chapter 4

Lee Yuki's POV

"There you are,"

I looked up searching for the source of that familiar voice just to spot the same person I tried my best to avoid, Kai Suzuki.

He stepped closer, his hair brushing against his eyebrows, both his hair and eyes were the color of roasted beans. A tailored black suit with a charming red tie. His chiseled jaw lifted into a soft smile, "How long has it been? 5 years? How are you, Yuki?"

I clenched my fist, my bright blue piercing eyes glaring at his, in disbelief. I didn't want to get hurt again but I also didn't want to give up on him either. Did he change? Would I get hurt once more if I let him in? I thought as I fidgeted my fingers trying to think of what to say.

I looked back up at the tall figure waiting for me to speak, "Who are you?" I asked,

Kai knitted his eyebrows, "What? I'm Kai Suzuki, wait you don't remember me?"

"No, I do not."

"Woah, This is embarrassing... we spent a lot of time together when we were kids, you don't remember that either??"

"No, sorry. Would you move out the way? I'm in a hurry." I walked past Kai, trying my best to hold in the hot tears that formed in my eyes.

...

"Oh my god! My poor hair... My eyes are glowing! THEY'RE GLOWING MY DUDE!" Jennie frowned,

I brushed my long bright blue hair as I stared at myself in the mirror, thinking about what happened with Kai. I knew that coming back meant having to face him, I tried not to think about it at all which led to me almost breaking down into tears in front of him.

"So you met him there, right?" Jennie suddenly asked while scrolling through her phone, making me flinch slightly.

"W-what? How did you know that?"

Jennie looked at me and laughed, "Oh you were trying not to show it, weren't you? Honey, you can't hide anything from me. So? Do you still get those annoying butterflies in your stomach when you speak to him?"

"I don't. I would never like anyone that's as naive as him."

Jennie placed her phone on the table as she took the brush from my hand and started brushing my hair,  "What did he say when you talked though? Don't you think that it would be better if you confronted him about it? You know, to just get that weight lifted."

I lowered my head, "He'll probably ask why I'm so hung up on the past. Besides, I can't ask him about it since I said that I don't remember anything that happened 5 years ago."

"Oh god, for real? so are you planning on giving him another chance or distancing yourself from him?"

"I don't know, maybe he changed and If he did, I might give him another chance? I don't really wanna give up on him.." I said biting the inside of my lower lip,

Jennie tied my hair into a bun and sighed, "it's time, stop worrying about what the future holds. It's going to be okay."

Jennie gave me a back hug before leaving the room to give me some time alone before I transformed. I didn't like having anyone near me when I transformed, it reminded me of the past and that I was different, I was and still is, a freak.

...

"Why do we always have to ride your brother's car?!" Jennie whispered as she plugged her nose in disgust,

Cigarette smoke filled the air with a nauseating burnt rubber smell. my brother, Haru,  was known to be a troublemaker. I hated his friends and how he wastes his time doing god knows what, all I know is that whatever he does with them, is bad. He even got arrested once for drinking at a children's park with his friends.

"I heard you. It doesn't smell that bad anyways." He laughed,

I kicked his chair from the back making him flinch, "Haru! How can you drive after smoking?!"

"It wasn't me! My friend was here."

The car finally stopped as the three of us hopped out and began walking towards the airport. We all sat at the metal waiting seats near the baggage carousel. Jennie fished for her phone in her Nike black bag after hearing a ringing sound, she softly smiled as she stared at her phone. I tried to peek but she quickly locked it and put it back. She has been acting weird lately, making secret calls while we're hanging out thinking I didn't notice.

"What's wrong, Jennie?" I raised an eyebrow,

Jennie looked at me as she sucked on her cheeks then looked down at her lap, "I-its nothing.."

"Are you sure-"

"She's here! Grandma!" Haru ran towards his grandma like a 5-year-old,

She looked so young for her age, her long raven hair pulled into a ponytail, she was wearing a dark grey overcoat and pulled her white dotted suitcase behind her.

Haru took his grandmother's suitcase and dragged it for her back to the car. "Yuki, Jennie! I missed you girls so much~" She gushed as she pulled us into a tight hug.

"Wait... Please tell me you two are wearing lenses and purposely dyed your hair?!"  She exclaimed, her eyes widened

I looked up at grandma,  "About that... it's a long story. Our moms think we dyed it on purpose but the truth is that we kinda ate the lollies that were in a box with your name on it."

"You what?! I was supposed to take that box with me but I forgot... Nothing is going to happen to Yuki since she already is the Moonchild and the last one to exist. No one knows how powerful she can be. Yuki, you will learn more about your powers and what you can do as the last moon child as time passes by but... The color will fade in about seven months, the lollies give you the ability to water bend so Jennie, you will be able to water bend as long as you take them!" She smiled, as she stretched her arms after the long flight.

"Come on grandma! We should get going, mom is waiting for us!" Haru called out as he took out his car keys and unlocked the car

We hopped back into the car and headed back home, I was so excited to start teaching Jennie to water bend. We can finally start doing it together, she always said that I was lucky to water bend but now she is too! She stayed quiet the whole ride though, I thought she'd be excited too.

The truth is, I keep discovering new powers I have. Usually, Moonchildren have one power or none. Am I getting weirder every day? Isn't it enough that I literally turn into the moon every night? I mean, I enjoy being able to water bend, understand animals and levitate objects but.. I don't know what I'm capable of, I once even ended up entering Jennie's weird dream at a sleepover. I don't want to be a freak anymore, I want to be able to just live a normal life like everyone else, like Jennie.

I stared at the sunset that looked like it was setting the blue sky on fire with the color red and orange blending into the blue sky as I sat at the bench in our garden throwing my head to the back and slowly closing my eyes.

I don't want to get any weirder than this...
