~Chapter Two~
I sit up, rubbing my head in pain. Blood everywhere. Memories flooded into my mind. Wait. Where's Drake and Breeze?
Starting to stand up, I fall back down, a sharp pain spreading up my ankle.
"Just my luck it's broken..." I mutter, drawing my sword and using it to help me stand. Then I remember what had happened.
The Pine Marten hybrid talked about some of the strange things that have been happening near her, death, stuff appearing out of nowhere.
"All I know is that some kind of magic or entity is behind this. That's for sur-" she turns around and draws her bow, shooting at something. Blood stained her sleeve as I realized it was an arrow that had pierced her arm. I draw my sword as Drake drew his. The ground shook as an arrow flew at Drake and hit his chest.
"Agh!" He yells, another arrow flying at Breeze and hitting her neck.
Breeze wildly shoots arrows at the thing attacking us when a rock hits my ankle really hard, hearing a sickly crack. I fall to the ground, my vision becoming blurry and a little red at the edges. I watch as another arrow pierces Drake's chest and he falls to the ground. Breeze keeps shooting arrows. Her amulet she wore around her neck starts glowing a forest green and surrounds her with a green aura as she continues shooting arrows, getting faster and faster.
Breeze falls, three arrows in the chest and two to her neck. Blood stained her clothing. I couldn't move. I slipped in and out of consciousness. Breeze gasps for breath. Her bow was laying beside her. She no longer had a green aura surrounding her. Her amulet lay on the ground a few feet away from her, it's chain broken. She looks at me, her ears twitching faintly. Drake was motionless, blood seeping slowly through his sky blue shirt. His eyes were closed but he was breathing.
The pine marten hybrid's face gets paler and paler, her breath getting shaky and faint. She closes her eyes, her body suddenly relaxing. She moves no more. And I lose consciousness.
Breeze Wildheart lay on the ground, dry blood staining her jeans and sweatshirt. Her bow lay next to her arm, her amulet sprawled on the ground a few feet away. The arrows still stuck out of her neck and chest. Her eyes were closed and her skin was a pale gray. Her satchel wasn't covered in blood or dirt. It seemed perfectly fine. I kneel down, one tear slipping down my face. Such a young person killed... Slowly, I pull the arrows out of her neck and chest, being very gentle because I felt bad about her. And I felt like I'd hurt her if I pulled them out too quickly.
~Mia's POV~
I sit in a tree within its' branches, holding a strip of cloth to my calf, trying to stop the bleeding. I bit back the pain and cursed myself for not having any health potions with me. Those mercenaries managed to get my calf and forearm but didn't kill me. My arm was already bandaged and my calf was still throbbing with pain and was still bleeding. I change the cloth for the third time and then I decide to tie the cloth around the wound firmly and then I start climbing down the tree and walking.
I look up at the early morning sky, the clouds hiding the sun from view. I pull my hood up and over my head, holding my bow in my hand securely because I didn't want to get attacked like I just was. My stomach grumbled. No food for me... Until I find a place that has food at least...
A branch snaps, causing me to turn. Nothing. You're being paranoid Mia, I scold myself. I continue walking. Not sure if I was being paranoid or if I'd actually heard a branch snap. I think about most of my past and my family. More particularly my sister. I shake my head trying to get the memory out of my head.
I peek over the edge of the ship, watching the water eagerly. I flinch as I feel a hand being set down on my shoulder. Turning, I look up at my older sister, Mairyn, and smile. She ruffles my hair.
"Enjoying the view?" She smiles.
"Yes," I reply. I look at the sun setting on the horizon, it casting a golden color across the waves.
*Later that night...*
I wake up to the sounds of yelling and crackling fire. I throw the blankets off myself and run onto the deck. Fire. Fire licking at the sails and polished wood. Yelling everywhere. Smoke choked my throat. I feel hands grab me and shove me out of the way as the mast fell.
"Mia! Are you alright?" Mairyn yells, her eyes blazing with worry. I nod. "Listen! Get out of here with the others! Understand?"
"But...," I nod, warm tears rolling down from my face.
"Go!" She yells as a white eyed man appears from the flames. And I jump off the side.
The water is icy and soothing to the burns of my skin. I look at the burning ship, watching in horror as the Star a Emerald sinks, my sister going down with it. I continue swimming, sadness and grief washing over me like the ocean waves. I pull myself onto the beach, coughing sea water from my throat and shivering from the cold. That would be the last time I ever saw my sister...
I blink the tears away. It happened years ago. Don't let it stand in your way Mia. It's past. I trudge on, feeling cold rain droplets land on my hands and my nose.
~Grayson's POV~
I pick up Breeze's satchel, not really feeling the need to bury it with her. It may have valuable stuff in it that we could sell. Or food. I'm low and Drake doesn't have any when I checked his bag. I also don't have any digging tools with me. Just great.
"I think I hear something!" I hear a deep voice shout. Footsteps become louder and sound close. Very close. No time to bury Breeze. No time to do anything. I hastily shove Breeze's satchel into my bag, pull my hood over my face and drag Breeze into a bush, making sure she's well hidden before running over to Drake.
I pick him up, his weight almost unbearable, but I manage. I start jogging, trying my best not to step on any branches. The voices get quieter and I slow down to a steady walk. I gasp for breath. Setting Drake down against a tree, I lean against it, rummaging through my bag and pulling a bottle from my bag. No water. Crap. I pull out Breeze's satchel, hoping there was water.
I triumphantly pull out a water bottle along with a thing of fruit snacks, almost yelling in delight. I resisted the urge though. I put away the satchel and drink the water like my life depended on it. I examine the fruit snacks, starting to eat them as my stomach grumbled.
I look at Drake, who was breathing very slowly but still alive. I sigh in relief but I let it out too soon. A branch snaps. I turn and face the person who snapped the branch. Her hand shakes as she holds the gun up. Chocolate brown hair pulled into a ponytail tangled with things of the forest, blue eyes looking at me hopefully and somewhat courageous. Her gray cotton jacket had a dark stain in the side and it was almost in shreds, as well as filthy and covered in dirt and leaves and all that stuff.
Her jeans too were filthy like she had been running from something that attacked her. I knew this girl. Second in command when I was commander of the armies in the Empire. Libby.
"Help... Me...," she falls to the ground, eyes rolling to the back of her head as she loses consciousness.
~3rd Person POV~
The cloaked figure watches the blonde male look around, trying to find a place to seek shelter. Sighing, he picks up the hybrid and the brown haired commander, straining under the weight he starts walking towards a mountain, which was a quarter mile away. Leaping into another tree, the cloaked figure follows the blonde silently.
After a lot of walking, the blonde finally notices a tunnel in the mountain. A cave. He walks into it, setting the two people down and sets torches down, lighting up a small portion of the deep rocky system. Pulling a sleeping bag from his bag, he set his hybrid friend down on it, before taking off his long coat and any other clothing articles he could find info a somewhat mattress for the brown haired female.
Grayson sets down some small logs, pulling out a flint and a thin piece of steel and striking them together. A spark catches the small logs, smoke forming as a fire formed. He sits in near the fire, almost right next to it. The flames dance in his eyes as he watches it, not noticing the cloaked figure watching him from the mouth of the cave. The figure turns, walking away and mutters something under their breath. Grayson didn't notice that the brown haired female's wounds no longer were there, but he did notice his hybrid friend's deep voice grumble.
"Water..." Was all Drake grumbled, still unconscious.
A/N- Whelp. New chapter. Some characters have been added. Sorry about the wait. I've been busy and have had frequent writer's block. But get ready for some cool stuff ;)
