"A Nosy Encounter"
As Wanona got prepared to leave the contest hall, she once again donned her old identity. Her performance as the closer was, once again, just as spectacular as when she had opened it. But since Brenden would want to tell 'Wally' about 'Wanona's' closing performance, she had donned her old identity.
Sighing as she exited through the side exit of the hall, she set her stuff down by a tree so that she'd have an excuse to run back to the hall for it. After she was done talking with him and after she made sure he was gone, she'd come back for her stuff. No one came down this way because they knew that only people associated with the Contest Association came through here.
Looking back and forth to make sure the coast was clear, she crossed over the rope leading to the front entrance. Seeing as the doors hadn't opened yet, she had just managed to get here before anyone had left the building. Which meant she had beat Brenden out here. 'Well at least that's two things I'm better at than him.' she thought with a small smile as she waited at the doors for Brenden to come out.
That's when the doors opened up, smacking Wanona right in the face.
"Owww!" she yelped, holding her nose as she felt pain radiate from it. 'Great! Just great! Now how am I gonna-' she thought angrily, before a voice filled with concern interrupted her thoughts.
"Hey! You ok, Wally?" Brenden asked, leaning over her with concern in his brown eyes. Wanona was momentarily stunned, looking at him as a memory surfaced:
"Wally! Are you ok?!" Brenden asked her, his voice echoing through the cave as he ran over and dropped to his knees. "Oh man...you overexerted yourself didn't you? " he asked, before picking her up...
"Wally? Wally! Snap out of it!" Brenden said, waving a hand in front of her face with the same concerned look as in the memory.
She shook her head, releasing her nose as she looked at her hands. No blood, which was very thankful, but her nose still was tender when she touched it. "You took a blow from the door, Wally." Brenden said nervously, shifting around. "The door I came out of, to be specific." he clarified, his eyes looking away.
Wanona stared at him for a minute, before anger started to build up. "So you just slam open doors?!" she asks, her voice a bit loud. She didn't care who heard, but he could have seriously hurt her! "Look I'm sorry ok?!" Brenden roared in apology, which took her aback by how loud he was. Groaning a little, she looked at the sidewalk. She never had learned how to talk to him, not as Wally.
Brenden put a hand on her shoulder in comfort she assumed, which made her flinch a little. "Why don't we...travel around Lilycove for a bit? I'll even treat you to something an apology for hurting your nose." he offered with a small smile coming to his face as Wanona looked up at him, her anger ebbing away. Why did he have to be so supportive and apologetic? It made having any negative feelings for him feel undeserved.
Wanona nodded, before answering back: "Let me just go back inside and get my stuff, ok..? I forgot to ask the guards to let me pick it up before they evicted me out."
Her stomach felt nauseated from the lie as he nodded. 'Another lie I have to tell.' she hears in her head with her dad's voice from one of the morals he drilled into her head: Be honest. Always.
'Nothing I say to him now is honest, Dad. It can't be. Not if I want to be better then him at something. Plus after he...no. I'm not going there. Brenden hurt me too much with that.'
Though if she was honest with herself, what Brenden had done wasn't as bad as what she made it out to be. But by lying to herself, she was able to make it slightly easier to not get too friendly with him.
Going through the side entrance, grabbing her bag, and coming through the front entrance, she smiled at Brenden a little. "Alright. I'm ready to go!" she exclaimed, her mega necklace jingling around her neck as her and Brenden walked away from the contest hall, him talking about "Wanona's most spectacular closing to date!"
Wanona smiled a bit, listening to him going on and on about her performance. It made her feel good, though the nagging feeling of having lied and continuing to lie to Brenden still lingered.
'It's for the best...' she thought, resigning herself as her and Brenden head towards the Lilycove Shopping Mall...
