The Visions
"I win!!" Sophie said as she stopped her horse in front of her house, and Ally and Hero followed her. That day Sophie invited her friends to go for a peaceful ride through the kingdoms, but then Hero decided that a race would be more fun. So they raced from the Center Kingdom all the way back to Sophie's house.
"That's no fair. I want a rematch, you got a head start." Ally said.
"Maybe some other time, my dad has me doing barn chores today, and my mom wants me to practice my sword fighting. So I'm going to have to leave." Hero said. "But I had fun, see you guys later."
"Wait...wait for me." Ruby said riding up to them. "You are all incredibly fast, and why didn't you guys invite me?"
"Because you have to run a kingdom now." Hero said.
"No I don't. That was yesterday." Ruby said.
"I am so confused, you said you were becoming queen." Sophie said.
"Yeah, Queen for a day."
"What?!" They said.
"Yeah, my parents wanted to see how I would do if I was Queen, so they made me Queen for the Day." Ruby explained.
"You could have said that." Sophie said.
"I did, I said I was becoming Queen, because my parents thought I was ready."
"Yeah, but you never said for the day part." Hero said.
"Come on guys, do you seriously think my dad is ready to give the kingdom over to me?" Ruby said. "I did terrible yesterday."
"Yeah that's what confused me." Ally said. "My parents are giving me the kingdom when I have a family of my own, and know I'm ready."
"I seriously don't know when mine are giving me the kingdom." Ruby said.
"Well, I'll see you guys later." Hero said and rode off.
"So do you guys want to come inside for some cookies? I think my Mom, Dad and Cody made some."
"Sounds good, I'm starving." Ruby said. They dismounted their horses and put them in the barn. While Sophie was taking her saddle off her horse, she instantly dropped it and had sort of a vision and stood blankly into space. Ruby and Ally saw her and ran over to her, and tried to snap her out of it. In a few seconds, she was back to normal.
"Oh my God, are you ok?" Ally asked.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." Sophie said.
"What happened?" Ruby asked.
"I had like some sort of vision. It was weird, I was in some sort of room, filled wall to wall with potions and in the middle of the room was this book."
"What did the book look like?" Ruby asked.
"It was opened and it had sort of a fuzzy picture, but it looked like my parents holding a baby." Sophie explained.
"Come on, we should go tell your parents." Ally said.
"No it's fine. I want to handle this one my own, it's not that bad right now. If there's a third I'll tell them."
"This was the second time. What was the first?" Ruby asked.
"It was sort of similar, but I was in a forest in front of a huge mansion. I kind of knew where it was. It looked like it was on the border of the Elf Empire."
"Ok, Sophie promise me you'll tell your parents when a third one arrives." Ally said.
"I will don't worry. Now let's get inside, I'm starving."
Inside the house, Cody was on the table eating cookies, while Bree and Conner were upstairs bringing old things into the attic.
"What about this old lamp from Sophie's nursery?" Conner said and handed Bree a butterfly lamp.
"It's cute, but I don't think she'll want this anymore, I'll bring it up, if you find anything else bring it up." Bree said and walked up the stars to the attic.
The attic was basically empty except for a few old books, and furniture. Bree put the lamp on an old desk and her eyes suddenly landed on an old baby crib. She walked over to it and put her hand on it and read the name that was on the headrest...Scarlet. She then fell to the floor and cried, she felt awful. She had almost completely forgotten about Sophie's long lost twin.
"Hey I don't think we need this old blanket. It's got so many holes," Conner started, and he spotted Bree on the floor sobbing. He dropped the blanket and ran over to her. "Bree what's wrong."
"Scarlet." She said through the tears. "I almost forgot about her. How could I do that?"
"Bree, you know we've been through a lot. We were kidnapped by my grandmothers sister, we were separated for six years,"
"But Conner that is no excuse for forgetting about her. We quit the search way to early. We should have kept on looking."
"Bree, I miss her too. But we also had Sophie's future to think about, would you want her live a life thinking her parents loved her sister who wasn't even here more? Or a life knowing that they loved her more than anything else in the world?"
"MOM, DAD I'M HOME." Sophie yelled from downstairs. Bree wiped away her tears and stood up.
"We'll talk about this later." Bree said and walked down the stairs, and Conner followed.
"Hello girls, how was your ride?" Bree asked.
"It was fun. We were wondering if we could have a snack?" Sophie asked.
"Sure." Bree walked into the kitchen and tried the find the freshly made cookies she had just baked. "Where did the cookies go?"
"Oops." Cody said with a mouth full a cookies.
"Oops as well." Conner said sitting next to Cody on the table.
"You two ate all 20 cookies?!" Bree said shocked.
"Sorry." Conner and Cody said.
"Girls do you want to help me make more?"
"Sure Aunt Bree." Ally said. There was then a knock on the back door, and Conner went to open it. It was Alex.
"Hey Alex, come in." Conner said and closed the door behind her.
"Hey guys, what are you doing?" She asked.
"Making another batch of cookies, since Conner and Cody ate the first one." Bree said.
"That sounds a lot like Conner." Alex said and smiled.
"Alex can I talk to you?" Conner asked. Alex nodded and they walked to the library.
"What's going on?" She asked,
"Bree brought up Scarlet."
"Oh, well Conner it's been 14 years, and she is your daughter."
"Yes Alex I know. But there's a reason I ended those hunts. I wanted give Sophie a normal life. I remember that first year of having the fairies or friends watch her so Bree and I could search for clues or search the forest. But I didn't want that, I wanted Sophie to know that we loved her, and I didn't want for her to always be watched by babysitters, or nannies. She was our daughter, not someone else's, and Bree knew that, which was why she agreed with me all those years ago."
"Conner, maybe there's a reason Bree brought it up again. Because she knows Sophie's not a baby anymore, and maybe she wants to start looking again."
"Alex I would love too, but we don't even know where she is, or...or if she's even still alive."
"Maybe it's time to start again. Bree obviously has started to remember again, and like a mother she misses her child, and she's been forced to forget about Sophie's other half, because of everything that's happened. Conner, we know how hard it is for twins to be apart. It was hard for us when we were apart, and mom hated it too. She knew that we were meant to be together, and Bree has that same feeling. She didn't have just Sophie, she had twins, and I know she wants them together." Alex explained. "So, If you want to start looking again, I'm always here, because I also think Sophie is now at an age where she deserves to know about Scarlet."
"Thank you Alex. I might just do that, and I do agree Sophie needs to know." Conner said. "Thanks for talking with me Alex."
"What are sisters for?" Alex said and hugged her brother.
