Chapter 27
With the last mission being a disaster, there were no missions for Elite Team A today. Rex was recovering, his stomach wound healing at a painfully slow rate because he didn't want to take the medication or listen to the advice of the medical team. Instead Rex sat at home and drank. Whisky of course. He knew a lot about whisky and had spent a long time trialling different ones in the hope of finding the one that he liked best. He'd finally found it in an aged Japanese whisky, smoky and strong.
Big Boss was also recovering, he was getting better every day whilst attending some physiotherapy to ensure that the bullet had not damaged any ligaments or muscles. So far, it was going well and the team believed he would be able to go back to his duties within a few weeks. Big Boss already knew he wouldn't wait that long, even if he was sitting at a desk directing the team he would do it. He couldn't sit at home and watch another shitty tv series. His body ached for adventure.
Millie had been drafted back to Procurement, assisting Ade to finalise the Lidoplex deal, one that was due to make a lot of difference to the Elite Teams and their equipment. Millie had been clever when she spoke to them initially, selling it as a partnership deal. If they supplied us with discounted products, they would make sure the partnership was known to other teams and external suppliers they worked with. Ade had been blown away with how quickly Lidoplex wanted to seal the deal, but all had been delayed due to Millie's assistance with the Elite Team.
Unfortunately for Millie, the day flew by and before she knew it, it was 5pm and she was ready to clock off. She didn't want to. She knew what was coming as soon as she stepped out of the room. Scouring the office, her eyes wandered the ceilings to see where the CCTV was. No doubt Flick was watching her, making sure she didn't try to make a quick escape.
Her phone vibrated in her bag once, twice, three times in a row. She knew who it was going to be before she even reached into her bag.
Eli: it's time
Eli: I've been waiting for this to happen for a long time
Eli: I'm so glad we get to work together again
Millie felt sick, her stomach twisting in fear as it hit her just how much trouble she was in. She bit her lips together as she stood up quickly and ran to the female bathroom, her hands gripping the sides of the sink until her knuckles turned white. She began to retch, tears pricking the corner of her eyes as she hyperventilated. Her mind whirred with sickening thoughts of what she did the last time she worked for Eli, the smug smile he would give her as he knew he'd succeeded in what he needed. Eli was clever enough to have researched Millie before she had even began. She was smart, she was scarily good with computers, she had also got herself in trouble before. He knew he could mould her into what he wanted and what he needed. And what was the super sized cherry on top of this sickly sweet cake? He fancied her. He made it so blatantly and creepily obvious. He would stand behind her and put his hands on her shoulders, whisper in her ear with his mouth mere millimetres away from her skin. He would touch her thigh if they sat beside each other. He would be eyeing her up all day every day. She wasn't afraid to say no, and tell him to leave her alone, but he just smiled and reminded her that for this period of time he owned her.
For the entirety of the first spate under Eli, Millie beat herself up for even taking on this contract and for helping the woman at work. Of course the person who had given her Eli's details had been a male who had just been able to pay him with money. Once again, Eli had done his research on the person before accepting the mission. The guy was useless to him, money would be the only decent thing. Millie had done it for someone else, and was left to pay the price. For three months he owned her and he loved every second. He got her to do his dirty work, not only hacking work but physical work too, and she had been counting down every minute until she was free. This spate was going to be four times longer than that. She was owned by this guy for an entire year of her life.
Millie made a beeline for the closest toilet, skidding to her knees as she threw up what little she had eaten today. The nerves were gnawing away at her and she had barely consumed anything since she woke up this morning. How was she going to handle him for four times longer? How was she going to live with herself? She needed counselling after the last time, and now she knew he would make her do even more and even worse than before.
Millie needed to calm down, her body shaking uncontrollably as she threw up, then hyperventilated, then retched. Her mind was a blur of a mess of a compilation of memories of Eli. She needed to think of something else. Her mind could only think of one person that would help.
Millie took a deep breath as she forced her mind to the day of the trial. It was an awful day, full of nerves and panic but in that moment, those doors flew open and two people came to her rescue. Rex and Big Boss. Her mind filled with the radio encounters with Rex, the replay of meeting him in the courtroom, how he had rescued her from that man down the alleyway and he'd made sure to walk her home. Suddenly she found herself calm, almost peaceful, with Rex circling her mind. She knew he had wanted to learn more about Eli, but at the time she was too scared to tell him. However now, as the time had finally arrived to become Eli's minion again, Millie realised she needed Rex's help more than ever.
Somehow, some way, she needed to begin feeding Rex information about Eli and his plans without Eli catching on.
Somehow she had to outsmart the smartest person she knew.
Somehow, she needed to save herself.
