Chapter 23
The next day, Sylvie woke to a rising sun and clean clothes folded on a chair in the corner of the room. She changed into white leggings, black boots, a loose black skirt and a form fitting black top. The clothes were made of comfortable material and really easy to move in. Following the route on the note that was left on top of the clothes, she admired the scenery of the place. The land was like a desert, but with red sand and the climate was perfect, not too hot and not too cold.
Children were playing, young teens were training for combat and adults hustled about their work. Sylvie waved back to several of the older teens that had asked her to dance last evening. It was different getting all of this attention, even unwanted attention. She could not decide if she liked it or not. Squinting ahead, she saw the landing bay and saw Ajax, Shekira, and Jinx standing there with Jara and Siron.
Shekira wore a similar outfit, except it was brown and she wore a top that left her shoulders and stomach bare.
"Look who decided to get up," Ajax smirked.
"Ha ha, shut up," Sylvie said flatly.
"We were just talking about you," Siron told her.
I just hope it was all good things, Sylvie thought, looking from one person to the next.
"We're planning to take off, we have partied long enough. There's another meeting with the Forces and we need to reach the space station before we head off to Puldora," Jara explained.
"We're just wondering if you would rather stay here or come with us," Jinx finished.
Sylvie took this to consideration and then answered, "I'll go wherever Ajax goes."
She saw Ajax's eyes widen and he looked at her with a questioning expression on his face.
"Alright then, let's be on our way," Siron ordered.
Before Sylvie knew it, she had said farewell to KiKi and was again, traveling through space. She followed Ajax around like a puppy and he never said a word, though she could tell he wanted to speak.
Arriving at the space station a few hours later, guards dressed in professional uniforms marched around the corridors and well dressed men and women of all different species hustled about. The group was led to a chamber where several men and women stood at a table with holographic plans floating on top of it. Some were dressed wealthy, and others wore fighting gear and high tech armor. Ajax and Sylvie were surprised to see that a human man stood among them.
He looked from the plans at them; interest gleamed in his blue eyes. Sylvie guessed he was a fighter seeing he wore a gun at his side and protective clothing.
"Welcome back General Shekira," he smiled.
"It's good to be back. Now, what is the situation?" Shekira responded in her professional tone while leaning against the table. Her eyes scanned over the plans.
"Our undercover base on the winter planet has found the enemy base and it appears to have found our base as well; we are ready to stage an attack. The plans for the weapon are hidden in four sectors, and we found three of the planets that hold the plans, and one of them include Hiems," an middle-aged alien man, dressed in fancy robes informed.
"We're planning on sending two nominated generals to the attack on Hiems, and we'll send one general each to the covert missions on stealing the plans. We will be listening to the updates here, and we'll tell the head counselor in return," a young alien woman, wearing a beautiful gown added.
"We are on our way to Puldora as we speak, we shall inform King Cornel and Queen Darcy once we arrive?" Jara offered.
"I'm sorry to stop your travel, but currently, Puldora is currently being invaded. King Cornel and Queen Darcy are fleeing as we speak," the young alien woman updated.
"Then why won't you send back up?" Ajax asked.
The council appeared to have just noticed Ajax, for he had been standing next to Sylvie in the corner.
"We haven't a general nor the time to save Puldora currently. We must focus on destroying the weapon the enemy are building before we take back any planets," the middle-aged alien man answered.
"Then I'll go," Ajax volunteered, stepping forward so everyone could see him.
"Young man, it is good to see such spirit, but what you are asking to do is a suicide mission. Besides, you are no general and we don't know your battle experience," the human man told him.
"Risks are what I do best," Ajax retorted.
"I will have you know that this is the young man who helped save me from the pirates, and while I hate to agree with him, he's right. His skill in situations of high risks are impressive. His luck is out of this galaxy," Shekira interrupted.
The council began discussing this while Jinx walked over to them, mumbling, "I do not understand why this is such a big fuss. I know you are just going to go, regardless if you have permission or not."
"Yeah, but I won't be able to access the information I need about this invasion from the archives without their permission," Ajax frowned.
"That's why I'm here," Jinx stood up and took his old position against the wall.
To Ajax's surprise, they agreed with his idea and granted him permission to bring a squadron and access the archives.
Sylvie sat through this whole meeting with a blank face. What weapon? What war? What in the world are these people talking about? she wondered as they continued on to the nominations. Shekira and another young alien woman named Errine, were voted to launch the attack on Hiems. The human man, named Kyris Infinity, and another bald, egg-headed alien, named Knoll, were voted to take on the other missions. The meeting was dismissed and Sylvie, completely confused, went to Jara for some answers to her questions.
"Ah, you are an Earthling my dear, I understand why you do not know," Jara smiled and gestured for her to sit in the cushioned seat next to her.
Sylvie sat down and waited eagerly to hear what this war was all about.
"The war started about twenty years ago, when the humans were undergoing persecution. As you probably know by now, humans used to be the dominant species, and now their numbers have decreased rapidly due to unjust killing camps. But, humans were not the only species to fall subject to these camps.
"There is a species called, umaros. They look just like humans, except they are known to be more handsome than humans. They have perfect skin, perfect hair, and their ears are slightly pointed. The aliens that revolted could not tell the difference between a umaros and a human and brought their species to the camps and killed them off. The Forces, the organisation we are in, put an end to the slaughter. Umaroi now wants revenge on the humans for causing the start of these camps and for the many innocent deaths of their kind."
"But, many innocent humans also died, don't they understand that?" Sylvie asked, her curiosity growing.
"They are driven by anger and hatred, it blinds them from reason. Of course, there are some of their kind that are peaceful, but the majority wanted war. They began to try their best to destroy Earth."
Sylvie felt her interest sink and fear replaced it, "What?"
"The Earth has been in danger for twenty years, we have been fighting constantly to keep it safe. No one dares fly near that planet for fear of getting caught up in the crossfire of war. Humans down on Earth do not realize how many lives had died to keep them living in harmony."
Sylvie's fear was replaced by shock and guilt.
"Our spies found out that the enemy has a weapon that can destroy a planet. We are planning on stealing its plans so they can not finish it."
"But, what if they finished it?" Sylvie asked, her voice trembling.
"We will put every effort to destroy it."
Sylvie leaned back into her seat; again, this was too much information to take in. Every day out in this part of the galaxy, something new and different happened. And now, she has found out that her home has been in danger of being blown up for longer than she has been alive!
"Now, they have taken over the peaceful planet of Puldora, where humans rule as king and queen."
At least it makes sense why these aliens have raided that planet, Sylvie thought.
