Chapter 3
Chapter 3~ Inseparable
After our short conversation, we decided to continue later that night. We both left the tent; I clung to Smile's arm as we walked to the dining tent. I put on my usual happy act, urging Smile to play along.
"Aww! Look at ye' young love birds!" Joker smiled at us from the table he sat at.
"Oh leave them be, Joker!" Beast gave me a kind motherly look before taking the seat at his side.
I laughed at the small blush that colored Smile's cheeks, "Oh come on Joker! We just met today!" I winked at Smile causing him to blush even more.
I smirked while dragging him to a small table near the first stringers so he could listen to their conversation. Once he saw what I was doing he followed me with a grateful look in his eyes. When we sat down I handed him a plate full of sweets and some tea. He looked at me strangely before looking back at the sweets with longing.
"It's alright, they're not poisonous," I giggled, "I get special treatment because I won't eat anything but sweets." I then began nibbling on a fruit tart.
Ciel took my eating as a cue to eat and so he began chewing on the chocolate lava cake on his plate. Every now and then I saw him look up but his eyes would quickly dart back to his food when he saw I was looking. I smirked at this and then saw Black walk toward us.
"Hello Miss Siren and Smile, how are you both fairing?" I rolled my eyes at his comment, once a butler always a butler I suppose.
"We are fine thank you Black," I replied while looking at Smile, he nodded in response and continued to eat. Black stood by us until i offered him a seat beside Smile, he tried to decline but when i insisted he decided not to argue. I smirked at this before finishing my food.
"Do you usually keep a different schedule than the others Siren?" Smile asked.
"Yes, most First Stringers don't have to cook or care for the animals like the rookies or stage hands do. We tend to have more lenient time slots than the others because we already have perfected acts. That means we sleep in more, we get food first, and necessarily have more power. Now I'm not saying you can go ordering people around, but unless it is a fellow First Stringer then you don't have to answer them or follow their orders." I took a delicate sip of my tea. He nodded in understanding.
"Do you always sit by yourself Miss Siren?" Black asked while looking at me curiously.
I gave him a sad smile before replying, "Yes I do, we may be a bunch of circus freaks like many assume but I am more twisted and tainted than the rest."
"I don't quite follow, I'm afraid," Black replied. Smile was listening intently.
"I'm afraid I cannot speak of my darker days here out in the open, many would give me that disgusting look of pity and I do not wish for them to think of me as any different that the person I am now. I will speak to you both about it later if you are still curious," I explained seriously. They nodded in response. "Well I suppose we should go practice a bit for tonight's show, come on Smile!" I got up and grabbed his arm while rushing out of the dining tent.
When we finally got to the practice tent I released Smile. We both stood by my record player surrounded by practicing performers. I placed a different record onto the player before stepping away; Smile stood a few feet away.
(Heavy in Your Arms by Florence and the Machine)
I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown.
//First I looked up and then Smile, I lifted my arms and he copied. I leapt over to Smile and spun around him//
I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown
//He clasped my arm and moved one hand to my waist before lifting me up then dropping me where I landed on his feet//
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
//He lifted both my arms and we made walking motions while on his feet until I made it look like I fell//
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
//I swung my legs in front of me until I was in a crouching position, Smile walked up from behind and grasped my arms before pulling me up. I did the splits in mid air//
And is it worth the wait
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand
Protecting both your heart and mine?
// Before he dropped me I spun so that I was facing him//
Who is the betrayer?
Who's the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn't make a sound
//I held anguish in my voice while I sung, looking straight into his eyes as we danced in a waltz like movement//
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
//He lifted me slowly//
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
//I gave him a look that said to let go, when he did I dropped but he caught me in a cradle hold//
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
So heavy in your arms
//Together Smile and I made fluid movements with our arms while we twirled//
This will be my last confession
I love you never felt like any blessing
(Ohhhh)
Whispering like it's a secret
Only to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart
//Smile lifts me above him and I stay there for a moment until throws me into the air, I spin until he catches me and dips me while I sing//
Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
//Once he let me up again I was dipped until I bent backwards and flipped, landing in an elegant ballet pose//
I was a heavy heart to carry
my beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown
//I spun in a circle once more making a crown gesture with my hands before leaping into the air//
I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he had me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground
//I landed in the splits before moving my legs into a crouching position, Smile picked me up while spinning me until the end of the song where he slowly let me down//
I'm so heavy, heavy in your arms.
Heavy, i'm so heavy in your arms.
When we finished we both heard clapping. Apparently everyone who was in or near the tent decided to watch us perform. I smiled and bowed along with Smile before we headed to our tent.
"We have a good hour or two before we need to prepare for the show, so if you want to call you little butler I can then start telling you of my elusive past..." I spoke coldly.
"Of course..." Smile sounded confused by my cold attitude. Once he comes back with that butler it will be time to tell my tale.
...a tragic tale indeed...
