Chapter One- A Vampire At Dusk
Many of the mortal people live years not knowing that they aren't alone. That just outside of their reach, there is another realm different than the mortal realm- the magical one.
There are ways to enter this realm, ways that the mortal people can't use. If they were to try to enter, if they were even to find an entrance, they would likely be torn into nothingness upon entering it, for their frail bodies and minds were not developed to handle the traveling between realms. However, there are people who can enter, people known as Elementists.
These people are sorted into groups- the ones who control water, ones for fire, ones for life (plants and animals), ones for weather, and ones for the earth. They control the elements and keep them at peace- without the Elementists the world would tear itself apart.
But there is always the bad part of things, the evil. And so there is naturally something bad about this magical world that you mortals live side by side with. There is no special word for it- it is just evil. All of the dark things, things that want the Elementists gone. If the Elementists were distinguished, then the world would be left under the control and handling of all things evil.
So, a constant war is ever raging between the Elementists and the evil ones, and the evil side is led by the most cruel man to walk the earth. His name is Odio Tenebris, though he long since abandoned his first name. He is the most powerful man in the magical realm, except perhaps the Head of the Elementists- Head Seguronous. Tenebris had the will of all the evil beings in the palm of his hand, and he could and would make them do anything he wished for.
Unfortunately, the world is at stake. It is kept safe by a balance- if all of one element group was to die out, then all of the Elementists would die, and the world would be left in the hands of the evil. Knowing this, Tenebris set out for one group specifically.
It was the fire group.
The fire Elementists were known to be the strongest, bravest, fiercest, and most powerful of them all- and they had earned their title well. But they were few, for the chances of a fire Elementist being born is a rare occasion, one that only happens twice a year, if luck was on your side. So, even though they were the most difficult opponents, their numbers were few, and so Tenebris set out for them- and he was slowly succeeding.
Tenebris had used dark magic to ensure that his natural death would not come for two hundred more years- the only way to kill him was to slaughter him, which was nearly impossible. This way his spell ensured that he would be able to kill the fire group and take over the world before his death. So slowly, the fire group wore down.
Soon there were only two fire Elementists left- a boy named Caleb Cooper, and his sister Scarlett. Caleb was killed a week after his sixteenth birthday, making Scarlett the only one.
She was the last fire Elementist.
And she would be the one to cast the last flame.
~~~~~
The park was empty- dark and deserted. He had promised he would be here, saying he would bring the satchel.
She absently casts a flicker of fire with her fingers, toying with her magic. The boy that was supposed to meet her-the vampire, had always been attracted to their magic- the Elementist's magic, that is. He would always watch in fascination as they cast their spells, making water bloom from their fingertips and green vines and vegetation sprout from their palms.
Suddenly she senses a presence that was here with her, but no way is it the boy that she had been expecting to see. The presence feels dark, like it belongs to something evil.
She turns around slowly, peering into the darkness that blankets the neatly trimmed row of bushes behind her. Her hand twitches to the sword sheathed in her belt reflexively, and she pulls it out, holding it in front of her with both hands on the handle, the shining metal gleaming in the moonlight.
"Come out from your hiding place!" She shouts into the woods behind the bushes. "I know your there- show yourself!"
And very slowly, one gleaming red eye opens, bright red and illuminated. And then another. A clawed, three fingered hand with black nails reaches out and grabs hold of a thick branch coming from a willow tree, and pulls itself forward.
As it comes forward, she gets a full view of it's appearance, and it most certainly was a monster- one of the evil ones. A demon, probably. His skin was black and wrinkled, and he was so skinny that his ribs were a xylophone of bones underneath his skin. He had large black wings that sprouted from between his shoulder blades, and sharp, pointed yellow teeth with a drop of blood from it's latest victim dripping from it's mouth. He swipes at her with a clawed hand, hissing and snarling, but she moves out of the way, her sword grazing one of his long black nails.
He leaps from the cover that the trees provided him with, advancing on her, it's hands swiping at the air just before her nose. Before the beast could bring it's hand back, she swipes it cleanly off, and silver blood splatters onto the formerly green and neatly trimmed grass. It screeches in pain, falling back a few steps and clutching the stump that was now it's hand. Before it can react, she slices the air, slashing through the monster, and it bursts into nothingness.
She sheathes her sword, staring at the spot where it disappeared with satisfaction- that one was too easy. She didn't even have to use magic.
A slow, dramatic clapping sounds, and she turns to face the willow tree that the monster had used to pull himself from the shadows. "Scarlett Cooper. Beautiful show. Well done. Very well done." Perched on one of the higher tree branches was the boy- Alex- that she had been waiting for. "However, it would have been even more fascinating, had you used magic."
Alex drops down from the branch, straightening up to look her in the eye. Scarlett's eyes rake over him, taking in his appearance, which was the same as usual. He had pale skin and dark black hair that was cut longer and hung down to his chin, framing his angular face. He had piercing green eyes which used to be hazel but had intensified after his... transformation. His lips were a pale pink, and a blue earring glittered in his right earlobe. His slender figure was clothed with a pair of denim washed jeans, a shirt supporting the band the Grateful Dead and a black leather jacket draped over it. When he opened his mouth, two teeth, fangs, glittering white and perfect, were displayed for her to see.
Scarlett frowns. "Always so impressed with our magic."
He gives her a half grin in response, straightening his jacket. "You don't understand, for you were blessed with the gift of magic. I was only blessed with my fate of becoming a vampire- if one would call that blessed."
Scarlett presses her lips together. "We are here for business- nothing else. This isn't a support group." Her eyes flicker to his pockets, but they appear empty. "Do you have it?"
He takes out a small leather satchel, pinching the strap of it between his long pale fingers. He lets it sway back and forth as if to tempt her, but she knows better than to show how much she wants-how much she needs that satchel, so she meets his gaze instead. "You mean this?"
Her throat sounds hollow, dry. "Yes. Give it to me."
"Ah, not yet." Alex says, jerking it back away from her. "I'm certainly not going to just give it to you- not without getting something in return."
Scarlett glares. "Being a vampire really has changed you, hasn't it? The old you, the mortal you, would have given me that satchel the moment I asked for it."
Alex grins. "But I'm wiser now, and I see an opportunity to get something I want."
"And what is it that you want?"
His eyes gleam. "Knowledge."
Scarlett stares at him in disbelief. "Knowledge? I can hardly give that to you."
"Sure you can. All I need is for you to tell me everything that you know about Tenebris's plan with the captured vampires." He says, leaning closer to her. "That's all I ask."
She scans his face, searching for any sign of trickery, and finds none. She sighs. "Fine, but if you don't follow up on your end of the deal, I will kill you." She takes a deep breath. "Head Seguronous was curious too, about why Tenebris had captured them, so he sent three of our completed trainees to collect any information. The most we have gathered so far is that he's trying to find recruits for his side, the evil side- and he believes that he can convince your kind to join him."
Alex sits in stunned silence, taking it all in, until finally he speaks. "But surely we won't."
"What do you mean surely?" Scarlett narrows her eyes at him. "The leader of your group signed a contract saying that he and his brethren would fight on our side when the time comes."
"Yes, but if he is somehow convinced to change his mind, all he would have to do is tell our clan that we're fighting on the evil side, and we would have no say against it. There would be nothing we can do- we are stuck under the will of our leader." Alex turns, ready to disappear into the city before the sun comes out, but she stops him.
"Alex." She says, hold out her hand. "The satchel."
Alex hands it over, a concerned look still covering his face. "Good day, Scarlett." And then he vanishes.
~~~~~
She jogs through the park, making her way to the street where she parked her motorcycle. She could only ride it for a little bit, and then she would have to leave it in the alley like usual so that she could enter the realm, but it definitely beats walking.
She starts the engine and soon the wind is whipping through her hair as she zips through the silent and empty streets, everyone in bed. She passes by a taxi driver a little to closely and he honks at her, but she ignores him- she doesn't have enough time to fret over the worries of a mortal.
She takes a sharp right into a deserted alleyway, and slows to a stop, clambering off of the bike and wheeling it into an abandoned garage within the bricks. She parks it, ignoring the musty smell of the garage and swatting at the spiderwebs that she accidentally walks through. She steps out, reaching for the top of the garage door and pulling it down to the cracked concrete ground, encasing the motorcycle safely inside.
She then turns and climbs up the wooden fence that forms a dead end for all vehicles and unskilled climbers, swinging one leg over the top, then the next, and then jumping down and landing cat-like on the ground.
She spots the lake a small distance away, and then the woods. The woods was about two minutes closer, but they weren't safe at night, and were likely crawling with wolves, patrolling and howling into the night. She jogs the entire way, for it was late, and the sooner she could get into the realm, the sooner she could go to sleep before training tomorrow.
When she reaches the lake, her black sneakers are immediately covered with sand. She sighs, shaking her head, and reaches into her pocket to retrieve the Stone.
To enter the magical realm, you must be holding onto one of the Stones. The Stone was a magical artifact created by witches for the Elementists, and everyone was given their own. Scarlett's was bright red.
She closes her fingers around it and looks at the water. Even though her power was fire, she had never had a problem with water- she actually quite enjoyed it. Unless, of course, she was dueling someone with water powers- then she hated it with every bone in her body.
She makes sure she was holding on tightly to the Stone, and steps into the water. She turns so that she is facing the shore and opens her arms wide before falling straight backwards into the water, the stone lighting up in her hand, it's glow moving to cover her entire body.
Except she never hit the water.
The air around her shimmers for a moment before coming a different setting. She lands softly on grass that was wet from dew, and she climbs to her feet, brushing herself off, the glow that surrounded her already faded. She had entered the magical realm.
The ankles of her pants were wet from wading into the water, though the rest of her was dry. She casts a carefully placed heat wave down at them, and they dry in an instant.
She was standing in the rolling green lawns of the training center, where every Elementist in the world gathered to train from when they are eight years old to until they turn eighteen. Scarlett and her friends, all of whom were fourteen, had been training and learning here for six years, and they loved every second of it.
In front of her was a large lake, so big that you couldn't see across. To the left were the bunks, where they all slept, and to the right was the training center, with classrooms, dueling arenas, dummies... you name it. And beside the training center, there was the Head's home and office- the very person that she needed to see.
Scarlett clutches the satchel in her fingers tightly and makes her way to the Head's office, shouldering the door open and making her way up the long staircases that lead to his office which, unfortunately for her, was at the very top.
By the time she reaches the door her legs are aching and begging for her to collapse, but she ignores their please and raps hard with her knuckles on his door. A second passes, then two, then three, before the Head opens the door.
Head Seguronous was a kind man in his late fifties, with neat salt and pepper hair and a beard that reached about an inch past his chin, and that too was black with strips of white and gray. His skin was pale, but not in a sickly way. He wore a long purple night robe that had glittering stars sewn in it, and the stars even seemed to twinkle and wink at her. He had soft, understanding, brown eyes and a kind smile, one that made his eyes crinkle in the corners. One that he gave to her now.
"Scarlett! I knew you would succeed- well done." He takes the satchel from her and beckons for her to follow him inside, which she does.
No one was very close with Head Seguronous, due to his own wishes. He did not want to become close to anyone, for right now they were at war with the evil ones, and the last thing he needed was people to be targeted because he cared for them. Scarlett came to his office often, though the most she ever spoke to him about was her missions and her destiny- nothing more, nothing less.
The Head's office was colored red, with a golden accent wall. His polished desk sat in front of a window, and his office chair seemed to touch the clouds. The walls were lined with bookshelves, as well as small displays of trinkets here and there- a golden cup, a shining shield, a glittering diamond necklace, and then a single empty display case that he moves towards.
She watches as he opens the satchel and takes out a silver ring embedded with green stones. He places it inside a glass case for display as Scarlett stares at him in disbelief.
"All of that- all of that, for a ring?" She demands. "A demon found me you know. He was skinny, and ugly, and he had wings, and I killed him, and Alex was being particularly stupid tonight, and it was just for a ring?"
The Head looks at her with old eyes, ones that hold a sad truth behind them. "You will understand the importance of this ring in due time, Scarlett." He sighs, settling down in his armchair. "In the meantime- you have training tomorrow, and I am but an old man who needs to go to sleep. Thank you for completing the mission- you have done well." He smiles at her. "Good night."
Scarlett trudges through the cold night back to her bunk- number 49- and shivers as she opens the door and lets herself in. Unsurprisingly, her two best friends, Allen Finestone and Danny Foxarota, sit in the living room waiting for her.
The living room was always warm- never stuffy, but a comforting warm, one that made you feel safe. There was a bookshelf pushed against one wall filled with books for Scarlett, for hardly any of her other roommates read for fun like she did, and there was a black leather couch, a matching loveseat and chair all facing a TV mounted onto the wall. On the left side of the living room was a hallway that led to Scarlett and her friend Autumn's rooms, and on the right was a hall that led to Allen, Danny, and Nick's rooms. She stops looking around the room and lets her gaze fall on the two boys.
Danny was a boy with dirty blonde hair, golden brown eyes and a kind smile. He was much quieter than Allen, who never seemed to shut up. Danny knew what to say and when to say it, and he always kept to himself when it was time to. He was happy and energetic whenever he was around Scarlett and Allen however, and this was one of those times. His face had broken into a bright, happy smile at the sight of her.
Al, on the other hand, had very dark brown hair that was nearly black, and light green eyes. He had a nicely angled face, with a sharp jawline and nice edges hear and there, but Al- or Allen, though he didn't like Allen much- was always joking around. There was almost never a time when Allen wasn't smiling- he even smiles in his sleep. And when Scarlett went on missions with him, he even joked around with the enemy while he fought them. Al was grinning at her now.
"So, how did it go?" Danny asks.
"Yeah, did you kick some butt?" Allen adds and she grins, dropping down onto the couch.
"No. I fought this demon and Alex was being stubborn, but other than that, not much. And guess what was in the satchel." Scarlett says, looking at the both of them. "Guess."
Danny guesses "A Stone?" at the same time that Allen shouts "A penguin!"
Scarlett just stares at him for a moment, before shaking her head. "No. Not... not a penguin. It was a ring. A ring with green stones embedded into it- and then Head Seguronous said that I will understand the importance of the ring in time." She tosses her hands in the air. "What does he mean by that?"
Allen cuts in. "I have a feeling that he means that you will figure out why it's important in the future."
Scarlett hits him over the head with a pillow. "Well duh. It's a good thing you're here, Al, we were just looking for a replacement for Captain Obvious and I think you'll fit perfectly."
Allen grins and Danny responds instead. "What did you mean then?"
"I meant, what do you think the ring is for?" Scarlett asks, getting up from the couch and wandering over to her bookshelf. "I mean, I'm sure there's a book written about it somewhere, but I might not own it... maybe the book is in the library connected to the training center- I could drop by and check tomorrow before my dueling class..."
Allen groans. "You're getting up and leaving early again?"
Scarlett frowns at him. "Yeah... so?"
"We like to be able to eat breakfast with you in the Dining Hall." Danny says. "But we couldn't this morning, because you left early for another mission, and then now your leaving early tomorrow morning, so we can't eat with you then either."
Scarlett rubs her eyes. "Tell you what- I'll get up at five, got to the library by five-thirty, spend about an hour there and meet you in the Dining Hall at six-thirty."
Allen stares. "The library is open at five in the morning?"
"The only time it's not open is from eight pm until four in the morning." Scarlett responds.
Danny raises an eyebrow. "And you know this how?"
Scarlet shrugs. "Because I've gone to the library at four in the morning before, and I've tried to go at eight thirty but the librarian told me that they were closed." She glances at the large roman numeral clock that was ticking away on the wall- it was eleven o'clock. "I'm going to bed or else I'm going to have no energy to wipe the floor with you two in dueling class tomorrow."
Allen grins. "On second thought, maybe you should stay up later-" He is then interrupted by another pillow being whacked over his head. She makes her way down the left hallway, saying good night to them was she enters it.
She goes into the bathroom first, for she needed to take a shower before bed. She flips the light on, shutting the door and opening the shower curtain. Setting out a towel, she glances at her reflection in the mirror.
Scarlett's looks often modeled her powers. Very red. She had curly red hair that she kept neat and tame, much unlike the girl Merida from the Disney movie that Danny loved. Her hair fell in long, spiraling curls, down to about her elbows. Her skin was tan with a natural pink in her cheeks and she had a few freckles around her nose, but not many. She had brown eyes the color of the ground and pink lips that were over a set of white teeth. She sighs, and gets in the shower and readies herself for bed.
~~~~~
When Scarlett awoke the next morning, the sun hadn't even reached the hilltops yet- it was still a little dark, with the smallest bit of light possible and only a few stars remaining in the sky.
Scarlett gets up from her bed, glancing over at the sleeping girl at the other end of the room, Autumn. The girls shared one large bedroom, and the boys did the same. Scarlett's side had bookshelves everywhere, a reading chair, her bed and dresser, and a nightstand with this really cool lamp that she had made herself and it ran solely on her magic. Her bedspread was purple to match Autumn's. Autumn's side was covered with sporty things and different teams that she practically worshipped.
Scarlett creeps over to her dresser and closet, pulling out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that says "After all this time?" "Always."
She loved Harry Potter.
She then pulls on the black sneakers she had worn on her mission the day before, wiping away an extra sand that had been left over from the beach. She looks at her reflection in her long mirror mounted on the wall, tightens the ponytail she had put her hair in the night before, and then turns away happily. She grabs her bag, which holds her books, pencils, and her change of clothes for her combat classes, and heads out.
A rush of cold air hits her when she steps out onto the porch, and she shuts the door behind her, shivering. She pulls a black jacket over her white t-shirt and shoulders her bag, hurrying down the steps onto the wet lawn. Across the lawns, near the training center, the library's lights are on, casting a yellow light onto the dark ground.
She always felt safe here at the training center, maybe because she was. The training center had magic that protected her as well as the other Elementists in training from all of the evil things, but as soon as they left on a mission the protective magic was gone. They all frequently left for missions, and Scarlett probably left the most, which wasn't the brightest idea, figuring that Tenebris was always on the lookout for her. As soon as he killed Scarlett, the world would be messed up and ruined for the balance will be upset, and left in his hands. It was a terrible thought.
She jogs down to the library, her breath coming out in puffs against the cold air- it was nearing the end of September now, and it was starting to get cold. She zips up her jacket, and blow hot air onto her cold fingers. She opens the library door, and the warmth from the inside of the room floods towards her, instantly warming her face, though her fingertips are still cold.
She shuts the door behind her and pulls off her jacket and bag, setting them on an empty chair and looping the bag strap over the top of it.She then turns to face the still empty library.
The library at the training center was one of the largest libraries in the magical world. The walls are lined with bookshelves that nearly reach the top of the ceiling, with books standing up top for decoration. Then there were long rows of books, sorted by genre and filled to the brim with books- factual books, stories, legends, you name it. It even held a few mortal books.
The row with the mortal books might be her favorite aisle in the entire library- it has all of her favorite books. Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson... some of her friends say that it's kind of weird that she likes those books so much, as they are the mortal's stories, but that doesn't bother her-they all like something that the mortals have.
Allen loves their TV shows. Danny loves their cars and motorcycles- pretty much all of their vehicles. Autumn loves their sports, though they have pretty much the same sports as they do. Nick loves their girls.
"How can you love their girls?" Scarlett had asked him when they were discussing it one hot afternoon. "They look exactly the same as we do."
Nick shrugged. "But you guys are more hardcore than them- they're innocent."
"Plenty of girl Elementists are 'innocent'." Autumn demands. "Like me."
"And me." Scarlett adds, but they all look at her.
Nick stares at her. "You are far from innocent."
"Well thanks. That makes me feels so great." Scarlett scoffs, but Al and Danny grin at her.
"Don't worry Scarlett- you might not be the most innocent, but you are definitely the most hardcore." Danny says, making her smile.
Al adds "Yeah, you're a real butt-kicker."
She thinks about her best friends now as she walks up and down the factual aisle, anticipating meeting them later in the morning, hopefully with some information to tell them regarding the ring.
She spots a section titled 'Magical Artifacts of History' and decides that it's a good place to start. She grabs a book off of the shelf, and then another, and soon she is walking briskly out of the aisle with a stack of books all of the way up to her forehead, blocking her eyes from seeing what's in front of her.
Eventually, just before she reaches her chair, she stumbles and trips, her side falling onto the corner of a table. She drops the books and grabs her side, groaning and doing this stupid little dance in pain. She finally lets go of her side and bends to pick up the books.
She gathers them up into her arms and deposits them on the clean table, grabbing the top one off and taking out a notebook to write notes down. The first page of the random book she started with was more of an introduction than anything.
Magical Artifacts of History-Chapter One-Explanation-Page One
As many people know, we Elementists are much different than the mortals that lie in their own world right with ours. We associate with vampires, demons, werewolves, monsters, all of the sort, they associate with French fries and chocolate milkshakes, forever living in mystery of the secret lives we live.
We are here, protecting their world as well as our own from evil, and they don't even know about it. They have no idea that among them walk people who hold powers, people who are training before fighting the ever raging war against evil.
To help us, we have received many magical artifacts over the years, all being made from other beings- vampires, witches, warlocks, and the like. They have given us artifacts that we would be lost without, even though many of them fight against us in the war. This book is about all of the artifacts we have received over the years, and what they do to help us.
Scarlett smiles to herself- this has to be it. The book said itself it would tell of all of the magical artifacts that the Elementists had received over the years, and the ring was certainly special, and likely held strong power. Why else would Head Seguronous try so hard to ensure that it was safe?
It was extremely hard to find the right page in the book for multiple reasons. One, the book had many interesting pages that she would stop and read, for she was drawn to the pictures and flashes of sentences that she saw. Two, though the book was in alphabetical order, that didn't help her situation for she didn't even know the name of the ring.
She finally found it under the 'T' section.
The Ring of Power
Crafted and constructed in 1765, this ring was given to the Elementists from the Chief Warlock, Isidro Allaway, who has been in fact noted for his many ingenious ideas and inventions, and was placed under the care of the descendants of Head Seguronous, and was to be used only accordingly to the prophecy, which states that it was only to be used by the last fire Elementist, known as Scarlett Cooper.
She sucks in a breath after reading those words. People had known for years that Scarlett was to be the last of the fire group, and Scarlett herself had been preparing her entire life for the moment when she had to fight Tenebris, if it ever came down to that.
Both of her parents had once been part of the fire group, along with her brother, Caleb. Caleb was killed a week after his birthday, and both of her parents had slipped into a deep depression. Though they eventually came back to her, Scarlett noticed that their depression and lack of magic use had caused them to lose the ability to perform it.
Scarlett, on the other hand, had handled the loss a different way.
She had trained harder than ever before, and though she was just a kid, her talents soared as she spent hours in the training room, practicing, and even more hours in the library, learning as much as she could. She needed to be the one to destroy Tenebris and bring peace to the world at last- even if it meant she had to lose her own life.
It was a lot of pressure to put on a fourteen year old, but Scarlett had long since proven that she could handle it. She went on endless missions to help the world, to save it. She had rescued people from Tenebris's lair herself, and she had, in fact, grown up with the constant pressure of the world being held on her shoulders. She had to make sure she didn't die.
Before she could start reading again, the librarian stalks over and slides the book away from her.
"And what exactly do you think you're doing?" She asks, the book clutched in her fingers and her arms crossed. "This book was off limits."
Scarlett frowns, turning to look at the aisle that she had retrieved the book from. "What? No it-" But she falters to a stop as her eyes rest on the red sign that clearly said that the aisle was off limits to anyone that was younger than fifteen- and that included Scarlett.
She turns back to the librarian, who was glaring at her. "Please. You have to let me finish the page I was on- I was just about to figure something out."
"Oh really? It looked to me as if you were just staring off into space."
Scarlett's face burns crimson and she scowls. "I was thinking. Please- I was about to find out what the ring I had retrieved on a mission last night was used for."
The librarians face fills with alarm. "You retrieved the Ring of Power?"
"I think so?"
She holds a hand to her heart. "Did you steal it back from the vampires?"
Scarlett raises an eyebrow. "Steal it? No. I'm somewhat friends with one of the vampires- I did a deal with him. And what does it matter anyway? I just want to know what it does-" She lunges for the book, but the librarian moves out of her reach, clutching the book to her chest and her fingers wrapped tightly around the leather cover.
"Did you deliver the ring to the Head?"
"Yes."
"Did he tell you what it did?"
Scarlett frowns. "Obviously not."
The librarian's eyes narrow at that. "I doubt he meant for you to go looking in a section of the library that is restricted to people your age if he didn't tell you what it was- I'm sure you'll learn when the time is right. Now, in the meantime, shoo. Go eat breakfast or something."
Reluctantly, Scarlett packs her things up and returns all of the books onto their shelves, making sure to put them all in upside down and backwards just to bother the librarian. Then she shoulders her jacket on and stalks out.
So there we go! The first chapter is done!
I have to say I'm really excited about this book, it seems very promising so far. However I'm not completely sure if you guys understood what was going on or not. Please let me know in the comments if everything was clear or if I need to go back and straighten a few things out for clarification.
Anyways, these little black parts will be used only for information regarding the story and some clarification if any is needed.
So the basic idea of this book is that outside of the mortal realm there is a magical realm, filled with beasts and vampires and people who can do magic. These people control all of the elements and are known as Elementists. They keep the world safe, together and orderly. If one group was to die out, then the balance would be upset and the world would be left in the hands of the evil, which we do not want to happen.
Knowing this, the evil ones, led by a man known as Tenebris, search for all of the members of the most skilled, powerful, and small group that there is. The fire group. Tenebris took a potion to ensure that his life lasts two hundred more years than it was going to originally, and it ensured that he could have enough time to rule the world.
Soon, the fire group is almost gone, except for a girl named Scarlett Cooper who is now destined to save the world. She is almost always hunted by Tenebris, but is kept safe inside of the training academy that all Elementists attend from ages eight to eighteen. She does missions whilst training for the Head Seguronous, who is in charge of all things good.
She retrieves a ring that will be used for... something. Scarlett has to wait to find out, so I'm going to make you wait too.
Please let me know if this chapter (not counting the clarification in bold) was clear enough and made sense, and please, stick around- there are more chapters in this book to come, I promise.
Thank you for reading, and have yourself a good day I guess.
