British man fell back into the chariot he was given. The vampires cheered as they thought the battle was over. Their enemy seemingly defeated. Kars sat down and snapped his fingers for the butler vampire to give him a glass of wine. The ancient godlike man spoke to the woman hamon user, "Even though it was only a few laps, it was a fight full of twists, wasn't it? But in the end, Wamuu was the better thinker and fighter."
Kars took a sip of his wine as he took a small vial from his daughter's bag, another batch of deadly poison that she had been tasked with carrying. "The next battle is between us. To be honest, I rather not fight a woman. Especially one who resembles (y/n)'s mother. But, all hamon users must be destroyed and your reminding me of what I lost irritates me." The red eyed man tossed the vial of poison to the woman, "Drink that for a quick and painless death." (Y/n) looked between her father and Lisa Lisa, so that was the reason he did not like Lisa Lisa and was glaring at the woman. The girl already knew her father did not like to fight women, Wamuu absolutely hated the idea of it. Wamuu the idea hated hurting women and children.
Lisa Lisa smiled, "You are mistaken, the battle is not yet over." (Y/n) was hugging her father's neck when the vampire butler came back, "L-Lord Kars! Look over there!" Kars shot up suddenly and dropped his wine glass, "What?!"
Wamuu was completely out of it, his forearms were barely holding onto the rest of his arms. He had to be in immense pain from the face he was making. Pale and sweaty. Kars demanded to know what happened to his warrior. It was then that they saw Joseph was getting up.
Joseph had survived the divine sandstorm! (Y/n) assessed the situation. Joseph had used his feet to wrap the hamon-conducting reigns around Wamuu's arms as he was using divine sandstorm, short-circuiting the attack! He made it look like he was hit with a direct attack! (Y/n) was sort of impressed but she was worried about Wamuu, the confidence in himself he had built over his long life had been shattered in that one moment. The girl dropped off of her father's shoulders. The man stepped forward and gave the signal to put the next set of weapons out.
The vampires obeyed and got put onto the track, acting as the column that the weapons would have hung on, had it not been smashed by Wamuu. The weapons were crossbows that had a pair of iron balls to act as ammo. A big one and a small one. The big one had a lot of power, but was hard to pull the bow back. The small was was easy to load, but weaker. The girl stood at the edge of the platform that she, her father and Lisa Lisa were observing from. From behind her, she heard her father chuckle.
"Lisa Lisa, let me say what is on your mind. 'Wamuu's mind is in no state to fight, so why is Kars deploying weapons with such confidence?' It makes you nervous, right?," Kars spoke and laid his head in his palm while smiling smugly, "Here's why. It's because Wamuu is a true warrior."
(Y/n) watched Wamuu, he looked her defeated and broken. Her voice broke out, calling to him, "Wamuu!" His eyes seemed to focus again as he straightened himself up. The girl saw his thumbs go up, she covered her eyes as he gouged his put with his thumbs. She could still see him with her horns, like he taught her how to do. His own horn came out of his forehead. He would use the wind currents around him to see instead of his eyes. He could just grow them back later. "His switch was to remove his eyes, as gruesome as it is... He is psychologically invincible now.," Kars explained to Lisa Lisa. The woman had to have thought it disturbing for the warrior to poke out his own eyes just for a fight, she looked down to the girl covering her own eyes as she held the doll she received over fifty years ago.
(Y/n)'s own silvery horns glinted in the light of the fires. Kars called his daughter back to him as Joseph grabbed the big crossbow, leaving the smaller one for Wamuu. It was not a good choice for Joseph as he was unable to pull the string back on the crossbow. He was suffering now from the greed he had. Wamuu pulled back the string on his crossbow easily and loaded a ball shot into the bow. He shot the crossbow and killed one of Joseph's horses. (Y/n) felt the horse die with her horns, she sensed Joseph jump onto the other one to ride it.
The vampires around them shouted that they wanted to eat Joseph after Wamuu killed him, (y/n) shouted that she would feed on him once he is dead to shut them up. Joseph tried again and again to pull the string back on the crossbow, he was only met with resistance and roughed fingers. He noticed Wamuu aiming at him again and sped up to get into a blind spot made by he massive fire swirling in the middle of the arena. The warrior of wind was not deterred and shot his second shot at the wall, allowing the ball to follow the course of the wall around the arena. He was banking a shot like one would in a game of billiards.
The ball rolled around the arena walls before hitting a pole and flying out, right into the side of Joseph! The impact knocked him off of his horse and made him fall to the ground. The child opened her eyes and saw he was spitting up blood as well, he must have had internal organ damage. The ball had lost a lot of momentum, so it was not fatal or pierce the skin. But, there was a pretty good chance of severe internal damage.
"Wamuu, finish him! But be careful, Jojo is a crafty one!," Kars ordered his warrior. Wamuu heard his master's words, he was preparing himself for tricks that Jojo might have up his sleeve. The wind warrior rode his horses to get closer to Joseph. Joseph laid on the ground until the blond warrior was close enough and lifted himself up to shoot his crossbow. His internal damage seemed to be too much for him as his shot went wild.
A chorus of laughter erupted from the vampires around. Kars himself even laughed at the misfortune of the brunet brit, "Almost! Almost! His shot went wild! I should commend him for fighting until the very end though."
Red eyes of both Kars and his daughter watched the arena below them. Joseph began to throw rocks and act like he was afraid and begging for his life. The vampires began to boo and jeer. Joseph kept throwing rocks at Wamuu. The ball that Joseph had shot before rammed right through Wamuu's chest. Everyone was shocked at this. Wamuu fell forward, feigning falling to kick at Joseph. The hamon user countered with a hamon strike to Wamuu's legs.
The amount of hamon that was coursing through Wamuu's body had to be excruciating. (Y/n) hid from the sight by hiding her face in her father's chest. She felt Wamuu rise from his place on the ground, sitting on his knees. Kars let his daughter cling to him out of grief for the state the beloved warrior was in. The girl looked after Lisa Lisa mentioned that Wamuu fired the severed arms out of the hole in his chest.
She hated to see Wamuu like that. He was so tragic and in pain, a far cry from the proud and Noble warrior that (y/n) saw him as.
Her eyes had small tears in them, "Wamuu!" The warrior's head lifted up towards the night sky. "This is my ultimate mastery of wind!," the warrior announced as his body was sucking in massive amounts of air. Kars recognized exactly what he was doing and got panicked, "Stop! Wamuu! You cannot do that!"
"My final mode. Atmospheric rift!," Wamuu said before the pressure inside his body reached a critical point. The flesh on his shoulders and the headpiece he wore burst from the pressure. It was horrific to the young pillar that was watching her uncle tear his own body apart in order to defeat this hamon user. He was firing the pressurized air as a razor thin blade of wind from his horn. The blade of wind was getting closer and closer to Joseph's face and body. The flesh from Wamuu's shoulders and back was disintigrating.
"His tragic warrior figure is breathtaking.," Kars commented before calling to his warrior, "Wamuu! Victory is yours! Take his life to salve your wounds!"
(Y/n)'s grip on her father only increased as she saw the razor of wind approach Joseph's neck. The British young man took a bottle of oil from his pocket and held it up to the flames behind him. He yelped as the razor of air cut his ear, alerting Wamuu to his position. Joseph threw the oil bottle at him and Wamuu cut the bottle in half. The contents spilled. Wamuu set up to fire his air again when Joseph set the headband he wore ablaze and threw it at Wamuu while calling Ceasar's name. Wamuu again cut what was thrown at him.
That was his fatal mistake... The pressurized air in his body, mixed with flammable oil and fire... it turned Wamuu into a bomb.
Wamuu blew up, only his head and legs remained. His torso was completely gone. "Wamuu!," (y/n) cried for her uncle, her tears now flowing uncontrollably. She had not cried this hard since she learned of the deaths of her brothers. Kars held his crying daughter. Each felt the other's emotional pain, both in torment of what they saw before them. Joseph got up and walked towards the severed head of his opponent as Lisa Lisa told him to finish off Wamuu.
Joseph and Wamuu traded a few words before Joseph struck a rock beside Wamuu's head. The blood from the resulting cut was poured onto Wamuu's wound. He must have done this to ease Wamuu's pain. (Y/n) dropped from her father's arms and jumped into the arena, Kars did nothing to stop her. The fight was over. Joseph had won. She was going to say goodbye to the noble warrior that she looked up to.
She landed near Wamuu's head after using a vampire below her as a springboard. Her small hands picked up the severed head as she hugged the dying beloved warrior. "Jojo, lady (y/n). I have lost. Jojo, as a warrior, you have stood taller than I.," the head of the proud warrior spoke. The vampires became enraged at the defeat of their master, they charged in to kill Joseph in retribution for what he did to Wamuu. This angered Wamuu. The warrior used what power he had left to defend Joseph after he got out of the child's arms, his horn broke in the process.
(Y/n) picked up his head again and picked up his horn as well. It was warm. She put it into the same pocket she held Esidisi's horn. Joseph asked why Wamuu defended him. The plum haired girl hugged the warrior's head, "Because he respects you." "It is true. I may serve Kars, but I will not allow the vampires to harm you.," Wamuu explained, "As I told Caesar before, It's not because I am sentimental. To me, only the strong warriors are real. Victory is just and admirable. For all my life, I have lived by a code of honor. To me, immortality is trivial. All I had before (y/n) was my honor code."
Wamuu no longer had the sense of power to him. He was honest and warm during his final moments, "Jojo, before I fade, I want you to take the antidote. I will know when you do." (Y/n) looked up at Joseph as he took the antidote. The antidote Caesar worked to get for him. The blond warrior's face was gentle as he smiled, having no regrets. He was happy. "Jojo, (y/n). I am glad I was able to see you grow. Perhaps this is exactly what my thousands of years of life has led me to.," Wamuu spoke, "(y/n) I am sorry."
(Y/n) felt his life fade as she hugged his head tight, tears dripping onto his face. He would soon join her mother and Esidisi in the afterlife, along with all the other pillars who had died many millenia ago. "Good... bye...," Wamuu breathed out as he faded.
His ashes spread into the wind.
Joseph knelt next to the girl and held his hand out, he got a kick to the chest when she got up. "You will not be forgiven.," She hissed and returned to her father with a powerful jump.
Now, Lisa Lisa had to face Kars.
