Chapter thirty-four: broken horns

A Vehicle was purchased for them to travel to Pakistan in. (Y/n) sat in the back on Jotaro's lap as Polnareff and Kakyoin was up front. Joseph sat beside Jotaro and (y/n). The old man was trying to get the little girl to sit with him, but she was refusing and clinging to Jotaro. The Frenchman was driving and passed a car on a narrow road, Joseph scolded him to be more careful. They drove a little further before Polnareff slammed on the brakes. The old man scolded Polnareff as his adopted daughter kicked the Frenchman's seat, "I told you to be more careful, Polnareff!"
The Frenchman pointed to a person on the road, "Look who it is!" All of them looked and saw it was Anne. She made it all the way out to the Indo-Pakastani border. (Y/n) sighed as Jotaro grabbed his hat in irritation and spoke his favorite line. Against common sense, they let Anne get a ride. It was safer for her to travel with them instead of being picked up by some person who was not as nice as they were.

(Y/n) held onto her doll as Joseph finally got to have her sit in his lap as Anne sat between him and Jotaro. Anne was chatting a lot before the pillar girl stuck her hand right into Anne's head. That got the brunette to stop talking and freak out for a bit as the little girl removed her hand from the taller girl's head. "We've been through a lot Anne. It would be appreciated if you had a little more discretion.," the pillar girl said and hugged her doll. Anne looked at all of them, "Oh... I'm sorry." "No, it's okay, you did not know.," Joseph spoke as he patted the hair of his adopted daughter.
The tiny child played with her porcelain doll as the car from before came up behind them. The child froze immediately. Joseph noted her reaction, "There is a stand user nearby. Be careful." "Got it.," Polnareff said and looked in the rear view mirror, "This guy is in a hurry." The Frenchman let the car pass by. (Y/n) felt the hair on her neck raise, there was something really wrong with that car. The car sped by before slowing down and kicking up a lot of dust into the vehicle it passed. Rude.

"He might be mad at you for driving recklessly earlier.," Kakyoin said. "Did you get a look at his face?", Jotaro asked. "Not at all.," Polnareff answered, "There's too much dust on the windows." Jotaro leaned back, "(y/n). Keep up with searching for the stand user you sensed." "Be careful Polnareff.," Joseph said as he hugged his adopted daughter a little tighter. Polnareff laughed after a bit, "He's telling me to pass now, he must have remembered how shitty his car is. Should have stayed behind me, Dumbass."
(Y/n) could have sworn she heard someone say, 'Language'. It sounded female. She was about to say something when there was an impact and the vehicle went flying. She felt a sharp pain to her head and heard a snap sound. Everyone was okay. Thankfully. Jotaro had protected Anne from the impact, Joseph shielded most of the impact from (y/n)... But he did not do enough. As she was stunned and limp. Three glowing wounds on her head and a cracked porcelain doll in her hands. Joseph was too busy wondering where the car that did that was. Jotaro told him that it was gone. Polnareff and Kakyoin said it may have been an assassin sent by DIO to take them out.

"Hey, (y/n), did you sense stand energy from-," Polnareff asked then stopped when he saw the girl was wounded, "Merde. She's injured." Joseph tapped her cheeks and got no response from the stunned child, "The horns of a pillar are filled with nerves. They are able to sense things we cannot thanks to their horns, she is stunned from shock." Joseph pointed to the horns on the floor, "Anne, gather the horns we need to reattach them. Polnareff, keep driving, just be careful."
Kakyoin looked back, "Is she going to be okay?" "She will be fine. One hundred years ago, she survived a wound that would have killed a human. That wound was inflicted on her by DIO, albeit accidentally. DIO was trying to kill my grandfather, Jonathan, when she got between them and protected Jonathan.," Joseph explained. The red haired Japanese teen nodded and turned around in his seat as the vehicle drove off, "What shall we do about the truck there?" "Act like we never saw it.," Jotaro answered. Joseph and Anne carefully reattached the horns, a small glowing line was still on the horns when they were done. Joseph pulled the fabric of the head wrap from the child's bag and looked at it, "So you kept this. I don't blame you."

Joseph used the fabric of the head wrap to secure the girl's horns into place and tied the fabric into a bow at the end. The old man had a small sad smile on his face as he finished the bow, "You kept your father's headwrap." "That was her father's?," Anne asked as Kakyoin looked back to see the work that Joseph did. "Yes, her father, the leader of the last of their kind. Kars was one of the most difficult battles I have ever fought.," the old man said. He looked to the doll she was holding. It had a large Crack in its face. He sighed and patted the little girl's head softly, "We'll take care of this, (y/n). You should just focus on healing." Polnareff drove carefully until they found a place to rest at. The group got out and Joseph held (y/n)'s hand as they walked to the rest stop café.
Joseph left Anne and (y/n) to talk to the owner as the others kept watch. The two girls stuck close together. Anne looked at the little girl's horns, "I think they look a little better. How are you feeling?" "Blind. I usually use them to make sure my surroundings are safe.," the small child replied with a more nervous voice. The small plum haired girl hugged her damaged doll as the taller brunette watched her. They heard fighting inside the cafe before the men they were traveling with ran out, the car was there.

(Y/n) was scooped up and they all got into the vehicle to chase after the car. "He will pay for what he did with the truck and for breaking (y/n)'s horns.," Polnareff said as he gunned the gas and took off after the car. The plum haired pillar held her doll in one hand and hugged Joseph's arm with the other. She was genuinely scared for her safety and the others' safety as she was blinded, she no longer had the radar ability that kept her and her companions safe. Polnareff chased after the car until it disappeared near a cliff. He had to turn their vehicle to keep it from falling off of the cliff. The plum haired girl was clinging to her adopted father. She knew she would survive the fall, but everyone else most likely would not.
"I don't like this.," She whined in her pathetic and scared state. Polnareff looked around, "Where the hell did he go? He just vanished after that curve!" Kakyoin was on edge as well, "The car would not be able to cross the suspension bridge there. Where did he go?" The vehicle they were in was jolted forward by an impact from behind. The car was trying to push them off the cliff. "It's him! But how did he get behind us?!," Joseph said. "No doubt, this is an assassin my brother sent to kill all of you!," (y/n) said, "He's trying to push us off this cliff!"

Polnareff put the car in reverse to push back against the one attempting to kill them, "His shitty car has a lot of horsepower!" Polnareff started to exit the car when Kakyoin scolded him for tying to run and removing his foot from the brake. Their vehicle was thrown off of the cliff by the car. (Y/n) felt a panic set in. Her heart was beating fast and she was beginning to feel sick. Kakyoin acted quickly, using his Hierophant to use the wench on the front of their vehicle to attach them to the car above. This stopped their descent. Jotaro used his star platinum to pull them up the rope of the wench and punch the car into the ravine below.
Everyone was a little sore from the impact. They all got out to see the car in the ravine engulfed in flame. Joseph sighed, "(y/n). Was this a stand user?" The girl nodded, "Up to the point my horns broke, I sensed a stand from that driver. He was an assassin sent by my brother, Dio." "There is no way someone would survive that.," Polnareff said, "Guess he got what was coming to him." (Y/n) stood away from the edge and hugged her damaged doll, the one that Jonathan gave her. She watched the others look at the car as she felt a faint feeling of someone embrace her and a movement in the corner of her eye. The girl looked to the movement and whatever was there disappeared from view. On the wall of the canyon was tire tracks.

She understood what happened, "The car was being affected by the stand!" Her words came just before the radio of their car came on and a man's voice played. "The little one is sharp! My car was indeed affected by my stand, Joestars!," the voice said, "And she is right, DIO sent me to kill you. The wheel of Fortune, that is the card my stand represents!" (Y/n) heard rumbling from below the ground, "Get away from the vehicle, now!" The group narrowly escaped being attacked from underground. The enemy car had burrowed through the rock to get back to them. Anne ran to the pillar girl and they watched as it seemed to morph before their eyes into something like a living creature. "It's just like the ship with that orangutan!," Anne said. "But worse.," the tiny pillar said, "This guy is human, so he does not have the limited thinking that the ape had."
The pillar girl gave Anne her doll and scooped her up to jump up onto the cliff above to get away from the danger as Jotaro challenged the stand user. (Y/n) was about to reach the cliff when the rock her foot landed on skipped from its place on the edge of the cliff. The plum haired girl threw Anne onto the ground as she fell, being grabbed and pulled up at the last second. The brunette girl had the fair arm of the pillar child in her hand but was looking at the shadow that was next to her hand, a shadow larger than her hand.

Anne let the little girl go once she was pulled up, her face was terrified. "I just wanted to travel, I ran away from home but now...," the brunette said and got smacked by the plum haired girl. "Anne! This is not the time!," the little pillar said, "When we are done here, we are sending you home. It is too dangerous for you to come with us. I don't know why you ran away from home, but I know that if your family is anything similar to the one that adopted me, They are worried sick about you." The little girl's red eyes looked at the scene below them, The men were running from the crazed stand user.
Jotaro and the others had been shot with some kind of invisible bullets. Their wounds were bleeding pretty badly. "Everyone, up here!," the little girl called down to her companions. Kakyoin and Polnareff started to climb the cliff with Joseph and Jotaro following. The small pillar helped them up and saw the car was still chasing them. The voice of the car stand's user called out, "Run and climb all you like! This is the end of the road for you Joestars! There is no escape, no survival, no making it to Egypt! Because this wheel of fortune will crush you into ground meat and splatter you all over these rocks and take the kid to DIO!" The car began to climb over the rocks and up the cliff face.

Jotaro seemed to have enough of the driver who was after them, "Stand back, everyone. Once it comes up here, the underside will be seen. That is when we will see its true power." "I get it. The underside is vulnerable.," Kakyoin said, "The perfect time to attack!" (Y/n) smelled something... Gasoline. The others were covered in gasoline! The stand user intended on lighting them on fire! The car crawled over the edge and shot more gasoline at the men, soaking then with the liquid. The car attacked soon after with a sparking electrical wire that lit Jotaro ablaze. The teen was in agony as he was consumed by the blaze. He fell to the ground as Joseph tried to go to his grandson to aid him, only stopped by Polnareff because they had Gasoline on their bodies as well.
(Y/n) and Anne hugged each other, horrified at what was happening as the stand user laughed. "Your journey ends now! DIO will be pleased that I killed you guys and brought him back a present!," the man howled. He spoke too soon as Jotaro emerged from the ground behind him. Jotaro had used Star platinum to burrow into the ground and used his school uniform jacket as a distraction. His dull olive green sleeveless shirt showed his muscular biceps. He summoned star platinum and pummeled the man into pulp.

The stand user was pathetic now that he was revealed. A buff pair of arms and a skinny body. Everyone got a good laugh out of how pathetic he was, (y/n) glared down at him. Her red eyes shone with a light of anger that made the man cower. He got on his knees to beg for his life, "Please spare me, I only did it for the money!" "Greed consumes and steals ones soul when he decides that money is greater than the life of his fellow man.," (y/n) said and gave the driver a kick to the face, "Wicked humans with blackened souls like yours disgust me."
He went flying back from that kick. A sound made the group look back, the car the man had been driven deflated back to what it was. A tiny car. Joseph laughed, "It looks like a sheep that had been shorn!" The two girls giggled as they got into the pathetic little car. Jotaro looked at Anne, "You are returning home to Hong Kong." "Huh?! Why?!," the brunette demanded. "Because you are not safe if you keep traveling with us.," (y/n) explained, "Like I said before, you need to go home. We're on a journey to save my stepsister, Joseph's daughter, Jotaro's mother's life." Anne looked disappointed but felt a tapping on her shoulder, it was the small pillar again. The child was holding a ring up to her, "I made this a long time ago. It was originally for me to wear on my horn. I want you to have it.," the little girl said, "As a memento." Anne took the ring and slipped it onto her middle finger, "It's pretty."

Anne was made to go home on an airplane set for Hong Kong. Everyone said their goodbyes. Jotaro seemed relieved that she would no longer be in danger. But there were more enemies to contend with. "Hey. You guys need to be careful." (y/n) said as Jotaro walked off to get his new jacket. Joseph nodded, "Hmm. We better be ready for another attack. And with your horns being broken, we will have to be on our own for a while." Kakyoin picked the small child up and held her in his arms comfortably, "There are about six cards left. Any one of them could be DIO's stand."
(Y/n) hugged the neck of her friend.
