Dema called the DEA office in Nogales and told Frank about the police raid in Saric.

She didn't mention how she had visited the man as the Lamia, and conjured up the snakes that kept him from bolting when the police drove up with sirens wailing. Nor did she mention how surprised the police had been to find him there surrounded by piles of drugs and money, or that the blatant evidence left them no choice but to actually arrest him and confiscate it all. She merely told him that Juan had backtracked the smugglers' trail to the house, and she had used her DEA credentials to get the police to stage the raid.

Then she said, "It seems the man got his stuff from a place near Hermosillo. I'm going to head on down and see what I can find there. Juan is still with me. We'll stay in touch." Frank could find no reason to disagree, so shortly she and Juan headed the Jeep south out of Saric.

Pup, of course, was still with them.
