Chapter Twenty six: The Curse from the past
Kakyoin did not question about (y/n) wanting to stay by him that night as he stayed over. The little girl was curled up beside him as he slept. They talked about her brother that night before the red haired male went to sleep. The little plum haired girl was woken up by the screams of her adopted father. Her red eyes looked to the red haired teen who was up as well. "I'll go see what is happening, Noriaki.," (y/n) said as she stood and left.
She walled to the kitchen and overheard that Holly was sick because she had a 'stand'. She also heard that it was her brother's fault that she had the stand. The pillar girl walked in as Joseph and Jotaro had a little scuffle.
Jotaro had a harsh look on his face, "What are we supposed to do? Tell me what needs to be done to make my mother better." "We have to kill my brother.," (y/n) said, "Finish what Jonathan started one hundred years ago. If Dio made all of you have stands, then his death will end Holly's suffering."
Joseph let his grandson go, "She's right, Dio has to be killed. But the only problem is that we don't know where he is." Holly was taken back to her room and laid into bed as they looked at the photos that Joseph had. (Y/n) looked over the pictures that Joseph had of Dio. These pictures were taken by 'stand power'. Whatever that is. The red eyed girl examined the pictures and saw the heartbreaking truth of what happened one hundred years ago on that honeymoon cruise. She dropped the photo and covered her mouth. That is why she could not pin only one scent, why she could not tell who it was immediately. Dio's head was on Jonathan's body. She felt sick. She could handle seeing people be torn apart by her father and uncles, but this was making her sick. It had to be from her emotional attachment to the two.
The girl kept the bile arising in her throat from coming up. She still loved him. He was her 'older brother'. Joseph explained that he can never tell where Dio was because he always hiding in the shadows. The girl sat beside Avdol and looked at the pictures, she looked at one where she saw his eyes. It was the same eyes she knew from one hundred years ago. It was the same expression she had seen him give Jonathan.
(Y/n) looked at the floor as she thought hard. That scent she picked up with the flesh bud. Where had she smelled it before? Her eyes widened a little. She was Italy. She raised her hand, "I caught Dio's scent before about two years ago. He was in Italy. But I think he was moving west from what I sensed." Joseph nodded, "That helps a little, (y/n)."
Her red eyes lifted up to Jotaro when he took the photo from her. He was using his 'stand' to look at the picture. He grabbed a notepad and said that his stand saw something in the darkness. The pencil he had was grabbed by an invisible force and it started to draw. The picture that came out was that of a fly. Some sort of tsetse fly. Avdol took the picture of the fly and went to the Kujo's library to look in an encyclopedia for the type of fly it was.
The girl looked to her stepsister. She was so weak. For a moment, (y/n) saw George Joestar. This reminded her of when her first adopted father was sick because of the poison that Dio gave him. The pillar girl could not stay in the room, she was on the edge of just breaking down crying. She left that room and went to somewhere else to hide and cry. She felt like this was all her fault. It was her mask that made Dio into a vampire. Dio wanted power and she never saw it. If only she had not been found. Then perhaps, just perhaps, the Joestars would have been safe. She felt a hand on her shoulder. Her red eyed met violet ones as she wiped the tears from her cheeks.
Kakyoin and Avdol were there. "Miss (y/n)?," Avdol spoke questioningly. "It's all my fault. Dio, this whole situation, it's all because of me.," the little girl cried, "Dio wanted to be more powerful, so he used my mask and threw away his humanity one hundred years ago. Had I not been found, Dio would have been put in prison for his crimes and would have died many years ago. Jonathan would be alive still." Kakyoin and Avdol listened to what the girl said.
"It's happening again. Dio is poisoning someone I love again in his quest to quench his thirst for power. First is was George Joestar, now it is Holly.," the little girl continued, "My brothers, I lost them one hundred years ago. But now one has returned and is wearing the body of another." Avdol looked somewhat surprised before composing himself, "Mr. Joestar did mention that you have lived for a long time and had lived with hid grandfather." "Not just lived, Jonathan and Dio are two that I love deeply. Though not my blood relation, they were my family.," the girl replied and wiped her eyes. She pulled the picture of her adopted family from her bag and showed it to Avdol and Kayoin.
The two looked at the picture and saw what the family looked like as children.
The girl put the picture away and stood, "You two are going after Dio right? I'm going to call the Speedwagon foundation, their doctors will take care of her while you travel to look for him. Humans are so much more delicate than those like I..." the tiny child walked away from the two and to the phone, where she called the Speedwagon foundation headquarters in Tokyo and told them the problem.
After telling the foundation what was going on and getting through to a team of doctors, she hung up to wait for then to arrive. (Y/n)'s mind wandered a little. Kakyoin was not the only child she met and befriended in her exploration of Japan. There were several other children that she made met. Some of them mistook her for a Kijo, hannya or Zashiki warashi. She found this somewhat amusing to be mistaken for these fabled creatures.
The pillar watched as her adopted father, Joseph and the others got ready to go after learning that Dio was in Egypt. The doctor from the Speedwagon foundation soon arrived and the group could move on now. Before they left, Avdol wanted to give each one of their stands a name. He let each one of them pull a tarot card.
Jotaro pulled the star, his stand was Star Platinum.
Joseph pulled the hermit, his stand was Hermit Purple.
Noriaki Kakyoin pulled the Hierophant card, his was Hierophant green.
And finally, Magician's Red for Avdol.
They were rather hesitant about letting (y/n) come with them. She did not have a stand to protect herself with. But, she did not need one. She was a half pillar. She could heal herself of many injuries with little consequence. She could sense enemy stand users. The group decided that she would be helpful for them to have around. Joseph allowed her to come, stating that it would be pretty much impossible to keep her from following anyway. She walked with them to the airport where they would be getting onto their flight. If everything went smoothly, then they would be to Egypt in a few days and will be fighting Dio. The girl waited as her adopted father bought tickets for the flight. She looked at the circlet that her father gave her many years prior. The circlet that had once belonged to her mother.
It was a beautiful gold circlet that had moons and stars on it. Jotaro saw it and motioned toward it with an inquisitive motion. "It was my mother's. She was murdered the night I was born.," (Y/n) answered, "Father gave it to me as a final gift along with the pendant that I am wearing." "May I see it?," Avdol asked and took the circlet once he was given permission, "It is lovely. The craftsmanship is incredible. This is a very symbolic piece, the stars mean protection, while the moons are maternal affection and unity."
The girl took it back, "I never knew much about my mother other than father liked her and that she was murdered for having me."
"I'm sure she would be proud of you.," Avdol said and held his card deck out to the girl, "Try pulling some cards." The girl pulled three cards without looking at them and handed them to the fortune teller. He looked at the cards, "The high priestess, the lovers and the wheel of fortune. Interesting."
"I don't put much faith in cards or acts of fortune telling. Whatever you see in those cards, I don't want to know to be honest.," The girl said and returned her mother's circlet to her bag. Her fingers brushed over her uncles' horns. The girl pulled the horns out to look at them. They had been polished to a mirror shine by the girl. For a split second, she could have sworn that she saw Esidisi and Wamuu in the reflection of the horns. The girl looked behind her, having a feeling of needing to look back. All she saw was a group of elderly people. One was acting a little strangely as he was looking around.
She placed her uncles' horns back in her bag when it was time for them to board the plane. They were seated all together as a group. She sat between Joseph and Jotaro. Her red eyes closed as she rested for any potential fights that may occur. Her head rested on Jotaro's abdomen, he was big and muscular. The little girl had a small smile on her face as she dozed on her nephew. Joseph watched the two doze. He found it kind of adorable. He put his hat over his face and leaned back to doze off himself, kind and gentle dreams meeting his tired and worried mind.
The plane ride was quiet. They could only hear snoozing humans and the consistent whirring of the engines. It was peaceful and had an air of ease. Kakyoin and Avdol's slow and deep breathing joined the others as they rested for what was yet to come. They knew the risks. They knew the costs. They knew what would happen if they failed.
They had only fifty days before Holly's stand suffocated her with her own latent power. She was too kind and gentle to be able to handle a stand. This was a death sentence for the kind and warm woman. They had to kill Dio to save Holly. To finish what Jonathan started one hundred years ago, to break the curse Dio had laid over the Joestar name.
(Y/n) loved her brother still and her heart hurt from knowing what they had to do to him. She felt like she was responsible for this. She knew in the back of her mind that it was not her, her father was the one who made the mask and Dio rejected his humanity and wore the mask.
The red eyed girl felt Jotaro and Joseph stiffen as Joseph mentioned that he felt Dio looking at him. So Dio knew that they were coming. Dio probably did not know that his 'little sister' was still alive. He probably believed her to be dead, he had given her a wound that would have been Fatal to anyone else. She had heard his screech after he did injure her, something about blaming Jonathan for the wound. She did not remember exactly what as she had focused on healing herself immediately after that point.
In a dark room in Egypt, a blond man walked about, waiting, watching, stalking. His servants waited his orders in the corner of his room. The candlelight lit him and his surroundings faintly. His black nailed hands reached out as thorny vines grew from his hand and arm, he tapped a camera lightly and a picture popped out. He held it up and looked at it. The picture held an image of Jotaro and Joseph.
"As I figured. They figured out my location. Will you two follow me to Egypt, Joseph and Jotaro?," the menacing figure asked the image of the two before looking down a bit, "Hm? What is that on Jotaro's torso?"
The blond tapped the camera again and another picture popped out, he held the picture up as it develeoped. His servants came closer as the image of a small girl clinging to Jotaro develeoped on the photograph. The man was silent in quiet shock before finding his voice.
"So, you're not dead after all. That is quite intriguing, little sister."
