Chapter Four: A monster rises
(Y/n) followed her brother out from their father's room to watch the confrontation. She smelled both her brothers' scents and a new one. The man from the alleyways. Jonathan told Dio how heartbroken he was about what happened. Dio begged to turn himself in as their little sister descended the stairs. She was just as heartbroken as Jonathan, if not more. She loved her brothers. A voice called from the darkness, telling Jonathan to not listen to the words of such a snake as Dio. The blond man from the alley made his appearance and lit a match to illuminate himself. "Who am I, you ask? Allow me to introduce myself properly.," the blond man said and placed his fist over his chest, "My name is Robert E. O. Speedwagon, the meddler. I was worried about little (y/n) and Jonathan, so I followed them back."
The plum haired girl silently walked to where her brothers were, but hid in the shadows, out of sight. She continued to listen, trying to understand what was happening and why Dio would do something such as this. "Since I like you, Jonathan, let me tel you something.," Speedwagon spoke, "I was raised in squalor, and have seen a lot of lowlifes. My nose can tell the good from the bad. And this guy stinks of vileness, I have never come before a man as wicked as he!"
The plum haired girl gasped, how could her brother be as evil as this man claimed him to be. Jonathan and Dio heard her. "(Y/n), get out of here. I told you to go to your room.," Jonathan said. The little girl shook her head, "I can't keep staying in the background. I want to help." "(Y/n), please, believe me.," Dio pleaded with her. Speedwagon stepped forward, "Don't." "I want to Dio. I really do, because I love you. But evidence is telling me otherwise.," the girl said looked down, "I'm sorry."
Speedwagon went to the curtains and pulled an elderly human man from there, "Does this man look familiar to you? He sold you the poison." "There is no point denying, Dio. He already testified.," Jonathan said. (Y/n) was saddened to heard all of this about her brother. "I've heard enough.," the sound of their father came. The little girl looked and saw him standing there with policemen and a doctor. "I put the same amount of love and hope into you as I did my own son.," the man said to his adopted son. The little plum haired girl saw he looked better but he was still weak, "Father. You should be resting." Jonathan went to help his father back to his room as the little girl stood close to Speedwagon. Jonathan walked back to his brother once his father was going back to his room. Dio held his hands out to his brother, "Jojo. I want you to be the one to cuff me."
"They won't catch him.," the asian man who sold Dio the poison spoke, "The three moles on his ear and that face. He was born with the devil's luck." (Y/n) held the hand of Speedwagon as the man told Jonathan to be careful. Even though she has only met him a little while ago, she felt that this Speedwagon was a trustworthy and safe person to be around. Jonathan walked closer and prepared to put the cuffs on Dio. Dio spoke, "Jojo, being human means having limits. But I've learned something. The more carefully you scheme, the more unexpected events come along. As long as you are human..." "what? What do you mean?!," Jonathan asked as (y/n) saw a glint in Dio's sleeve. The girl let go of Speedwagon's hand as Dio pulled a knife and her mask, "I'm throwing away my humanity, Jojo! I'm moving beyond humanity, to be like (y/n)!" Jonathan was shocked when he saw the mask, "Where did you get that?!" Dio lunged to stab Jonathan and use his blood to activate the mask, only he did not stab Jonathan. He stabbed George.
"Father!," Jonathan yelled as his father lay dying in his arms.
(Y/n)'s eyes were on her blond brother, Dio put the mask on and smeared the blood on it. Spines erupted from the sides of the mask and pierced his head, an unearthly red glow emanated from the mask. This triggered another memory for the girl. In her mind she saw a vision of a human being forced to wear a mask, surrounded by three large figures. She was brought back to the present by the sounds of gunshots and her brother, Dio, flying out the window from the impact of the bullets. Her red eyes widened as she realized what had happened in that split second. Dio was a monster now physically as he was mentally. Something else made her blood heat up. Like an old instinct had bubbled to the surface. She felt her lips turn up and reveal the sharp fangs she had hidden for years. The smell of blood made her look to the man who had adopted her. He was bleeding out in Jonathan's arms. Tears welled up in the little girl's eyes. Something inside her told her that it was her fault, that she was not meant to be around humans. Speedwagon and some others looked out of the window to the body of Dio.
The police comissioner explained what had happened a long time ago. The events that led up to Dio's adoption into the Joestar family. (Y/n) did not want to hear it, but forced herself to listen. This only cemented the fact that her adopted father was a good man. Her heart clenched in her chest as tears fell from her eyes. George passed his noble spirit onto his son, Jonathan.
Speedwagon made a remark that made the girl bristle, Dio's body was gone. She immediately sniffed the air to find the man reborn as a monster. Her brother aiming to be like her. Speedwagon ran from the window, the policeman beside him was too slow as his head was split open by a clawed hand. The little girl heard a soft 'Uerryy' from outside before Dio set down into the window. Perfectly fine. The little girl bore her fangs at him in anger, her horns shone in the flashes of light from the storm raging on outside. Dio walked in as the policemen panicked. Jonathan took a handgun from a policeman and pointed it at his brother turned monster's head. He was too shaky to shoot. The shot that did happen came from the steady handed speedwagon. The bullet that shot through Dio's head did nothing to harm this creature he had become.
Speedwagon and Jonathan were stunned by his resilience and durability. He kept walking forward as the humans tried to understand how he gained such power. Dio jumped in the air with a laugh, "Jojo. This power comes from the mask and your father's blood! I'm like our sister now!" (Y/n) watched as he grabbed a policeman and sucked him dry using his fingers.
"Dio! Stop this! This is unnatural!," the little girl shouted up at her brother who hovered above them. "Isn't this what you did to those animals? All the husks we found of your meals?," Dio asked and threw the corpse of the policemen at the men below him. The little girl jumped out of the way as the corpse killed some men and injured Speedwagon. "This is completely different!," she said up to her brother, "Because I was born like this, you had to sacrifice your own soul to become like this!"
Jonathan took a spear from a nearby set of armor to use as a weapon against his former brother as the bodies of the dead began to rise. One began to crawl towards Speedwagon. (Y/n) kicked the reanimated corpse away from Speedwagon with her inhuman strength, causing the head to shatter. The man she saved was shocked by everything that was happening. Jonathan used the spear he had to protect himself from the attacking Dio. Dio was unaffected by the spear piercing his hand, his bullet wounds had already healed. The newly turned monster broke the spear and landed on the ground, he did not see that Jonathan and Speedwagon had already escaped. The blond looked to his sister who was jumping down from the her room and holding a few of her precious objects, "(y/n)~, Where is Jojo?" Dio reached out to catch her, only to have his hand kicked away by the little girl as she jumped out of the broken window and run off. "Hmph. I can catch you later.," He said and sniffed the air.
(Y/n) had smelled the fire when Jonathan and Speedwagon had the idea of burning the house down, she had ran up to her room to save some of the most precious objects she had while she still had time. She heard an explosion and saw Speedwagon fly out of the house, knocked back by the blast. The little girl was swift and caught him before he hit the fountain. "Speedwagon, are you okay?," the girl asked and set the man down. "I could be worse.," The man replied and looked to the burning manor, "Jojo is still in there." The child's red eyes looked to the flames that were consuming her home like the fires of hell. Another memory came back to her.
A vision of flames that spread and licked over a temple like devils' tongues as she watched in horror as the building burned burned. She was being held by someone much larger than her. Some sort of warrior tasked to protect her.
She felt Speedwagon shaking her shoulder, bringing her back to the present. "It's happening again.," the child said, "Another home of mine is lost." Speedwagon rose to his feet and watched the flames, he realized what Jonathan was doing, "Jonathan no! You can't!" The girl behind him was still stuck in the past. The fire reminded her of a past trauma she had mostly forgotten. Her brain and memories were starting to wake up.
Jonathan's body flew out of he house. Speedwagon and the child went to check him and found he was alive to their relief. Speedwagon was crying in joy as the child was hugging her brother's arm, mourning the loss of their father and the brother who had let darkness consume him. The fire raged on as rain poured from the skies. It was a stormy and grey time for everyone. Jonathan was injured badly. The remaining Joestar siblings had no home. Their father and brother was dead. Speedwagon picked the young man up and staggered a little, "(y/n). We need to get your brother to the hospital." The little girl sniffled and wiped her eyes before helping Speedwagon carry Jonathan to the hospital so he could be nursed back to health. The little girl had nowhere to go. Her brother was unconscious and there was no home for her to go to.
Speedwagon took her small hand after Jonathan was put in hospital. He did not have much, but he let the child stay with him. Speedwagon himself was also treated for his wounds. The girl had no wounds to speak of, as expected from an inhuman creature like herself. "We can go visit your brother in a few days.," Speedwagon said as he took the child to his home, "He only has us left to be there for him." "Not true.," The girl said, "There is Erina, his sweetheart. I think either her family owns the hospital or she works there. She will take care of Jonathan while he is recovering."
Speedwagon was relieved to hear that his friend would be okay, but he had something else to ask, "(y/n) If you don't mind. Could you tell me... about That mask and what happened back there? You seemed to know something."
"I was put into an almost two thousand year sleep with that mask as my only link to my family. I don't remember much of my family, my brain is alseep. That mask, it gives great power but requires great sacrifice, it was never meant for human use.," the girl replied, "I know there is more to this. There are things I can't remember yet. But what I do know is that I am far beyond a human."
