Sign Of The Dreams
I still remember how it all started and most importantly how it all ended. Back then I was in a high school in Tokyo. Tokyo... my dream city. though being a 16 year old teenager I maintained a place in the people's heart as a popular singer . I was on a tour in switzerland with my friends who pretended to be my manager and my assistant.
Scrolling over her laptop Ana turned to Sashi ,"I understand Naomi is doing great but you have to cut down the amount of time you spend listening to her singing on the television". Sashi switched off the television and went on to peep in her laptop screen. "hey! look. There's a request there for Naomi". "Right. It's from some international guitarist. He wants to perform a duet with Naomi".
I remember that was when I entered the drawing room in my bathrobe with a coffee mug in my hand. As it is, the hotel rooms in Switzerland are much like your farm houses.
"what are we talking about"? I asked after having a sip from the dark drink. "About a guitarist who wants to perform a duet with you". Ana said turning the laptop screen towards me. "Its a billion dollar opportunity, Naomi. You should give it a try". said Sashi with a weird spark in his eyes. "Alright! accept it". I said accepting my defeat . I couldn't really turn down my friends and that is now my biggest weakness.
"What about yuri"? Sashi asked. He cared about my young 7 year old sister more than I did. "The same thing we usually do. To the Care centre".I replied. "Poor sister. I pity your sister Naomi". Ana said as she walked past the table to the bedroom. She arranged the sheets for me and laid down the cushions very neat. "Flight's next week. Have your rest. We will be recording your song this entire week". Ana was rough with her tone. " Where is the next tour"? I asked with curiosity. "Greece it says here". Sashi's voice came from the other end of the room.
They left me in my room with peace and dark as my only mates there.
At around 1 in the morning a scream was heard in the drawing room. "What was that"? Sashi asked Ana. "I am not sure. I guess it was Naomi who screamed.". They both ran straight towards my room and switching on the lights they found me trembling under my sheets. Ana came over to me and holding my shoulders tight she shook me right out of my life . Coming back to my senses , I hugged Ana and Sashi like as if we met after ages.
"What happened"? Sashi asked me.
"I saw a horrible dream. A nightmare. It was cruel and unexpected". I replied. "When you say cruel you mean.." Ana stopped and expected an immediate reply. "Cruel. I mean cruel. There was someone called yen.. he carried a guitar over his shoulder. Then I saw myself. He waved at me. Then there was another guy named shoko. I couldn't really see his face. It was faded. Then he tripped over something and was going to fall off the cliff but I jumped over and caught hold of his arm with my other hand swinging behind me in the air".
"Guitar"? Ana asked me. "Right. What about it"? I asked her. "Oh my God. Tell me you are stressed out by the fact that you are going to perform a duet with an international guitarist in Greece. Don't worry. You will be fine". Ana assured me. "Right. You might be correct with that but..." I was cut by Ana, "No justifications to give yourself and no explanations to stress yourself. Forget it . It was a dream".
Back in the drawing room Sashi worked out vaguely. "What about the names she heard in her dream"? He asked Ana. "Must be made up". She replied finishing tge last bite of the ice cream.
"Really? Even the names"? Sashi asked her. "Yes. Even the names".
She replied. Sashi was not satisfied and Ana could see it. "Look. Visions exist. Visionaries exist but that doesn't mean Naomi is one". She said in much calm way than her actual tone. "I don't know. What about brain psychopaths"? Sashi asked. "Psychopaths"? Ana was almost going to break out with laughter. "Yes I get it. It is lame. But why not". Sashi said. "I am not sure Sashi. Its not really that big of a deal". Ana said while resting her head on the couch cushion.
Two days passed by. I had the horrible dream these two days. I hated it. I was scared of falling asleep now. Unknown people walked on my dreams and dealt with an accident I wasn't aware of. It's true dreams are never planned but it's also true that dreams show you your worth. Who knows. Probably my dream was a sign of something.
That day was a thursday night. A normal thursday. I threw tantrums to not go to sleep. "Running away is no way things are going to work Naomi. Just go sleep. Keep your mind completely blank". Ana said tucking me under my sheets. "But what if something horrible happens this time". I asked her. "Just forget it the next morning" she said simply.
"Aaaaaaaaaaa......"
"Tell me its Naomi again". Sashi turned towards my room. "I am pretty sure its her because Yuri is not the one who cares". Ana said. They came to my room and turned on the lights. To their surprise I was lying on the floor and mumbling something that didn't make sense at all like a crazy...maniac.
"Naomi. God. You okay"? Sashi asked while pulling me to stand up. I was not in my conscience as a whole. I could hear him but was scared to answer. Everything seemed like a winter horror.
"What was it? What did you see"? Ana asked me. "I fell off the cliff with shoko. Yen lost his hold on me so". I replied. They got me to lay down on the bed and when I dozed off they turned off the lights and left me to my being. "Now I am really worried". Said Sashi. "Yes. Me too". Ana said. "Wait. Hold it. I am so done. You see them, hear their names. Really"? Ana asked. "Tell me how Yen looked"? Sashi asked. "Well...to start with I could see only Yen as I told you. So him. He had dark hair, shoulder length and it was fuzzy at the bottom. He wore a black coloured spectacles but you could still save out his eyes. His eyes were ocean blue..like deep ocean. They had a weird spark in them. Not most of the people tend to have such a spark. His expressions were a mixture of something you couldn't tell. He was something beautifully peculiar". I replied. "That's like your dream prince, I believe". Ana said. "Not really". I said.
The next day was the day for the big event. It was almost 4 am when my eyes opened. Yes the reason was my dreams. I turned around me. The lights were off but there was light peeping in the room from somewhere. From Somewhere above my bed. Yes. The window was open. The entire night it was open. Thinking what I just saw I walked towards the record room. Sashi and Ana saw me. "Where you heading to"? Sashi asked me. "To the record room". I replied. "Why though"? Ana asked. "Because I heard a song in my dreams and I still remember it". I said, it was crazy. Really. Ana and Sashi followed me to the record room. I started singing. It was a slow song with a lot many feelings. They liked it. "I'll sing this one". I said. "You wanna change songs now? At the last moment"? Sashi asked me. "Yes. I want to". Without arguing Sashi uploaded the song on my website and we waited for the reply from Yen's manager. It came. They liked it as well. With a relief and tinge of happiness I went back to sleep. Yes. Back to sleep.
When I finally woke up it was around 6 am. My flight was for 8 am. Yes. I was late for my second tour. The entire time in the aeroplane I was thinking about the guy yen and shoko whose face was faded and covered with bright light. I could feel the aeroplane land and I really didn't want to take a peep outside for my assurance because i still hadn't overcome my travelling fear.
We booked a cab to the auditorium. At around 20-30 minutes we reached the front gates. It was much beautiful than what I had imagined, bigger than the town hall in tokyo. We entered the auditorium in a pack. It was silent in the backstage, the silence before a big event. We searched for yen.
Yes. Yen. Did I mention what actually that morning? After I screamed again after seeing that horrid dream, Sashi and Ana were worried more than ever. They checked out the international guitarist's proflie. Turned out his name was yen and he looked exactly how I described him.
Back there in the backstage I, Ana and Sashi kept looking for Yen everywhere. We found him nowhere until he showed up himself. "Hey there! May ask you the way". He asked me. "Uh..aren't we both supposed to have a duet together today"? I asked him. "Wait up. You are Naomi"? Yen stared right in my eyes. With my heart pounding crazy I cross-eyed and looked down on the floor. "Yes...yes..I, I am Naomi". I replied. He caught back then took a deep breath and after he was focused he looked at me and smiled.
"I think we should rehearse once before the big event". Yen said. "Sure". Was all I could say. We started. The song I wrote in my dreams, coming out as a perfect stitch. Ana and Sashi stood there all happy. They liked it obviously. Happy should mean that, there, in that case.
"Wow. You were good, Naomi". Yen said to me. "Really! Thank you. Same goes for you". I said. "Naomi...I remember a friend of mine with that name but we were too young like second graders so i am not very sure if she looks like you" with the last words he gave a slight laugh.
"Oh. Strange. Well can I tell you something weird before we go"? I asked. I am not sure what was I thinking back then. "Sure. Go ahead. For me nothing can get weirder". Yen said. "Well. The song. I didn't really write it..." I wasn't completed. "It is a copyright"? Yen asked, surprised. "No, no. I mean I didn't write it while thinking about it. I dreamt....it..." I said. "You dreamt the..song..right"? Yen asked. "Right". I replied. Yen gave a tiny laugh and then he said, "there is nothing weird about it. It's kinda cute and magical". Yen said. I was really amazed by the answer but I really liked the reply.
"Now, don't think. Let's give them a good show". Yen said. "Yes". I said. I and Yen walked up to the stage. Claps thundered. The audiences whispers was still loud enough to make out every word clearly. But more than these I knew who got me here. My friends. And I had to give my best for them. I couldn't really turn them down. I didn't want to turn them down. I sang. Yen gave me the tunes. We made it. It sounded perfect.
After the thundering of the claps that was heard again after the song was finished we went for the backstage and waited for the results. I had w crazy thought in my mind. I wanted to ask Yen...about shoko. I wanted to somehow but before I could I felt a hand over my shoulder. It was Yen. "You did good".
