Chapter 6
Lilith's POV
"Come on, Amycus is waiting for you."
I walk Ginny and Neville until we reach a bit oaky door. I knock and steps are heard, coming from the other side. Amycus peeks outside and looks down at me.
"Oh, Bea! Bring them in, bring them in." He sounds excited, which isn't good. "Take them to the room."
I put my hands on their backs and push them forward, finding an opportunity to warn them. They don't know the real me but I don't want them to get hurt. I'm not mean.
At least that's what I tell myself.
"If you too want to get out it here alive, you'll do what I say." I whisper next to their ears. "And don't question me, just do it!"
They nod, slightly scared. I would be as well if I were them. They crossed the line and shouldn't have done it.
"And don't forget to meet me after the punishment. I'll help you with the wounds."
They look back at me, their eyes wide with fear and wet with tears. I nod at their trembling heads and open the door. The room is one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen.
The walls are filled with daggers, swords, bows and arrows. I saw it when Amycus and I were patrolling the walls last night, but never thought he would use it.
His voice comes from the other room.
"Are my little students ready for their detention?" He smirks as he closes the door and locks it. "You'll remember this forever, I promise."
I gulp, raising my hands to make him reconsider. I can't let this happen to them!
"Is this really necessary, Amycus?" I ask, and he answers with a deep scowl.
"Of course! These students need to learn not to disrespect us!"
Amycus grabs one of the daggers and points it at Ginny. This is my brother's crush after all! I have to save them.
"Hey, why can't we just let them go and if they repeat it you can punish them?"
Amycus eyes me up and down, stopping at my eyes. He realized I'm serious about all this.
"You can't be serious! They disrespected me! The authority here! And I don't want that to happen again, and I can promise you it won't." He raises his voice at the end of his speech. "I thought you were better than that!"
"I'm not mean." I walk to him, forgetting the two scared Gryffindors behind us. "I never wanted this life! You and every other Death Eater took my freedom and happiness away when you decided to mark me! I never asked for this, so if I can do anything to help them I will! Don't expect me to betray my own friends."
"Don't talk to me like that, you filthy Po-Beatrice!" He realized his mistake and backs away. "Now lock them inside the box, or you'll be very sorry."
His eyes darken with the evil thoughts in his mind, he's probably thinking about ways to punish me. I stand tall in front of him, looking up at his face with no emotion showing on my face. He shakes his head and pats my head as he walks to Ginny and Neville.
"She's just being sentimental. It's her first year as a teacher so she's a little inexperienced." He eyes me with pure malice. "She'll wait outside to guide you back to your dorms."
He pushes me outside the room and locks the door right on my face. I have to say, he's braver than I thought. I walk back and forth outside his special room, waiting for any sign. Screams, voices, whatever... But nothing comes from inside the room. Amycus... He used that spell again.
"Oh god, what am I supposed to do now?" I run my hands through my hair and think. "McGonagall! That's it!"
I run out of the room and into the dark corridors. Being a teacher here gives me a lot of privileges. I pass by a few Death Eaters and they just nod at me. Nothing like the past two years.
I bang my fists on her door, almost shouting her name. She takes her time opening the door, and when she finally does, I open it and run inside, quickly closing the door and pulling her with me.
"Miss Carrow, what are you doing here?" She sound a little offended, searching for a jacket. "Do you know what time it is or are Death Eaters too busy to check the time?"
"I'm sorry, Professor, but this is too urgent and I couldn't wait." I wave my hands in the air as I speak. "And please don't call me that, it's an embarrassment."
"Why would it be an embarrassment? It's your name after all."
"No it isn't." I sigh. "I'm sorry but this was the only way to help everyone and keep the Death Eaters away from those I love."
McGonagall shoots me a confused look and I sigh once again, taking my wand out of my pocket and waving it in front of my body. I feel the usual warmth on my toes and nose, signaling my changes. I close my eyes as my hair turn black, waiting for her reaction. I pull my hair back into a ponytail and reopen my eyes, locking them on her.
"I'm sorry." I apologize, my voice coming back normal, finally. The old me is back. I have to tell someone or I'll explode, "I've been hiding here to protect everyone from those evil creatures,"
"Lilith..." McGonagall stutters. "Upside really one of them."
"No I'm not! I'm not mean!" I grab her hands with mine and shake my head. "I'm trying to help!"
"And how do you plan on doing it?"
"I'm not sure yet. But the fact that I came here to warn you shows I'm not evil." She opens her mouth but I cut her with my next words. "Amycus is probably torturing them now, we have to hurry!"
"What? Amycus? Who's he torturing? Speak Potter!"
"Ginny and Neville are with him, he's using his 'special room' as he calls it. It's full of weapons and I'm afraid he'll hit them."
McGonagall sighs and sits on her bed, leaning her head on her hand.
"There's nothing we can do. The Dark Lord has this school in the middle of his hands, he and his followers do whatever they want with it and the students. I can't stop them."
"Bu-but... They're my friends, I can't let this happen."
She looks me dead in the eyes, an emotions I've never seen on her flashes across her eyes.
"Lilith, I believe you when you say you're not evil, but no one else will. They're convinced you killed Dumbledore and that you're with... Them."
"I killed Dumbledore." She gasps. "But they're wrong, Professor, I did it because I had no choice. And I'll do everything I can to save my friends."
I leave the door open and I hear her words clearly.
I'll see what I can do.
So she'll help. Good.
I transform back and rub to Amycus, ready to throw his head against the wall. But when I get there, Neville and Ginny are the only ones I find, their current state bringing tears to my face.
Ginny's hands are bloody, holding her stomach and leaning on Neville for support, who's looking as bad as her. I grab her shoulders before she falls back, Neville's strength long gone. He too falls back but holds himself up by grabbing the wall.
"What did he do to you?"
They look up at me for the first time, their faces were hidden by their hair before. They open their eyes and take a deep breath after looking at me.
"I'm sorry, Professor, but this is our fault." Ginny says in a small voice. "We deserved this."
Neville nods by her side, taking a few glances at the open door behind me. I guide them out the door and around the corridors, afraid to let them go. The portrait that guards the Gryffindor Tower is still there, but I remember its happiness. Not anymore.
Ginny and Neville enter and I wait for them to speak, not knowing if they want me to get in. I'm probably not invited.
"Okay guys. See you tomorrow." I turn to leave when a small hand grabs my arm and spins me around. Two pairs of arms engulf me in a tight hug.
"We don't know who you are or why you helped us, but we owe you our lives. Carrow stopped sooner than he expected because some other teacher called him saying Snape wanted to see him. We know you had something to do with that." Ginny smiles. "Thank you."
"Yeah, thank you." Neville bows his head.
"You may not know who I am, but I'll always be here to protect you."
I start to walk away when Ginny's voice interrupts me.
"Why?"
"Because you do know me." I smirk and leave.
The door to my room is slightly open and I point my wand at it before entering. Before I can protect myself from my opponent, she has me on my knees, my wand flying away.
"Little Miss Potter thought she could help her friends." Alecto, Amycus' real sister sneers. "You'll pay for talking back to my brother, bitch."
She slaps me and I don't remember fighting back.
It's not worth it.
