Chapter Forty-four: Closer

(Y/n) stayed in the mansion as DIO asked her to, she did since it was more comfortable inside than the hot outdoors. She would mainly avoid the servants except for Vanilla Ice and D'arby. Her time was spent wandering the mansion or reading with her brother. It was a big mansion and there was plenty to explore. The plum haired pillar found a camera in one of the rooms and a pile of pictures on the desk. One picture was of Joseph and Jotaro napping on the plane they first left Japan in, (y/n) could see her hair in the bottom of the picture. She found other pictures of the group doing various things together. This must have been how DIO was checking up on them. She found another neat stack of pictures on the other side of the desk. All of her, anyone she was with or perched on was cut out of the picture.
There was a lot more pictures of her than the others. "How long was Dio watching us?," the little girl asked nobody in particular as she looked at the pictures. She felt a looming presence behind her with her horn. It was Vanilla Ice. "Lord DIO was watching you and the Joestars since he found out you were still alive.," the brunet man said, "Lord DIO looked very happy to see that you were okay. He told me once of how mad he was when you were severely injured one hundred years ago."

"How long have you been following me through the mansion?," the child asked. "Half an hour after giving Lord DIO the update on the assassins.," the man replied, "He has told me to tell you that you are permitted to go outside, but to stay inside the gates. Petshop will be out there." "Petshop? Is that the name of the falcon?," (y/n) inquired and got a nod from the loyal servant, "Thank you for informing me, Ice." She got a small bow from the man and he walked away. He was polite, but was fanatically loyal to DIO. (Y/n) had a feeling that she was only safe from him because of DIO's wanting her to be there.
The girl wondered if the others were okay. She could not help but to think of them, they had been together and relying on each other for so long that they became super close. But now she was on the other side of the lines. Not as an enemy or an ally, but as an observer. Her red eyes looked into the cool darkness of the mansion, very little light was within the walls. It allowed her red eyes to heal and use her sharp night vision.

Her arms carried her precious doll that now looked like the ghost lady who followed her. The lady was much clearer to her now whenever she saw her. Her coffee brown hair in a braid was draped over her shoulder. The smile that the woman had on was warm towards the child. (Y/n) once felt the woman hug her while she was reading in the dark while her brother was talking to Vanilla Ice. She noticed that she could see the other figures more clearly as well. The figures were familiar, but she could not see them clearly.
The little girl wandered with her doll in her arms, the Victorian dress that the doll used to wear was switched out for a more fitting chiton. She wandered around the mansion more, peeking into rooms and out of windows. She saw Petshop on the gate outside. He seemed to be on guard. The little girl wondered what her brother fed the bird. He was a very handsome falcon with pretty feathers. He seemed to be very proud bird. The little girl hopped down the stairs and to the door. The sun beat down on her when she opened the door to step outside. The blue eyes of the falcon snapped to the red eyed little girl when she stepped outside, he started to chatter at her and flapped his wings as if telling her to go back inside. "I'm not leaving, I came out to see you.," the little girl spoke a little sternly to the bird so that he would stop flapping his wings wildly. He stopped and bobbed his head at her.

The bird looked over the gate and to the street before flying over to the child, he alighted on a statue near her and made a deep gutteral noise towards her as if asking why she was outside. "Big brother said I could come out here.," the little girl explained to the bird, "So I wanted to see you. Your name is Petshop, right? It is very nice to meet a handsome falcon like you." The falcon puffed up his chest after being called handsome and made a higher pitched chitter in pride. "My name is (y/n).," the pillar introduced herself to Petshop and both bowed to each other. Her horn brushed against his helmet and she could feel a stand from him. The girl rose from the bow, "You're a stand user. That's really neat! What can your stand do?"
Petshop squawked and flapped his wings as a pterasaur like creature appeared behind him and ice covered the statue he was sitting on. "So you pull moisture from the air to flash freeze it and made deadly ice weaponry.," the pillar child said after seeing the demonstration, "That is cool, literally." Petshop tilted his head and chattered. "Me? I don't have a stand.," the little girl said and put her hands up, "My natural abilities are rapid regeneration, flesh melding, longevity and super strength. Some sub abilities are breathing through my skin and to feed on creatures through skin contact." Petshop bobbed his head as if to say he did not believe her. "Well I do not have a stand.," the plum haired girl said and hugged her doll. The pterasaur creature appeared in front of her and she fell back in surprise with a squeak. Petshop had his wings open and was bobbing his head back and forth while making a laughing chatter.

"Very funny, Petshop.," (y/n) said and picked herself up to dust herself off. The bird continued to do his little teasing display. Glowing wounds opened on the child's skin and she sighed, "Time's up. I have to go back inside petshop. Be safe, okay?" The bird flew back to her perch. The pillar felt like she was being watched and looked up to a window to see D'Arby looking down at her from one of the second story windows with a small smile, his shoulders were moving as if he was chuckling at the little girl being teased by the falcon gate guardian.
The child puffed her cheeks up in annoyance at this and walked inside. She shut the door and watched her wounds heal. The little girl walked around the lower floors of the mansion before climbing he stairs and looking around to see who was on the floor. The little child felt that she was being watched. She looked to the shadows and saw the woman again. The child ran up the stairs again and stopped. She could go back into DIO's room and risk the chance of getting her cheeks played with again. The girl rubbed her cheeks, the soft skin seemed to just attract fingers to poke them. She turned to go back down to the lower floors, she was stopped by her brother's voice. "(Y/n), is that you?," DIO's voice called to her from his room, "Come in, dear sister."

(Y/n) entered the room and closed the door. Candlelight faintly lit the room and illuminated the book that the vampire was reading. "D'Arby mentioned you were outside. Did you enjoy your time speaking to Petshop?," the blond man asked. She walked to the chair he was on, "I did. He is a beautiful falcon." She heard her brother make a small laugh as his mouth opened slightly and she could see the sharp canine within. Vampires were just humans mirroring the traits of pillar men, that is what she thought. The masks that made vampires imbued them with some essence that made pillar men how they were, but not enough to change them completely. They still tasted like humans, except a little sweeter by becoming undead somehow.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by a sharp nail poking her cheek and two fingers pinching it afterwards. "Are you admiring my face?," the vampire teased, "Is my face that much to your liking?" She realized she was staring while thinking, "Sorry." "What had your mind so entranced?," the vampire asked and the girl was on his lap in an instant, "If you don't mind sharing what is on your mind, that is." He never stopped playing with her cheeks, her soft and warm skin squished under his clawed fingers. (Y/n) made a soft whine as he continued to play with her face, similar to how he did when he was a child.

"Just remembering some things Father taught me.," the little girl said and felt that he finally let her cheeks got to play with her hair instead. The fluffy plum colored locks sprang back into the wavy place after being stretched out straight. "Hm.~," DIO hummed as he played with her hair, "I would like to hear what you know some time." "Perhaps, Dio.," the little girl said as she placed her hands on her horns to keep the vampire from playing with them next.
"Your friends stopped more of my assassins. They should be in Cairo by tomorrow.," the man spoke, "Closer and Closer they come to me and the finale of our destiny. How fate entwines the three of us so tightly. Your father made the masks that gave me my power and you who became a major part of our lives. Jonathan's descendants are who you lived with and watched grow up over the years." He pressed his finger on her nose. This was the same way he acted towards her when they were growing up together. A more relaxed persona he had adopted for speaking to her, he made slightly different personas for whoever he was speaking to. The girl felt her cheeks be poked again as she was drifting off in thought again, "Are you that bored that you are occupying your mind with past events instead of talking to me?"
(Y/n) put her tiny hands on his to stop him from pressing her cheeks again, "Dio, Stop teasing please." Her whines made the vampire chuckle, "You are so adorable."

The little girl knew that at least some of the human females he kept around were watching or at least heard them. She whined more as DIO kept playing with her cheeks. The vampire hummed a little before letting the child down and going back to reading, the girl made a run for the door and found herself back at her brother's legs. She heard him laugh softly at her as she kept running and running to the door. The child sensed stand energy from him and pouted while sitting next to his feet, "No fair, Dio."
She heard him laugh a little, "Oh, but it is so fun to tease you. You make the cutest pouting faces." (Y/n) looked up at her vampire brother with the puffed up cheeks which he pressed his finger into. She was on his lap the next moment and his lips were pressed against her head, something he had only done twice before when he was human one hundred years ago.
He set her down, "Go on then. I won't stop you this time. Since I'm in a good mood today, I'll give you permission to wander Cairo and get whatever you want, just come back before the sun sets." The tiny pillar ran out of his room and down the stairs. She left the building and was greeted to a squawking Petshop who she informed of her plans. The bird bobbed his head and let her leave the gates, she ran down the streets of fhe residential area to find the shopping district to look around in the stores.

There was so much to look at. Knick knacks, toys, clothes, accessories, snacks, drinks. The little girl did not know what to do. She looked at the money that her brother gave her to buy something with. She did not know what she wanted. Should she get something for him instead? Or maybe something for someone else? Like mama Suzie or Caesar? The little girl wandered about and was looking into different stores. Perhaps she could buy some materials to make something with? She wandered about and decided that she would not buy anything. She had no need to purchase anything at that time.
She did not need food thanks to that blood offering she was given, she had a safe place to stay with her brother, her doll was her toy. She was happy and healthy. The girl turned and walked away. She thought she heard her name being called in the crowd but, that could have been her imagination. The sun was getting lower in the sky as she walked back after looking at all the shops. The girl heard the screech of a falcon and looked above to see Petshop flying overhead. The girl followed the bird back and saw a familiar cowboy walk up. A snarl curled over her lips and the man stopped walking. The girl walked through the gate as the falcon set down to watch.

Hol Horse followed after waiting a bit, only to get tripped once he was inside the mansion. The red eyes of the little girl stared down at his terrified face before she walked off. He waited again to put distance between them. The house growing darker and darker.
The little girl had to find Vanilla Ice so that she would not kill the cowboy.

DIO was right. The Joestars were closer.
