Chapter 12: The Confession
"You what?!" Yoongi shouted out within the throne room as Jungkook paced around in fear. "You're finally going to confess? What have you done to the real King?" Yoongi chuckled in excitement as his eyes locked onto how anxious Jungkook seemed.
The king paced around the throne room, nervously tapping his fingers against the side of his red silk hanbok. Jungkook just couldn't focus on what Yoongi was saying while he planned out his confession tonight.
"Jungkook, you're doing the right thing," assured the guard. Yet, Jungkook only looked away and held his head into his shaky hands. "What are you afraid of?"
"A lot of things, Yoongi. I fear a lot of things and now, it's coming together to kill me."
"You're being overdramatic."
"Is this being overdramatic, Yoongi?" Jungkook spoke and held his shaky hand out towards the guard. "I'm petrified; completely overwhelmed with terror! What if Jimin doesn't see me the same? What if he sees me as a king he needs to obey? I don't want him to treat me so differently, I want him to see us as equals but given by my title, that chance is slim."
Jungkook then threw himself onto his throne, yet his hands resumed shaking at the thought. Could he really bring himself to confess? He knew he couldn't lie to Jimin now that their relationship has taken a different toll on their lives. Nothing was the same and now, Jimin expects an explanation at night.
"What caused you to make up your mind? Why is tonight the night?" Yoongi questioned and stepped closer to the anxious king.
"I... I-I kissed... I kissed him," Jungkook whispered and covered his mouth as he reminisced the warm moment from earlier. His face grew red as his mind travelled back to when he had Jimin underneath him like the dreams he would have. "One gentle kiss turned into something more. I couldn't put my finger on it, but he was slipping underneath and my fantasies took over. I wanted him so badly, his warm lips against mine and his body latching onto my own was enough to send shivers down my spine. He wanted more; he wanted love, but I couldn't bring myself to give him what he wanted. All because I didn't think it was right. He trusted me; someone who wasn't honest with him from the start."
"You are doing the right thing, Jungkook. Telling him the truth will set you free."
"It will set me free but, it can also fill me with regret. I wish this was simple, but the endless possibilities scare me. Jimin isn't just like any other omega, he's special. His scent means so much more to me and I know that has to mean something. It just has to."
"You're right, it does mean something to you. If an omega's scent sticks out to you personally, it means so much more than a friendship. You could be soulmates for all we know. Is it wrong to say you're desperate now?"
"From the very first moment I laid eyes on him, his scent stuck out to me for the longest. No wonder I couldn't get enough of him..." Jungkook contemplated how much Jimin's scent was significant to him. From the very beginning, his senses knew Jimin was truly the king's swan. "I'm not as desperate as I was before, if I was still desperate for Jimin, I would have had him underneath me longer, I would have loved him there but, I knew that wasn't right. He was swept up in the moment to even realize what he was doing."
"You've sustained yourself well, Jungkook. You made the right choice and I hope you are able to pull through and see Jimin tonight. Don't hold back, Jimin needs to know the truth," Yoongi advised and smiled at the king. He was proud of the young alpha and couldn't imagine how relieved Jungkook would feel after this.
"But one thing still haunts me, Yoongi."
"And what is that?"
"What happens after I confess who I am? Jimin is still engaged, what will he mean to me if I want him to be with me?"
"Only time will tell. I know how much you hate that response, but you need to keep an open mind. Anything can happen, Jungkook. So, tonight when you confess, you should be prepared for anything. Don't have high hopes since things won't always go as planned."
Yoongi was right. As much as Jungkook wanted to know what would happen right after, he had to keep an open mind towards anything. Jimin had an arranged marriage, yet, Jungkook just longed to spend the rest of his life with the swan. But of course, only time could tell.
As the night grew closer, Jungkook was sitting on his throne after a meal as he closed his eyes to calm his nerves down. His heart was beating faster than usual and sweat formed over his forehead just underneath the cap he wore as a king. Deep down, Jungkook mostly feared losing Jimin, he could barely bring himself to form any sentences by now.
The young king's plan was to arrive after Jimin and reveal himself right after. Jungkook couldn't focus at all and his mind wasn't at ease. He thought of Jimin feeling offended that he was lied to from the start and since they've grown closer over the many weeks that has passed, the truth was bound to hit harder than a dart.
While the sun was setting, Jimin sat in his room, going through the many paintings Jungkook had gifted him after the many mornings they spent together. Jimin's finger glided against the crease of every painting and his smile gleamed at every memory that came back to him when Jungkook would paint this right before his very own eyes. While Jimin reminisced, his face grew red from the fresh memory of their first kiss.
His body moved against the alpha and their hearts matched in sync. Jimin just couldn't neglect the heat he felt earlier and looked away just when his mind travelled to the moment when Jungkook pulled away.
"Why did he pull away? What seems so complicated? Did I give off the wrong signal all this time?" Jimin whispered to himself and let out a sigh. "Whatever it is, he will tell me tonight when the village has fallen asleep. Oh, how I wonder what made him stop what we had," Jimin thought and looked at the painting a bit further.
The quiet omega was then greeted by his younger brother, Park Jihyun, the younger wore a baggy, dark silk pants and a mint upper garment over his chest with his long hair let down. Jihyun was an alpha; an alpha that was already arranged to marry an omega who was the daughter of a well-known scholar of the town. Of course, that marriage wasn't discussed as of yet since the duo still had yet to reach their own heat and rut.
Jihyun stood at the entry of Jimin's room and smiled as he tied his own long hair up before speaking to his older brother. "Father was talking to your fiancé earlier. It seemed very serious."
"I don't care about that," Jimin replied and assorted the paintings together. "Father always sees Hoseok on a daily basis to discuss my behavior. You'll experience that too when her Father meets with you every day to discuss your omega's actions."
"No, Hoseok looked upset this time... I thought I heard something along the lines of, not wanting to marry," Jihyun added and stepped forward until he sat across from his older brother. "You can't lose this relationship, Father has risked too much damage to his reputation because of you."
"Mind your own business, Jihyun," Jimin scoffed and set the paintings away.
"The scent on those paintings doesn't seem to match Hoseok's. If you want someone else, just introduce him to Father, how hard can it be?"
"It's far more complex than that. You don't need to know everything about it," Jimin replied and looked down. "Why don't you have any issues with your arranged partner?"
"Because, I don't hold any expectations against her. I am happy we are arranged to marry and it will benefit us all greatly. It's a win for everyone!"
"But, do you feel it's right? Is your heart in it?" Jimin asked and watched his brother nod his head happily. "Of course... I have to be the odd one out of the family. Why me? Why not someone else?" The miserable omega continued and let out another sigh.
"You poor, poor, thing. You poor, ugly, little thi-"
"W-What? Ugly?!" Jimin exclaimed and touched his face so suddenly. "What's wrong with you?!"
"Now that I have your attention, I think you should bring the conversation up about this man to Father, maybe he'll love to meet this alpha," Jihyun suggested as Jimin removed his hands from his face and shook his head.
"No, you don't understand. Father would never want to speak with an alpha of my choice. Let alone, a commoner..."
"A commoner?! Oh, Jimin you really did it now. I can see why Hoseok was upset."
"Silence, it's not like he knows anyway. He probably complained to Father about how I never spend my time with him," Jimin retorted and stood up to hold his own hands together. "It's best if you leave me alone, Jihyun. This is none of your business. Father would never accept him."
"Alright, I won't interfere," Jihyun responded. It was quick for the younger to stop picking on the older omega because he knew how much stress Jimin was putting himself under. The younger brother just stood back and allowed Jimin to take control. He didn't want his older brother to feel neglected in the family when their parents already turned the other cheek on him.
Just as Jihyun was about to leave the room, Jimin thought about his plans to meet with the alpha and smiled to himself before gripping onto his brother's hand. "Jihyun," Jimin called out and pulled him away from the entry. "Can you do me a favor?"
"What is it?"
"Cover for me tonight. I don't want anyone to know I'm leaving."
"What? Where are you going?!" Jihyun questioned in worry as he watched his older, yet, smaller brother let out a giggle.
"Shh! I'm going to see the alpha I mentioned. But, please keep it a secret!"
The younger agreed and watched how happy Jimin reacted right after. It felt as if he had never witnessed his brother smiling so happily before. All the other alphas left Jimin miserable, but with this commoner, Jungkook seemed so different in the omega's eyes. Jihyun just couldn't say no when he noticed how much glee his brother had towards this mystery alpha.
Once all of the village fell asleep, Jimin was at the silent river; waiting for the alpha patiently. He trusted the boy with his all and risked everything showing up tonight. Meanwhile, Jungkook was staring into his reflection of the pond at his courtyard. He had a black cloak over his royal red robe. Tonight, he was revealing himself as Jeon Jungkook, not the commoner he disguised himself as before. At the very end of it, it all came down to Jungkook's confidence when it came to confessing.
The king left the palace and as he reached the river, he saw the silhouette of the beautiful omega from a distance. He picked Jimin's sweet scent up and smiled to himself before walking forward. Eventually, Jungkook felt his heart pound as every step he took, felt as if it weighed him down further into quicksand. This fear followed him up until now. With the sight of Jimin, he had regrets and guilt completely engulfed him before he could reach the omega.
Jimin stood facing the river and as soon as he heard the grass crush behind him, he knew this was the alpha he grew to adore. "Yeong-Hwa, Is that you?" Jimin asked as Jungkook quickly walked forward and covered Jimin's eyes. By there, the omega smiled at the scent of the younger and placed his smaller hands over the alpha's to feel his gentle grasps. "It is you. Tell me, why are you covering my eyes?"
"Just trust me. I don't want you to look until I say so, do you understand?" Jungkook assured. The omega then nodded his head and kept a smile plastered over his face. Just when the boy pulled away, Jimin continued covering his eyes in excitement as he felt Jungkook pull away further.
"Yeong-Hwa?"
"Don't call me by that name. Jimin, I... I-I haven't been completely honest with you." Jungkook said, breaking through the anxiety that filled the atmosphere. "I always wanted to tell you who I truly am but I put it off for the sake that our bond would deepen. Eventually it did and I let it slip my mind that I needed to tell you the truth..."
"W-What do you mean?" Jimin asked as the smile faded from his face, but he still concealed his eyes from the alpha. "I don't understand..."
"It's time I stopped hiding the truth from you. You deserve to know the real me." Jungkook answered and began to remove the cloak; revealing his red robe and the black cap over his head as his crown. Jungkook adjusted the belt over his waist and let out an exhale as he stood behind Jimin. In any moment, Jungkook was going to reveal who he was and the feeling only dared to torture him further. "Jimin, my name is not Yeong-Hwa and I am not a commoner."
"You're joking, right?" Jimin asked. With that, he felt the alpha pull his hands away from his face. Jimin's gaze locked onto the river up ahead and still felt the younger hold onto his hands tightly. "Please tell me this is all a joke..."
"Just...turn around," Jungkook whispered against the omega's ear. With only the anxious sound of Jungkook's heart beating, Jimin turned around and his gleaming eyes locked onto the young king right before him. "My name is Jeon Jungkook and I am the King... Not a commoner."
