{XIX} The Storm Outside.

Vanessa was happy when she heard her father coming down the stairs. He was coming on perfect timing since the eggs had just finish being made. He walked into the kitchen, looked the food on the small table, then the messy stove.

She bit her lower lip as she put some eggs on his plate and she grabbed his arm, dragging him over to the table and pulled out a chair. She gave him an innocent smile, ''Please daddy, sit.'' she said since he just stared down at her with a confused look.

He did and she places the plate of eggs, bacon, and pancakes in front of him. She ran over to the fridge and grabbed the orange juice. She grabbed a cup as well. She put it next to his plate and poured him some.

When she turned and walked over to make her a plate, he finally spoke, ''Vanessa, I think we should talk about yesterday.''

She bit the right side of her cheek as she got to the stove, ''Later, daddy?" she asked, making herself a plate.

''No, I think now is good. You were out of line yesterday and can't just talk your way out of it. And you came home at one in the morning? Vanessa, that's so unlike you.'' he said as she made her plate slowly.

She finished and walked over to the table. She sat down across him and felt his eyes on her since she avoided eye contact. It hurt knowing she was lying to him and looking at his brown eyes would kill her. ''I know, daddy. Things. . .they haven't been the same. I know.''

''Is it what happened to you?" he asked.

Yes. ''Daddy. . .I'm going threw things right now. . .changes.'' How lame Vanessa!

''Changes?" he questioned and she sighed.

''I'm sorry how I acted yesterday. It was rude and disrespectful of me. I shouldn't have left school, it was wrong of me. I never do anything bad though, you know there's something on my mind if I'm acting weird.'' she said.

''Then talk to me.'' he said

''I can't.'' she answered with a another sigh. She hoped when she woke up this morning she could somehow all avoid this. She wanted to spend her day with her dad doing normal stuff. She wants to lay on the couch and order a movie on demand with him. She wants to relive memories with him. Laugh, cry, and just make today normal.

''Why?" he asked and she hesitated, not sure how she can answer that.

''I-I just don't want to.'' she said, taking a bit of her pancakes. ''If it makes you happy, we can talk about me seeing a therapist Monday. Right now, I just wanna enjoy our Saturday.''

''But Vanessa--''

''Please daddy.'' she said, widen her blue eyes and pouted her bottom lip. ''I said I was sorry.''

He gave me a look he always gave me when he gave in to my look because he was annoyed and hesitated, ''Fine, fine!"

. . .

Vanessa was getting frustrated when she put the spoon in the ice cream, trying to scoop some out for her dad. It was frozen completely solid and it was being stubborn! She was half tempted to put it in the microwave. She did tell her dad to never put it in that far back of the freezer where it's the coldest.

She then thought of something and bit her bottom lip. She thought about it and held her hand out. Forming her hand in a tight fist, she imagined the ice cream melting.

But nothing happened,

''Okay.'' she whispered to herself, strengthen her shoulders and took a deep breath. She carefully eyes the carton of ice cream and tried again.

It happened to quickly. One minute the ice cream was frozen solid and the next it was liquid. It happened in two second, not giving her any time to stop. Even when she did stop and step back, it seem to have steam appearing and sizzle a little. How is she suppose to control that?

''Vanessa?" her dad called. ''How's it going?"

''Uh. . .the ice cream is bad. I'm just going to throw it away.'' she said before she touched the hot carton and quickly pulled back, feeling the hot wet water. She grabbed a rag quickly and dried her hands. She grabbed the trash can and threw the carton in the trash.

She went over to the cabinet and grabbed the oreos they had. She poured them a glass a milk and went back into the living room where Fantastic Four was playing on the TV.

While half way watching the movie, Vanessa heard something from outside. She raised an eyebrow as she got up from the couch and went over to the window, pulling the curtain aside. The sky was gray like a big storm was coming and she had this bad feeling in her stomach. She tried not to think about Queen Severina and how pissed she might be.

Vanessa kissing Raphael when she knew they were out there was a big no no. She knew that without being told. She pushed the curtain back and listen to the storm outside when she tried her hardest to just watch the movie.

''Jeez, I thought the weather man said it was going to be clear.'' her dad said and she frowned as she looked at the window.

The living room lights and the TV shut of suddenly. Vanessa gasped loudly as she looked around the living room. It was very dark since it was only five but its just that it happened quickly.

''Damn storm.'' her father said. ''Just getting good to.''

. . .

"Why do you think the lights haven't come on?" Vanessa asked her dad as she ate her cold pizza they had order from earlier. It was completely dark now and they had to light the few candles they had. They placed them on the coffee table and sat on each side.

''I'm sure it will soon.'' he said, smiling at her. ''You're eating like your mother. Eating the cheese first before the pizza.''

''How Anita?" she asked since right now she didn't want to talk about her mother. She didn't want to darken the mood. When her father brought up her mother, it would always seem depressing when he brings her up.

''She's fine, she wants us to come over for dinner this coming Friday,'' he said. ''Do you remember the song 'Among Them'?"

''Among Them?" she questioned.

''Yeah, its a little Coasta Sirenas little legend song.'' he said. ''No one sings it lately, but your mother sang it to you when you were really little. She wasn't the best singer, but it always got you to sleep. 'In the beautiful ocean, swim the most beautiful of the sea. Swim with passion, they serve to fight what's right. Among them, they fight all together to defend thee sea. Among them, they serve for the one that cant speak. With their beautiful melody, they defend the sea'--I can't remember the rest but allot of people sang to their child.

''I remember now.'' she said. ''Mom didn't have the best voice, but being held so close made me feel protected enough to sleep.''

''I know it felt like I haven't been here allot. I mean, I know I've been here but always seems distracted, I just want to let you know I'm so thankful to have to you, Vanessa. You're the only thing I have left to remind me how amazing she was. I'll always love her.'' he said and she nodded. ''Anita. . .she's great.''

''She is. Very nice and everyone in town loves her.'' she said. ''Mom would want you to be happy after this long. She's probably screaming now at how long it took you.''

He chuckled, ''Maybe. Just know this doesn't mean since I am dating again, doesn't mean I'm going to forget about her.''

She smiled and reached her hand out, grasping it tightly in her hand, ''Good. Be happy.''

''We all well be happy.'' he said, rubbing his thumb over her hand. She got up and moved next to him, wrapping her arms around his neck, hugging him.

''I love you daddy.'' she whispered in his ear. And that's when the lights seems to want to come back on, making them both laugh.
