Apology?

(Y/N) and Evan hadn't spoken a word to each other for a whole week. It was painful for the both of them to not have someone to confide to, to talk to, to hang out with.

But (Y/N) was too stubborn to apologize and Evan was too nervous. So, they didn't speak. Lunch times were awkward, Jared attempting to get them to talk to eachother with very little success - none, in fact.

Jared was just about fed up. He was tired of keeping the friend group together while Connor kept missing school doing god-knows-what.

So, Jared approached Evan. He was easy to find in the hallway, with his bright blue polo shirt. God, why did he always wear the same shirt? Did he have tons of the same one?

That was beyond the point. Jared went up to Evan, slightly startling him.

"H-hey Jared! D-do you need something?" Evan stammered, looking tense.

"Cut the bull crap, Evan. What happened between you and (Y/N)?" Jared asked, getting right to the point.

Evan's face went pale. His hands started violently fidgeting, and he bit his lip.

"N-nothing happened.." Evan finally sputtered out, looking on the verge of tears.

"You know, I could just go ask (Y/N) about it." Jared said, challenging Evan.

Evan sighed, clutching his hands together. He knew that if he asked (Y/N), everything would be worse for him. No, he had to tell Jared.

"..Fine.." Evan said, taking a breath. "But we have to talk in private.. can you come over after school?"

"Sure, Hansen. Just remember, if you bail, Ill ask (Y/N)!" Jared cheerfully yelled out as he left Evan standing there, alone and afraid.

___

(Y/N) sat on the bus, which was beyond crowded. Kids yelled, teenagers threw paper balls, and the three schools that had a joint bus system regretted having it so.

(Y/N) pulled their little brother closer to them. Noah was starting to doze off, which (Y/N) didn't mind. They had the last stop, making their bus ride long. Therefore, it was acceptable for Noah to sleep. He snuggled close to his sibling for warmth.

(Y/N) put a protective hand on his back, looking around the bus. Kids were seen everywhere, but one stood out.

Randy.

He must have caught them staring, because he returned with a cold glare and a few words.

"You're friends with that Murphy kid." He said, monotone. Before (Y/N) could reply, he stood up at his stop and said something that put (Y/N) off.

"He's got three days, tops. Tell him to enjoy it."

And so, Randy exited the bus.

(Y/N) shook it off. Randy certainly didn't mean what he said. Besides, what did he mean by 'three days'?

(Y/N) tried to avoid morbid thoughts, but their mind spiraled into them. What if Randy was why Connor hadn't been at school? What if he was cold, tied up in some cellar, only to be killed in three days.

Before (Y/N) knew it, they were at their stop. They snapped out of their thoughts, and gently shook Noah awake. The groggy seven year old stood up, (Y/N) behind him. They took his hand, and the two got off the bus.

Today had been hell, and (Y/N) was ready to relax.

Evan sat on his bed, hands in his lap. Jared sat on the floor, waiting for him to explain the situation.

"Spill, Evan. What happened between you and (Y/N)? Did y'all fuck or something?" Jared asked, his snarky voice echoing through the room.

Evan turned beet red.

"N-n-no! I- We-" Evan stammered. He took a breath, regaining himself. "Look, w-we both may h-have said.. and done t-things we wish we h-hadn't.."

"So.. you banged?" Jared asked, an eyebrow of his raising.

"N-no! J-just let me e-explain!"

With that, Evan told him everything. He poured out his heart and almost cried. He told him about the night at his house, how they almost kissed. He told them about their argument in the bathroom, his voice choking up with tears. He told him what they had both said, and broke down.

"Jeez, cut the waterworks. You're making me feel bad. Besides, if you're so upset about it, why don't you two just make up?

Evan halted. This idea had occurred to him, but he thought he was foolish for thinking it.

"Y-you think that would work?"

"Of course! Just say you're sorry, blah blah blah, go get some food, and bam! Everything is back to normal!" Jared exclaimed.

Evan hesitated once again. He wondered how to make up to them?

He mentally wrote a letter to himself.

Dear Evan Hansen,

You need to apologize to (Y/N) if you don't want them to hate you.

I know! Invite them to the orchard! You can talk with them about trees, then get some ice cream.

Everything will be okay.

Sincerely,

Your dearest and closest friend,

Me.
