(Pic of the books Link reads---->) I also want to thank you all for reading this! (1.8K readers! O.o)

The run I had last night took my mind off the possibility of something being wrong with my blood. I was met with no blinking lights and no interruption during my run so I figured it must all be good. That explains why I am now at the clinic at 08.00 am in the morning the next day, the doctor called me at half past seven telling me my results were in and if I wanted to come down for a full explanation. Well I always rather wanted to hear those kinds of things in person than over the phone. "Thank you for coming in this early in the morning." The doctor patted the examination table where I gingerly sat down. "Don't worry, Mister Monroe. It's all good news!" The cheerful sound of the doctor sounded in my ear. I was surprised that the results were in so quickly but I wasn't going to complain.

When I got there, Roland was there too. I was told that he was present every time a new employee was being tested and the results were in. It was also the quickest doctor's visit I ever had in my life. Roland wrapped his arm about my shoulders as he grinned "Come with me back to the club and we can talk about your schedule of work." Not surprisingly we walked from the clinic to the club, once there I met one of the most famous trans-performers group. They were pretty interesting, and quite confusing to me. I didn't know how to properly behave around them. They just laughed and were overall nice as they wished me good luck as Roland and Bear tugged me along up to the control room. We spoke lengthy for a few hours, making sure that there were no mistakes. Since both were off duty today, I invited them over to my apartment.

Bear and Roland looked around curiously at the sparsely furnished apartment. Bear grinned as he noticed the book lying on the table. "You read it?" I flushed a little, "Yeah I did, it was pretty informative." Bear put the book back into his bag and smiled in thanks as I put down the tray with several damping cups of coffee. "Have you been around the neighbourhood?" Roland asked; I had learned that he and Bear lived in the same neighbourhood. "Yeah, I went around the big park behind the complex but haven't been to the centre or anything yet."

"You are quite the reader aren't you?" Bear said as he walked over to the massive bookcases that dominated the wall besides the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the park behind the complex. "One of my sins." I admit, looking fondly at the masses of books I collected in my years on the force. "Well, now is a good time as any for you to go to the centre. We need to get you suited up for the job and I made an appointment with a tailor for you. So let's get going." We all piled into Roland's car; a beautiful sleek and silver Mercedes.

The centre was like any other town centre; it had several supermarkets, restaurants, a tattoo/piercing parlour, a jewellers, a bookstore, a kink store, pharmacists, a furniture store, pet store and a tailors. The tailor was housed in one of the older more imposing buildings in the whole centre. A copper bell sounded as Roland pushed the door open and motioned me to come inside, "You can go to the bookstore after this." He grinned as I had to force myself to turn back to him.

"Master Roland, Master Bear, what a lovely surprise." A woman in her late forties, early fifties came from a door wearing a measuring tape around her neck. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw me "Mrs. Mercury, please meet Lincoln Monroe our newest employee." Ronald introduced her, "Nice to meet you ma'am." I shook her dainty hand. She narrowed her eyes slightly as she took in my posture. "Mrs. Mercury and her husband own the tailor shop." Roland said as he and Bear said down in two leather seats near the fitting booths. After fitting numerous jeans and shirts, Mrs. Mercury finally selected five outfits she thought were the best fit for me. She grumbled under her breath about Scots and their unnatural sizes. I didn't say anything but meekly paid the tab and lifted the two bags she handed me. "Have a good day, Master Roland, Master Bear and Mister Monroe." Mumbling the same under my breath I finally heaved a great sigh as we left the stuffy shop.

Dropping the bags in the trunk of Roland's car I made a beeline for the book shop. It was a beautiful shop; it was in a same style building as the tailor's and much to my secret pleasure they had floor to ceiling bookcases with movable ladders. If it weren't for Roland and Bear breathing down my neck, I would have spent a lot longer than we did. I had found a book that was missing from my favourite series of Ilona Andrews: The edge and Kate Daniels. Bear and Roland just looked at me weirdly as I purchased the books. Even the person behind the check-out raised her eyebrows but smiled and wished me a happy reading. I guess nobody expected a big bulky guy like me to be into those kinds of books. Shrugging all the looks we stepped out, checking his watch Roland "Anything else you need before we drop you off?" I bit my lip as I mentally went through everything. "Yeah, I need to get some groceries and then I will be good for a few days." I need some ingredients for dinner and some household products like bleach, toilet paper, a razor, shaving cream, aftershave.

Buying groceries of at least a few hundred dollars' worth - I am a big eater; we left the groceries and made our way to my apartment. Both men helped me carry the stuff up to my apartment, with one last promise for a tour through the apartment both left, with their phone numbers on a piece of paper on the counter near the groceries. I was busy with putting away the groceries when the phone rang, which was weird since nobody besides my parents had it. Cautiously I answered it "Monroe speaking." It was silent for a while; I could just hear someone breathing. "Lincoln?" My mother's soft voice sounded just as cautious as I was. "Hello momma." I heard her sigh of relief; me and my dad sound a lot alike, just like my other brothers do. "I had called earlier but no one was home. How are you baby boy?" I rolled my eyes at her words, no matter how old I am, I will always be her baby boy. "I am good momma, I went out shopping today, and I went to a tailor's to get my new clothes for my new job. I got some groceries and some new books."

Mothers amused laughter rang through my ear, "You were always the one to sit quietly in a corner with a book." I grumbled something under my breath just for the sake of it. I knew my mother meant nothing by it, she was just stating how I was when I was younger. Even though I was an outdoorsy type of person; like everybody else in my family, I could also curl up in front of a roaring fire and lose myself in a book. "Well I am glad you're okay and that you have a new job." My family had been worried about the fact I left the force, it had been my dream to join it when I was a little boy. They feared I would become depressed and might never get over it. It still smarts, but I am slowly getting over no longer being on the force.

We talked a little longer before she had to go, Ferguson; my immediate older brother was coming over for dinner and she needed to get cooking. With one last goodbye we hung up and I got back to putting away my groceries. When that was done I had two choices; curl up on the couch and read my newly purchased books or cook dinner and after that curl up to read. My stomach growled in answer to the question so dinner it is. I was cleaning up the washed dishes when m phone rang once again, who could that be? "Monroe speaking." I just snapped the dishwasher close as the person on the other side made their presence known. "Hi, Link. This is Patrick." His voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it at the moment. Patrick chuckled lightly "It's Bear." He stated as if he knew I was wonder where I had heard his voice before. "I was wondering if you wanted to go out and grab a beer. Just a few, I need to work tomorrow. It will also be a great way for you to meet some people who just life here but aren't in the business." As if he sensed my unwillingness to go he rushed on "I understand completely if you don't want to, we can do it some other time."

I looked one more time longingly at my books, "No, it's okay. I'll go." Bear sounded relieved, I think he was counting on me rejecting it. "Great! I will pick you up in ten minutes!" I blinked as the dial tone sounded in my ear; just realising I had no clue what to wear. I decided to wear a decent pair of jeans and a plain dark blue t-shirt. I was quietly relieved when Bear appeared a few minutes later in front of my door in a similar outfit. He had a big grin plastered on his face "Ready to go?" I checked my pockets for my wallet and keys before nodding my head and closing and locking my door.

The bar we went to; Jonny's was okay. Bear was a regular and knew a lot of people, who were all interested in me. Bear had never taken someone with him when he came here they told me, this was the only places his dates never saw the inside from. I blushed a little as they said I was his date. That had me wondering about Bear, did he find me attractive? If so why didn't he say anything? "He might look big and intimidating, but he's a big softy on the inside." Tony - one of his friends said as I looked in question at Bear, who was at the bar getting us another beer. Bear just smiled as he made his way over with in each hand a beer. "What's up?" He sat down on a chair opposite mine. Tony took one look at me and left us. "Your friends told me you never bring anyone here that you date." Bear started to blush, playing with his glass. "It's not that I mind, I mean I - I just don't know how to handle this." I finished lamely.

To my relief Bear grinned, "I am sorry they are a little overprotective of me. Just like any other I had my bad times and good times, it's all good though." It makes me wonder if Bear ever looked too deep in his glass and what it was that made him look that deep. He gulped down the rest of his beer, as did I. "Ready to go?" Paying my half - I insisted, I nodded my head. We said goodnight to the rest and walked back to my apartment. The friendly atmosphere returned after that awkward talk, I felt no need to pry - Bear will talk to me when he's ready.

"But I will only go with a goodnight kiss." His eyes shone mischievously, making me laugh. "Sure." I pulled him by the back of his neck and crashed our lips together. Surprising the both of us with the move "See you around Bear." I even winked as I disappeared behind my door. Bear's deep rumble of laughter followed him as he made his way out of the building. I knew down in my gut that we would be great friends.
