Chapter 4

The New Supreme Lord of the Bathroom

So... how would you react if you realized that your teacher is secretly a Centaur, a man with the body of a horse? Shocked? Excited? Scared? Well... I was traumatized... I'm sort of a cowboy and me? I love to ride horses and sometimes even practice, I sort of wanted to become a jockey, but also a singer... now I'm here seeing my old teacher with horse legs, my mom dead... god what will I tell dad? How can I tell him that mom died? I'll deal with that later... I'm gonna deal with what's happening now.

We passed the volleyball pit. Several of the campers nudged each other. One pointed to the Minotaur horns Percy and I were carrying. Another said, 'That's him.'

Most of the campers were older than us. Their satyr friends were bigger than both Grover and Thomas, all of them trotting around in orange CAMP HALF-BLOOD T-shirts, with nothing else to cover their bare shaggy hindquarters. I'm not shy about meeting new people but meeting girls, weird things and weird people did left me a bit shy, they looked at us expecting to do something impressive like a cartwheel or lift a tree.

I looked back at the farmhouse. It was a lot bigger than I'd realized – four stories tall, sky blue with white trim, like an upmarket seaside resort. I was checking out the brass eagle weather vane on top when something caught my eye, a shadow which I saw in a window to the attic, Percy definitely noticed it too. The curtain move and I quickly thought I or well... Percy and I were being watched.

"What's up there?" Percy asked to Chiron.

He looked to where Percy pointed and his smile faded. "Just the attic."

"Somebody lives there?" I asked.

"No." he said a bit serious. "Not a single living thing."

His tone was a bit serious, like he was hiding something, Chiron was always honest but... noticing he lied to me for so long... I'm not sure if I can trust him.

"Come along, both of you." Chiron said with a forced but lighthearted tone. "Lots to see."

We walked through the strawberry fields, where campers were picking bushels of berries while a satyr played a tune on a reed pipe.

Chiron told us the camp grew a nice crop for export to New York restaurants and Mount Olympus. "It pays our expenses." he explained. "And the strawberries take almost no effort."

He said Mr D had this effect on fruit-bearing plants: they just went crazy when he was around. It worked best with wine grapes, but Mr D was restricted from growing those, so they grew strawberries instead. We watched the satyr playing his pipe. His music was causing lines of bugs to leave the strawberry patch in every direction, like refugees fleeing a fire. I wondered if Grover and Thomas could work that kind of magic with music. I wondered if they were still inside the farmhouse, being lectured by Mr D.

"Tommy won't get in trouble, right?" I asked Chiron. "He's a good person, a-and a good protector."

"Yeah, same as Grover." Percy stated.

Chiron sighed. He shed his tweed jacket and draped it over his horse's back like a saddle. "The two of them have dreams, bigger than are reasonable. Though Thomas is more experienced and older than Grover but still a bit new to the job. To reach their goal, they must first demonstrate great courage by succeeding as a keeper, finding a new camper and bringing him safely to Half-Blood Hill."

"But he did that!"

"I might agree with you,"Chiron said. 'But it is not my place to judge. Dionysus and the Council of Cloven Elders must decide. I'm afraid they might not see this assignment as a success. After all, Grover lost you in New York. Then there's the unfortunate... ah... fate of your mother. And the fact that Grover was unconscious when you dragged him over the property line. The council might question whether this shows any courage on Grover's part."

He later turns to me. "Thomas in the other hand will maybe not suffer as much as Grover, though the death of your mother might change something, but he did managed to take you to the camp himself and you were unharmed... but your mother's death will gravely affect him."

I looked down slightly, again the fact Thomas is probably blaming himself for mom's death... he has to stop blaming himself for that.

"He'll get a second chance, won't he?" Percy asked Chiron about Grover.

Chiron winced. "I'm afraid that was Grover's second chance, Percy. The council was not anxious to give him another, either, after what happened the first time, five years ago. Olympus knows, I advised him to wait longer before trying again. He's still so small for his age..."

"How old is he?"

"Oh, twenty-eight." that answered shocked me, if Grover is twenty-eight... how old is Thomas?

"What! And he's in sixth grade?" Percy said in utter shock.

"Satyrs mature half as fast as humans, Percy. Grover has been the equivalent of a middle school student for the past six years."

"Wait... if Grover is twenty-eight, how old is Thomas?" I asked him.

"He's forty-two." Chiron said... okay... I'm officially dead inside out... my best friend is thirty years older than me?!

"God..." that's all I could say.

Chiron says to Percy. "At any rate, Grover is a late bloomer, even by satyr standards, and not yet very accomplished at woodland magic. Alas, he was anxious to pursue his dream. Perhaps now he will find some other career..."

"That's not fair." Percy said. "What happened the first time? Was it really so bad?

Chiron looks away quickly. "Let's move along, shall we?"

But Percy wasn't quite ready to let the subject drop. Me in the other hand... Chiron didn't seem to like to say the word death... like if he avoids it. If that's the case... and if I learnt something about Greek Mythology... is that probably Hades... King of the Underworld and God of the Dead also exists.

"So... quick question." I told Chiron. "If the Greek gods are real... does that mean The Unseen also exists?"

While Percy stayed thoughtful about what I meant... Chiron did know what I mean, and his expression darkened.

"Yes, child." he paused trying to maybe choose his next words carefully. "He is real as well as his own realm."

"Um, who is The Unseen?" Percy asked.

"Okay... so you know there's the King of the Gods and God of the Sea?" Percy nods. "I'm talking about their other brother, the one from... there."

I pointed to the ground as Percy made an "oh" expression.

"Come, you two. Let's see the woods." Chiron said.

When we reached the woods, I realized how vastly big it was. It looked to take like a quarter of the valley, with tree so tall and thick, you could imagine nobody had been there since the Native Americans.

Chiron said. "The woods are stocked, if either of you care to try your luck, but go armed."

"Stocked with what?"
"Armed with what?"

Percy and I (in that order) asked Chiron literally at the same time what did he mean with that.

"You'll see. Capture the flag is Friday night. Do either of you have your own sword and shield?"

"Um... I have a guitar?" I said shyly smiling as Chiron chuckled a little.

"Then I suppose neither of you don't. I think a size five will do for both. I'll visit the armoury later."

"Armory?" Percy asked confused.

I was as confused about the fact there's an armory in the summer camp, but there was still so much to think about so the tour continued. We saw the archery range, the canoeing lake, the stables (which Chiron didn't seem to like very much), the javelin range, the sing-along amphitheatre, and the arena where Chiron said they held sword and spear fights.

"Sword and spear fights?" I asked him.

"Cabin challenges and all that,' he explained. 'Not lethal. Usually. Oh, yes, and there's the mess hall."

Chiron pointed to an outdoor pavilion framed in white Grecian columns on a hill overlooking the sea. There were a dozen stone picnic tables. No roof. No walls.

"Um... there's no roof." I stated to him.

"What do you do when it rains?"Percy asked confused.

Chiron looked at us as if we'd gone a little weird.

"We still have to eat, don't we?" that answer didn't convince me and I sigh... might as well drop the subject.

Finally, he showed us the cabins. I did see them from afar but now seeing them more clearly, I could see the details better. They were arranged in an U, with two in the front and five in left and five in the right side, and I could clearly see how each of them represented the mentioned gods Thomas told me.

Number Nine which was Hephaestus had smokestacks like a tiny factory. Number Four which was Demeter had tomato vines on the walls and the roof was made of grass. Number Seven was definitely Apollo with how much the cabin was glowing with all the gold... definitely the brightest cabin. Number Eight looks to be covered in silver, but doesn't glow at all like Apollo's... this definitely is Artemis', she is the Goddess of the Moon... I think. Number Six is a gray building with red curtains and a owl carved on the doorway, Athena's.

Number Eleven was obviously Hermes with that winged staff almost by the roof, but it looks so worn out, very old. Number Five was Ares' cabin, looks so aggressive, a very angry red color across a few parts of the cabin, with barbed wire in the roof and a boar head on the door way. Number One was white completely, white columns, white walls, it was biggest and bulkiest of all the cabins, though the door had lightning symbols and a lightning being hold from the roof, meaning this was Zeus. Number Two was more graceful than the one from Zeus, slimmer columns, garlanded with pomegranates and flowers, this was Hera's. Number Twelve was Mr D or Dionysus, same person, it had many plants covered across the cabin with grapes as well, sort of like Demeter's. Lastly the last one was Number Ten, Aphrodite, it was... pretty normal outside... if that's the case... how does it look inside?!

"Zeus and Hera?" Percy signaled to Number One and Two.

"Correct." Chiron said.

"They look empty." I said bit confused, not from Hera but from Zeus.

"Several of the cabins are. That's true. No one ever stays in one or two." Chiron's statement was really weird because again... is Zeus. I saw some people walking walking to Aphrodite's Cabin... most were girls, maybe a year older than me or two... and they waved at me... including the boys. I completely felt my cheeks heat up and waved shyly though quickly covering my sight with my hat, lowering it to eye level... people considering me attractive isn't one of them... I mean... maybe has to do that I rarely show my hair and I'm pretty introverted.

"Oh, I wouldn't do that!" I heard Chiron say as I look back seeing Percy almost entering Number Three... which was long, low and solid, with every window facing the sea, plus outside there was many seashells and corals representing the God of the Sea, Poseidon.

"Come along, Percy." Chiron said as we checked now the rest of the cabins, they were all definitely different and represent each Olympian. But seeing to Ares' cabin, there's a lot mean faces there, they looked all like Josh... bullies. There was rock music in that cabin, strong rock music and it screamed anger, violence and danger.

"We haven't see any other Centaurs." Percy said.

"No." Chiron said with a bit of sadness. "My kinsmen are a wild and barbaric folk, I'm afraid. You might encounter them in the wilderness, or at major sporting events. But you won't see any here."

"So your name Chiron... like the Centaur that trained Heracles, you based it in him?" I asked.

Chiron smiles at me. "Child... I trained Heracles and many others."

Okay, not only my old teacher is a Centaur... he is a damn legend, now this is beyond I can process.

"But, you shouldn't be dead?" Percy asked.

Chiron paused, as if the question intrigued him. "I honestly don't know about should be. The truth is, I can't be dead. You see, eons ago the gods granted my wish. I could continue the work I loved. I could be a teacher of heroes as long as humanity needed me. I gained much from that wish... and I gave up much. But I'm still here, so I can only assume I'm still needed."

So he has been a teacher for so many years, thousands and thousands of years, that wasn't living... it was torture.

"Doesn't it ever get boring?" Percy asked with a bit of worry.

"No, no." he said. "Horribly depressing, at times, but never boring."

"Why depressing?"

Chiron completely looked away dodging the question.

"Oh look." he said. "Annabeth is waiting for us."

* * *

Annabeth was seated in Hermes' Cabin, reading a book. When we reached, she looked at us critically... I'm gonna admit from right now... she's getting on my nerves. She was reading a book, but it was hard to even understand it, not because I couldn't see it straight... because the letters were Greek, literally they were Greek.

"Annabeth," Chiron said. "I have masters archery class at noon. Would you take Percy and Y/N from here?"

"Yes, sir." she confirmed... sh*t.

"Cabin Eleven." Chiron told us, gesturing the hallway. "Make yourselves at home."

I really want to go home... my real home. Annabeth opened the door and Percy and I saw many people... a lot but inside, it looked horrible. There were bunk beds, but the place looked so old and... I wasn't liking this at all. When they saw Chiron, they respectfully bowed to him.

"Well, then." Chiron said. "Good luck, both of you. I'll see you at dinner."

He galloped away... yeah galloped, half horse, remember? Percy and I stood in the doorway, looking at the kids... I was never that good at new schools, only thing I knew is that there were bullies and I? Well... I broke them... that's all.

"Well?" Annabeth prompted. "Go on."

"Shut... up..." I whispered angrily, yeah... I was on my nerves, until I hear someone trip and I see Percy in the ground, as I quickly help him up. Some of the campers snickered but I still help Percy.

"Percy Jackson, Y/N Galanis, meet Cabin Eleven."

"Regulars or undetermined?" I heard someone ask.

We didn't know what to say, until Annabeth says. "Undetermined, both."

Everybody groaned.

Until I saw someone a little older than all of us walk forward. "Now, now, campers. That's what we're here for. Welcome, Percy, Y/N. You both can have that spot on the floor, right over there."

The guy had sandy short cropped hair, looked about nineteen, he was muscular, tall, wearing an orange tank top, cutoffs, sandals and a leather necklace with five different-colored clay breads. The only thing unsettling about his appearance was a thick white scar that ran from just beneath his right eye to his jaw, like an old knife slash.

"This is Luke." Annabeth said with a... different tone...the girlish one, great... I got to handle her boyfriend now... gimme a break. "He's your counsellor for now."

"For now?" I asked.

"You're undetermined." Luke explained patiently. "They don't know what cabin to put you in, so you're here. Cabin eleven takes all newcomers, all visitors. Naturally, we would. Hermes, our patron, is the god of travellers."

"And the god of thief." I confirmed definitely not letting go of my guitar or my hat... at all, the fact some were kids of Hermes completely gave me... no... will give me a hard time trusting either of them, might as well sleep in a campfire, is so much better than sleeping with them. I only had the Minotaur horn in my hand as well as Percy, no luggage or extra clothes.

"How long will we be here?" Percy asked also for me.

"Good question." Luke said. "Until you're determined."

"And that is... how long?" I asked.

The campers laughed at that, I'm so close to breaking bones... last few times, they were accidents... these ones... they will not.

"Come on." Annabeth told us. "I'll show you the volleyball court."

"We saw it." I said.

She still grabbed our wrist, but I quickly broke the grip the second just one of her fingers touched my wrist... forget the beauty, forget the beautiful grey eyes or blond hair or her boyfriend... this place is stressing me out.

She glared at me both annoyed and confused and just decided to pull Percy, I just followed her tightening my guitar bag, until we stop meters away.

"Jackson, you have to do better than that."

"What?" Percy asked confused.

She rolls her and mumbled under her breath. "I can't believe either of you were the one."

"What's your problem?" Percy was getting angry now. "All I know is, Y/N and I kill some bull guy-"

"Don't talk like that!" Annabeth told him. "You know how many kids at this camp wish they'd had your chance?"

"To what? Die?" I asked angrily.

"To fight the Minotaur! What do you think we train for?"

I try to say something... but that would escalate in a fight which he wants to dodge.

"Look, if the thing we fought really was the Minotaur, the same one in the stories..." Percy said.

"Yes."

"Then there's only one."

"Yes."

"And he died, like, a gajillion years ago, right? Theseus killed him in the labyrinth. So..."

"Monsters don't die, Percy. They can be killed. But they don't die."

"Then that explains why Percy and I fought both a Minotaur, it was the same monster who... killed them."

"They don't have souls, like the three of us. You can dispel them for a while, maybe even for a whole lifetime if you're lucky. But they are primal forces. Chiron calls them archetypes. Eventually, they re-form."

"So in another word... they're immortal, amazing." I angrily waved my hand... if that thing is immortal, then mom's murdered is technically still out there, and impossible to murder forever. "Dammit!"

I cursed myself angrily looking down slightly.

Percy looks back at Annabeth. "Still, why do we have to stay in cabin eleven, anyway? Why is everybody so crowded together? There are plenty of empty bunks right over there."

He pointed at the first few cabins and Annabeth turned pale. "You don't just choose a cabin, Percy. It depends on who your parents are. Or... your parent."

"My mom is Sally Jackson." Percy said. "She works at the candy store in Grand Central Station. At least, she used to."

I slowly looked down with my hat covering my eyes, but I could tell Annabeth was looking at me.

"Mine was Andrea Galanis, she worked as an accountant, until the Minotaur killed her."

"I'm sorry about both your mothers. But that's not what I mean. I'm talking about your other parent. Your dad."

"Mine is an asshat, mom said he left before I was even born, scary bastard." I crossed my arms bit angrily.

"Mine's dead. I never knew him." Percy stated.

Annabeth sighed. Clearly, she'd had this conversation before with other kids.

"Your father's not dead, Percy."

"How can you say that? You know him?"

"No, of course not."

"Then how can you say-"

"Because I know you... both of you. You wouldn't be here if you weren't one of us." I raised my hand which she looked with me a bit angry.

"You do not know anything about him, or me... so don't speak like you know what we're going through, Chase." I said.

The fact I called her by her last name really didn't please her, but me? I don't care, all she's done is mock, talk like if she knew us, knew what we have gone through, I liked her more when I didn't know her.

"No?" She raised an eyebrow. "I bet you both moved around school to school. I bet you were kicked out of a lot of them."

"How-" I couldn't finish as she returned to talk.

"Diagnosed with dyslexia. Probably ADHD, too."

I wasn't getting embarrassed like Percy, more like angry... it can't be a coincidence that also she and everyone here has those same symptoms.

I said angrily. "What the hell does those two things have to do? Is mind reading part of Athena's arsenal?"

"No. Taken together, it's almost a sure sign. The letters float off the page when you both read, right? That's because your minds is hardwired for ancient Greek. And the ADHD – both of you impulsive, can't sit still in the classroom. That's your battlefield reflexes. In a real fight, they'd keep you alive. As for the attention problems, that's because you see too much, not too little. Your senses are better than a regular mortal's. Of course the teachers want you medicated. Most of them are monsters. They don't want you seeing them for what they are."

"That doesn't explain other things like the enhanced physicality. How in hell I managed to get on top of a Minotaur, completely stagger it, and no matter how many lessons I try to control my strength, I always seem to end up breaking bones and injuring people!"

"We half-bloods have enhanced physicality because of our god parent, it also depends on who is. You can be stronger than the normal one, or faster, or wiser, it all depends on who is your god parent, and if what you say is true, no doubt your god parent is someone like 'Ares.'" Annabeth said though I frowned... Ares? Telling mom to find a better person than himself, doesn't sound like him.

"Ares is a barbaric brute, mom said my father left so she can find someone better... it's not him."

"Half-Blood?" I heard Percy ask with Annabeth facing him.

"It's what we are. If you weren't like us, you couldn't have survived the Minotaur, much less the ambrosia and nectar."

"The hell is that?" I asked.

"The food and drink we were giving you to make you better. That stuff would've killed a normal kid. It would've turned your blood to fire and your bones to sand and you'd be dead. Face it you too. You're a half-bloods... Galanis."

I frowned at the moment she said my last name... god she was so insufferable... I just can't stand Annabeth, at all."

Then a husky voice yelled. "Well. New newbies!"

I looked and saw the same girl from Ares' Cabin, which was Number Five, I also saw three more behind her, as ugly as annoying as the one in front, all wearing camo jackets.

"Clarisse." Annabeth sighed. "Why don't you go polish your spear or something?"

"Sure, Miss Princess." the big girl said. 'So I can run you through with it Friday night."

"Errete es korakas." Annabeth said, I understood what she said, even when it was Greek. She kept the glare at her. "You don't stand a chance."

"We'll pulverize you." Clarisse said, but her eye was twitching. She later looks at both of us with her normal mean face. "Who're these little runts?"

"Percy Jackson, Y/N Galanis," Annabeth said. "meet Clarisse, daughter of Ares."

"Like... the war god?" Percy asked.

Clarisse sneered. "You got a problem with that?"

"No." Percy said, recovering his wits. "It explains the bad smell."

Clarisse growled. "We got an initiation ceremony for newbies, Prissy."

"Percy."

"Whatever. Come on, I'll show you."

"Clarisse-" Annabeth said.

"Stay out of it, wise girl." she looks at me. "You're next, punk."

Annabeth looked pained, but stayed out of it. I saw her take Percy by the neck, but he managed to give me the Minotaur horn. The way she was acting... it only screamed that she's a bully. She took him to the girls bathroom and I could see Percy trying to fight back.

I look at her, angrily. "Aren't you gonna help?!"

Annabeth goes to say something, but she fails too... Daughter of Athena MY ASS! I groaned and give her both horns and also dropping the guitar and hat. I gave the horns to her with a slight push of anger and walked to where Percy was. Clarisse's friends were laughing as they see Clarisse completely humiliate Percy.

"Like he's "Big Three" material." I saw Clarisse push Percy to a toilet still laughing. "Yeah, right. Minotaur probably fell over laughing, he was so stupid-looking."

Her friends kept laughing and Annabeth stood in the corner, watching through her fingers.

I walked quickly as I push her friends quickly trying to at least stop Clarisse from just humiliating Percy more than he has done to himself. But she looks back and smirks.

"Might as well do it now." I heard her say, as I felt a tug behind, someone grabbing my dirty denim jacket, it was one of her friends. "Go have fun with him."

"What?" I asked as they took me away, I started to slowly struggle, I was getting annoyed... angry... "Let go!"

"Nah!" one of them said with the other two laughing as they were about to throw me to the other toilet... but they tried to push me, but even with that, I was pushing back the strength of three Daughters of Ares... I had enough.

"I SAID LET GO!!!" I completely head butted back one of her friends and completely punched the living hell out of her.., I swore I saw a teeth or two fly off and I send her back to the other two, stumbling back. I was slowly losing control... like with the Minotaur, I grabbed one of the daughters and started to smash her to the floor again, and again, and again, and again, and again, to the point I could feel my sight slowly darken... until I heard a toilet shoot out and Clarisse scream, I look back seeing more kept shooting, as I threw the one I had in my grip to the toilet, and was also shot out, forcing me to run away but I still got wet.

I ran out leaving the others behind, as I looked at Annabeth... who wasn't spared, until she looked to the ground... there were two teeth there, just to look at me... she knew I did this... and damn I don't care if I get kicked out... I really don't. There were other campers out too... who watched the scene. I looked and saw Percy standing in the only dry spot... and he wasn't even wet at all.

"Percy? How did you do that?" I asked in a bit of shock... did he... blew up the toilet and flooded the bathroom? I then heard a bit of whimper, as I saw the girl I knocked her teeth out just whimpering... even having a bruised cheek, and a bit of blood going down her lip. I angrily looked at her and then at Clarisse who went to them and looked at me and Percy.

"Both of you are dead. Dead!"

Percy then says. "You want to gargle with toilet water again, Clarisse? Close your mouth."

Clarisse was about to launch at Percy, but her two remaining friends pull her and the injured girl back to their cabin... I'm so getting kicked out... yet... I don't care.

Annabeth stared at us as I look back angry and walk to get my stuff back, completely taking the horn, and my hat.

"Thanks for nothing, wise girl."

"What? What do you mean-"

"What do I mean? Percy was getting bullied, and you? The coward you are did NOTHING as he was getting beaten by the daughter of Ares! You stayed here watching as things went south! Don't tell me the daughter of the Goddess of Wisdom and War is a coward!"

"I would watch your next words." said Annabeth angry but I was already angrier than her, and slowly she looked at me confused... then scared.

"Oh, says the wise girl, huh? Did the Wisdom of Athena told you to stay out of the fight? Or does her wisdom benefit for the good of herself, which explains so much of you. The only thing you have done ALL DAY is make my-our life miserable, you've always stayed in the sidelines, and sure as hell I bet that you healed us cause a damn prophecy and not because we were injured. Honestly I liked you more when I didn't even know you were a thing." I didn't even let her talk again and abruptly took the guitar bag from her hands and walked away angrily, but her feared eyes were still there when I left.

I heard Percy to tell me to wait... but I ignored it... I really need some time alone. Did I went overboard? Probably... but I just can't stand her and how she stayed looking at Percy get humiliated? The amount of people who die from humiliation and bully and she stays in the sidelines... I need some time... I... want everything to return back to normal.
