Chapter 3: It Always Starts With A Dance
It has been 20 years since Emma's birth. She's 20 now with a younger brother named Neil and he's 18. Emma has become very good friends with Neil, Roland, Seraphina, Fergus, Adria, Hamish, Elsa and Anna. They were all laying on the grass near the Northern Castle. Tonight would be Emma's coming of age ball aka her 20th birthday and they wanted it to be held in Regina's castle. Mostly Regina insisting that Emma's birthday be celebrated in her castle, but no one talks about the big scene she made when Snow and Charming tried to refuse. Let's just say Regina won the argument.
Emma
It was peaceful laying on the grass before my coming of age ball. I was honestly thrilled and nervous at the same time. And of course, Anna had to break the peace. "Emma, do you fancy anyone?" Anna asked smirking. "I don't fancy anyone, Anna." I replied sighing. I'm too focused on becoming the successor of our kingdom rather than looking for a love life honestly. "Really? I thought you fancied Baelfire." Anna stated as we all watched the clouds move. I chuckled spotting an adorable cat. "I think you've mistaken me for Ina." I replied smirking. We all turned to look at Seraphina to see her cheeks turning into a shade of red. "Ohhhhhhhh, cute! Elsa, do you fancy anyone?" Anna asked turning to look at her sister. "Anna, you know there isn't any worthy man from our realm." Elsa replied sighing. Anna giggled looking back at the clouds. "What about you Anna? Do you fancy anyone?" Adria asked as we all laughed at the bouncing bunny cloud. "Well, there is one." Anna replied dreamily. We all turned to look at Anna. "Who is it?" We asked in unison.
Anna smiled brightly and sat up as some of us sat up as well and the others continued to lay down, but looked at her. "Well, his name is Kristoff, but I don't know if he likes me too." She replied blushing. "Ah, young love." Roland commented smiling. I turned to Roland and smirked. "Oh yeah, how are things going with Mulan?" I asked knowing how much he gets bashful over talks about him and his wife Mulan. He blushed fifty shades of red. "Oh my gosh, what did you guys do!?" Adria asked smirking with me.
"Well, you guys are too young to know." He replied smirking. I rolled my eyes knowing exactly what he meant. "Whatever, Roland. I'm gonna go to town. I want to check if I can get a small snack before the ball. Cover for me?" I asked with puppy dog eyes. "Go." He replied smirking. "Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I exclaimed standing up and putting my rugged hood on me and sneaked out the castle. "Try not to get caught by mom and dad!" Neil hollered as I smiled breathing in the fresh air. I sighed going deeper into the forest. I spotted a paper stuck on the tree and frowned. Stupid police and harming the trees. What is this paper about anyway? I walked closer to the tree and read.
NOTICE:
BLACKBEARD, PIRATE. IF CAPTURED WILL BE REWARDED 1,000 GOLDEN COINS
I frowned noticing someone's gaze on me. I turned to see a Hook hide behind a tree. I cautiously walked towards the tree and climbed up silently. I looked down to see a pirate with a Hook for a hand. Is that Hook? The man father told me about who saved my life when I was just a little babe. But he doesn't look a day over thirty! I wanna scare him, see if he really was fearless. I could see more of his men hiding from a distance. I think I recognize one of them while I strolled in town the other day. I slowly descended silently as he looked for me behind this tree.
"You know, if you're trying to sneak up on someone, you're doing a pretty bad job." He commented as I lost my concentration, making me fall. I gasped closing my eyes as I felt his arms catch me. "You can open your eyes now, princess." The man said with a chuckle as I slowly opened my eyes to meet the man's gaze. "Emma?" He asked frowning. "How do you know my name?" I asked raising a brow. "Let's just say I met you a long time ago. You've grown into quite the ravishing lady." He commented putting me down and putting a distance between us.
"Who are you?" I asked looking at his mesmerizing blue orbs. They reminded me of the sky, it was so blue. "Name's Killian Jones, better known as Captain Hook, pleasure to be of your acquaintance, Princess Emma." He said with a bow as he reached for my hand and kissed the top. "Am I that famous?" I asked as I removed the hood off my head. "Yes, quite the chatter about you in the town. What are you doing here?" He said raising a brow. Aw! That eye brow raise looks adorable rather than screaming power. And his men went out of their hiding place.
"Why would I tell a stranger like yourself?" I asked feeling myself blush but, "You're a child, you shouldn't be wondering off in the woods by yourself." He replied sternly. Excuse me?! A child?! I'm giving you a piece of my mind Killian Jones! "A child? I'll have you know, Mr. Killian Jones, that I'm capable of protecting myself. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get food in my stomach before my stomach decides to eat itself." I replied pushing through him and his men and headed straight for the tavern. He called me a child! How rude!
"Wait, I didn't mean to offend. Please don't go in there. Men in there aren't gentlemen like I am." Killian apologized catching my arm. "So much pride for a pirate to say that he's a gentleman." I commented trying to hide my smile. "That's exactly what makes me a pirate. My ruggedly handsome good looks, cunningness, and charm are just a plus." Killian replied with an air of arrogance in his reply. Such an unpredictable man. "Where do you suggest to get food then, Captain?" I asked smiling. "Is that a yes?" He teased as I turned to look at him. I chuckled nodding my head. "Then I'll escort you to my favorite place to eat." He replied linking our arms together as I giggled.
"Princess!" Graham yelled as I cringed knowing how and why he found me. He hates pirates too so Killian and his have to leave now. "You have to go. Graham hates pirates. Here, I'm inviting you to my coming of age ball tonight, I hope to see you there." I said with a smile as I pulled my arm away. Killian reached for my hand, stopping me from leaving. "Save a dance for me?" He asked with a hopeful smile. My heart melted. "Go!" I exclaimed with a small laugh and kissed his cheek. Killian grinned and his men ran. I smiled knowingly as I turned when Graham reached me. "Your parents were worried about you. The cover Roland told them didn't last long. They're on their way towards the stables. Come on." Graham said carrying me bridal style and running towards the stables. I laughed as I held onto him for dear life.
We reached the stables and Graham put me down as he caught his breath. I walked towards my horse, Christine. "Get on her and I'll pretend to teach you." He whispered as he helped me on Christine and I started to go around the grounds. We saw my parents coming and he cleared his throat. "Posture, Emma!" He scolded as I straightened my back. My parents reached us as Graham gave me a knowing grin. "Emma! We were so worried about you!" Mom exclaimed as I we slowed Christine's steps and Dad helped me down when I stopped. "I'm fine, mom, really." I replied with a smile. "We thought you let Roland cover for you again." She said hugging me. Roland and the others came grinning. Thank you. I mouthed. All of them nodded and smiled. I turned to look at Graham and smiled at him as he smiled and bowed.
Mom pulled away from me and smiled. "Emma, come with me. I have to teach you more etiquette before your coming of age ball!" Mom exclaimed as I followed after her with pleading eyes directed at my dad. Good luck. He mouthed smiling at me. I rolled my eyes as Mom dragged me towards my room. "Go change into your dress for the ball." Mom ordered as the other girls pilled in. I sighed turning towards my closet to see a mannequin with a beautiful red dress on it. I smiled quickly wearing the dress. I walked towards the mirror and smiled. "Oh, Emma. Look at you. You look so beautiful." Mom said smiling at me at the mirror. I smiled back at her and gave her hand a squeeze. "The other girls joined us and I sighed, mentally preparing myself for mom's lecture. "Come on, we'll fix your hair while Auntie Snow teaches." Seraphina said helping me sit in front of my dresser mirror.
"Okay, so we start with..." And that's how I spent my whole afternoon till the ball tonight. I really hope Kilian comes. Mom finished teaching me and added a few more touches to my hair and jewelry before she lead all of us into the ballroom and guided me towards the stage they put for the musicians. Grandma Regina, she insists that I call her Regina though, but I say Grandma to annoy her. Regina was standing there with Dad and Robin and I couldn't be happier to see them on my special day, but I was nervous. Will I become the Princess they expect me to be?
I had no time to calm myself as Regina gently took my hand and lead me to the steps leading to the assembly of people which was like half of the whole Kingdom. "Good citizens of the Four Kingdoms as you all know my step-daughter and son, Snow White and Prince Charming had a baby nineteen years ago. Today you will finally see her in person, please welcome my beautiful granddaughter, Emma Swan Charming." Regina introduced looking at me. I took in a deep breath and let it out before walking down the steps smiling. Dad was waiting for me down. I smiled as reached the last step and he carried me, twirling me a bit and putting me down. He pulled away as mom joined us.
"My daughter, all grown up." He said smiling brightly. "Our daughter." Mom corrected as she gave me a hug. "Remember what I taught you?" Mom asked fixing my dress. "Smile, bow, and shake hands." I replied smiling. "Good, get to know the people out there. Who knows, you might find your one true love." Mom teased with a smile. "Thank you." I replied hugging her. "Let the celebrations, begin!" Grandpa Robin announced smiling at me. I smiled back pulling away from my Dad and walking towards my Grandparents to hug them. Robin hates it when I call him grandpa, but deep inside he loves it. I reached them and hugged them both tightly. "Thank you." I whispered kissing both their cheeks before pulling away and mingling with our people.
It's so fun meeting knew people, but I am exhausted smiling and bowing and shaking hands then repeat. I took a break and walked towards the refreshments table to drink. "Did you find a man of your interest?" Elsa asked as we watched the people dance. "Maybe, but I don't like him. Too much of a Ladies man for my liking." I replied as we ate some of the sandwiches on the table. "Really? What's his name?" Elsa asked as we watched Anna walk towards us. "Naveen." I replied as Elsa laughed. "I met him just before I came here and I have to say, he was cute." Elsa replied as Anna reached us. "The ice cream is amazing! It's chocolate! You have to try it!" Anna exclaimed handing me a small bowl of ice cream. I took a spoon full and tasted the ice cream. "No, don't do-too late!" Anna said smiling guiltily. I gasped as my head started to hurt. It tasted good, but damn the head ache! "I'll take that." Anna stated putting it on the table. "Princess, drink this. It'll help ease the pain." A familiar voice said handing me a flask. I had wide eyes and turned to see Killian smiling. Killian! You came." I stated smiling the best I could through the pain. "Well, of course I did. You gave me an invitation after all. I couldn't resist. Now, drink this for your head ache." He replied grinning. Anna smirked as I took the flask and drank from it.
I coughed feeling my head ache vanish. "What is that?" I asked coughing and handing him back his flask. "Rum." Killian replied flashing us his charming smile. "Are you trying to get me drunk?" I asked crossing my arms. "Now why would I do that?" He asked cheekily. He and I burst out laughing. Someone cleared their throat. I looked at Elsa who was raising a brow. "Oh right, sorry. Killian these are my two good friends, Anna and Elsa. Anna, Elsa, this is Kilian, my savior." I introduced. "Oh my gosh! You don't look like a day over thirty! Nice to meet you, Emma's savior!" Anna said enthusiastically reaching out her hand to shake Killian's.
"Nice to meet you, Princess Anna." Kilian replied kissing her hand, making me choke on the rum and cough. "Emma, are you alright?" Elsa asked worriedly as she patted my back. "Well, the man you chose is a Ladies Man." Elsa whispered with a teasing tone. I playfully hit her arm with my free hand and coughed a little more for effect. "I'm fine, I'm fine. No need to worry." I replied calming down. "Emma, would you dance with me?" Killian asked as Anna pushes me towards him, making me trip and Killian caught me. "I would like that." I replied looking at him as he helped me up. He guided me towards the dance floor as I put my arm on his shoulder and he positioned his hand on my hip and held my hand. "Shall we?" He asked as we moved with the music. "You look beautiful, Emma Swan." Killian complimented as we continued to dance. "Why thank you, Kilian. You look dashing in a suit." I replied as we laughed at each others comments. We fell into a comfortable small talk and I can't help talking to him so much.
We didn't notice our surroundings until I saw Dad behind Killian. "Ahm, may I cut in?" Dad asked as he tapped Kilian's shoulder. "Of course." Killian replied letting me go and looking guilty. I missed his warm hand on my hip. "Nice to see you have met our Emma, Killian." Dad said with a forced smile. "Aye." Killian replied as he watched me get taken away from him. I kept eye contact with him as long as I can before Dad fully whisked me away from Killian. I looked at Dad as he held my hand and started to move with the music. "I don't want you seeing that pirate anymore." Dad said looking me in the eye. "Why? You told me he was my savior." I asked frowning. "I know I did and he is, but he's still a pirate and has a reputation. Pirates get lots of treasure and play with women a lot. They're greedy and would anything for gold. I just want you safe, Emma." Dad replied calmly. I frowned as we danced our way back to Killian. "Hey, Princess." Kilian said smiling. "A word, Kilian." Dad said as he gripped Killian's arm and pulled him away from us. Dad whispered something to Killian making his face turn pale. I frowned curious. Killian turned away from me and walked towards a different woman as Dad walked towards me. I sighed knowing exactly what he said to Killian now.
"I'll see you later." Dad said kissing my head and leaving me to watch Killian dance with another woman. I frowned as I watched them get closer and closer. I gasped seeing Killian kiss the woman. I felt hurt and rage within me and walked away from the ball. I need fresh air. "Emma, where are you going?" Mom asked as I passed by her. "I need fresh air!" I hollered back walking past the door. Once I knew mom wasn't going to follow me, I ran towards the garden. This was where I went when I don't want anyone finding me. They'd never suspect me going here. I sobbed wiping my tears away. Why does my heart hurt when that man was with another woman? Why was I so jealous?! So stupid to trust a pirate! Father was right! Pirates are mean and greedy!
I didn't hear the footsteps approaching me froze when I heard the familiar voice of Roland. "Emma?" Roland called. I turned to see he was with Elsa and Neil. "Oh no, she's been crying." Elsa said walking towards me and sat on my right as Roland sat on my left. Neil squat in front of me handing me a handkerchief. "Thanks." I mumbled wiping my tears away. "Do you want us to beat up that pirate?" Neil asked as I gave him back the handkerchief. I smiled as he held my hands. I shook my head knowing Neil would probably win. "Emma, you can tell us what's wrong." Elsa said wrapping her hand around our hands and Roland joined in. "I don't know why, but Hook makes my heart go wild. I just met him today and when I saw him with Anna... with another woman, I couldn't bear it. My heart hurts. What is this feeling?" I asked confused as Elsa wiped my tears away. "Love." They replied in unison.
Kilian/Hook
"Hey, Princess." I said smiling at her. "A word, Kilian." David said me pulling towards the corner. "Stay away from my daughter. She's a princess and I don't want a pirate like yur self destroying her." He said walking towards Emma. Son of a bitch! I glared at the back of Charming's head. I just thought Emma was pretty as I danced with her to oblige her... That would be a lie. I wanted to dance with her because I like her. I'm too old for her, too broken, he's right. I'm going to destroy her if I stay with her. A random lady came upto me and pulled me to dance and she obviously wanted more.
I saw Emma look my way and as much as it pained me to this to her... I had too. I kissed the woman and Emma gasped. I pulled away from the woman entirely and saw Emma run away. For a small moment I saw tear drops fall down her face as she ran away. When Charming wasn't looking, I sneaked out and looked for Emma. I heard sobbing from a corridor. I followed it and saw Emma crying in the middle of a beautiful garden. She looked absolutely stunning, like a fallen angel crying for her sins. I leaned on the wall and watched her cry not knowing what to do.
"What are you doing here, pirate?" A young boy who looked similar to Emma asked frowning at me. "I-I ca-" The young girl with white blonde hair from earlier cut me off. "Let him watch. He's too scared to confront her." She said walking towards Emma followed by two boys. "Emma?" The older boy called. She turned and I hid behind the wall again. "Oh no, she's been crying." The girl said walking towards her and sat on her right as the older boy sat on her left. The young boy squat in front of her. "Thanks." She mumbled wiping her tears away. I swallowed a lump down my throat. I hurt a damsel's feelings.
"Do you want us to beat up that pirate?" The young boy asked. I chuckled imagining the scenario. "Emma, you can tell us what's wrong." The girl said worriedly. "I don't know why, but Hook makes my heart go wild. I just met him today and when I saw him with Anna... with another woman, I couldn't bear it. My heart hurts. What is this feeling?" She asked confused as the girl wiped her tears. "Love." They replied in unison.
I had wide eyes. My heart skipped a beat. Could it be? It's been so long since she... "What are you waiting for?" Snow asked, startling me. I turned to see her with Charming behind her. "What do you mean, my queen?" I asked bowing. "Go approach her and explain why you did it. Tell her the truth. Truth in this family means a lot." She said smiling. "I can't believe I let my own daughter cry on her birthday. Go." Charming said pushing me out of my hiding, making me stumble forward. My entrance made a loud noise making all four people look at my direction. "Killian!?" Emma asked standing up. "Well, we'll leave you both to talk. If you need us, just scream and we'll be right here." The older boy said smirking.
Emma laughed as they walked away and I walked towards her. "What do you want?" She asked raising a brow. I rubbed the back of my neck feeling extremely nervous. I don't usually feel like this. "I came to apologize for earlier. How I treated you... Emma, you know I have a reputation of being cunning and ruthless and I don't want that rubbing off on you." I stated as looking away and looking at her attire instead. Looking at her properly now, the dress looks amazing on her. Red compliments her nicely. "Are you apologizing?" She asked frowning. I chuckled nervously meeting her eyes again. "Aye. Aye that I am. Emma, I... I fancy you. I don't want you having a bad reputation and hu-" She cut me off with a kiss.
We heard gasps, but I felt magic surround us and I cupped her cheek, closing my eyes, and kissing her back. It was soft and unexpectedly addictive. We pulled away smiling. "I don't care about those, Kilian. I fancy you too." She replied as I hugged her closer to me. We heard a throat clear up and we looked up to see Charming raising a brow. "Dad, I ca-" He cut her off by raising his hand. "Emma, I'm sorry for provoking him. Just be careful, alright? I don't want you getting into any kind of danger because of him." He said smiling at her. Snow punched his arm making him gasp. "That's unavoidable, Charming, but Killian, as much as possible, do keep her out of trouble." Snow said smiling brightly at us. "Thank you." Emma said pulling away and hugging her parents.
"All I ask, is that you protect her." Charming added looking at me. "Aye, with my life." I replied grinning. Emma pulled away from them and walked towards me. "We'll leave you both to it." Charming said pulling Snow and the children away from us. "No! I want to stay and wa-" The older boy covered the younger boy's mouth and turned to look aT us apologetically. "Forgive him, he's too young to understand these things. We'll leave you both in peace." The older boy apologized as they all walked away.
I turned to Emma and smiled. "Swan, I want to get to know you more. Can we talk here?" I asked as I lead her towards the bench in the middle of the garden. "Of course, what do you want to know?" She asked smiling brightly at me. She started to describe herself and listening to her made me thing, could this be my happy ending?
As Emma and Hook kissed there was power that went through the land, alarming a foe, powerful enough to cast a terrible curse.
