Chapter 3
As I have said in my other book, I will not be naming chapters anymore. Anyway, I hope you enjoy chapter 3!
Jessamine-
Though the dramatics were unnecessary, they did seem to shake the nobles up a bit, at least that was the last thing I saw before we teleported away in a cloud of purple smoke.
I can't think of anything else, we are back in Moonwinter, we are safe. Only when I opened my eyes did disappointment cloud my mind. We weren't in Moonwinter, we were in some room someplace else. The only good thing that could come out of this would be the possibility of safety, which I didn't even know existed here.
I looked around, the six of us were all in here, the only people missing were my aunts, which worried me until the door opened and they walked in.
"Welcome to our home!" They say, their wings flaring with excitement.
"Wait, you were supposed to bring us back to Moonwinter! You took us to Queenstown?" I asked.
"No we would never go back to Queenstown. We took you all someplace safer. Welcome to the hidden Kingdom of the Fairies! The Queen wishes to seek an audience with our Queen and King about something special. Feel free to roam about the house and the city. Jessamine and Flynn, may I speak with you in the hall?" Aunt Lane asks, me and Flynn nod, and walk out of the room hand in hand.
The hall is large and defiantly full of family portraits and things you would normally show off to guests, but what unsettled me was the look on my aunt's faces before they started talking.
"There may have been one thing we forgot to mention before you took the crown." Aunt Jane says, her face the most ashamed that I have ever seen it.
"And what might that be?" Flynn asks, speaking where I couldn't.
"There is a rule, more like an unbreakable tradition, that has been in place since the second queen of Moonwinter. The rule, however, states that the queen must be married within five days after she is coronated. It has already been one day, you have four days left." Aunt Lane said, caution seeping odd each of her words.
My jaw dropped, when I looked over at Flynn, I saw that even he looked shocked, but he did not look worried.
"I'm sorry for all the delay and everything, but may I talk with Flynn before we make a decision like this? I mean, this is a huge deal, and you should have told us earlier. All is forgiven, but if there is something that big happening you should tell me." I say, my voice wavering with worry and fear.
"Of course." My aunts say, then they scuttle into the room to check on the others.
"I'm so sorry Flynn. I never meant for this to go this far, you were never supposed to be dragged into this. I have already practically forced you into the crown, I cannot force you into this. I will give up my title if you do not-" I was stopped by Flynn.
"We are in this together, always remember that. If this is what we have to do, I'll comply and do whatever it takes to make this right. I don't care if I myself have to fight in this war. If that means it will make you happy and keep you safe, I will do it."
"You can't possibly mean that." I say completely shocked, he moves closer in response.
"But I do."
"I don't want to force or pressure you into doing this for my own kingdom's sake."
"And you aren't. I'm offering, and before you ask me, I'm absolutely serious. We are already engaged, so we have an extra day." He laughs.
"You really want to do this?" I ask. He moves closer once more, taking my waist in his hands and pulled me closer.
"With all my heart." He leans in, and kisses me, more passionate than in that alley before we took off.
I lean in as well, basically melting into him as the kiss deepens. We both pull away when we hear a small whisper coming from behind me. Sure enough, like always, Stella and Luke are on the other side of the open door, observing. I wave my hand and the door slams shut, pushing them back. I hear a laugh coming from behind the door.
"Well, I guess we should tell them. Though I think they already know." Flynn says, the tiniest bit short of breath, his eyes flaring with intensity and love.
"Yah, we probably should tell them should we? Or, we can wait until dinner tonight to tell everyone to make it more fun." I say, still allowing myself to be held by Flynn, who laughs at my retort. His rich laugh fills the hallway, joined by my own laugh a second later.
A minute of laughing later, I finally pull Flynn's hands off of my waist, signaling that it was time to go get ready and see everyone. "God your hands are cold." I say, jesturing to the dress that I had worn to the dinner with the King. Though it was just a comment to get Flynn to laugh. It worked, his rich laugh filling the hallway as he reached for the handle on the door. When he opened it, Stella and Luke came crashing down onto the floor. My best guess was that they were listening through the door and didn't hear the door handle jiggle, or they heard the handle but didn't move out of the way in time.
"So. Have you decided?" Aunt Jane asks, her face riddled with excitement.
"Yes." I say, nudging Flynn to tell him to announce what we decided, but he nudges me back, telling me to do it instead.
"And?" Stella asks eagerly, practically bouncing with excitement.
"Stella will you come wedding dress shopping with me?" I ask, smiling, announcing the final decision to everyone with a simple comment.
Instead of a straight answer, all I get is a shrill shriek that makes all of us cover our ears. After Stella is done screaming like a feral creature, she runs up to me, almost knocking me over to give me a hug. Luke walks over to Flynn and pats him on the back in congratulations. Both of my aunts, Thea and Asena walk over to me Asena asking to come shopping with me, and my aunts and Thea to congratulate me.
"So can I, can I?" Asena asks, her face lighting up.
"Of course you can Asena. Thea, Aunt Lane, Aunt Jane, would you like to come too?" I ask.
"I'm sorry Jessamine, we won't be able to go. We have some important business to attend to. But we will be at your wedding." Aunt Lane says, her face regretful.
"I'll go if Asena goes. I don't want her to wander off. Besides, I am your grandmother, I should go anyway. I didn't even think to think that we were related." She exclaims.
"I never thought of that either." I say, laughing at my lack of thinking.
After what seems like hours of talking, we break and I was finally able to take the King's dress off. So glad that I could get the red abomination off of me, though I did get used to and like the style, I didn't want anything of my father's. As thoughts wreaked my mind, Stella came waltzing into the massive closet, ready to get her massive heap of fabric that they called a dress off.
"What do you think you are going to wear?" she questions.
"I don't know yet. Though it has to be something that a queen would wear." I say, looking all throughout the closet full of clothes that must have been our mother's.
"What about this one?" Stella asks, holding up a simple long-sleeved green dress.
"That looks too plain. That is more for walking around the Kingdom, not meeting the Fairy Queen." I say, pulling out a navy colored dress that looked like it flowed in the wind.
Knowing that it was just simple enough, and seemed to be my size, I tried it on. It was a perfect fit, and it was simple but elegant enough to meet someone important in. Once I decided that I looked decent, and after a few minutes of Stella fixing my hair up to look semi-decent, I walked out of the closet, and waiting for me was everyone else. Just as fast as the door opened I was by the side of the three people I would be meeting the Queen with, Aunt Lane, Aunt Jane, and Flynn, all of which had gotten cleaned up in the time that I did.
Both of my aunts were no longer dressed as maids from the King's castle, but instead look like nobles, and Flynn fixed his hair and changed into some other formal clothes that I have no clue where they came from.
We were led outside where we could finally get a good view of my aunts house, it was massive, a true estate, and it was a block away from where the magnificant castle stood. Which gave me an idea, though a carriage waited just feet away.
"Why don't we walk to the castle? It has to be only a block away." I say, pointing towards the magnificant towers in the close distance.
"Because her majesty herself sent this carriage and you are wearing heels, so get in." Aunt Lane, said.
I sadly complied, and got into the carriage where my aunts gave me a rundown on what to expect.
"There are rules about this place that we will have you follow because we will not be in the room with you to guide you through this. Rule one, you are to greet the Queen as either 'your highness' or 'your majesty' and always remember to bow or curtsy. Rule number two you are not to speak unless you are spoken to or told otherwise. Rule three, don't go anywhere near the Queen, it is seen as a sign of disrespect unless she confronts you first. Rule number four, don't say anything that she might disagree with as this will start a fight that you do not want. And finally, Rule number five, stay level headed and calm, she is one of the nicest people in all of the continent of Erith, so no need to be scared." Aunt Jane says, laying down guidelines.
"So you won't be with us." I say.
"No, she has only called for an audience with you two not you two and us, and we must comply with her wishes. She already knows of your situatiton, so some things might come up that you might not want to talk about. Oh! We are here!" Aunt Lane exclaims, practically jumping out of the carriage.
"Are you ready?" I ask Flynn, who stares at me.
"As ready as I'll ever be." he responds, giving me a quick kiss on the cheek before he gets out of the carriage to help me out.
"We will be in the gardens should you need us." Aunt Jane said before walking away.
The castle truly is beautiful, and its front lawn is full of flowers and happy people who stroll about the gardens. This is a place that I had only heard of in children's stories, and it was like I was a small child again, trying to take everything in before the reader switched to the next page. When we make it to the giant wooden front doors, they are opened by two men, who bow when me and Flynn pass by. Beyond the front doors was a throne, and on that throne, sat the Fairy Queen, her long wings hanging in the air, and her blonde hair flowing like a waterfall down her shoulders.
Once we walk a little farther, about half of the long room, we stop and I curtsy and Flynn bows. When I look up, I saw that the Queen had sat up and was approaching us, not saying a word as she did so. I struggle to find words, but I remember my aunt's rules before I can say anything.
Then the Queen herself stops and curtsies, "Your Highness, welcome to my kingdom. I hope you find it just as beautiful as your own. You must be wondering why I sent your aunts to find you." She says, trying to start conversation.
"I have pondered on that for a few minutes but nothing more Your Majesty. It is an honor to be invited into your kingdom, as from what I have heard such an honor is a rare occurence. " I say, almost as level-headed as when I met my parents.
"I'm afraid that I cannot trust many these days, as you can imagine." she moves closer. " How are you holding up? I heard about your mother and your father. I am so sorry about your loss and your situation with your father."
"I could be doing better Your Majesty, but can we please not dwell on the past? I am afraid that I no longer associate myself with that of my father, and I would rather not talk of what has happened to me in this last two months." I say, trying my best not to sound rude.
"If you don't want to talk about it, that is all right, I completely understand. It is hard for me to talk about your mother as well, as she was my best friend. She made a comment that has always stuck with me, and that is why you are here." The Queen says, sadness woven into her voice, she took a breath. "She said that if either your or your sister were to be married, that she would have the wedding here, and from what I have heard there is need of a wedding, as a Queen needs to be married either before or a few days after she is crowned, and I intend to provide that for you. I also intend to talk about an alliance between our two kingdoms." She said, walking back towards her throne, gesturing us to come with her.
"You would be willing to help us?" I ask, shocked.
"Of course, anything for my best friend's daughters Your Highness." She responded, walking out of the throne room, her wings were fluttering as excitement overcame her.
"Thank you so much for your help Your Majesty. You may call me Jessamine, as I am not used to my title as of yet."
"I suggest that you live here while we plan everything. I will have clothes made for both of you to wear and a gorgeous room for you two set up in a few minutes. For now, let us discuss what you want out of your wedding, as everything needs to be done fast. Since I will be calling you by first name, it is only fair that you do the same. You may call me Celeste." She says, walking into what looked to be the dining hall.
"So to begin the planning, what kind of food would you like at the reception, and what theme do you want the wedding to be?" The Queen asks, sitting at the head of the table.
I sat in the seat to her right, as she motioned to the two seats next to her on both sides. Flynn and I looked at each other, our faces painted with surprise as the Fairy Queen talked of wedding arrangements, dresses, brides maids, grooms men, and traditions that we had to uphold. One tradition in which we had to release a lantern into the sky the night of the ceremony. It took hours to finally figure everything out, but eventually we were all released back into the bustle of the rest of the castle.
Before we leave the room, Queen Celeste decides to make some other plans for the day. "There will be a carriage arriving in a hour to take you, me, and your brides maids to the dress shop to look for the perfect dress. For now I will have someone take you to your room."
We are then released from Celeste's constant questioning about colors and themes, a butler then leads both me and Flynn to our room, which is a gorgeous suite near the base of the enormous northern tower. The room is extravagant, with its painted ceiling, and its beautiful canopy bed that looks so inviting that I try the opportunity to crash into it.
"Don't you dare. You actually look decent right now, no need to get your hair and makeup messed up." Flynn laughs, grabbing me before I could start running towards the bed.
"But Flynn." I draw out, trying to tempt him to let me go.
"Fine. Be careful. I do not have the ability to do hair, so don't ruin yours."
I let out a rebel screech that sounded like a pterodactyl combined with the pits of hell, and bolted towards the bed, jumping into the air when I got close enough the the giant, plush bed. Just as I was about to hit the bed, I was stopped by Flynn once more.
"I knew I couldn't trust you with jumping on the bed." He laughs, out of breath from chasing after me for the five yards that separated the bed and the door.
"You had to wait until I was an inch away from the bed though?" I ask, trying to pry myself away from him, though to no avail.
"You want to get onto the bed? Fine." He says, fake dropping me the rest of the way until I was on the bed.
"You have a hour to relax. Then you have to leave. You haven't gotten any sleep since we all woke up in the Tyrant's dungeon. Rest for a few minutes." He says.
He starts to move toward the door, already facing away from me.
"And were do you think you are going?" I ask.
"Anywhere."
"This is the only room we were given. You haven't slept either. I can tell, you may be able to hide it well Flynn, but you can't hide it from me. The four of us have been with each other for so long now that I know when you guys are acting weird. Stay here. We can take a nap." I say, patting the bed right next to me.
"I'm fine, really. I've can go days without sleep. Trust me, I've done it before." He says, trying to conceal a yawn at the mere thought of sleep.
I stare at him as he turns around for a second to help hide the yawn that showed the truth to his lie.
"Flynn, please. I know you better than you think. You are exhausted, and before you protest you aren't a good liar. At least come lay down. We both deserve to rest." I say, biting back a yawn of my own.
He grumbles in protest as he makes his way over to the bed, but plops down on the bed just as I had hoped to do moments before, though less peacefully. He settles down next to me, exactly like the night in Dalry, with his arms around me, guarding me as if we weren't safe, though we were as safe as we can get.
"Not a good liar, huh? I thought that was one thing that I was pretty decent at." Flynn jokes.
"Let's just say that I can read people that I am around with a lot. Stella is probably the worst liar ever, she has so many tells you can probably tell when she lies. Luke is like you, a descent liar, but has one tell, which is that he drums or moves his fingers anywhere when he lies. You only have one tell, you tense the tiniest bit when telling a lie. You tense so little that it is almost impossible to see, but if you lie around someone enough, they will start to notice a little."
"I'll have to work on that. Anyway, we have one hour." He yawns, starting to drift off.
Within seconds of his last yawn, he was fast asleep. I followed soon after, sleeping safely and soundly for the first time in over a month and a half.
