Chapter 49
Chapter 49
Omkara could see the look of shock in Tej's eyes seeing Gauri being escorted by him but there was something about the way he was leering at her that didn't sit well with him. The look he had was not of shock but rather of scheming. Gesturing Gauri to sit down below to the right while the General and Tej remain in the center standing Omkara went and sat on his throne.
"I hear you two have asked for an audience with me early this morning?"
Rudra cupped his hands together and bowed his head at Omkara.
"My King. I would like to return to the Northern Border today."
"Oh? Why not stay till your wounds are healed General?"
"My wounds are healing fast."
"Hmm....and why do you ask to see Lady Gauri....General...."
When Rudra lifted his head he could see Omkara's eyes glare at him for a bit and quickly he knew that anything pertaining to Lady Gauri would prompt a reaction from his King.
"I would like to ask her if I can bring her maid along. Although my wounds are healing but it's still in need of looking after."
At first Rudra was just going to let Omkara know he was leaving without worrying about having to ask permission to take the little maid along but seeing how Lady Gauri was being treated Rudra knew it was best to ask instead.
Omkara on the other hand was a bit surprise at the sudden request because he knew his friend hated having women near the barracks. Bhavya who was standing all the way in the back corner was just staring at her Princess who was now looking back at her with worry.
"I see. Why don't you ask Lady Gauri then."
Turning her gaze away from Bhavya, Gauri looks up at Omkara who seem please with himself that he was giving her this power to either deny or accept the General's request. Clearly he was doing to send a message to Lord Tej and anyone present in the room. This action in itself showed his favor for her and that was not a small matter.
When she saw the big General walk her way Gauri graciously stood up from her chair because as of now her status was not as high as his.
As she curtsied Gauri lifted up her head "Greetings General."
Rudra was taken aback at such a greeting but the image of this woman that day flash before his eyes. Blood smeared on her face with eyes cold and sharp as his blade. Even though she had lost her title her aura of royalty could not be taken away.
"Greetings Lady Gauri."
"I hear you want to take my personal maid to the border where only soldiers are?"
Though the woman had on a gentle smile but her voice was able to send chills down his back.
"Rest assured I will not let any harm come to her."
Gauri stood there staring at the man who wielded a sword against Sahil that day.
"Bhavya come." said Gauri.
From the dark corner Bhavya quickly ran over towards her Princess.
"Princess...."
When she saw Gauri's eyes glance sideways towards the King's direction Bhavya quickly kneeled down.
"Greetings your Majesty."
"Hmm..Rise."
Tej who was still standing at the center of the hall was clenching his fists at the turn of events.
"Damnit! How am I to ask for the maid if she is to leave already! What am I even doing here!" Tej thought to himself.
Even thinking about ambushing them on their way to the Northern Border was not an easy thing to do so Tej began to turn his sights on Gauri.
With Bhavya now standing in front of her Gauri looks at Rudra up and down causing Omkara to flinch.
"How are his wounds?" asked Gauri.
Twirling her dress around her fingers Bhavya glanced over at Rudra who seem to stood still and unwavering like a mountain. Even Gauri could see her hesitate somehow.
"Tell me the truth Bhavya."
Bhavya was very torn at this point. If she told the truth surely she would have to leave her Princess and embark to the Northern Border but if she lied she knew she would get caught.
Heaving out a sigh Bhavya looks sadly down towards the floor as she spoke.
"It is still very serious. The chances of infections are very high if not treated properly. Especially if traveling to the border."
"How long do you think it would take for his wounds to heal completely?"
"With proper care...3 weeks my Princess."
"Bhavya....I am no longer a Princess. Do address me as Lady Gauri."
"But....Yes...My Lady..."
"3 weeks. That is perfect timing then. When you are done... comeback here and we will return to Ashen together."
The room suddenly turned cold when they heard a crackling sound and all their eyes turned forward towards the man sitting on the throne.
Gauri could see his angered eyes but then when she saw his sly grin her heart fluttered erratically.
"It is only right to return to get one's belonging."
Her jaw almost dropped at his words. He was shameless enough to imply that by that time she would have become his Queen and would only return to Ashen to collect her things.
The room stayed silent as everyone looked at the man who suddenly rose up from his throne. His strides were slow yet intimidating as he approached the woman who seem angered by his words.
"Since you have agreed for the General to take your maid let's not talk about personal matters. We should only do that in our private chambers."
When he saw her eyes widen even more Omkara couldn't help but chuckle but then he looked towards Tej who seem to still be staring at his woman.
"So Lord Tej. What is it that you need to say to me this early morning?"
Once Omkara had declared that Gauri had agree Rudra took Bhavya to the side to let Tej have his turn.
Not even returning back to his throne Omkara remained by Gauri's side and when she wanted to sit back down to force him to return his hand found it's way to her waist.
Her eyes glared at him angrily but his hand did not budge and when she wanted to say something he just grinned at her while he whispered.
"Punishment for saying such nonsense earlier."
Gauri's ears started to turn red from anger but that did nothing to deter him so she just had to stand there graciously as he focused back towards Tej.
Tej who felt that he was not being given any respect could only grit his teeth.
"Your Majesty. I come early this morning to ask for the maid's services. My son's poison is yet to be cured but I see that she is leaving so I would like to ask for Lady Gauri to help."
Omkara's entire body exuded a cold and chilly aura as he imagined how Gauri cured him. To have her submerge herself in a basin of water with any other man was something he couldn't ever allow. Especially towards a man who played a part in poisoning him in the first place.
Gauri: "No."
Her sudden answer surprised everyone even Omkara. He was prepared to decline on her behalf but to have her say it made him even happier. As for Tej he was testing the waters. He didn't know how much this Lady Gauri knew about Omkara and was hoping that maybe he could paint the King of Mordis in a bad light by having him reject his request in front of everyone. Tej thought that Gauri being a physician would not refuse to treat is son so coldly.
"Why not? Did you not cure the King of the same poison as my son? If you ask for payment I can also give it." Declared Tej.
Gauri did not want to deal with whatever was going on between Omkara and this man since he had told her not to worry about it earlier. So instead she turned her body towards the King of Mordis and tilted her head in a lazy manner.
"Do I need to give a reason?"
Hooking up his lips and brushing her cheeks with his warm thumb Omkara smiled lovingly at his woman.
"Do not."
This was like a slap in the face for Tej who stood there dumbfounded. He already knew it was unlikely for Omkara to grant his request but to have it rejected like this was humiliating. It was as if the two didn't put him in their eyes and since Omkara had already spoken Tej couldn't say anything further.
"Then I shall take my leave." Tej said bitterly.
"Is that all you came for Lord Tej?"
Omkara knew Tej very well and to ask such an absurd request wasn't going to fool him. It was clear the man came to see if he was really rid of his poison and to see if he was injured during the battle with Ashen. He knew this old scoundrel had many tricks up his sleeve and now that he had seen Gauri here in Mordis Omkara knew he had to be more cautious.
"If Lady Gauri refuses to help Daksh there is nothing more for me to do here." replied Tej.
Gauri felt his hand leave her waist as he walked towards Tej who was clearly fuming.
With his hands clutch together behind his back Omkara leaned in close for only Tej to hear.
"The poison I bestowed upon your son....do you think I would allow it to be cured?...his suffering has just begun...Lord Tej...."
Tej's head jerked up to glare ferociously at Omkara who was smiling mockingly at him as he turned away to return back to Gauri.
"You may leave Lord Tej."
Once everyone saw Tej stomp out of the palace Omkara escorted Gauri towards Rudra and Bhavya.
"Why don't we leave the women to say their goodbyes General."
Rudra nodded his head as he followed Omkara to a near by garden leaving Gauri and Bhavya alone.
"Princess...I mean My Lady...are you really going to stay here in Mordis?" asked Bhavya.
Her eyes followed him towards the garden and she felt her heart tighten.
"Eventually I will have to leave."
Out in the garden Rudra made sure that no one was around because he knew his King very well.
"Your Majesty has something to say?"
"How are things at the Northern Border. Have you taken hold of the command?"
"Almost your Majesty."
"Are you hesitating because he is your uncle?"
"No. He still has many loyal soldiers by his side. To take over I would have to ensure that I could win but with my current state now it will take longer."
Omkara trusted his most loyal General and he knew that Rudra had been waiting for a long time to overthrow his uncle that was bought by Tej long ago. Remember his friend's own tragic story Omkara patted his friend on the shoulder.
"Just be careful. Even though you are his nephew he would not hesitate to strike you."
"I know. I have learned from my father's demise."
Omkara felt Rudra's entire body stiffen and with his hands clenched so tight that his knuckles were white he knew that his friend was fighting the urge to avenge his father.
"Do stay alert on your journey back. I am sure it would not be smooth sailing for you." Omkara warned.
"Duly noted your Majesty."
"With you being injured they will not pass up on this opportunity."
"Let them try."
As the two men talked further about the situation at the Northern Border their concerns were not for naught because once Tej left the palace he didn't waste anytime turning towards his shadow guards.
"Do not let him make it to the border and bring that maid to me!"
"Yes My Lord!"
When he saw his guards disappear Tej summoned another shadow guard that he used to send messages to Svetlana.
"Send word that Lady Gauri is in Mordis. Tell her I will take care of it."
"Yes My Lord."
" I have plans for Lady Gauri. It is clear that to get to him I just need to get to her."
The wheels in Tej's mind was already turning and a sinister smile could be seen on his face as he looks towards the palace.
"You think you have won Omkara...just wait and see how I will break you from within."
