{VI} Glowly Enchanting Thing.

Vanessa took a few steps into her school and everyone around looked at her. Her face flushed and she wanted to go hide. Everyone seem to look at her weirdly thought, not the pity and noise look, but with wonder. She wanted badly to go to a mirror and see if there was something suppose to be on her face.

She walked around people and went to her locker. She grabbed her stuff she needed and she saw Adalyn walking down the hall, some of the people giving her the same look. It didn’t help that Adalyn was fashion model beauty.

She walked past Vanessa with a smile on her face when she looked at her and Vanessa gave her a small smile back. She remembered yesterday, remembering how free she felt and didn’t have a care with in a the world because she wasn’t in her same world, she was in a different one. A much better one.

She couldn’t wait till the end of school, she wanted to go back so badly.

She made her way to class and ignore the stares she was getting. Okay, so maybe she looks a little different. She use to be invisible to these people, but what’s making her stand out so much?

She walked into class which was with Adalyn who was the desk—with a small box of seashell. “Aren’t they pretty.”, she asked, rubbing her fingers over the shell as she stared down at the pink and white shell with a hint of blue around the edges. “I found them in a store, I plan to make them into a necklace.”.

“Uh, okay.”, she said. “Adalyn, why is everyone staring at me?’.

                “You’re glowing.”, she hummed.

                “Huh?”, she asked, panic rasing.

She chuckle and looked up at her, “Okay, not really. There’s this invisible enchanting glow around you that’s catching their attention, making them look at you. You’re a mermaid, it’s comes with the gift.”.

“Well, how do I—I don’t know, turn it off?”, she asked.

“You make it.”, she said as if was the simplest thing on earth and Vanessa raised an eyebrow. She chuckled, “Nessa, just tell it.”.

“Say it?”, she asked and Adalyn nodded. “Okaaay. Glowly thing, turn off.”, she said, then turned her head around to look at her classmate, seeing everyone had difently stopped staring at her—well most of them did. A few boys were staring still.

She turned back to Adalyn, a little annoyed. She shrugged, “What? Your are stunning looking, your were before, but being who you are, it make it more beautiful. The boys aren’t being enchanted, they actually think your beautiful. ”.

“Oh.”, she said, blushing as she brushed one side of her behind her ear and went to her seat.

Vanessa walked into the Rita’s shop and both Cameron and Shayna gasped, running over to her and grabbed her, pulling her into a tight hug.

“Don’t give us another heart attack!”, Shayna said.

“Yeah.”, Cameron said. “What were you think going out that far into the water? Are you crazy?”.

Vanessa opened her mouth, but Shayne spoke, “What happened to you? Girl, I don’t you were in a dangerous situation, but damn, did you get tan while out there? I mean your so beautiful and stunning looking, almost magical.”.

Already? I just turned you off at lunch!, she said. Lunch was not fun when she sat down to eat her sandwich and suddenly people were fighting to sit with her. Okay, so maybe being a mermaid isn’t all fabulous, it does have it’s cons.

Pro: Amazing adventure under the sea and being best friends with dolphins.

Con: Being careful around water an having people look at her you as if you were some diamond

Vanessa walked backwards, “Uh, Cammie, Shayna, I’ll back right—oh, I’m sorry!”, she said quickly as she turned around when she bumped into someone. She took a step back when she realized it was Raphael, “Sorry.”, she repeated.

“It’s okay.”, he said. He stared down at her and she frowned, it was effecting him now. She could feel the two girls behind her staring and she hated this. How long has this glowly thing been happening? Just this morning? But did it start yesterday and is that why Raphael giving her so much attention suddenly?

She walked around him and turned around, “Turn off.”, she said before turning back to them. “Ready for work?”, she asked, avoiding Raphael as she walked past him into the shop, past the two girls, and went behind the counter.

Vanessa looked around the ocean blue world, This feeling will never go away, she thought to herself.

Adalyn appeared from behind the rock she was hiding from, sticking her tongue out towards Vanessa. Vanessa gave her a challenging look before swimming over to her, but Adalyn was quicker to get away.

She gave a small groaning sound, wishing she was faster. Adalyn explained she would be fast when she has her full grown tail, but right now, she has only flippers.

When the time came for Vanessa to go home, she was a little disappointed, but she knew she would have tomorrow. She crawled onto land with Adalyn and waited for her legs to come back.

“Queen Severina wants to meet you in two days.”, Adalyn said.

Vanessa gave her a startled look, “Really? What’s she like?”

“She’s wonderful.”, she said. “She excited to meet you.”.

“How do we get there? I mean, where is she at anyways?”, she asked.

She licked her lips, “We don’t know.”, she said. “It’s complicated, but she comes to us. All I know is that we’re suppose to meet in two days here.”.

“What does she want to talk about?”, Vanessa asked.

“Your mission.”, she said and Vanessa gave her a confused look. “Remember, we needed you so we could figure out the fishermen business, be our spy.”, she said and Vanessa looked away, remembering that. She had forgotten why Adalyn turned her into Mermaid. She felt like she was just being used. Adalyn took her hand, “Nessa, your still very important to us. We need you.”

“I-I know, but I just—don’t feel right about this.”, she said. “I haven’t even decided if I want to stay like this or not.”.

“What is there to decide?”, she asked. “Isn’t this life wonderful?”.

“Yes, but it’s still complicated.”, she said.

“Well your going to have to decide soon.”, she said.

                “How soon?”.

“Until it’s my time to leave land again. Two weeks.”, she said.

“I can’t choose a life decision in just two weeks.”, Vanessa said.

“You’re gonna have to, Nessa.”, she said.

Vanessa stared down at the sink full of dishes and was trying to come up with some excuse on why she could do them. She brought her hand up to her head and scratched it, then swinging it down to her hip and sighed. “Why couldn’t we have a dish washer?”, she asked herself.

She turned her head to the side and saw the draw cracked opened a little. Her eyes widen when she came up with an idea. She walked over to the draw where her dad keeps some gorcey bags just in case they needed them. She took two of them out and grabbed the tape.

“Haha, I knew I could come up with something.”, she said, looking at her bag covered hands. She walked over to the sink and grabbed the first cup, but she lost her grip and it fell out of her hand. She cringed at the glass smashing. “More gently.”, she said before cleaning up the broken glass.

Twenty minutes later, her dad walked into the kitchen, “Your still cleaning the dish—uh, should I ask?”, he asked, looking at her plastic bag covered hands.

Vanessa brain started to fill up with excuses, but she said, “I don’t want dry hands, so…”, she trailed off.

“Riiiight.”, he said slowly before turning around. “I have a weird child.”, he muttered as he walked away.
