Chapter 38: Second Thoughts
Jimin's eyes met with the alpha as he let out another sob before hugging him once more, happy to see that his king was awake after hours of keeping his eyes closed. Taehyung tilted his head and smiled at the couple reuniting after he helped along with his father to aid the king's wound. The sight Taehyung had over the two was heartwarming, being able to see Jungkook and Jimin's relationship up close, was enough to make him long for a love like this for himself.
"Oh Jungkook, you scared me!" Jimin cried and refused to release the alpha so the king could get a look into his eyes once again. "I-I thought I was going to lose you!"
"Ngh- Jimin," groaned the king. Running his hand to the center of his wounded chest to soothe the feeling just over the wrapped bandages. "I... I didn't... I didn't want to... leave...you..." Jungkook managed to whisper softly and then close his eyes tightly after.
"Shh... don't say another word, all you have to do is rest now, okay? If it hurts to talk, then only look at me and give me one of your beautiful smiles I adore so much," Jimin assured and kissed the king's forehead softly.
The omega knew how much pain Jungkook was in and could only wish to take half of it for himself just so the king wouldn't suffer alone. Jimin sat right by the king over the wide bed and held his hand while the king gave a weak smile to his omega. The king was paler than before after losing so much of his blood but now, he was able to stay strong at the sight of his partner. Since the king himself couldn't muster enough energy to speak, he only looked into the eyes of the one who anticipated every curve to his perfect smile even if he didn't have enough energy to do that.
"I managed to make it here because of Taehyung's father, he's the doctor that saved your life too!" Jimin whispered to his alpha and smiled before looking to his best friend from across the wide bed.
"I'm glad you are doing okay, My King," Taehyung assured and bowed at Jungkook laying over the bed. The young alpha smiled and turned his face away, longing to laugh and say something, but he knew if he could, a sharp pain would surface over his chest. "It will be better if you stay in bed for a week, no need to attend any selections, I bet that must be good news for you both, hm?"
"Ah, stop making him want to laugh! He's in pain," Jimin cooed and looked down at Jungkook once more. Caressing his face and looking him in the eyes once more. "You should stay in bed, don't worry about me, worry about yourself and your health."
"Jim-"
"Shh... I will be alright, I have this," Jimin answered and pulled his sleeve down to reveal the ribbon hugging his wrist. "I feel at ease just having this here by my side."
"Come on Jimin, he needs more rest. I think we should go now," Taehyung mentioned and looked at the silent head guard once more before looking at the older omega over the bed. "Let's leave now."
Suddenly Jimin felt the king's hand grip onto his wrist, showing that he wanted his omega to stay. On the other hand, Jimin knew if he did, Jungkook wouldn't get the rest he truly needed. Jimin softly placed his gentle fingers over his alpha's knuckles and leaned in to give it a peck. Knowing how clingy Jungkook would get any other second.
"No, I can't stay. As much as I want to stay with you and wake up to your charming face, I can't. I value you too much to see you suffer any longer during recovery because of me. Learn to be patient, and I will see you soon."
With the sound of Jimin's soothing voice sounding as close to a harp strumming the strings made of gold, Jungkook sighed carefully and released the omega with the only grip he had from the burst of energy. The color around the boy's nose grew red and his eyes grew testy and puffy with the thought of not being able to see Jimin at all after his injury. Jimin was his true remedy and the crisp air to his lungs. There was no way he would be able to pull through the week without feeling an ache over his heart.
Yoongi stood in silence as he watched the king communicate with only soulful glances and gentle touches on his omega. However, all Yoongi could think of was the stray arrow shot through Jungkook's chest. The thought of the boy laying over the ground, wheezing as his white hanbok dyed into a sharp crimson color, made Yoongi shutter at the vivid thought. If he didn't pick up the cold paintbrush and make his way to the field sooner, he would have lost the king there.
The terrifying feeling was enough to bring questions into the guard's mind. He paced forward and shut out the sounds of Jimin's giggles and Taehyung's words as he reached the bloody arrow set over the stained disguise that was once white and now red down the center. The silent man knew better not to bring up the traumatic moment towards the king once again, so he kept his thoughts to himself until Jungkook was finally strong enough to face this and take action.
Once Yoongi stood before the arrow, his hands fixed over the long stick that was cut off at the ends. Right as his gloved hands touched the dry blood over the arrow, he ran his thumb along it until it stopped right over the engraved lion design. His eyes examined every dent, every turn and curve within the design, he found this as a clue to who truly shot the king at the river earlier that morning.
At the same time, Hoseok sat within the Park Household; sitting on his legs and holding his head down as he waited for Mr. Park all day. He was aware that the man was out of town for the morning, but the servants allowed the young alpha in only to wait. After Hoseok shot Jungkook from the back with his arrow, he felt empty. He wanted to feel glee, but the only thing that came out was fear. The man couldn't stop trembling at the thought of his arrow biting through a living body of an alpha and sat there, questioning his motives.
"I-Isn't this what I wanted? Why aren't I happy?" Hoseok spoke to himself and rose his hands up to his gaze slowly. "I should be happy... Jimin is mine now.." as the man spoke to himself, he suddenly heard the door to the room slide open and in walked his future father in law.
"So, you're the one waiting for me?" Asked Mr. Park and stepped in before closing the door behind him. "Is this about Jimin, or your special mission?"
"Special...mission..."
"Good," spoke the man as he stepped in and paced around the young man. "Telling by the way you are silent and still, shows that you know something or did something you did not find rather charming at all."
"It's done... it's over now, I did it..." Hoseok spoke and felt his tears threatening to fall down his bright eyes.
"Congratulations, you've done it. Now, no one will stand between you and Jimin. Unless, you have any second thoughts?" Whispered the man and glided his fingers down his small goatee. Staring at the young man that was sitting and staring at the ground.
Hoseok thought back at that final question; his mind tossed the word around until those tears that threatened to fall, finally began to slide down his cheek.
"Y-Yes..." Hoseok spoke out and started to cry at the thought of murdering someone so innocent, all for love! The man couldn't help but to think he was a monster and couldn't give himself the satisfaction of being happy. No matter how hard he used love to pursue happiness and eternal glee, He couldn't trust it at all now that he made the biggest mistake of choosing greed over honesty.
"I told you that this job wasn't for you. Haven't you waited for my assassin to do the job, you wouldn't be feeling this way!"
"I WOULD STILL FEEL THIS WAY EVEN IF YOU HIRED AN ASSASSIN!" Hoseok yelled and shot his teary gaze at the man in front of him. His hands began to tighten against his silk pants and cause wrinkles to form over it. "I...I would feel the same way... what we agreed on isn't right in any way and it's not excusable!"
"Wouldn't you want Jimin to yourself?"
"I did but... you put those thoughts into my head to the point where I had no other choice left to go with! I was so angry from the things I saw! I didn't want to feel that jealous pain and now, I regret using it on a man who only loved when it was given to him, not me..."
"Jung Hoseok, you have everything you could ever ask for now. You have no reason to cry over this dead commoner, Jimin is yours to keep now!"
"I HAVE EVERY REASON!" Hoseok argued and kept his cold stare at the elder. "It's not right, it's not right to kill an innocent man. I left him there for dead and imagine Jimin stumbling upon his dead body, do you want him to be scared into my arms? Was your plan to traumatize him for loving someone?"
"You know he can't love that commoner..."
"But what are the odds of that commoner already having a family to return to?! Commoners marry early and who knows if he had an omega and pups?" Hoseok cried every word he spoke to the elder, but the cold man stood still at the sight of the young alpha. What he felt was no hesitation and no second remorse for his decision. What he did was final and perfect in his world, but not to Hoseok's.
"At the end of the day, he was a commoner that couldn't learn to stay within his boundaries. That is all. Now, once this marriage ban is lifted, Jimin will marry you and he will accept you as his alpha," Said the minister. Yet, Hoseok couldn't help but to feel disgusted. The words made his stomach turn and cause him to long for a remedy better than this.
"This is wrong..."
"Excuse you?"
"This is all wrong! I don't want to marry Jimin anymore, I want out of this engagement! Do you know how wrong it is to result in murder?! After shooting that man, I felt sick, I couldn't eat and no matter how many hours it has been after I killed him, I haven't seen Jimin once! How could he belong to a monster like me? How could a peach so sweet be born from a man like you?" Hoseok cried and once he tried to stand up for himself, Mr. Park swiftly brought him down with his hand shooting across his face. Slapping the man and making him feel even more of a wreck than before.
"You don't want to marry Jimin? What use are you to him then? All I ever wanted was to give my children the world but there are too many obstacles for perfection! Growing with so little, I could have only wished to be matched with someone so perfect, but I knew I had to work on myself to get to where I am now. I would kill for my own children to grow up and become successful themselves!" Mr. Park shouted and bolted his angry stare at the young man who cupped the side of his red cheek. "It's the least I could do for them after all the pain I've caused them... this is the only way."
A cruel man as the minister thought every part of his decisions were right. He agreed on many things on behalf of his children, but was his heart in every aspect of it? The question remained unanswered. He was obsessed with the fascination of giving his children the world to the point where it went over his head sometimes. Hoseok gazed at the man in true horror at how obsessive he truly was for the success of his children to the point where hurting someone else was taken into his consideration.
Of course, Hoseok was obsessed too. He was obsessed with the pursuit of happiness to the point where he did many questionable things that haunted him. He was engaged to an omega he forced himself to love in order to feel the fulfillment of life, but all he got in return was denial and regret. His actions weren't justifiable, but the best thing he could do to take steps into fulfillment and glee was to accept what he did was not excusable. Jung Hoseok then stood up and stopped cupping his face since the pain was just a mere thought from now. Then, the man left the household with every thought in him saying that was for the best and his long for happiness was to be found somewhere else other than here.
