Chapter 2:
The school bell rang as I fished out my books from by bag. A mob of people rushed towards their lockers as they began to gossip about the latest news at school.
"Oh my gosh, did you hear about yesterday's party at-"
"The usual,"I thought as I grimaced. If only they could gossip elsewhere. I was having enough trouble trying to memorize my french essay without their disturbance. I growled and continued sorting my stuff. Then, suddenly, something caught my attention.
" Did you hear that 10 people fell unconscious and died in the States yesterday?"
"Yeah! It was horrible! They say that some of the bystanders fell into a coma!"
"It's because a meteorite or something right?"
I spun around and rushed over towards the crowd.
"Meteorite,"I asked as I pushed through the crowd of people.
"Yeah! Cool right,"the girl beside me exclaimed cheerfully.
I nodded, but reluctantly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. A meteorite was responsible for people dying? Ridiculous! There was no way a beautiful meteorite could possibly do such a thing.
"Are you sure it was because of a meteorite,"I asked.
"What do you mean? I mean like, do you have a better explanation,"a familiar voice snickered. It was Katrina. The school's most popular and well known girl. She was a ravishing beauty, so I wouldn't be surprised.
I sighed. "No, I don't have a better explanation."
"I thought so! Right, Eric,"Katrina smiled brightly at Eric who was unwillingly standing beside her.
"Sure,"Eric shrugged. "Beats me!"
I growled. Couldn't he have at least tried to disagree with her? I was disappointed, but obviously I wasn't surprised at the same time.
"Whatever,"I sighed and walked away towards Kathrine who was happily chirping away with some guy.
"Oh, hi besty,"Kathrine greeted as she turned around.
"Hi,"I replied as I stormed towards her.
"What's up,"Kathrine said cheerfully. As you can tell, my friend here was a happy-go-lucky type of person.
I grimaced. "Katrina. That's what."
The grin on Kathrine's face disappeared. "Katrina? Ugh! That girl has such a big ego!"
I nudged Kathrine to remind her that the guy she was talking to was still here.
"Oh,"Kathrine realized.
I nodded.
" Sorry. Talk to you later,"Kathrine waved the guy goodbye. The poor guy left as he managed a lopsided smiled. I snickered.
"Wanna go to class,"Kathrine suggested.
"And be a good role model for others,"I asked sarcastically.
"Of course,"Kathrine said as we walked towards our classroom.
I smiled. I just loved that girl's sense of humor.
First period was normal. No. Normal would be an understatement. Don't get me wrong. I love science. Science is my life, but as much as I love science, I couldn't help feeling that the class dragged on forever.
"Class,"Mr. Atom, our physics teacher said in a whisper. "Open your textbooks and turn to page 673. Now hurry! We've got no time to waste."
I yawned. Textbook work. Again! I turned around to face Katherine and shot her pleading eyes.
"I know right,"Kathrine whispered. "There's so much textbook work-"
"Miss. Kathrine, what was that I heard?" Mr. Atoms narrowed his eyes.
"Um...Nothing. I'm just tired. Just tired. Really,"Kathrine laughed nervously.
"I don't-,"Mr. Atoms snapped.
I panicked. Mr. Atom was a nice guy and all, but when he gets angry....let's just say it's not a pleasant thing. "Mr. Atoms, it was my fault. Don't blame Kathrine. "
"Oh?" Mr. Atoms give me an incredulous look. "Fine. Now class, continue. "
I sighed. Thank the gods! I glanced back at Kathrine and flashed her a meek smile. At least she's off the hook for now.
"Class," Mr. Atoms continued in a small voice. Even though he spoke in a whisper, everyone could hear him. His was probably gifted in silent speaking- if that's a thing. "Turn to page 673. No exceptions. Turn to page 673. "
*****After science (because all we did was textbook work, which was - believe me- boring)*****
