The Game

"First," you ask, "how does game magic work?"

"You can do many things," Silkress explains, "you can attack your foes with arcane energy, bend their positions, bend time and space, you can do most anything, so let's just talk about what you can't do. You can't fix souls, you can't go back in time, you aren't invincible, and you can't change things that aren't up to chance. Using it is easy, you just think it, snap your fingers, roll your dice and pray for the best. Come on Manny, we must be going."

Silkress leads you through the city, beggers line the streets, asking for any spare change, food, anything. Silkress ignores them, and makes sure you do the same.

"Remember," she explains, "just complete your quests and Gene can fix all of this."

You're not sure if you can trust Silkress, what even is she? You just don't know. You pass the city limits, and, immediately, we're talking like five seconds later. You and Silkress are jumped by men wearing masks.

"These the ones?" One of them asks.

"Yeah," Another of the four replies, "that's them. An outsider and a goddess, heh. Didn't expect the readers to return. Tell me, do you really think you're on the right side? That you can trust Gene? I have been sent by... let's say, an interetsed group, and we require your assistance. Kill Silkress, and we can discuss the truth."

Silkress glares at you.

"Don't you dare," she warns, "I know you're thinking it, but don't. I will kill you. It wouldn't be hard. You have no power, not yet. Not to mention, these guys are attempting genocide."

"We are slaying false prophets," one of the masked goons, all of which wear identical grey armor, with 'the end' etched into it retorts, "saving this world. Make your choice, outsider."
