Welcome Home

The throbbing of her poor abused tail was still bothering her when they made it to the top floor which was rather an annoying walk alone. Her guide lived on the first floor, and his leg did not take kindly to the long walk up.

"I had hoped she would be in the common room by now." He shrugged after showing her that very room only to discover it was fairly empty.

"Does anyone live here?" She said confused at the empty sofa, wicker chairs and the table with scattered papers. One mage light already lit in the room, confirming the sun was setting.

"There's plenty of people, but most are on adventures. You'll see that most of the tenets of this building are too busy to stay very long, but it makes it a peaceful place when you do want to relax. The kitchens on the right past those big doors, and on the left is a hallway to the downstairs rooms. Obviously, that staircase right in front of you goes to the upstairs. Your room going to be on the top floor at the far end of the hall on the right near the little window at the end. "

"Thank you." She wasn't entirely sure she liked that he explained what the staircase did for her. Should she be insulted?

"Don't you have any luggage at all? Any trunks you brought with you? I could have them sent for ."

"No, just what I have on me."

The bearded man made a concerned face.

"Well that's no good those clothes are going to get torn and dirty with training, I'll see what I can do to get you some spare clothes and maybe an odd job or two to help you out."

"Thank you." She said embarrassed. She remembered the ugly brown dress in her rucksack the vendor lady had given her and realized she might not be able to ditch it after all.

"What about washing my clothes? Is there a river nearby?"

"A river? " He had a blank look for a minute and then he laughed. " We have plumbing . When you need to clean your clothes just ask me or one of your roommates and we'll show you the ropes. This is a city that's being built up by geniuses and magicians. We have conveniences you won't find on the outskirts." He seemed to be beaming with pride talking in such a way about the city he lived in. She didn't understand what was wrong with the river though. Nature gave you everything you wanted.

Sirina made her way up the stairs, somehow more exhausted from the stair climb than the rest of the day all together.

Tiny magic lights lit the hall their cool blue soft glow welcoming after a day of golden and red heat. Sure enough, the glimmers of the lights in the city were visible from a window at the end of the hallway, and there was a door on the right next to it. She wandered over to it and knocked.

The doorway opened after a minute and an almost terrifyingly excited girl opened the door the light from the room spilling out into the hallway like golden milk. Sirina blinked as the girl made a screeching noise and hugged her right away.

"Oh my goodness! Are you the new roommate?! I heard I was getting one but I didn't know it was today!"

This must be Laura.

Sirina looked at the girl with a weak smile her eyes slowly blinking and her thoughts heavy with the need to sleep.

"Well come on in I'll show you to your bed!"

The room was packed, every nook and cranny filled with clothing, trunks, armor, weapons, and books. The room was a small one for four women, the four beds (small twin sized ones ), two on one side of the room against one wall, and two more on the other side decided by the center of the room which was directly in front of the entrance. Sirina couldn't help but notice that to her dismay each bed looked more like a storage shelf than a sleeping space.

Laura in no time jumped to one of the beds on her left though and cleared it and it's small surrounding area as fast as she could.

" I'm so sorry! I really didn't know you were coming today and everyone else is gone for the week!" The now-cleared bed had a wrinkled wool blanket that was green with brown stripes. Sirina tossed her pack at the foot of the bed and took no time at all throwing herself down on it. It had a firm mattress but it felt like heaven after the trip.

"Ugh" She explained in a mutated gurgle of relief, the pillow absorbing her face.

"If you think that's comfortable now give it another week."

"You don't think these beds are comfortable?"

"I think my bed is a cloud." Confused sirina didn't question any further.

Little did she know just how right Laura was.

Writers Note:

This is probably the most uneventful and short chapter I've ever written, but I'm going to keep the chapters a bit shorter for now on I think since most people read on their phones it's a bit easier to keep track of where you are that way. What do you think? Since this is the first draft I can worry more about chapter length consistency Later XD .

Months later:

Huh Yeah, Also I should actually start writing again .
