Chapter 5. | Broken
If someone had told The Joker that he would be sitting beside the man who destroyed him in The Batmobile he would have laughed in their faces. But there he was, but this time it wasn't as a captive criminal. No, he was holding the limp body of the woman he loved.
And unfortunately this wasn't a dream and it certainly wasn't a hallucination.
Her eyes were closed peacefully and body laid still but the blood leaking from her nose drove him mad. He wanted to reach down and wipe it away but she had told him not to touch her many times, not to even look at her until she passed out cold.
As the car drove he started to get more agitated by the amount of time it was taking, "Damn it Bats can't you drive faster than this?" His voice came out as an angry scream but Batman didn't even flinch nor look at Joker. He had a poker face.
The silence killed him but he sat semi-patiently until they arrived in the Bat Cave where Alfred met them ready to help. This didn't stop the disgusted look on his weathered face as he looked at Joker, but he didn't pay attention as he watched Batman set Harley on a metal table.
The clown followed after them quickly and looked down at his little harlequin, caressing the blonde's pale face. Happiness built up inside him as her eyes fluttered open, pupils dilating to the light but zeroing in on his face.
But instead of smiling at the Joker's loving touch, a painful look crossed her face and her arm swung up faster then he could account for, her hand smacking his face hard, making Alfred's mouth gasp at the exchange.
"You sick, sick man! Get away from me you son of -," she screamed in pain as Alfred put an IV in her arm, then looking back awkwardly at the shocked man, "How could you do this to me? Don't you ever fucking touch me you stupid clown!"
Her screams felt like daggers stabbing his heart and every single attempt to calm his sweet girl down was futile. By the time she was being sedated his hands were covered in deep bites, it was as if she was possessed by a demon. Harley's usually bright eyes were stormy and darkened with an indescribable mixture of anger and sadness.
"Harley honey, please stop you're going to hurt yourself," he tried to calm her down but she was only visibly more agitated. Thrashing her body around like a fish out of water.
She spat at him and growled, "Hurt myself?! You did this to me, this is your fault you bastard!"
Batman held her hands down to the metal table and waited for Alfred until he stormed into the room, needle in hand and expertly injected a pale liquid into her neck. Harley's rageful screams were now replaced with maniac laughter that echoed the cave. J's mind wandered back to Arkham when he received the same treatment during the violent episodes he experienced. But it was now her to get the thin metal pierce to the neck, her giggles starting to fade and eyes fluttered closed.
The old british man placed a hand delicately over her forehead and sighed calmly, as if a touch could cure everything. It couldn't.
"She is going to be out for the rest of the night, but I highly suggest you wait outside so the girl will stay calm sir," Alfred obviously wasn't pleased to be talking to The Joker so nice and pleasantly but he did it anyway.
Don't you sir me you old pompous British ass-
"Alright," The Joker tried to calm himself down as he walked from the room, placing himself in a chair on the outside of the room. Waiting hours for his angel to wake up and get better. He buried his face in his tattooed hands and let out a heavy sigh.
Alfred frowned at the sight and actually felt a bit of sadness for the sadistic man.

Hours later a voice startled the almost sleeping Joker in kind words. "Here, this will keep you warm," Alfred stood holding a tray in his gloved hands. On it was a bowl of soup and a cup of tea. He quietly placed it on a table near the man and entered the room to check on Harley.
J just stared at the food indifferently, trying to ignore the delicious smell of the creamy pea soup, and patiently waited for the butler to come out until a deep voice catches caught his attention.
"There is no fever so there's no infection. The bruise on her shoulder looks fine but we'll have to wait until tomorrow to get all the equipment and get a look at the rest of her body. We'll need x-rays and a magnetic resonance will be needed and the doctor..." Batman's spoke quietly.
Suddenly, a small voice interrupted all the chatter and the Joker sat up straight at the words, not willing them to be true.
"I can't feel my legs..."
