One quiet night, Valyria awoke in a cold sweat from a dream that tore through her mind. She found it odd that she felt cold, because only moments ago, in the depths of her imagination, she was on fire. Flames curled around her, consuming her body whole. In that dream, she saw flashes, that of death— life, sacrifice. A dance of dragons orchestrated by her mind. Her skin was slathered in blood, a thick crimson that nearly smothered her. Yet her hands, her hands were clean.

In her dream, her father appeared. Malevolence slithered around his features, nestling in where it belonged. He held out a vial, small but as heavy as the weight of a crown. The thought alone of holding it made her sink into the floor, drowning in the field of blood and ash she stood within.

"It will be you."

Those were the only words she could remember when she woke. Free of blood, free of death— but never free of the burdens that kept her confined to the small, obedient girl Valyria Targaryen was told to be.

Authors note,

lemme drag the cat out of the bag real quick, aegon targaryen is a HORRIBLE character, through and through. is she married to him? yes. is it a crazy toxic ass relationship? 100% because this is fanfiction. But NO i do not support or condone incest, that's simply the way of this universe and its what happens. when i'm writing i prefer to not stray too far away from the source material, because that is, in fact, what people read fics for. the complexity of the Targaryens and their way of thinking intrigues me, and it's just a whole subject i've been studying alongside the universe of ASOIAF. if this story is not for you, I understand. but know going into this it will contain a lot of heavy and serious themes / topics.

not trying to make anyone feel sympathy for Aegon, but rather for Valyria for having to put up with him.

once again— this is not a happy sweet love story. this is a story centered around the development of my character, valyria targaryen. and according to source material, targaryens have some of the most fucked up lives known to mankind. This is what this story portrays. just because i'm writing about the topic does not mean I condone it, i'm showing people, through Valyria's experiences, that it shouldn't be fantasized about.
