Chapter Thirteen

                    Collins POV
For the last two weeks, Devan and the doctors had been working so that he could go home this afternoon, and he would be able to be at Leah's final performance tonight. She was one of the finalists, so if she did well enough tonight, she'd win. I got back to the hospital with something Devan had asked to pick up. As I got into his room, I handed the small box to him.

"Hey, this is, bro?" He opened the box, and grinned.
"Yeah. This is exactly what I was describing. When we get home, I'm gonna do it. Can you film it?" I grinned.
"Duh! Of course I can! Now......you ready? There's 20 minutes until it starts, so we gotta go. Ready?" He stood up slowly, and we got the papers done, and headed out. We got there, and Nick grinned at us.

"There he is! Dean's back!!" We both shushed him, and he nodded.
"Oh, right. Sorry. Collins, your stuff's set up in the back, right where ya asked, man." I nodded, smiling.
       "Thanks. You're the best."

            Devan's POV
I followed my brother into a back room, where there was an iPad set up with some kind of video. It was an AGT audition, and I looked at him, confused.

"What is this?" He smiled slightly, playing the video. It was Leah's audition. I sat there, stunned and trying not to cry as I watched her perform.

"She......She did this for me? She did this because I told her she could?" Collins nodded, and I felt a lump in my throat. It meant that much to her? We went through each of her performances, and when I watched the last one, with her doing Fight Song, by Rachel Platten, I almost started crying. Collins turned the last one off, smiling at me. He'd told me she had auditioned for AGT, and that the last performance was tonight, but that was it.

"She's one of the finalists. Tonight is her last performance. You ready for this?" I nodded, and we snuck out, doing everything we could to not be seen by Leah. She went up, and I slipped to where I could see and hear her, but she couldn't.

"Leah Jones. How are things with your boyfriend?" She smiled weakly.
"He's been going downhill. So....we'll see." Howie nodded, and then Heidi smiled kindly.
"I'm sorry. What song are you doing tonight?" She had her guitar, and she adjusted it.
"Amnesia, by 5 Seconds Of Summer." She nodded, and Leah started strumming. (A/N- Ik the video up top is Anthem Lights, but it's the same song, but their cover. Enjoy!)

I drove by all the places
We would spend the time we wasted
I thought about our last kiss
How it felt, the way you tasted
And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine
Are you somewhere feeling lonely
Even though he's right beside you
When he says those words that hurt you
Do you read the ones I wrote you
Sometimes I start to wonder was it just a lie
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?
Cause I'm not fine at all.

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the makeup running down your face
And the dreams you left behind, you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
Oh, I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape
Cause I'm not fine at all

The pictures that you send me
They're still living in my phone
I'll admit I like to see them, I'll admit I feel alone
And all my friends keep asking why I'm not around
It hurts to know you're happy
It hurts that you moved on
It's hard to hear your name
But I haven't seen you in so long
It's like we never happened, was it just a lie
If what we had was real, how could you be fine
Cause I'm not fine at all

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the makeup running down your face
And the dreams you left behind, you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
Oh, I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

If today I woke up with you right beside me
Like all of this was just some twisted dream
I'd hold you closer than I ever did before
And you'd never slip away
And you'd never hear me say

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the makeup running down your face
And the dreams you left behind, you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
Oh, I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape
Cause I'm not fine at all

No, I'm really not fine at all
Tell me this is just a dream
Cause I'm not fine at all.

I didn't even realize I was grinning ear to ear as every one applauded. Once again, I snuck away, and Collins came back for me right before the winner would be revealed.

"You ready for this, man? Oh, and Nick wants to know who you're voting for." I rolled my eyes, chuckling slightly. I quickly wrote it down on a piece of paper, and handed it to Nick.

"You ready to see if your girl wins this?" He asked, and I gave him a look.
"Collins, she's already won in my book. She doesn't need a celebrity to tell her she's won a tv show." Nick chuckled.
"Your brother's got the right idea here. I hope she wins this though, man. She definitely deserves it." We headed out, and I was just out of sight again. Nick went out, and stood between her, and the other finalist, Peyton Thomas, an illusionist.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we've had the closest competition ever this year. The winner was decided by exactly one vote." I gasped slightly, and Collins chuckled.
"Wow. I think you had the deciding vote." I chuckled slightly, and Nick continued.
"And winner of America's Got Talent is......." He paused, and I could see Leah getting paler. Peyton looked over, smiling at her, and Leah smiled back.

"Leah Jones!" Immediately, Leah dropped to her knees, a hand over her mouth. Peyton went over, helping her stand, and hugged her. Then, Nick winked at me as Collins headed out, also hugging her.

"So....Leah?" Nick started talking again, and the cheers died down.
"Do you want to know who had the deciding vote?" She nodded, wiping away some of the tears. He turned around, and beckoned to me. I grinned, coming out onstage. The cheers started up again, and Leah froze. Both hands went over her mouth, and she doubled over, now sobbing. The cheers were now deafening, and all the judges stood as I went over to her, helping her stand and wrapping my arms around her.

"I thought you were gone." She whispered, and I chuckled.
"You're not getting rid of me that easily." I whispered back. All four judges came up onstage, congratulating her for winning. Peyton was also grinning, hugging her.

"I knew you'd get it, Leah. You definitely deserve it. If I weren't on here, I'd vote for you." Despite not winning, she really was happy for Leah. When we got home, Leah and I sat on the glider outside, just staring up at the night sky and holding each other close.

"Hey. You're 19 now, right?" She smiled slightly, nodding.
"Yeah. And you'll be 20 soon. That's a little scary." I couldn't help but laugh.
"True. I've still gotta give you my birthday present, though." I took a deep breath, grabbing the little black box from beside me, and standing. She looked at me, confused, and then I knelt down.

"Leah, I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I love you so much, and nothing can ever change that. One of the things I love most about you is that you don't let anything or anyone get you down, no matter what happens. So...." I pulled the box out, opening it and revealing the ring inside.
"Leah Isabelle Jones......Will you marry me?" She froze for a minute, and then burst into tears.
"I'm sorry....no....I'm sorry..." She was sobbing, and I gently took her hands.
"Hey. Hey, what's wrong? Listen, your parents can't stop you, your sister can't stop you. No one can stop you." She shook her head, and then took a breath.
"Devan, when I left.....the guy who kidnapped me.....he raped me. I don't.....I don't want you to have to deal with that." I nearly felt my heart shatter. She thought I wouldn't love her because that guy had done that to her.
"Leah, look at me." She took a shaky breath, looking up at me, her tear stained eyes glistening in the moonlight.

"Leah, I don't care. I don't care about what he did to you. You are beautiful to me just the way you are. That doesn't matter. So now that I know, I will ask you again. Will you marry me?" She took a deep breath, smiling shakily.
"Yes. Yes, Devan, I will." I stood, sitting beside her and wrapping my arms around her waist. She wrapped her arms around my shoulders, burying her face in my neck.

"I love you, baby." I whispered, letting go and taking out the ring, slipping it onto her finger. She smiled at me, and then leaned up against me, and we just sat there, snuggled together under the moonlight. It seemed like time was frozen on this moment. I knew I'd be going back for PT, but I was alive, and engaged to the most wonderful young lady on the planet. Things couldn't be any better.
