The Other Half

Deep within the Dwarf Forest lived a girl and her mother.  The girl wanted more than anything to go out and see the people she read about in her books.  She sat in her room and read the story of Cinderella.  She wished and prayed that some day a handsome prince would save her from her mothers dark mysterious home.  This girls name, was Scarlet.  She was a pretty girl, with dark blonde hair and blue eyes.  She was raised in the Dwarf Forest, and all she knew was the darkness, and dark magic for the longest time.  But she once met this kind witch, named Hagetta, her view of the world changed.  She knew Scarlet, and she saw the light within her.  So she told her the story Cinderella, and told her that this story was true, and she gave her a treasury of Fairytales, which was the history of their world.  The more Scarlet read it, she had hope for the future.

Scarlet sat on her bed and read through the history book for the fifth time today.  She then heard her mother walking towards her room and she quickly hid the book under her pillow.

"What are you doing?"  Holly asked walking into her room.

"Nothing."  Scarlet said.  "Mother, can I ask you a question?"

"What is it?"  She asked.

"I have heard of these stories, where Kings and Queens, and Fairies, and Mermaids exist here.  Do they?"

"They do, but they are a disease.  They give everyone false hope, and all those people have been through hell and back."

"Because of us!"  Scarlet yelled.  Holly was surprised, she had never heard Scarlet yell.  "I'm sorry, but...why can't we all just get along?"

"Because dark and light have always been separate, and that is how it always will be."  Holly said.  "How did you know about the world beyond the forest?"

"I heard two elves when I was picking Elf berries."  Scarlet lied.

"No you didn't."  Holly said and walked over to her bed.  Scarlet quickly grabbed the book and ran downstairs.  Holly followed her fast.  Scarlet ran into the potion room, and was stopped by Holly's special book.

"Listen Scarlet, give me the book, NOW!"  Holly yelled.

"Who is this girl?"  Scarlet asked looking at the book.  A picture of Sophie, Bree, Conner and Cody were there.  "She looks just like me."

"That, is your twin sister."  Holly said and stood next to her.

"My sister?"  Scarlet said surprised.  "She looks happy.  Wait, did someone take her from you when she was young?  Is that why I don't know her."

"No."

"Wait, did you...take me?"  Scarlet asked frightened.

Holly nodded, and Scarlet burst into tears.  She dropped her book and ran outside into the forest.  She found a big tree and sat beside it and cried.  She couldn't believe her mother.  The mother she's known all her life wasn't her mother.  When she saw her sister, she saw what could be a little brother and two parents.  She looked just like her real mother, and she wanted to see them, but she knew Holly would find out, and do something terrible.  Scarlet then heard footsteps coming towards her.  She stood up, and saw a handsome boy about her age come out. He had bright blue eyes and brown hair.  He wore a purple and silver suit, and a pair of black boots.

"I'm sorry I scared you.  Please don't go."  He said.  "My name is Daniel, I'm the Prince of the Corner Kingdom."

"Your a prince?"  Scarlet said.

"Yes, and I'm trying to find a little boy that strayed away from the village."

"Your very brave to come into these woods."  Scarlet said.  "No one really survives here.  Especially Princes."

"What are you doing out here?"  He asked.

"I live here."

"You do!  You don't look like a powerful ugly witch."  Daniel said walking closer to her.

"Thanks."  Scarlet said and scoffed.

"I didn't mean it like that, I meant your very beautiful."

"Thanks, and by the way I am very powerful, and so is my...mother.  So I better leave, I hope you find the little boy."

"I would like to see you again.  Would you meet me back here tomorrow, say noon?"  Daniel asked.

"Ok."  Scarlet said and blushed.  Daniel walked closer and kissed her on the cheek.  Scarlet smiled and ran deep into the forest in the opposite direction.  Daniel stood there smiling, he had never met anyone like her.  Soon his older brother and sister came up behind him.

"Daniel what are you doing here?"  The brother asked.  "We found the boy, he was in his houses cellar, playing with the other kids in the village."

"Ok Blake, and Brooke.  I just thought I would look here."  Daniel said still looking in the direction Scarlet went.  His sister Brooke walked over to him.

"What are you looking at?"  Brooke asked.

"Nothing, let's go."  Daniel said, and the siblings walked back over to their castle.

Scarlet ran back inside her house, and Holly grabbed her arm.

"Let me go!"  Scarlet said.  "Your not my mother!  I know the truth."

"Even though you do, I'm the one who raised you.  You don't know the whole truth."  Holly said.  She gestured for her to sit on the couch in the living room.  Scarlet sat down and Holly sat next to her.  Holly had to tell her a story, and she was very good at lying.

"Scarlet darling, I'm not your real mother.  But I had to take you."

"Why?"  Scarlet asked.

"Because, your real parents noticed you had dark magic and knew you were meant for the dark.  Your father is the Fairy godmothers brother.  So they couldn't allow someone that was dark into their family, and they abandoned you at the edge of the Dwarf Forest.  I noticed you and I took you in.  Yes I took you, but they were the bad guys and abandoned you."

"Are you telling me the truth?"  Scarlet asked knowing Holly was known for lying.

"Yes, I have never lied to you Scarlet, and I never will.  I love you, so much.  You are my daughter and always will be."  Holly said and smiled.  Scarlet smiled back and hugged her.

"Thank you for telling me the truth, and thank you for taking me in."  Scarlet said.

"Of course my darling."  Holly said as she hugged Scarlet.  "I love you."

"I love you too."
