Chapter XIV. Distant Dream

It was late at night and Arturia went up to the Astronomy Tower in a silent way, again the dreams flooded her mind after a long time. Her bare feet were cooled by the pavement and the icy wind that blew. On her wrist she had the special permission granted her by Dumbledore, clearly on the condition of not showing it and only using it when she had a bad dream, after all he wanted to avoid getting her in trouble again.

Finally she had come to stand by the railing, while looking at the beautiful view that the place offered. The breeze played with her golden hair and managed to cool her skin. She closed her eyes for a moment, reveling in the cold sensation.

Since she saw the hill of Camlann in the cDefense Against the Dark Arts class, she was thinking back to her past when she was desperately trying to forget that and focus on her student life while it was time to fight that terrible monster with a thousand tentacles . She had become happy and calm, forgetting her life as a king, until that damn vision reminded her again. Guilt again come to her and this time there was no grail to fight to fulfill her wish. Little by little she opened her bright eyes, watching the beautiful full moon that night offered.

"Oh, hear my prayer, bright moon on high, carry my soul in your lonely light." She whispered as she clasped her hands.

She knew that it wouldn't be so easy to get rid of her destiny. Again and again she was condemned to be called by the grail for a war. Being a heroic spirit was her duty and she knew that her desire would never be fulfilled by the selfishness of the Holy Grail.

She remained silent, holding her hands together. She relaxed by the cool breeze that snorted. She held on to the wall to sit on the railing crossing her legs. Once again she closed her eyes, before her sweet voice began a song.

"A profile, floating in the waves of my memory, slides through my fingers. The scene swaying in the heart's haze; even as an illusion, it is a lovely thing" At that moment she remembered how she got Caliburn out of the stone that afternoon. "Not even understanding the meaning of tears, a misfortune that could be called 'happiness'. These fragments of pain that words can not express overflow from my eyes." Tears slid down her cheeks as she remembered the hill of Camlann. "Distant dream, I can still see you now, as the moments weave into eternity. I only entrust this thought to a prayer and forever compose a smile." She stopped a moment. "I only ask for strength immaculate, overcoming pain and doubt." That really was what she needed to overcome her sorrows. Her hand formed a fist. "The inevitability of our meeting, the mutual tenderness, dyed my heart." At that moment she remembered the smiling face of Bedivere. "Distant dream, I see you though I wake, overlying them, the fleeting moments tie together. The sky I see above continues on to you, however far away."

"Miss Pendragon."

That serious voice made her lose focus and lose balance. Her hand slipped and she felt her body fall. Her face reflected horror.

"Arresto momentum." She heard.

She stopped in the air, before feeling a pair of arms carry her. Her eyes rested on the person who had arrived. Severus Snape.

"P-Professor." She was a little surprised to see him.

The man observed how the girl's face was wet with tears and her eyes watery, while her thin lips trembled. Those moments of fragility in her made him want to protect her and protect her in a crystal ball where no one could harm her.

Why was it so inevitable to him be attracted to a student? It was ridiculous and impossible. It was then that he felt the thin and frail arms of the girl surround him to hug him tightly.

Arturia was somewhat grateful that Snape was there. It was curious how he was always there to comfort her after every dream that reminded her of her past, telling the fact that he saved her from a horrible fall.

"Why sometimes dreams are so horrible and tortuous?" The blonde asked hiding her face on the teacher's shoulder. "Every time I want to forget my past, it always comes back to me in my dreams."

Snape kept silent. Now he understood a bit of the song that Arturia sang. Yes. He had gone to the Astronomy Tower because he was attracted by a soft and beautiful voice sing a sad song and was somewhat surprised to see Arturia sing. He enjoyed each note despite the nostalgia that it reflected, but he realized then that it wasn't appropriate for her to be there. He never imagined that she was so absent so that calling her would make her lose her balance.

He preferred to keep quiet, as he led the girl to the Gryffindor common room. He wasn't going to reprimand her, he just held her in his arms, while the girl still clung to him, feeling calm and protected in a certain way.

Once in front of the Fat Lady, Snape lowered Arturia. The little king looked into his eyes, those deep and dark tunnels so mysterious.

"Thank you Professor." She said while smiling slightly before entering her common room.

That smile and gratitude managed to have a strange effect on him. He wasn't sure if he could contain himself the next time they were alone.
