Chapter 6: Far From Here
That afternoon, Jimin threw himself over Taehyung's bed and screamed into a small pillow. His anger erupted like a volcano, his tears threatened to burst from his eyes like a waterfall, and his fingers dug into the bed like a child throwing a tantrum. Sadly, he was no longer at peace like he was in the morning. Jimin escaped his home after Jung Hoseok left, overwhelmed by the many things that were said at the table, the weary omega had no one to turn to at a time like this but, his best friend Kim Taehyung; of the Kim household and son of a well-known doctor.
"Jimin, maybe you should give this man a chance, maybe he's different," assured Taehyung in an effort to comfort the older omega. "Oh, how beautiful it would be to find a good suitor to marry..."
"It's not okay, Taehyung! I don't want to marry. You should have been there, the way he looked at me as if I was his prey! To make matters worse, I didn't speak to him once and my father grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly! L-Look," Jimin sputtered and grabbed Taehyung's hand to squeeze, however, he wasn't strong at all and to the younger omega, it wasn't as painful as Jimin made it out to be.
"Petrified... Utterly petrified," Taehyung commented blankly, loosening Jimin's hand to hold it gently. "Jimin, what more could you do? You might as well be happy you've been arranged to marry such a charming and rich noble like Jung Hoseok. Oh, I would love to be paired off to someone like him, but my father is too busy making medicine infusions and healing others to find any suitors for me..."
"I wish I was as lucky as you, Taehyung... If I was independent as you, I would run around freely like a child. You are so lucky, if I could give you my fiancé, I would."
"You would? Ah- Jimin, please, enough of this..." Taehyung said and sat next to his helpless friend. "Don't you think you are judging this man a little too early? Hoseok is said to be a charming alpha; happy, playful at times, and he has the brightest spirit in town! Let alone those sharp fangs that assists every smile~"
"He could be said to be a true hero by everyone, but behind closed doors, he could be the exact opposite. All of the past alphas I've been engaged to, they couldn't stand me and they weren't who I thought they were. Their parents cancelled the engagements and I was so silly to think, 'if they truly loved me,' I said... 'they would have stayed'. None of them did, they laughed at me when I longed to be independent and treated equally."
"Jimin, I know you hate being told this... But maybe, this 'equality' thing should be left alone. Those alphas are different, betas and even us omegas are different... No one will ever think the same because we are all created differently. If they want to think they are better, what will it make us if we try? We'll get nowhere. Jimin, you're independent, I love that... But, do you wish to be alone forever?"
"I want to marry, but I want to marry an alpha who understands me. Someone who makes me feel better, someone who makes me feel as if I'm not a product! Is that too much? Because it could never be any less. These alphas I always get arranged to, do not love me truly," Jimin retorted and sat up on the bed before facing Taehyung. "I... I could never tell Namjoon any of this, he wouldn't understand..."
"He understands, Jimin. Namjoon just gives you the sight of reality when you need it most, there won't be any other alpha here other than the ones you've met," Taehyung concluded as Jimin only looked at the wooden floors and let out a sigh.
"You're both wrong..." Jimin whispered and finally looked at Taehyung in the eyes. "Yeong-Hwa isn't like the other alphas, he sees the world differently, I've never heard of a life like his and I'm glad I was the one who listened. He's intelligent, creative, charming... but he's a commoner... and oh, how I hate it when my mind longs to travel with his, imagine if I ever stay with him? I will bear a pup that will be shamed upon. I can't be happy either way... He's in a class way below mine," Jimin then let out a tear from his short speech. "I hate... I-I hate this to the point where I... I wish to run away from it all and be on my own. Free and all alone..."
Taehyung pitied the son of the minister, the omega has been through so much to be loved and it showed. On the other hand, Jimin wasn't successful in any direction and it confused him when it drove him in endless circles. Carefully, Taehyung dried Jimin's tears and tried to comfort the omega who feared to marry.
"Don't cry... You know what that will lead to," warned the younger. Peering into the eyes of the omega. "That's the last thing you need, don't you?"
"You're right..." Jimin answered and dried his tears desperately. For the rest of the evening, Jimin finally returned home in silence, no longer wanting to fight for what he believed was right. The beautiful swan was now exhausted from shouting at others who heard him, but never listened.
The next morning was about the same, Jungkook awaited his muse at the river as an ongoing promise. Jungkook fixed his bamboo hat over his face by the river, suddenly noticing how hot the weather truly was. The sun beamed twice over the land and only a few people in the village were outside. Jungkook expected the river to be filled with guards bathing, but no one was by the warm rivers today. Jungkook gazed out the river and to the horizon of a burning day without his supplies to paint. The weather wasn't the best, but even on the hottest day of spring, Jungkook would still wait for Park Jimin.
As seconds slipped into hours, a shadow finally overcame Jungkook and that was when the alpha finally caught onto Jimin's addicting scent right behind him. The scent pierced through the alpha's nose even harder this time; like sweet honey harvested from the bees, like tea being brewed first thing in the morning. Not even the king himself, could ever hold back from the alluring scent he longed to keep.
"Hot day, isn't it?" Jimin asked and carried his oil-paper umbrella over to shade the alpha from the sun. "Even on a burning day like this, the markets are still open and the servants are still hanging laundry outside."
"So you decided to move in a little closer than usual, hm?" Jungkook asked and gave a smile right after.
"I don't care if your scent catches onto me anymore. You've waited for me here even on a hot day like this, the least I could do for you is hold a shade over you," added the omega until the alpha finally stood up to face him, making it hard for Jimin to hold the umbrella over the tall alpha. "You're making this hard for me! You alphas are very tall."
"Then, If I stand here in front of you, I will carry it for you," Jungkook spoke, holding his hand out to carry the umbrella. Jimin then looked down and passed the umbrella over to the alpha with a sweet grin. Not even taking a second to hesitate. "I already have a hat, so shading me is pointless."
"You're right... So now you will be holding my umbrella over me now," Jimin demanded and began to walk forward while the alpha followed along like a servant.
"Where are we going?" Jungkook asked, trying to keep up with the omega desperately.
"Far from here. It's too hot, I know a better place we can go to cool down," Jimin said. The omega couldn't hold back his smiles when it came to the alpha; Jungkook was different, he followed along blindly and that alone excited the son of the minister.
Jungkook was deeply charmed by Park Jimin; he followed the omega and made sure the sun wasn't able to shine one bit over the boy's pale skin. As Jungkook followed Jimin further and further away from the Silent River, the king began to wonder in the back of his head; was a quick trip outside the palace allowed for a king like him? Jungkook dared to find the answer while he tagged alongside the omega he grew close to. The village and the palace grew distant, all of the people were now distinguished from their view once they finally reached their destination. The two arrived at another river that was heavily shaded by trees, this river was secluded and a bit smaller than the Silent River; but it was perfect in Jimin's eyes and a new experience for the king.
The king stopped and helped Jimin down the steep paths to the river; carefully taking the first steps forward and looking back to offer the omega his hand.
"You'll get hurt if you're careless," Jungkook warned Jimin and watched the omega pull a slight smirk. "No games, take my hand."
"Very demanding, but don't belittle me," Jimin answered but before he could walk down the steps on his own, Jungkook playfully grabbed Jimin's hand and pulled him down, nearly making the omega fall. Within that quick second, Jungkook was able to capture the omega by his waist and pull him close before he fell over the steep path.
"Clumsy, aren't we?~" Jungkook teased and noticed how red Jimin's face grew once his eyes latched onto the alpha's fangs embedded within his smile.
"Y-You! You purposely pulled me so I can fall!" Jimin retorted, yet, he couldn't help but to laugh at how Jungkook was able to get his way. "Don't do that ever again," Jimin muttered and as soon as he noticed Jungkook's hands were tied to his waist, the alpha was sure to release him in seconds. Making sure their contact didn't last too long.
"You omegas are a handful," Jungkook teased and continued to hold the umbrella over Jimin's head. "Anyway, where are we?"
"This is the omega river," Jimin replied. "Where omegas escape to wash off any scents that could stick to them. I brought us here since I've already caught onto your scent, and... a little more privacy would be nice." With that, Jimin's face grew red as he let out a cute giggle right after, "The river is cold as well because of the trees shading most of it."
"Privacy..." Jungkook thought and smiled as the two stepped closer to the river. "I've never heard of a river like this for omegas, it must be very useful."
"It is. There is another, but that one is much closer to the village and much more popular. I come here often when I need to escape," Jimin confessed and right as he began to stare at the calm ripples to the river's current, he then removed his colorful silk shoes that had small flowers along the heels of the design (unhye shoes) to walk further into it. "Don't be scared, join me."
"It's a river for omegas... What will it do to an alpha like me?"
"The worst thing that could happen is your ability to sense anyone will be knocked out for a few hours or so. But, it's safe," Jimin assured and held his hand out to the alpha once more to signal him to join. "I won't ask you again, Yeong-Hwa."
"Alright," Jungkook replied. The younger then removed his own straw shoes along with Jimin and set them onto the solid ground before the river.
The ground beneath their feet was filled with soft stones that eased each step and the river was cold but also clear enough to see the small fishes swimming around them. Jungkook was mesmerized; the way the cold ripples of the river brushed by their pale calves, and the warm heat that surrounded them serenely. It was a feeling he longed to rediscover and experiencing this with Jimin, made Jungkook treasure this golden moment to himself.
"I can see why you find this place as an escape, do you come here often?" Jungkook questioned, looking into the eyes of the omega so thoughtfully.
"At times, I do. When I have a rough time at home, I come here to embrace nature and relax. It's way more soothing than walking it off at times," Jimin replied. With that heavy answer, Jimin held onto his skirt tightly and tilted his head to gawk at the alpha. "But this place isn't about complaining, I want to let go of that now. I love this place, I really do, but I don't want to complain here."
"I understand," Jungkook responded. Just then, Jungkook felt Jimin's hands tug onto his sleeve. "Jimin...?"
"Let go of the umbrella, let's have some fun!" Jimin giggled and as soon as Jungkook released the umbrella from his grip, it fell onto the water below them and began to float away from them. Their fingers interlocked and not a second passed them by as Jimin began to pull the alpha in a way to play with him.
"What if we get caught? I won't be able to sense anyone," Jungkook worried and slid his hands up to Jimin's wrists to stop him. "Your clothes are all wet now!"
"Who cares?" Jimin responded. "It's only the two of us now... no one can find us here, we're far from the village. Let loose for once!"
Without a second to lose, Jungkook took Jimin up on the offer and the two spent their time splashing around in the river together. Their clothes were soaked and even the omega's hair grew messy! The feeling of pure youth filled their souls and they couldn't feel any happier. Giggles filled the river and cute laughters followed after, Jungkook felt as if his bond with the arcane omega deepened by the seconds that slipped by so quickly.
Water clashed against their skin while their hands remained interlocked at that very moment. This was the privacy Jimin longed for, he wanted to spend so much time with his new friend and now, he finally had it in his clutches. The omega felt pure ecstasy and wasn't afraid to get close enough to the alpha, the boy didn't catch on to any scent and that's what he truly enjoyed. Spending endless time with someone who he truly longed to spend it with, not with any other alpha he had no idea about. It was no secret that now Jungkook felt that he could tell Jimin anything. It may have been a few days since they first met, but this diamond began to shine so bright in the rough, it was hard to ignore that their bond was close.
At the time Jungkook revealed more of himself to the omega, Jimin did the same as well. The two were different in many ways, but their long for touch grew stronger as they played at the river. Moments like these blossomed into true beauty, yet, it was obvious that it couldn't last forever. Jungkook still had yet to tell his muse who he truly was and the thought of revealing himself to the omega would always fly over his mind. There could never be a perfect moment to confess to the lovely omega. Jungkook just wanted this feeling that felt like sweven, to last forever.
While the duo spent their time playing at the river, Jung Hoseok was returning from a field. The alpha was making his way back to the heart of the village with a smile as he carried a woven bag of bamboo sticks and sugar canes.
"I can at least make Jimin another umbrella with these sticks... I bet he gets tired holding that old one," Hoseok thought. The alpha continued to walk forward when he suddenly heard giggles coming from a small river far behind him. "Omegas... Such charming creatures..."
Just as he continued to walk further down a stream to the river behind him, he suddenly noticed the familiar umbrella Jimin would carry around, was against a few rocks from the river's stream. The umbrella flowed from the omega river and managed to reach outside of the secluded area where it ended up being caught against a few rocks. Hoseok approached the oil-paper umbrella, picked it up by the bamboo stick, and inhaled the scent. The noble man picked up Jimin's sweet scent until... He caught onto a stray scent that grew sensitive to his nose.
All of a sudden, his smile died into a serious expression as his gaze then pointed towards the omega river where the alpha scent grew stronger in Hoseok's nose. Within seconds, Hoseok crushed the bamboo stick of the umbrella and his eyes bolted into the direction where the secluded omega river remained. Pure jealousy filled his mind where his smile once substituted before and his feet guided him to the river far up ahead. Carelessly, Jung Hoseok stepped over the broken pieces of Jimin's umbrella and gripped onto his woven bag, charging to the omega river to find Jimin and see who this mystery alpha truly was.
