{XI} Natural Disaster, Abandon Ship, and Beth & Henry.
Once Vanessa got off work from Rita's at three thirty, she didn't head home. Instead, she walked down the beach towards the boardwalk bridge, a little tired. She had a long morning, got at work at three and surprising there were a lot of people at the beach surfing but the weather was getting warmer and warmer, more people were showing up.
She had a feeling she would find Adalyn there waiting for her. She just felt it in her bones that she would be there and Adalyn was. She had a book in her head but when Vanessa appeared next to her, she closed the book and looked up at her, “I was waiting for you.”
“There's something you didn't tell me.”, she said and Adalyn didn't look surprised at all. She didn't look excited at all though which surprised Vanessa because whenever Vanessa learns something about mermaids, she gets excited, but this time she wasn't.
Adalyn got up from the sand, “Queen Severina has big plans for you apparently.”, she said. “Bigger then just being our little spy to walk on land since your from this generation.”
“I don't get it.”, Vanessa said as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Adalyn, I'm making things explode and make water float in the air. This is something you should tell me if we're able to do this. How could you just not tell me? I'm really scared about it.”
Adalyn sighed heavily and pushed her blonde hair behind her ears, “Vanessa, that's the thing, we can't.”, she said and Vanessa was taken back. Vanessa was about to ask what she meant, but Adalyn was quicker, “Only Queen Severina has powers, me and our sisters can't. She's changing things though, she made you drink that tea yesterday, it had her blood in it.”
“What?”, Vanessa breathed out shockingly. “I-I don't understand, why was her blood in the tea?”
“She wants to make a new group of mermaids, ones with powers like her own. Your the first to try it and they're coming in quicker then we thought I guess.”, she said. “I'm sorry, I was just told this yesterday, I didn't know.”
“So I'm just your pet?”, Vanessa asked. “You're only using me to try some powers out?”
“Vanessa, of course not.”, she said. “In the beginning, I was told to recruit a girl so we can learn about Coasta Sirenas today so we can make our return. I didn't know she was going to do this. Actually, I should say your lucky.”, she said, her voice getting hard with jealously as she stepped back. “Don't blame me for this, I didn't know.”
“Adalyn, how am I suppose to deal with this?”, she asked. “I'm scared, I'm making new air, moving water, causing explosion. If I can't be around water when I'm in public, what if I get wet? Why would Queen Serevina do this to me, why not you?”
“Because your not fully transformed, she was a younger mermaid.”, she said, biting her lower lip. “If. . .if the blood would have had a side effect, it might have killed you since her blood is very powerful.”
“She doesn't care about my life.”, Vanessa said, her voice getting hard since she was angry that her life means nothing right now until she's fully a mermaid. “I'm only her pet.”, she said, her arms being thrown to her.
Smack!
Both their heads snapped towards the oceans where a heavy large wave had dangerously hit the sand. Adalyn head snapped back to Vanessa, “You have to be careful, Vanessa. If you get to angry, you can cause a natural disaster.”
“Then she should have done this to an older mermaid! You could have done this!”, Vanessa yelled, not helping her voice level. She was angry, hurt, and felt betrayed. “I thought you were my friend, Adalyn.”
“I am.”, she said, stepping towards her. “But just like you, I wouldn't know what to do. I would be scared to, I don't know how to train you.”
“So she gave me these powers to be left here all alone?”, she asked. “Does she want the secret exposed?”
“She's testing you.”, she said. “If you can control your powers, she knows the next generation of mermaids all around the world can handle it. Me and the others are already mermaids, we wont accept the blood and we know this cause we tried. Your still considered human, you body and soul can handle it.”
“Raphael almost saw me twice doing these powers.”, Vanessa said.
“You shouldn't be with around anyways.”, Adalyn hissed. “He's our enemy and when he goes out to the water one day, he will be attack by either me or one of the girls.”
“Adalyn, no.”, Vanessa said. “Raphael is a good guy—“
“He kills our kind, Vanessa.”, she said. “Believe it or not, but yes, you are fish. We're suppose to protect our kind, not fall in love with their killers.”
“I didn't choose yet!”, Vanessa yelled and she heard a thunder in the sky. She looked up at the sky and realized the nice sunny blue sky had gone gray.
“Vanessa, relax.”, Adalyn said, her voice much calmer.
“I like Raphael, I had liked him long before you came into my life.”, Vanessa hissed. She didn't know why she was being so cold and mean, it was so unlike her. Words were just flying out her mouth though.
“Okay, your right.”, Adalyn said, holding a arm out. “I'm sorry, but you have to calm down. You don't want to do something you will regret later.”
Vanessa pressed her lips together roughly and she huffed, “Don't look at me like that, like i'm dangerous.”, she said.
“Lets go swimming.”, Adalyn said, putting her soft hands on Vanessa shoulders. “Lets go in the water, doesn't that sound nice?”
Vanessa bit her lower lip and she saw light come under the bridge spaces, telling her the storm was going away because she was getting calmer at the thought of being in the water.

Vanessa met Adalyn at the surface, “I wasn't me back there.”, Vanessa said. “I'm so sorry, Adalyn.”
“Your right, it wasn't you.”, she said and Vanessa closed her eyes. “It's the magic, it's changing you.”
Vanessa eyes opened and she gave Adalyn a confused look, “What do you mean?”
“Queen Serevina told me your attitude will change, it's just part of the magic. Vanessa, your going to change. Once your tail sprouts, you can be stronger then me and I’m way passed a hundred.”, she said, looking at me concern. “You could be at Queen Severina level of strong, do you know how jealous that makes me of you? You will be her favorite soon.”
“Please don't be jealous me.”, Vanessa said. “Believe me, it's really scary. I almost caused a flood back in Coasta Sirenas.”
Adalyn nodded slowly for a moment, “You may be stronger, but the other girls will not like this. You will have to be careful, some of the girls have tempers. We're joined together by love but that does not mean we don't have our sibling rivalry.”
“I understand.”, Vanessa said, nodding.
“Good.”, she said. “Come on, I want to show you something.”
Adalyn lifted her arms up and dipped into the water, her tail coming above the water, and follow her back down. Vanessa took a deep breath even though it was necessary and went back into the water. She followed Adalyn to the deep end and she held her hand out. Vanessa took it with such trust and before she knew it, she was speeding across the ocean to somewhere she wasn't sure.
It was a few moments before Adalyn had stopped and Vanessa looked around her surroundings. It seemed like the other places until she turned around and was taken back to see an old wreck ship. Her eyes widen and Adalyn appeared next to her.
She gave her a smile and swam towards it. Vanessa was hesitant since she wasn't sure going in an abandon eighteenth century wreck ship was a good idea. The thought actually scared her, it was going into some haunted house at the fair. You knew what was inside, but still scared like shit to see what you find and what pops out.
Vanessa swam though towards the ship and Adalyn went through the broken hole in the ship. Vanessa did the same thing and she thought it would be dark in the ship, but it was actually only dim. She looked around and it seem to be some room people would sleep in. Adalyn swan over towards the door and Vanessa followed behind.
Vanessa still got this chilly feeling being in the ship, but who wouldn't? Where some people could find this cool, Vanessa was waiting for something scary to pop out. Adalyn got to the end of the ship hall and opened the door. Vanessa hesitated so Adalyn poped her head out the door, her blonde hair everywhere, and she gave Vanessa a confused look.
Vanessa just gave her a small smile before pushing her own hair out of the way she swam passed her and into the room that looked like it would be luxurious before. She went over to the bed and touched the very old mattress. Felt like a normal mattress and she picked up the dirty sheet. She wonders what kind of person slept in this room before.
Vanesssa.. . .
She heard in her head, making her head snapped towards Adalyn with her eyes a little widen. Whoa, how cool, she thought. Adalyn was over at some door and Vanessa swam over towards her and she opened the door.
Vanessa eyes widen.
Inside the clothes was old fashion renaissance clothes for women. Adalyn grinned and pulled one of the dresses out, holding it in front of here, bring the back of one of her hands up to her head and tilt her head back like a dismal in distress kind of way, making Vanessa smile and chuckle a little.
She threw the dress aside and grabbed another one. Vanessa looked inside the big closet and moved the few things away so she could in. It was a little smaller then the normal walk in closet. Some of the dresses were so beautiful but had lost their touch from being in the water for so long. She could tell that the women who must have had these was from a rich family.
These dresses would be worth so much for their vintage style and it came from the renaissance! Could be in a museum.
One of Vanessa fin feet touched something, scaring her for a quick second when she looked down, and saw it was a wooden box. She reached down and touched the slimy box. She made a face but picked the box up. She touched the top a little, seeing the roses decorated on top.
She opened the lid and saw so much jewelry. Her mouth dropped as touched some of the jewelry, not believing what she was seeing. She saw Adalyn swim up next to her and she looked up at Adalyn. Adalyn smiled and nodded, closing the box, pushing it closer to Vanessa.
Does that mean she can have it?
{}
Once Vanessa got home, she empties the box and cleaned off the muff and grim off the beautiful jewelry. Once Vanessa and Adalyn had returned to Coasta Sirenas, Vanessa had felt so bad about taking it and thought of it as stealing.
It's not stealing if it doesn't belong to anyone anymore, it's your discovery, Vanessa, Adalyn had said to her.
Vanessa took off her gloves and turned off the sink and took the jewlery that was in a large bowl upstairs to her room. She laid a towel out and dumped the stuff out. She wrapped the bowl around the jewlary and dried them off the best she can.
When she was done, she touched the jewelry. Many were gold, sliver, and maybe brass. She wasn't sure the different types, but it amazed her. There were maybe about fifteen jewelry laying on her bed, mostly necklaces and bracelets. A few cross necklaces with gems decorating it and flower shapes with gems also. One had an angel on it with a little gem dangling at the bottom.
She smiled, What a day.
Vanessa picked up the object that was different from the others. It was a locker, about the size of a golf ball, it fit perfectly in the palm of her hand. She touched the top where flowers craved in decorated the top.
She unhooked the side and opened it. Water came out, but she managed to avoid getting wet. She saw a picture of a man painted on the left side. It wasn't very good, it was blurry though but she knew it was a man. The picture was also a little crinkle but she sure the women first got it, it was easily visible. On the right was engraved, Until We See Each Other Again Beth -Henry
She touched the engraved part, frowning. She didn't even care when her body changed. Someone loved this women and this must have been a special gift. She wonders if Beth survived the wreck and made it to Henry.
