*Tries to be polite but fears accidentally offending someone*
Alright, I've been thinking about this for a while, but it's just really bothering me now.
Does anyone know of a polite gender-neutral term I can use for others?
'Cause I have this thing where I compliment strangers when I'm out, and sometimes, there's this random person who has like, a really cool shirt or something and I... I just can't figure out how to adress them, and I'm afraid if I use "sir" or "ma'am" I'll accidentally offend them. And, I know not all people will be offended by something like that, but some people might and I'm just a ball of constant nerves so it terrifies me to no end.
And, I've heard people say that some people will correct you, and yeah, I get that- but the chance of me meeting these complete strangers I complimented again are like... Maybe 5%? At most? And there's another thing, I'm just a complete stranger who thought they have a cool shirt- so it's not like I personally know them and ajfgkjgff----
*Slapped*
Okay, but seriously, it's bothering me so much and androgonys people just always look so cool and I just don't know how to politely refer to them when I compliment them. ;-;
