As Mordred continued to walk alongside Team RNJR while carrying an unconscious Qrow who had been poisoned by Tyrian's attacks. As the journey goes on, Mordred continues to play the part of a caring friend ready to honor Katooni's memory. As they reached the abandoned village of Kuroyuri. 

Mordred: We should rest here. 

Ruby: But Uncle Qrow doesn't have much time!

Mordred: Don't worry, Ruby. All will be set right. Your uncle will make it. If we keep pressing on like this, we'll be doing more damage to your uncle. 

Mordred seemed to make sense. She turns to Jaune and nods to him. He and Ren move the unconscious Qrow to safety. Ruby begins to feel the pressure of everything getting to her. 

Ruby: I...I don't know if I can do it....

Mordred: You mustn't lose hope, Ruby. We must always keep going, no matter what. 

Mordred looked around and saw the he and Ruby were isolated. Nora went to help Jaune and Ren move Qrow inside a building. Mordred smiled as he placed his hand on his spear, ready to attack Ruby. Before he could, a voice calls out. 

???: MORDRED DE SABLE! 

As the voice called out, Jaune along with Ren and Nora ran outside. Soon enough, all eyes with the exception of Mordred turned to see Katooni clutching her side. Everyone was surprised to see her. 

Ruby: Katooni! You're all right!

Katooni: Get away from Mordred now!

Nora: What are you talking about? He's been helping us.

Katooni: He is not what he seems! He's working for Cinder and Jadus! He tried to kill me!

As Katooni said all these things, all eyes fell on Mordred who showed no emotion in his face. He made no attempt to defend himself. 

Ruby: Mordred? Is...is this....true? Please tell me it's not true!

Mordred: You just had to complicate things, Katooni. It didn't have to be this way, Katooni. But I'm afraid you've left me with no choice. Now I'm going to have to kill all of you sooner than I wanted. 

Without warning, Mordred reached for his Double Bladed Spear and activated his Semblance. Mordred's purple eyes turned red and black flame-like markings began to appear across his body. Katooni was quick to warn everyone. 

Katooni: Watch out!

Mordred moved with lightning fast speed as he quickly dispatched Jaune, Ren and Nora before they had a chance to defend themselves. Ruby was barely able to block his attack with Crescent Rose. 

Ruby: Why?! Why do this?!

Mordred: Because my master wills it, Ruby Rose. Fooling you was far too easy. 

Mordred then battered Ruby with powerful and fast attacks. During the brawl, Mordred punched Ruby in the stomach. The force of the punch took the breath out of Ruby as she dropped to the ground. Mordred then kicked Ruby in the stomach and rolled her on her back. Mordred then raised his spear at Ruby. 

Mordred: Take comfort in this, Ruby Rose. Killing you will deny Cinder Fall her revenge. 

Before Mordred could finish Ruby off, Katooni used the Force to shield Ruby from the attack. Katooni managed to grab the blade with her hand. Mordred laughs. 

Mordred: I must say, I'm surprised to see you still standing, Katooni. My master was right about you. You Jedi really are hard to kill!

Katooni: You'll find out I'm full of surprises! 

Katooni then reclaims her Lightsaber and ignites it's blue blade. The two then clash once more. This time, she maintains a strong defensive against Mordred. As the fight dragged on, Katooni's movements became sluggish from her previous wounds. Mordred could see this. As Mordred tries to exploit Katooni's weakness, Katooni unleashes a powerful torrent of Force Judgement on Mordred. Mordred powers through the lightning and continues to press the attack. As Katooni begins to falter, her thoughts fell on her fellow Jedi of the Kybuck Clan. They seemed to fuel her in this moment despite the pain. 

Katooni: I....I won't fail them!

Katooni then goes on the offensive and begins to slowly chip away at Mordred's defenses. Soon enough, she slashes her blade across Mordred's face, leaving a disfiguring scar. Mordred groans in pain as he falls back. Soon enough, Ruby and the others began to get up. At this point, Mordred was cornered. He saw that there was no way for him to win. Despite this, he began to laugh.

Mordred: Not now, Katooni. Not now....

As Mordred said this, he was engulfed by green smoke. Katooni moved to strike down Mordred, but her Lightsaber goes through the smoke, signifying Mordred's escape. With Mordred gone, Katooni rushed to Ruby. 

Katooni: Ruby, are you okay?

Without hesitation, Ruby tightly hugs Katooni, relieved to see her alive. Katooni ignored the slight pain in her side as Katooni hugged back. Suddenly, the sound of slow plodding footsteps was heard. 

Jaune: Wait, you guys hear that?

Ren: No....

Nora: Ren? 

Suddenly, the group was confronted by a Grimm riding on a bone horse. It exhales black smoke as it's blackened rider looks to the group. At this point, everyone readies their weapons despite not being at 100%. 

Ren: The Nuckelavee...

As those words leave Ren's mouth, the Nuckelavee lets out an ear shrieking roar. Katooni then turns to everyone. 

Katooni: We must face it...together. 

Everyone soon rallied around Katooni as she readied her Lightsaber and assumed the opening stance of Soresu. With the end of their battle with Mordred, the battle with the Nuckelavee would immediately follow. Despite the challenge ahead of them, Katooni was ready to lead Team RNJR to battle. She would put her fate in the Force.
