Chapter Eleven: A man in a pillar
After learning of the man in the pillar, of his destiny, Joseph decided to leave for Mexico. (Y/n) followed, she could not be talked down. Something was pulling her to Mexico, to the pillar. She needed to know what was going on. She was awakened by blood. This man in the pillar was going to be awakened by blood. She clung to Joseph as they rode through the desert. "Say, (y/n).," Joseph spoke, "You have been very quiet. What is wrong?" "Just thinking.," the girl answered, "I don't remember much I my past in the ancient times. I can see glimpses, shadows, but that is it. I can't remember who the Warriors who protected me from the hamon tribes were." Joseph felt her arms hug his neck, "I can't even remember the faces of my parents."
"It's okay if you don't remember everything. You can regain your memories at your own pace, or not if you don't wish to. There may be some things that you don't want to remember.," Joseph said as he continued driving his motorcycle, "I'm curious about this Pillar man, though. From what Straizo said, he is a lot like you." The girl did not respond, she hugged Joseph to keep on him as he drove through the blistering heat of the desert.
The girl looked around and felt Joseph stop suddenly. "Something is not right.," the British teen said, "I've felt someone's eyes on us since this morning. Have you noticed anything?" "Yes, I've been tracking a life sign who has been following us.," the little girl spoke. The brit placed the child on the motorcycle and investigated a cloth on the ground, only to get stabbed. "You two are rather sharp.," the man who suddenly popped out said, "You were able to sense my presence, even when bats can't do the same." "I felt your life energy.," the girl said, "Humans have energy distinct from other creatures. You stuck out like a sore thumb." Joseph was irritated at the man who had suddenly stabbed him and now rested on a cactus, "And why the hell are you following us?!" "I'm not following you! I'm here to capture you and the girl! We want the girl for her power and you to be interrogated about Straizo!," the man announced, "I'm will catch you, Joseph Joestar!" The little girl only booed him from her place on the Motorcycle, the German did not seem to be happy about the commentary from the peanut gallery. Joseph was irritated about hearing Straizo's name.
"The jerk is German. Get him Jojo!," the little girl yelled, "Or I'll have to! I'm hungry still..." "What do you have to do with Straizo and Speedwagon?!," Joseph demanded, "Tell me or I'll beat it out of you!"
"You shall face I, Donovan of the SS, with your bare hands?," the German asked, "I'm insulted." "Your face is the insult to mother earth.," (y/n) said and got an annoyed look from the German, "I'm not supposed to eat humans, but I might make an exception about you. You won't shut the hell up." Joseph motioned her to be quiet. "Make me Jojo! I'm just as mad as you about Speedwagon, he was my best friend besides my brothers!," the girl said and stood up, "I'll take care of this myself if I have to!" The air around her was heavy again. Joseph threw the sheet Donovan was using to cover himself right back at the German man. Donovan stabbed Joseph again and knocked the British young man to the ground. (Y/n) was about to assist when Joseph told her to stay back, "It's fine! I wanted to be here! Donovan, how about you look at this situation a little more closely?"
A cactus was bubbling up beside Joseph, Donovan fell for it and got a face full of prickles. The little girl started to laugh and fell off of the bike. The British young man got up and dusted himself off before stepping on Donovan's face, "The cactus was my goal all along. They are made mostly of water, and conduct Hamon fabulously. Now it's time to talk, Donovan. (Y/n), come here." The little girl shook the dust off of her and bounded over, teeth showing as she grinned. She kicked the prickles into the German man's skin to make him talk. She even took a little blood from the man to have something to feed her. Joseph noticed this while he was interrogating the man and scolded the child. She stuck her tongue at him and kicked the German again.
They learned that Speedwagon was still alive, both were relieved at this news. They even learned the location of the base he was being kept at and that the sleeping 'pillar man' was at the same base. The girl jumped onto Joseph's back after he got back on the motorcycle. She saw that Joseph was crying tears of joy. "Granny Erina would love to know this!," the young British brunet man said and drove off into the desert. Soon the two made it to the facility. It was heavily guarded at the entrance gates. Joseph was wondering how he could get in as (y/n) noticed a wall near the gate that was the right size for her to jump over. The little girl pointed at the wall for Joseph to see, "Meet you inside. I'll go on ahead." Her white dress and robe flew behind her as she ran and jumped across the desert, her small legs propelled her over the wall of the facility. She landed lightly and looked around. It did not seem like any guards noticed, if they did they were not doing anything about it. She sniffed the air to find Speedwagon's scent. The girl found it wafting from a door that led underground. She followed the door and the hallways to an underground research chamber. In the chamber was a large pillar. A hole in the side of it held the shape of a man. The Germans inside were panicking. The pillar man that was supposed to be in the chamber was gone.
(Y/n) sniffed the air. She smelled a scent that was familiar, ancient. She found Speedwagon and quietly walked over to him, her head still had the cloak's hood covering it. The cloak covered her small body. The girl heard noises from the air vents. The pillar man was in the air vents. The Germans were on high alert. One of the scientist Germans happened to see the girl and pointed her out to the commander. "If this child is here, Joseph is not far behind.," the blond German said. "He's coming. Get away from the air vents.," (y/n) spoke. One man did not listen and he expanded rapidly as the pillar man entered and hid in his body. The plum haired girl was disgusted by the sight of the bloated German soldier. The commander, Major Stronheim, ordered his men to shoot the pillar and the man he was hiding in. The girl knew this would not kill him, she somehow knew what this pillar man was and what he could do.
The bloated body fell to the ground but got up again, this scared the Germans. Stronheim was panicked. Stronheim's panic went away when he saw the possessed body point like he was mimicking holding a pistol. Stronheim rationalized it as the pillar man mimicking them and the speech earlier as parroting words he heard. (Y/n) knew different, she knew that this man who had just awoken from two thousand years of sleeping was learning, all of his parroting of words and mimicking of action was him learning about this world he awoken to. The girl hid from the view of this man. Something was terrifying yet calming about him, she had to rationalize what this was before she acted.
The jaw of the possessed man fell off and a voice came from the body, "You... Who among you disturbed my slumber?" This mere sentence told Stronheim what the girl had already knew. This pillar, Santana, was capable of thought and was learning. Santana shot a bullet back to the soldiers from his finger. The girl looked behind her to a man walking up behind her and Speedwagon, the scent was Joseph's. He placed a finger over his lips to tell the girl to stay quiet before turning to Speedwagon, "Hey, old man! Hide over here! He's still got more bullets to fire!" Speedwagon acted like the proud British man he was, "No! I don't want help from a German soldier!" (Y/n) grinned and snickered before she peeked out to look at the scene before her. Joseph stepped in front of the injured and straight jacket wearing speedwagon in order to defend him.
The body of the possessed German soldier tore open and a muscular man burst from the body. The man had tanned skin, his long wavy hair was a vermilion color with black nubby horns peeking out. His eyes were red with a teal marking under his left eye. He looked... familiar... The familiarity of that face made the girl want to get closer, to try and remember who exactly this was.
Joseph tore hair from the head of the blond German officer and used the hamon and hair to make a shield as the pillar man shot the bullets back at the soldiers, killing them and the scientists that were there. Only the ones behind the hamon shield survived. Joseph looked to the German soldier behind him, "You really need to start moisturizing.," The brunet said, "If you don't be careful, you'll go bald, Mr. German army man." Speedwagon looked at the two, "When did you two get here." "We've been here for a bit.," the girl said with a smile. (Y/n) looked as Santana picked up a piece of hair and looked at it. His voice was soft and deep, "Ha...ir." The girl looked at the man who was examining everything around him like a curious child. She could sense that he was not completely full grown yet, perhaps in his late teens in human terms? The girl stepped out towards him as Joseph was taking off the jacket.
"So, you're Jojo? Listen up, Jojo.," Stronheim said, "Santana uses the masks to make people into vampires to feed on them. He's a threat, he must be destroyed!" Joseph disregarded the Major and walked forward towards the pillar man. He tapped the pillar on the nose, "Tag! You're it!" The brunet brit grinned at the pillar man as the little girl walked up to the two quietly.
She felt herself being drawn towards this man, he made her feel safe. Like she was back home with her warriors... unless... this was one of her warriors. She could not be very sure yet, so she just kept approaching him instead of running away. Joseph was trying to get Santana to talk to him by trying to engage positive conversation. Santana was not amused by this human before him. The pillar saw movement beside him and looked down to see a small figure in a hood wandering next to his feet. "Get away from there!," Speedwagon shouted to the little girl then to the young man, "Jojo, what are you doing?!" "I have a theory he is not a bad guy, he might actually be like our little friend here.," Joseph replied and motioned to the child staring up at the Pillar, "I think it is wrong to assume someone is evil."
(Y/n) saw that she had Santana's attention, she jumped back from him as he reached towards her. He had tried to pick her up. His face was inquisitive as he looked at her, he seemed to recognize her and was trying to figure out who she was as she was doing the same of him. The humans with them saw this interaction. Joseph had an idea, "Take of your hood! Show him your horns!" The child reached up and pulled her hood off of her head and let her hair fall, revealing her horns to a fellow ancient and horned being. They waited for the result.
"(Y..../n)... You have... grown..," the man spoke. This confirmed the child's suspicions, she did know him. "Lady... (y/n).," Santana said. The little girl nodded, "Hello again. It has been almost three thousand years since I have seen you last." Joseph stepped between them, "Since you two know each other, we can be friends, right?" The vermilion haired man walked past Joseph, disregarding him completely to walk closer to the child. This irritated Joseph and the brunet tried to trip the ancient man. The man was unaffected by this and kept walking to the one he knew. The little girl took another step back as he got closer to her. He picked up the gun that was next to her, "This is new to me. What is this?" (Y/n) watched him take it apart quickly, "It is a weapon known as a gun." After taking the gun apart, He covered his eyes with his arms from the bright lamps. "So bright. This light is also new to me.," Santana spoke softly. "Don't stare into them for too long, your eyes might get damaged.," (y/n) told the man and he turned back to the child. He knelt to her height and reached out again, this time successfully touching her face as the little girl did not pull away. "You were smaller when I saw you last.," Santana said, "You are still so small compared to me."
"I am younger than you, so it is natural.," the girl said as she looked behind the pillar to Joseph. The brunet was coming up behind him and tapped the back of Santana's head with a helmet.
Santana pulled the girl close as he ribs shot out to attack Joseph. Joseph's hamon made him repel from the ribs of the attacking pillar. (Y/n) pushed herself out of the chest of the man holding her and looked over his shoulder to look at Joseph, "Jojo." "Irritating primative.," Santana said and looked back, "Hm? He is not absorbed? And there were sparks." (Y/n) climbed onto Santana's shoulder as he observed Joseph, "What is this human? He is fine. I've never seen such a human before." (Y/n) felt his questions about Joseph were directed to her, "He controls an energy called hamon. It is as dangerous for you as the sun." The pillar walked to Speedwagon and stuck his fingers into Speedwagon's head to test if all humans were like Joseph. Speedwagon was in great pain. This made Joseph mad. It was also upsetting for (y/n) as she kicked at Santana's arm to make him stop, "Leave him alone, Santana!"
The pillar man's fingers were taken out of Speedwagon's head by the kick. Joseph was riled up and ready to fight Santana now that Speedwagon had been hurt by the pillar. "Get off of him, (y/n)! I'm going to flood him with hamon.," the Joestar yelled and attacked. (Y/n) jumped off of the man as asked and landed away from them as they fought. She remembered who he was. He was her guard when she was a baby. He was also around six thousand more years older than her.
It was incredible to see Santana fight again. He used his skin to repel hamon like a raincoat then opened his stomach to try and eat Joseph's hand. Joseph pretended to lose his hand to play with Santana for a bit. "You're gonna lost that and I'm gonna laugh!," the girl yelled at the hamon user and kicked him in the head lightly after jumping to the two. Joseph looked down at her quickly and nudged the girl away, "Check on Speedwagon, I will figure this out." The girl looked back at her former guard and ran to Speedwagon and used her hand to cut the straps that were binding the jacket that held the man. She made sure he was okay as she heard Santana's body hit the ground behind her. Her guard was split in half when she looked behind her to see him.
"San..tana.."
