Robert turned when he heard Sandy yell.

He saw the open door to the house.

Again he heard Sandy yelling to her Mom.

He was unsure of what to do.

Should he leave before finding out if the dream was true and face the possibility that he would live the rest of his life with an emptiness inside of him?

Ans empty space where answers should be.

Or should he stay and face the possibility that it had all just been a dream? Could he handle that embarrassment?

He took a deep breath.

There was only one choice.

Even though he longed to find the answers, he couldn't stay. Even though he had searched for months trying to find Vickie and now, the chance that she was mere feet from him ...

He couldn't stay.

To him, it had only been a matter of months since he had last seen Vickie, but for her, twenty years had passed.

He was slowly putting the pieces of his life back together, while she had built an entire lifetime. An entire lifetime that had never included him.

Was it in him to possibly ruin her life?

Was he that unselfish?

Were his wants and needs more than others?

No. They were not.

Robert turned quickly and ran back to the limousine.

"Back to the hotel," he yelled at the driver, as he closed the door.

The driver pulled into a driveway, backed out and started off down Holland Drive.

Robert turned and looked out the rear window. He could see Sandy and another woman appear from inside the house.

Sandy was jumping up and down, waving her arms.

"Stop," Robert yelled.

The limousine screeched to a halt.

Sandy ran into the street.

"I can't," Robert whispered.

"Drive on."

Once again the limousine started off down the street.

Sandy's mom joined her in the street.

"Your friend seems to be in an awful hurry."

Sandy turned to her mom, shaking her head.

"Actually it was you he wanted to see."

"Me? Why on earth would he want to see me?"

Sandy shrugged.

"I don't know, mom. I was at the concert and he called me on stage."

"Really?"

"Yea. He thought I was you. He said he knew you and he knew Auntie She. He wanted to see you. He said he needed to talk to you."

"That is so strange. Who was this man?"

"Robert Bowman."

Sandy looked at her mom.

"He knew your name was Vickie."

Vickie showed no familiarity with the name.

"Do you know him Mom?"

"No, my love. He must have had me mistaken with someone else."

She put her arms around her daughter and gave her a huge hug.

"Have I told you lately how much I love you?"

Sandy hugged her back.

"I love you, Mom."

"Come on," Vickie urged, taking her daughter's hand. "Let's go inside. It is getting late and besides, the neighbours are stating to watch."

The two women walked inside the house. Before closing the door, Vickie looked back down the street. She could see the brake lights of the limousine.

Sandy had not noticed the car had stopped again, but Vickie had.

Slowly it began backing up the street.

"Its not time, Robert," she whispered, as she closed the door and turned out the outside light.

She looked through the darkened window.

The limousine stopped and a door opened. A man stepped outside and looked toward the house.

Vickie wiped a tear from her eye.

"No yet, Robert."

The man got back into the limousine and the car slowly drove away.

Vickie watched until the lights disappeared, as the limousine turned onto the main street again.

"Goodbye, Robert," she whispered.
