Prologue: "Today"

As sunlight beamed down unto the ground a young teenage girl was seen sitting down under a tree with a sketchbook, the grass swaying in the light breeze as she drew. She seemed focused on her sketchbook, her hand moving slightly back and forth as she drew in it.

This was her contest clothing sketchbook, something she kept close to her. She was the opener and closer of contests, so she always needed different outfits for each contest. However, they were themed around the Ralts line as per her nickname: "The Kirlia Girl". Smiling to herself at the thought of her nickname with her hand raised above the notebook, she quickly put it back to the paper as she continued drawing.

She could've had others made them, and it would've probably taken less time to have them ready, but she preferred sketching them out and making them herself. She had taken lessons on sowing a year prior, so she knew something about making outfits. Granted, she wasn't a master at the art and sometimes she struggled. But she did her best, and that was all that mattered to her.

The girl finally finished her sketch and put the notebook down at the base of the tree, before getting up to stretch and look at her reflection over the water:

Green hair that cascaded down to her shoulders that had a red hairband in it.

Her blue eyes staring back at her with a mixture of acceptance and uncertainty.

Her purple t-shirt and jeans being slight flowy due to the breeze having picked up.

Smiling to herself nervously, she went and picked up her notebook and stowed it into her handbag before heading to the main road and beginning her trek back to Lilycove City. She needed to get to her hotel before nightfall so she could prepare and rest up for tomorrow.

A feminine voice suddenly squealed: "OH MY GOSH, IT'S WANONA PETAL!" The girl groaned a little, she didn't want to be late getting to Lilycove City and having to do autographs or something for a fan would impede her progress. Having to stop for this would mean she would be here for most likely thirty minutes to an hour, time she could be taking to mentally prepare.

However, she couldn't just ignore her fame. She may have only been the Contest Opener and Closer for a year now, but she had quickly gained a reputation. Sighing before putting on a smile, she turned to see a couple of young girls with fangirl expressions who looked excited just to have even seen her. "Hello!" She said with a wave.

Next thing she knew, she was doing autographs and taking pictures. Just as she had feared she'd have to do. It all happened so quickly, that after it was done she would wonder whether or not an hour had actually passed by.

But she couldn't be too upset with the girls, she really couldn't. She herself once had had a person to admire, though that was a long time ago. But she also couldn't deny the fact that the said person had impacted her life. They had, in fact she might not be where she was today if not for them.

After taking the pictures and signing their contest books, she smiled and waved them goodbye so as to disengage from all the photos and autographs. "Got to get to Lilycove! So come there if you want to see me tomorrow in action!" She yelled to them as she began to walk away, which incited squeals of anticipation from her fans. Having a little laugh to herself, Wanona resumed her trek. That had been a little bit of a nostalgia trip, if only for a little bit. Seeing concrete just a short while ahead of her, she knew that she was almost to Lilycove.

Just as the sun began descending into twilight, she made it to her hotel that the Contest Association had set her up with. It looked quite small for one, but she liked that. Opening the door and coming in, she shut it behind her before looking around at the quaint room. It reminded her of her parent's house, with little knick knacks and decorations from an older generation. Her attention was drawn to a man who was watching 'Who Wants to Be A Contest Master? ' Walking up to him she noticed he had on a badge, which let her know that he was Dale Cove, the Manager of the Lilycove Inn.

She cleared her throat a little to get his attention, which resulted in him getting a flustered look. "O-oh! Sorry miss. Didn't mean to ignore you!" Dale apologized profusely, to which Wanona smiled at him. "It is perfectly fine, I believe I have a room here? The reservation should be for Wanona Petal, paid for by the Contest Association." She stated, giving him the information that had been sent to her three days prior to her coming out this way.

Dale looked through the papers as he put on his glasses, before holding up the first page and reading it. "Ah yes. Wanona Petal. Room for one, staying for the length of the contest." He read off, before handing her a key. "Second door on the left. Can't miss it. And um, miss? What brought you out here besides your job? Surely more than just the promise of your next paycheck?" He asks, his eyes filled with a slight curiousity.

Wanona smiled as she took the key, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "Besides my job? Lilycove is just a beautiful city to be in. I always get excited to come here, especially as the sunset is just gorgeous as it sets on the ocean!" She answers, to which Dale gave her a toothy grin.

"It sure is, miss. Well, I imagine you probably want to retire for the night, seeings as you came all the way out from Verdanturf Town, correct? I know I would if I had came from that far away on foot!" He chuckled, before his smile and eyes radiated a kind of warm kindness that Wanona couldn't help but smile back at.

"Yes. Thank you so much Dale, and have a goodnight!" She replied, beginning to head towards her room. Turning back to look before she opened her door, she saw Dale sitting back in front of the television again. Giggling to herself, she opened the door and went into her room.

Seeing all the little sea decorations made her feel a bit happier. It was clear Dale put his best effort in making all his rooms feel like a home away from home. Putting her belongings down and grabbing her pajamas from her bag, she proceeded to wash herself up for the night.

Coming out, she sat on the bed as her thoughts drifted to her performance tomorrow. It didn't take long before her performance jitters came to her, her thoughts becoming more and more towards the negative. 'What if I mess up? What if they don't like what I have prepared?' These and more plagued her mind, before she began to cross her legs, close her eyes, and just breathed to clear her mind. It was what her doctor had told her to do if she started to have these thoughts, as they could induce anxiety which could aggravate her asthma and even cause an asthma attack if she let the anxiety build up.

After about twenty minutes, she opened her eyes slowly and uncrossed her legs. "Bed..I need to sleep for tomorrow. Especially if I want to get up early and get cleaned up again before the contest. Tomorrow will be fine, Wanona." She advised herself, before she got under the covers and turned off the lamp that was sitting on the nightstand next to her bed. Resting her head on the pillow, she closed her eyes and drifted off into a dreamless sleep...
