The greater danger
Akileshwar sat down and stared into space. What the Lingamputra had said startled him.
'Um.. ' A voice was heard and Akileshwar glanced up to see the Asuran who was with him earlier.
'Queen Kali requests for you' Akileshwar nodded and started to the infirmary. He opened the doors and saw it was very white and bright. Unlike the inside which was a brown dim.
'You requested for me, Queen Kali?' Asked Akileshwar. She nodded weakly and signaled for him to come near her.
'Have you learnt the truth?' She asked. Akileshwar guessed she was talking about the truth of the Asurans and nodded.
'One Lingamputra told me'
Kali nodded and coughed up blood.
'You need to rest' Said Akileshwar. But Kali just smiled.
'Ask away' She said confusing Akileshwar. Realization dawned on him. But he wondered how? Weren't the Asurans dim-witted people?
'Why do you believe in Paramatma?'
'Why do you want to know?'
'I want to know, because your civilization has failed under the religious matters of the Paramatma. How can you still worship him?'
Kali was about to say something, but chose against it. 'We refuse to believe in other gods, as if we put our lives in their hands, it's not a guarantee they will save us. Lord Rudra was exceptional. But it is not a guarantee'
Akileshwar forgot about the hesitation for a moment. 'That's what I told the Lingamputra. He just said that the people chosen will be worthy and.. ' Akileshwar stopped in the last part. I trust you will do well.
'And what?'
'I- I. Nothing' Sighed Akileshwar.
Then Akileshwar remembered her hesitation. 'You were going to tell me something else. What is it?'
Kali smiled. She turned to the nurse in the room. 'Leave us'
They left and Kali turned to Akileshwar. 'The Asurans are not dying only because of the people trying to kill us. There is a much bigger play here'
'What?'
'Yes. Did you listen to Lord Rudra's last law?'
Akileshwar suddenly felt guilty.
'It's ok. Back on to topic, the law was to not harm the Asurans. But before the law he had gone to meet the pandit of the Vishnu temple in the center of Kalinga. After returning, he had been kind to people worthy of achieving something and continuously tortured himself'
'Where are you going with this?'
'Lord Rudra discovered something no one knew about that day. He discovered, the Asuraksha'
'Asuraksha?' Echoed Akileshwar. This was a new term to him.
'Yes. The Asuraksha means the savior of Asurans. And he will come from Kalinga. The Lingamputra believes, that you will be the Asuraksha'
Akilehswar looked at Kali shocked, that she knew about their conversation.
'But how could I be the Asuraksha?! I'm the one who destroyed half your tribe. I have done no such deeds to earn the title. Besides, what's so great about an Asuraksha who will just stop the people from harming you. It does not seem like an important job'
'Like I said, there are bigger forces at play here. Do you know why we are called Asurans and not Asura?'
Akileshwar did not know of this.
'In Sanskrit, a word ending with n, declares that you are the original word's subject.. '
Realization dawned on Akileshwar.
'Yes. We are merely subjects to a much bigger force. The Asuras'
'But how does that have anything to do with your people dying?'
'Asuras are demons, true enemies of god. And god is divine. With infinite power. If a demon shall be it's rival-'
'It will be the same' Finished Akileshwar.
'-Asuras devour people for their power. The blood running through their veins contain molecules of energy needed to strengthen the Asura. And, the Asura chooses my people to devour'
Akileshwar was horrified. Was this his job? Defeat the Asura?
'Maybe. Only time will tell. But we cannot jump into the adventure just yet. Only the Lingamputras and me know of the decision they have taken to choose you as the Asuraksha'
Akileshwar nodded.
'If you are merely his subjects, then why do people consider you Asurans? How do they know you are his subjects?'
'We are not born normal. Our birth is created from the rage of the Asura. From the circle of life. Recently, the Asura stole it from lord Indra. No one except us, the Asurans know what he is doing with it'
Akileshwar nodded, beckoning her to continue.
'The Asura has been trying to destroy the circle of life, but ends up creating a new specimen-'
'-Asurans' Finished Akileshwar once again.
'Correct. But first we need to talk to the Lingamputras whether they have accepted the decision. And whether my people will allow this'
Akileshwar nodded.
'Where is the circle of life?' He asked.
'Behind the Asura. Wherever he goes the circle of life follows'
Akileshwar nodded. But on the inside he was terrified. He was beginning to think he should have stayed with his tribe.
'How did the Asura retrieve the circle of life in the first place? Isn't Indra himself guarding it? I do not see how the king of the gods could be escaped of theft'
Legend dictated that Lord Brahma had created the circle of life and given it to Indra to protect. Indra was the king of the gods. Akileshwar was sure that he would not give up the circle of life easily.
'I do not know how. But it has occurred. And someone must retrieve it to save India'
Akileshwar nodded and left, beckoning for the nurses who were waiting outside to go back in. He sighed as he stared into space. The random proclamation stored to him had shaken him up. Was the Asuraksha even a thing? Or was this a trick?
But something told him that he was finally discovering his meaning. His purpose. He decided that he would go along with it. He was a warrior. And no warrior would turn down a chance to prove himself. He would perform his duties as Asuraksha, if he ever had any.
He put on a determined expression. He was now the Asuraksha.
