Chapter 2

***Link***

I walked into the studio later than usual. Stevie is already right next to me asking me why I was late. "Don't worry about it, Stevie. My alarm just didn't go off this morning." I lied hoping she wouldn't notice. She shrugged and walked away.

I entered Rhett's and my office where Rhett was already doing research for a topic for Good Mythical Morning. "What's it today, buddy?" I plopped down in my chair with a huff. "Can Link Fill the Blanks in His Muskets With Actual Bullets? Because It's Dual Time!!!" Rhett said a little too enthusiastically. The dual video. I nodded my head.

I got on my computer. I wonder what Jeremy is doing. I thought to myself. Was he eating breakfast at school? Maybe he was sitting in history class learning about Napoleon and the French revolution. Or maybe it was biology and learning about photosynthesis. I don't know. I hope he's alright.

***Jeremy***

My back hit the locker and my elbow smashed into my ribs. I spit the blood out of my mouth and looked at Alex. I grew furious. I swung a punch at his head and missed. He pinned me back up to the wall and wailed on my face. The bell rang and he dropped me. I fell to the floor and layed there for a second.

Talk about being saved by the bell. I got up and gathered my belongings shoving them back into my old backpack. I started running to algebra where we were learning something about exponents.

I plopped down in my seat. "Jeremy." My teacher greeted not so pleasantly. "Why are you late again?" She asked. "Sorry." I grumbled.

"I didn't ask for an apology, young man. Why are you late?" She said sternly.

"Well, I was just making out with my girlfriend." I said sarcastically and everyone giggled a bit under their breath.

"Hallway. Now." She said and I got up obeying her. "Think about the truth and I will be out in a minute to talk to you." She said.

I left the classroom and started strolling down the hallway. I don't know if she really thought I was going to stay there, but I certainly wasn't.

I walked out of the doors of the school and around the back. There was a concealed spot that I liked to sit in when I was feeling lonely or upset.

I adjusted my back against the tree and pulled out my book. I didn't own many but this one was by far my favorite. It was Stephen King. It is about a guy who has these pretty cool powers he get from doing an experiment with his wife and then he has a kid and she has powers too. She can set stuff on fire and they are running away from the bad guy who wants them. It's called Firestarter.

I finished six chapters before the bell rang and my best friend Zach sat down next to me. He was my only friend I suppose. Everyone else just put up with me. "Hey. I thought I'd find you out here after Mrs. Ash didn't bring you back in." He laughed.

I closed my book and put it in my lap. "So, what's up?" I said.

"The sky." He smiled at me. I gave a forceful smile. He started talking about his ride to school and his little sister talking about balloons. "I got a ride to school from my neighbor." I said blatantly. He stopped talking and looked at me surprised.

He didn't know much about my life except for I didn't accept help from strangers, or anyone really. "How did that go?" He asked.

"Well, we sat in awkward silence most of the time. He asked me my name and age. I told him. His name is Link. He is thirty-something. I don't remember. He makes YouTube videos for a living. That's all we talked about. Then silence."

He looked astonished. The bell rang again signaling those who were not in class were late. We both had Spanish this hour. "Should we go to class?" I asked and he nodded. We got up and left.
