MEETING
That day with the music from the flute still ringing in my ears I excused myself after breakfast to take a tour of the palace and the gardens.
The gardens in Mathura were the most beautiful things. While going around the palace I came across a room which had different weapons in store along with targets and other elements to practice them. I picked up a bow and a quiver full of arrows and started to hit targets. It had been ages since I have last practiced with Bhrata Arjun still my aim was quiet good. After exhausting the quiver I moved on to try a sword.
I picked a sword from an array of swords. And that's when I heard a voice behind me dripping with sarcasm, "You cannot practice that by yourself Princess." I turned to see who it was. The voice belonged to an exceptionally good looking, dark skinned boy of Bhrata Arjun's age. He had a flute tucked on the side of his dhoti and there was a peacock feather attached to his headband.
"Who are you?" I asked all haughtily. Although I was overwhelmed by his presence still nobody gets away by being sarcastic to a Kuru princess so I showed him a bad temper. "That's a matter of unimportance", he said while picking up a sword for himself. Then without even a warning he attacked me with it. Thanks to Lord Shiva I was quick enough to brace myself otherwise my head would have been separated from my body at that precise moment. "Are you eccentric? You could have killed me" , I said.He was moving very swiftly with his sword and I was having a hard time bracing myself from his blows.
"What do you think princess your enemies will give you time to get ready when they attack?" he said flashing an amazing smile which hypnotised me momentarily. "I know you can do better if you look properly Darshinika."he said flashing the same smile and looking into my eyes. And he used my old name which I thought nobody would use again. My father called me Darshinika. This was because of my peculiar sight. I could see even a minute thing from a far off distance. Maybe this was one the gifts the Gods have bestowed me with. But except Pitashree nobody used that name of mine. Then how could this boy know?
I looked up into his eyes but all my thoughts vanished. I moved in an unknown rhythm fencing with him. My eyes were fixed on his and his on mine. After what looked like ages we were interrupted by a new voice.
"Kanha where...", the voice was of another boy's, a bit older than us. He stopped mid-sentence on seeing me. The boy from earlier said to the older boy "Pranipat Bhrata Balaram." I greeted him too. Okay so this older boy was aunt Rohini's son Bhrata Balram and the one with whom I was practicing was most probably called Kanha. "Kanha , Advaita just arrived today and you started disturbing her already?" Kanha made a guilty face. " I ashamed you brother", Bhrata Balaram finished. And then it stuck me Kanha was Bhrata Balaram"s brother that meant he was Krishna!! The one who had killed Kansa, one of the most powerful and dangerous kings of Aryavarta. And I was fighting with him?? I looked up to him with a confused look and said," Are you Krishna?" Giving me a mischievous smile he said,"Who else would I be? But you can call me Kanha. I happen to like the name."
Both the brothers left a bewildered version in the room and I being a puny little human being , unaware of destiny's plans didn't know this was the start of one the most important phases of my life.
It didn't take us long to become close acquaintances . Kanha and I. I told him stories of my life till before Mathura. He told me stories of his childhood too which were mesmerizing. His late uncle Kans would regularly send armies of his demons to kill Kanha. And instead of getting killed Kanha killed them. So he survived and then killed Kans and freed his parents.
Sometimes he played me his flute. Such melodious sound it was. He always played me happy notes but sometimes when I sneaked on him I would find him sitting all alone with himself and playing sad notes. I knew he felt sad for some reason which he would never talk about. But I was no fool. I knew why he was sad or maybe I assumed . He had departed from Vrindavan and for some reason he would never go back. He had his friends , foster family and Sri Radha there. And he missed them, that's why he was sad but he never showed it.
Though he was not much older than me still he gave me my weaponary lessons and the wife of the Rajguru. Amidst all this I didn't even know when I started falling for him. And all kinds of silly thing started happening to me. Whenever he walked into a room or somebody talked about him I blushed. But I didn't tell him anything still we shared stolen moments until Mathura got attacked.
Kans' father in law Jarasandh, the King of Magadh attacked Mathura out of vengeance. He was one of the most powerful kings of Aryavart then so the Yadavas had a tough time fighting him. He attacked Mathura for total seventeen times.First few times I disguised myself and fought with his armies of demons but then somehow Kanha found out about it and prohibited me. Later he explained that if Jarasandh found out that I being Kuru Princess fighting for the Yadavas he would go and attack Hastinapur which won't be good so he didn't let me go to the battle.
Kanha knew Jarasandh won't stop and when I asked him to kill Jarasandh , he said," He is not mine to kill."
One dawn during the last battle when I woke up I was baffled to see myself in a different room on a different bed with a completely different decor. I was so confused that I found a door and ran out of it. I came into a palace corridor and there I met Mamashree and Mamishree Rohini and Devaki. Subhadra was also there along with a number of other Yadava leaders. Everybody was in utter confusion. Then I saw Kanha and Bhrata Balram along with my friend Satyaki comming towards the crowd. I sort Satyaki out and asked him what the matter was. He said that it was impossible for the Yadavas to kill Jarasandh so Kanha had prayed to Devi Yogmaya to shift all the endangered Yadavas of Mathura to this new place which was an island named Dwarka heavily guarded by the Yadava armies and impenetrable due to the seas around it.
Dwarka was an amazing place and that was the first time I saw the seas. But after our few days stay in Dwarka my best friend Satyaki left for education in Guru Dron's gurukul. I concentrated more in my royal education and the love between me and Kanha deepened.
