Welcome to Jurassic Park

The next morning, as the sun rose from the eastern side of the island, Rexy woke up bright and early.

Before she could get up and leave, Rexy turned around to see that Kratos was still asleep and his tail, intertwined with hers.

So, she decided to stay with him for a while, even though she didn't exactly trust him, nor did he trust her.

Despite their distrust for one another, the two adult Tyrannosaurs decided to remain on a united front. Especially since Rexy noticed how much better Kratos had been sleeping. Although she didn't know how the male managed to find enough peace to sleep so deeply, Rexy was rather glad to see that his nightmares weren't as frequent as they were when Kratos first arrived.

So, she ended up cuddling with the male next to her and rested for a little longer, though she started to slowly blush inside as she stared at the male who was sleeping quite peacefully.

A few minutes later, Kratos slowly blinked his eyes open.

"(Yawns). What's going on? What am I doing?" Kratos asked.

Rexy turned and smiled at him. "Relax, Kratos. You and I were resting together last night. And just a few minutes ago, I happened to notice that you were sleeping a lot better than usual."

Both Tyrannosaurs stared at one another and blushed with embarrassment.

Kratos seemed to come to his senses a little faster than Rexy did. "Yes. Now that you mention it, I did feel more at peace than I did while trying to sleep alone. I don't know what was going on but, every time I tried to sleep by myself, I ended up being plagued by nightmares about the loss of my family. But when I slept with you, those nightmares were replaced by strangely sweet dreams about you and I living together."

"As mates?" Rexy asked in confusion, yet she seemed to understand where the male was coming from. Last night when he initially tried to sleep by himself, Kratos mumbled in his sleep about his mother and siblings.

Kratos nodded. "Yes, as mates. Initially, I swore to never mate with a female as I did not want my traumatic past to repeat itself. And that is why I've always attacked any female that tried to mate with me back home. I guess you can say that I was trying to keep history from repeating itself. But when I met you, I felt a surge of hope. So even though I never expressed it openly, I thought that perhaps mating with you wouldn't be as bad as I thought. And since we're on a completely different island, maybe I won't have to worry as much about losing you, or our offspring. But I didn't want to go that far until we were both ready."

Rexy smiled. "I appreciate your honesty, especially now that I know the reason behind your aggression from when we first met. But, I still can't understand why you have repetitive nightmares of the deaths of your family."

Kratos frowned. He knew that this was coming. Mustering up as much emotional strength as he could, the male T-rex decided to explain his past to Rexy.

"It is because my family really was murdered in cold blood. And it all happened before my very eyes. My mother's name was Aphrodite, and my father whom I never met was Hephaestus. My siblings and I were there sole survivors of a clutch of twelve eggs after our father was killed by an adult male Spinosaurus named Zeus. Zeus was accompanied by his brothers, Hades and Poseidon. With help from my mother, Hephaestus managed to kill Poseidon while Aphrodite badly injured Hades. But Zeus managed to kill my father while my mother escaped. Eventually, she laid twelve eggs, but eight of them got carried off by raptors. I had two brothers and a sister. My brothers' names were Hermes and Hercules, while my sister was named Athena."

Rexy's smile faded as she began to feel sympathetic for the male, as he continued on. "After my mother had named us, Hades appeared on the scene since he had been tracking my mother down alongside of Zeus. Hades was alone at the time, but he killed my mother while my siblings and I escaped into the denser parts of the jungle of Isla Muerta. Over the course of time, we all trained hard to prepare ourselves for battle. Hercules was the biggest and strongest member among us while my younger brother Hermes was the fastest. I was close behind my older brother when it came to size and strength. We managed to track down Zeus and Hades, and ambushed them. After Hades killed Hermes, I went to help Athena while Hercules kept Zeus busy. We managed to do some heavy damage, but Athena met her end when Hades slit her throat with his claws. Outraged, I attacked him in a blind fury and mortally wounded him. But before I could go to help my big brother, it was too late. Zeus mortally wounded Hercules before I could do anything. This made me even angrier than before, so I went after Zeus and brutally attacked him. Zeus was left with a badly broken leg and I forced him to watch as I killed his brother before his very eyes."

Rexy couldn't believe what she was hearing. Kratos was happy with his family before these two Spinosaurs came and attacked them.

"Zeus did manage to get away for a while, but I eventually tracked him down and finished him off. For the next few months, I was completely unchallenged by anyone. That was until some humans came to my island and captured me. Ever since the day I was captured and brought here, I have hated humans with a burning passion. And right now, I would like nothing more than to rip them apart."

Rexy stared at Kratos sadly. She felt sorry for the male since he lost his mother at a very young age, only for his siblings to be killed some years later by one of the same Spinosaurs that attacked them. "I'm sorry to hear that, Kratos. It must be difficult for you knowing that your brothers and sister were murdered while there was nothing you could do to save them."

Kratos nodded. "Yes, it is. The only comfort I have of that now, is knowing that I have avenged the deaths of my mother and siblings. I have been trying to move on, but the nightmares will not leave me. And you're right about them being repetitive; it is literally the same nightmare every night. I would do anything to be rid of them. And given those rather sweet dreams I had about us the other night, I believe that perhaps if we were to become mates, maybe I could finally let go of the past and move on."

Rexy smiled. "In that case, you may be right. If we were to become mates, maybe that could help you move on."

Kratos agreed. "Yes, perhaps it could. Shall we get a refreshment first before patrolling and maybe, sparring sometime later?"

Rexy nodded. "Yes. Let's go."

The king and queen left the cave, releasing their tails and went to go for a drink as the morning sun rose.

They headed for a nearby lake in their enclosure and began to sap their tongues in the water.

Elsewhere on the island

Alan's eyes widened as he stared at Dr. Ian Malcom from under the brim of his hat.

He was acting more like a young child than Dante had ever displayed.

He was acting like the annoying, petulant, disruptive child that Alan detested, the kind that Dante had never been.

Dante who barely understood a word Ian said, was rolling his eyes in annoyance. 'Good grief. Does this guy ever shut up?' He thought to himself, as he plugged in his earphones and listened to music on his cellphone.

"Dr. Sattler, Dr. Grant, have you ever heard of chaos theory?" Ian asked, turning his attention to the paleontologists again.

"No." Ellie admitted while Alan remained silent.

"No? Nonlinear equations, strange attraction?" Again, Ellie shrugged, which prompted Ian to smile again. "Dr. Sattler, I refuse to believe that you aren't familiar with the concept of attraction." Ellie smiled down at her hands and then glanced over at Alan, who was rolling his eyes and shaking his head.

She subtly slipped her hand into his to give it a tight squeeze, something that Dante noticed and smiled about.

"I bring scientists, you bring a rock-star," Hammond said pointedly to Gennaro

Gennaro looked like he was about to protest, but Hammond, with a gleam in his eye, pointed out the window. "There it is!"

Everyone turned to look out the window on the right hand side of the helicopter, gazing at the island they approached.

Isla Nublar wasn't horribly large, but it wasn't exactly tiny either.

Waves broke against the shore and the rocks that lined it, and mist clung to the forests that seemed to cover the entire island.

The helicopter banked to the right and flew them towards a divide between two mountains, taking them closer to their destination.

Dante stared out the window in utter awe, an unreasonable grin stretched across his face.

Everything was lush, green, and dense. It made him wonder just what was running around beneath all of that foliage and just what sort of park it was that Hammond was planning to open. Alan watched him with a small smile on his face, glad to see him so excited and happy.

He slipped his sunglasses on and adjusted the bandana around his neck, already feeling the humidity.

They hovered in one spot for a moment, just above a gushing waterfall that splattered into a small pool at the bottom.

Next to said pool was a helicopter landing pad. Suddenly, the helicopter lurched downward slightly.

"Bad wind sheers!" Hammond announced. "We have to drop pretty fast. So hold on, this can be just a little thrilling."

As if on cue, the helicopter dropped suddenly, causing everyone to jump. Ellie squeaked a little and Alan grabbed onto her knee for balance.

Although he wasn't scared, Dante held onto the edge of his seat in a death grip while scrambling to put on the provided seat belt.

Gennaro skittishly followed his lead, looking as though he very well might throw up.

Everyone followed suit with varying degrees of calmness; Alan discovered that his seat belt was just two clipping mechanisms, and no locking one.

He sighed quietly as Hammond informed of where the proper one was, and that, as he struggled, they would have landed before he got it right.

So Alan settled with tying the two buckles in a knot around his waist, much to his nephew's amusement. He arched an eyebrow and playfully kicked his foot, which he returned with equally gentle force.

Once they landed, they all piled out, with Ellie donning her sunglasses, and Alan removing his hat so it wouldn't fly off. Dante slung his bag over his shoulder and turned around in a circle, staring at his surroundings as he donned his Aviator sunglasses.

He'd never been anywhere tropical before, and he felt as if he were in some kind of TV show.

The helicopter blades still spun around overhead, the breeze blowing through his hair.

The heat was stifling, nothing like Dante had ever experienced, even in the middle of summer.

Sweat was forming on his spine already, and gathering at the nape of his neck. The air smelled of foliage and dew, with a pinch of humidity and rain.

It smelled exactly what Dante would have thought a jungle would smell like.

After taking in his fill-- for the moment-- Dante followed his uncle, Ellie, and Ian to the open top jeeps that were provided for transport.

They were painted tan and red, and the doors embossed with the silhouette of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton and the words 'Jurassic Park.'

Before Dante could question what that meant, he was ushered into the jeep by a park attendant wearing a pink polo shirt. But even then, Dante grabbed the attendant's wrist and squeezed tight enough to cause the bone to make a cracking sound as he glared at the man who dared to touch him. "With all due respect, I suggest you let this serve as a lesson; Never lay your hands on me without consent."

After releasing his grip, Dante climbed into the back of the vehicle between Alan and Ian, which was a bit of a tight squeeze, but it worked.

Ellie sat in the front, unfolding a map as the jeeps roared to life and pushed them forward into the jungle ridden lands before them.

As soon as the chopper dropped off Alan, Malcom, Sattler, Gennaro, and Hammond, they went off to show their first dinosaur before heading to the Visitor's Center. It was a Brachiosaurus. Grant stared in awe and surprise.

For the first time in millions of years before man even existed, was a dinosaur.

'Did I just see a d-d, a dinosaur?' Grant thought to himself as he stared directly to the left of the jeep, speechless as a massive animal the size of a combination between an elephant and a giraffe approaching a nearby tree to graze on the leaves up ahead.

Dante got up and leaned his body to the right, and eventually, he saw the same thing that his uncle did.

His jaw dropped.

It was grey in color, standing on four thick legs, and its neck was long and curved. It was a Brachiosaurus, from the Jurassic Period. And it was bellowing out what appears to resemble whale calls.

"Alan, this species of vermiform has been extinct since the Cretaceous Period.

This thing--"

Grant, never tearing his eyes from the Brachiosaur, reaches over and grabs Ellie's head, turning it to face the animal. She sees it and drops the leaf. She also gasped and got up, seeing what Grant was also seeing.

"Oh--my--God."

Ellie said in a quiet, joyful tone.

Grant lets out a long, sharp gasp, along with a combination of a laugh and shout of joy.

He gets out of the jeep and Ellie follows.

His nephew does the same.

Grant points to the thing and manages to put his first words together since its appearance.

"It's, it's-- it's a dinosaur."

Dante smiled as he watched the giant herbivore chewing the branches with leaves.

"That's a Brachiosaurus. It looks to be about 82 feet long, and up to 52 feet high. And at that kind of size, I would say that it weighs over 30 tons."

"Very good Dante. I have never seen such enthusiasm from someone so young." Hammond replied, as he got out of the other jeep.

The Brachiosaurus crunched the branch in its mouth, which is some thirty-five feet up off the ground, at the end of its long, arching neck. Not been seen since the age of dinosaurs.

It stares down at the people in the car with a pleasant, yet stupid gaze.

Ellie looks up at the sauropod in wonder.

"They're pretty light on their feet - a far cry from the sluggish, lumbering brutes we would normally expect in previous interpretations."

The smile never left Dante's face. He couldn't believe that he was seeing a real live Brachiosaurus before his very eyes. Dante likes all dinosaurs, but there is one he likes above all of the rest, which he has yet to reveal.

"Such a beautiful animal. I never thought I was see a real live dinosaur. Let alone a Brachiosaurus."

Alan laid his hand on Dante's shoulder. "You're not the only one. Even I couldn't anticipate something as amazing as this. Yet you still won't tell me what your favorite dinosaur is."

Dante chuckled. "Patience uncle. I will tell you in time."

Letting go of his nephew's shoulder, Alan moved forward till he stood at a distance that could be classified as too close.

He shielded his eyes from the now present sun and tilted his head back to stare at its impossibly long neck.

Hammond was on his way back to join them.

He looked like a proud parent showing off the kid, chuckling.

Ian Malcom looks at Hammond, amazed, and with an expression that is a mixture of admiration and rapprochement.

"You did it. You crazy son of a bitch, you did it." Malcom murmured.

Grant and Ellie continue walking, following the dinosaur.

"Ellie, we can tear up the rule book on cold-bloodedness. It doesn't apply, they're totally wrong. This is a warm-blooded creature. They were totally wrong"

Grant commented.

"This thing doesn't live in a swamp to support its own body weight for God's sake!"

Ellie replies in excitement.

Several other branches are suddenly RIPPED away.

Another sauropod, reaching for a branch high above their heads, stands effortlessly on its hind legs.

The paleontologists turned to Hammond, asking "That thing's got a what, twenty-five, twenty-seven foot long neck?"

Hammond answered proudly. "The Brachiosaurus? Thirty."

Grant and Ellie continued to walk.

Grant added in again. "-- and you're going to sit there and try to tell me that it can push blood up a thirty-foot neck without a four-chambered heart and get around like that!? Like that!? This is like a knockout punch for warm-bloodedness."

Alan laughed in happy disbelief, threading his fingers through the front of his hair to brush it off of his forehead.

They all watched as the Brachiosaurus rose up on its hind legs and rose up a couple more feet, biting down on the top most branches of the skinny-trunked tree.

Dante placed both hands over his mouth to hide what he was sure to be a goofy looking grin. It was so agile.

So sure of its movements.

Dante laughed when the impact of its feet meeting the ground again made them all stumble.

He recovered quite well from the stumble and smiled as he continued watching the sauropods grazing.

Hammond approaches them as Grant asked another question.

"How fast are they?"

"Well, we clocked the T-rex at thirty-two miles an hour."

Sattler turns around, speechless, wondering what he had just said.

"T-rex?" Ellie asked, just shocked.

"You've said you got a T-rex!? He's got a T-rex!"

The CEO of Ingen nodded in acknowledgement.

Grant turns around, wanting confirmation of what he just heard as Dante walked up to them with a wide grin on his face.

"Say again?"

Hammond reveals the secret, chuckling in amusement and excitement.

"Yes, we have a T-rex."

Grant starts to lean down and almost faint, while Dante kept smiling. Alan notices the grin on his nephew's face. "What are you smiling about?"

Dante chuckled. "Not only did Hammond reveal his own secret to you, but he inadvertently told you what my favorite dinosaur is."

Alan sat on the ground. Ellie approaches Grant, who seemingly was close to fainting, after hearing what Hammond said while he stared at Dante in shock. "You mean to tell me, that all this time, your favorite dinosaur has always been T-rex?"

Dante laughed. "Yup. That's right. T-rex has always been my favorite dinosaur ever, always will be."

Ellie noticed that Grant was even closer to fainting now. "Honey, put your head between your knees, and breathe." She advised.

Hammond walks in front of them and looks out to the open plains.

"Dr. Grant, my dear Dr. Sattler. Welcome to Jurassic Park." Hammond added.

They later turn to look at the view again. Its beautiful environment was reminiscent of an African plain.

A whole heard of dinosaurs crosses the plain, maybe a hundred of them.

Grant murmured in excitement to Sattler, who was sitting down, kneeling next to him.

Dante remained standing and stared at the dinosaurs in the distance, still stunned at what he saw, with a look of awe in his facial expression.

"Ellie, they're absolutely-- they're moving in herds. They do move in herds!"

"We were right!" Ellie murmured in excitement as well. But Grant continued to stare at the heard of dinosaurs, speechless. He then asks Hammond a question out of curiosity.

"How did you do this!?" Grant asked, still speechless and in awe at what he just saw.

"I'll show you." Hammond answered.

Donald Gennaro, however, sort of faded into the background while the others reacted.

He's just staring, a look of absolute rapture on his face, imagining how much money the park will make.

He then speaks in a voice that is hushed and reverent.

"We're gonna make a fortune of this place."

Alan rose to his feet with Ellie's help and turn to face his nephew, who was trying desperately-- and failing miserably-- to wipe the excited grin off of his face.

"There are dinosaurs," he said, still sounding shocked. "Real living dinosaurs, uncle. This is... is my dream come true-- better yet, our dream come true!"

Alan grinned. he hadn't seen him so happy in a very long time, and to see him grinning made Alan grin as well.

Glancing Ellie's way, he saw that she was smiling sweetly, her hands placed on her hips.

Alan returned the smile as they made their way back towards the jeeps, sparing glances back at the Brachiosaurs behind them.

Dante stared at it from the back of the jeep, his eyes glittering with wonder.

There wasn't anything in the world that could have made him happier than to have been there with his uncle and Ellie.

Everything was simply...amazing. It was a dream come true, as he had just said.

His heart was thrumming with excitement, his mind was working in the most pleasant form of overdrive, and as they made for the road again, Dante could not think of a single thing that could ruin his day.
